While visiting Wilmington, N.C. for my sister's birthday, I was fortunate enough to eat breakfast at Amanecer. This is an adorable Mexican breakfast place, with an extensive menu covering savory and sweet. They also have great coffee drinks. Our server was Anderson and he was simply amazing. Super attentive, and remembered little details, e.g. My nephew had quickly finished a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice, and he asked for the next one to not come out until his breakfast came, and it came out seconds before food did. The portion sizes were amazing and this food was fresh and absolutely delicious. I had the chilaquiles tradicionales and cleaned my plate. My husband had huevos rancheros and my sister had the volcano breakfast served in a hot, volcanic rock bowl. Everyone in our party loved their meal and we had the most amazing and attentive service. At the end of the meal, they brought out a tres leches pancake, and all sang happy birthday to my sister. And even though we were so full from our meals, we could not resist eating that pancake! This is such a fun, happy and cozy place to eat. The staff were stellar. Those who live in this area, are very lucky to have a breakfast place like this. I look forward to coming back. read more

I really enjoyed brunch at Amanecer Cocina & Café - Gordon! The chilaquiles were really good, and I loved that they had different types of chilaquiles to choose from. The pancakes were also amazing, and their mimosa flight was one of my favorite parts of the experience. I also love that it's Latino-owned because I feel like Wilmington doesn't have a lot of brunch spots offering this type of vibe and menu. The whole atmosphere was really nice and felt like such a vibe inside. I did have to wait about 15-20 minutes, but it was a Sunday brunch rush so it definitely made sense. The staff was very attentive and friendly the whole time, and overall the service was great. Definitely a spot I'd recommend for brunch! read more

We have been here a couple of times and it never disappoints. The servers are always friendly, service is fast and the portions are big. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and sat right away. We ordered the carne asada, tripe soup and the torta planchada with carne asada. Of course everything was full of flavor and delicious. We had some leftovers to take home. The sign outside said "best breakfast in Wilmington" and they were not wrong! Inside has a fresh, cafe feel. Service from the hostess stand to the wait staff was terrific. They offer fresh squeezed OJ and the coffee is very good. We had the Sunrise burrito...stuffed full of carne, chorizo, beans, etc and topped with fresh avocado, melted cheese and cojita. It was amazing. The French toast had hints of real vanilla and was flavored so well. The ranchero omelette was tasty and their hot salsa is a must. I ordered a class mimosa (not pictured) and I believe made with freshly squeezed oj. Pictured is a michelada. Please keep in mind that this drink is huge! To eat, I ordered the omelette ranchero. Packed with bell peppers, steak and cheese. Served with a side of avo and breakfast potatoes. This was so so good! You can ask for hot sauce. Was expecting cholula or store bought. Went mid morning. Had the chilaquiles along with a side of bacon. Bacon tasted like it was a day old. Not crispy. But burnt and chewy. The chilaquiles had too much sauce but still delicious. The restaurant itself is clean. Bright. Cute. The drink menu looks good. But I didn't have drinks. Service was good. Server was attentive. Food arrived quickly. Overall it was meh. Food here is great. Taste very authentic and had a good level of spice. We got fajitas, quesabirria tacos and a birria burrito. Everyone enjoyed everything they ordered. The only issue for the four stars instead of five is that I had a pick up order and the restaurant forgot the tortillas for my fajitas and they didn't give us any salsa at all. Having to go back to the store after getting home was a real bummer, so I suggest checking your order before leaving the restaurant. read more

This place absolutely rocks. I had a byo omelette with chorizo, peppers, queso fresco, and tomato. The refried beans are heavenly as is the chorizo. Their house made hot sauce is perfectly balanced. What a great spot for brunch! Stopped by with a few friends and had a great experience. The food was excellent and the staff was super friendly. On this visit we tried their chilaquiles and their pancake special (with fruity pebbles). Both items were good but the chilaquiles were the standout for us! The chips were crispy and the salsa was super flavorful but not too spicy (although they will give a homemade hot sauce if you want to kick things up). The pancakes were huge and super fluffy. I'd consider trying their tree leches pancakes next time but their breakfast burritos are very enticing and I think it would be hard to pass up another savory dish. The Michelada (iykyk) was enormous and apparently their mimosas have half a bottle of champagne according to my friends - so a fun spot if you're looking to enjoy that kinda brunch vibe too. Overall excited to have this in the neighborhood and was glad to see they were busy! read more

Had a rough experience here -- we had a large party and were told it would be a 30 minute wait but it ended up being over an hour even with us talking with the hostess multiple times and eventually we had to split up to get seated. Even after we offered to split up, multiple other parties walked in and were immediately seated at tables that should have been given to us. When we talked to the hostess and very nicely expressed our frustration they were clearly annoyed and unapologetic that we had waited so long. After getting seated, our food came out relatively fast and the wait staff was good but inattentive which we understood since they were busy. The food itself was pretty good (4/5), but considering the whole ordeal just to get seated I won't be returning. If you have a small party it probably wouldn't be an issue but I would steer clear for larger parties and double whatever wait time they give you. read more
