I'm not a fan. We went here because it was vey close to our parking spot. Pros - Large drink menu - Lots of items on the food menu - Inside and outside seating Cons - Food is just okay - Service was terrible (more below) - Drinks were okay Food - Tried the cheese dip, camarones Ala diablo and taco salad. Cheese dip was good. Taco salad wasn't great (steak meat was chewy). Camarones Ala diablo was a solid 3 stars, but it was hot as hell. I love spicy food, but it is hard to enjoy when your eyes are tearing up and snot is coming out of your nose. Drinks were okay. The bartender put too much spice around the rim. The condensation was causing it to drip down the glass, making a hell of a mess. Service was terrible. Were were the first people there for lunch. One table that came in 10 minutes after us, changed twice while we were there. The waitress was MIA multiple times. There is another Mexican restaurant in Carolina Beach that is just a few blocks away, which is much better. I doubt I'll be back. read more

I went in all because earlier in the day, I saw they had Elote in a cup... and I've never had it in a cup before, always on the cob. The chips and salsa was delicious. Salsa wasn't spicy, which is how I prefer it. There was an awkward wait being seated, as I was greeted by the bartender, then she disappeared, then greeted me again and finally told me I could sit anywhere I like. I grabbed a menu and had a seat and a different employee came to get my order. She was very nice and attentive. The inside was bright and lively with music playing. They also have outdoor seating available, but it was pretty windy outside with a storm coming in, so it was empty. The only downside to this restaurant is that there is only about 3 spots for cars to park near the entrance, as their parking lot to the left is completely blocked off with concrete barriers and the parking lot to the right is solely for the restaurant to the right of this one. I ended up having to park across the street in the pay-per-hour parking. That's a bummer. read more

Called on the phone to order food to go. They have their own parking lot. Ordered the Mely Cazuela, one of the authentic dishes. It had a lot of food, including grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, ground chorizo, grilled onions, mushrooms, nopales, fried melted cheese, fried jalapeño with a side of rice, refried pinto beans, spicy green tomatillo sauce, and choice of flour or corn tortillas. Chose flour tortillas and they were rolled up, warm, wrapped in foil (Corn tortillas are not made from scratch). The dish is pricey at $24.99, but it could feed at least two people. All of the food was very good and cooked well. All of the meat were tender and shrimp was not overcooked. It's hard to come across chicken that's not overcooked and this place does it right. Only complaints I have are that the food was a bit oily and too salty. However, my partner did not think the food tasted too salty. High chairs are available. Plenty of seating inside and they do have covered outdoor seating. I would definitely come again, but next time ask them to cut back on the salt. Finally a good Mexican restaurant in Carolina Beach! For authentic Mexican food on the island- this is the place in Carolina Beach. The restaurant serves up excellent salsa, tasty tortillas, and the best birria tacos. I had street tacos which were delicious. The pork was so tasty. Street corn side is a must order! I also had the chicken soup - rice, cilantro, onion and tomato. So yummy. Cocktails are definitely geared to tourists- but hey. Something for everyone. We are lucky to have several Mexican restaurant choices in Carolina Beach - but for the authentic,spicy flavors - Melecios is the best. It has tripe and lingua on the menu. read more

Authentic Mexican food finally hits Carolina Beach! I have been here three times so far and each time was a great experience. The food was delicious. My favorite dish is the fajitas. Finally decided to give this place a try. Since the menu does not actually list what is in the "alcoholic" drinks I'm pretty certain there was no alcohol in the drinks we ordered. They were watery and pretty tasteless. The server then had a mini meltdown because the table next to us did not leave her a tip. She proceeds to tell us she did not even get a dollar and makes 2.15 an hr. I was beginning to understand why they did not tip her.... The food came.. it was just ok. The fajitas did not come with any lettuce, cheese ,salsa or guacamole. It was just the meat, peppers, onions, rice and refried beans. Would I go back ?? Went for Labor Day weekend and the restaurant had little to no people (first red flag) , took forever to take our drink order even though there was barely any people food was not that great, and then the prices on the menu do not match what they charge seems they charge what they want, when we asked for an itemized receipt so we can see the prices why our bills were high, they claimed they can't print one. We split checks with our party and ours bill based on the prices on the menu should have been around 40$ at most plus the "3.75%" of the card charge and our bill was $56 so when I asked why it was that price if we each calculated our bills, the server gave different prices for our plates than the ones on the menu. Maybe the tip was already included but based on the other reviews previous servers had been upset because of no tip. Coming from a Mexican person this is not a good Mexican food place, the server was moody. The ribeye is a thin slice of steak. Never got our cheese dip or guacamole because they claimed they didn't have any, weird for a Mexican restaurant in my opinion so be careful. No! Very poor experience. Food was subpar. Meats were dry & had no taste. We tried tacos, enchiladas & quesadillas, none of which were any good. I've known this resturaunt and the owner since it started in a small place in rural lumberton. The nachos here are great and the waiter I had was very attentive. The tacos are savory and meat is delicious with loads of toppings, grilled onions, cilantro, fresh onions, and you can ask for salsa. The Al pastor tacos are always my favorite and you can taste the sweetness here. The tortillas are perfectly soft for corn tortillas, I feel like they are handmade. Drinks (aquas frescas) are made fresh. No powdered horchata. My mom said the food here is like in mexico. Pretty sure the negative reviews are made up or exaggerating. Prices are too steep for me but the quality here makes it worth it. read more

Tried to eat there with my family of 8 for my father's birthday. We were very shocked though whenever we sat down to order drinks because they had no alcoholic beverages although they advertised them, and the food was also very expensive. Had a wonderful dinner at Melecio's! The service was fantastic, the ambiance was festive, and the food was out of this world! We had the enchiladas and tres fajitas, both delicious. The portions were large so we had plenty of leftovers. The chips and salsa were also the best we've had. Their food is authentic Mexican. So glad to have this welcome addition to Carolina Beach! My family and I decided to try this new restaurant on the island. We had heard great things about the food and while it was good there were some issues. Our waitress to begin with seemed very young and communication was difficult for ordering our food. We were also confused on the fact of that all of the plates are served with french fries, even the table across from us heard us discussing the menu and agreed and stated "the only reason we stayed here is because all the other restaurants are a 40 minute wait". The prices are very steep! Nothing on the menu is lower then 16.99 meal wise. My mother in law asked for a small side of sour cream and she was the only one who asked for it and they brought out a bowl of sour cream and used a singular scoop out of it and we all joked and said yeah that will be $5.... when the bill came out it was very close. When we received our bill we asked that the sour cream was removed since we didn't even eat it, madison who was a server came out and was super professional and considerate she also agreed that the sour cream portion was large for one person and stated she could have the manager come out so we could express our issue. The manager that came to our table looked nothing like a manager and definitely did not act like a manager she was extremely unprofessional. when we expressed our concerns, she stated that once food has left the kitchen they can no longer be taken back and removed from the bill... I have been in the food industry since I was 15 and any problem a customer has with food it was always compensated. We are very confused due to the prices being so high why they were not able to remove a $4.00 side of sour cream. It was also stated that they will not have liquor license for another two weeks.
