Compared to Cox Farms, Ticonderoga Farms is small potatoes. But I have a not quite two year old so this place was the perfect, low key environment for us to celebrate pumpkin spice season. We had so much fun that we actually went back twice in one week, one for a field trip and one with a group of friends. The most enjoyable part for my daughter were the multiple playgrounds scattered through the lot. She loved exploring each and every single one and they were never too crowded to play on. Attractions include a pillow bounce (think a moon bounce minus the colors), several large slides, chickens, goats and baby pigs, bamboo maze, hayride, cow train, wooden bridge and some live music. As someone who has been going to Cox Farms since I was 4 years wold I definitely felt like Ticonderoga was missing the feeling of festivity that brings. Things like apple cider, hot popcorn, friendly attendants staffing every attraction (besides the hayride, everything was self serve) and a spruce up on the artwork in the hayride area would go a long way. There are not too many food vendors on site but they do have some food trucks come in on the weekend. That being said if low key and little crowds is your jam than this is your place! I'll definitely be making this place my fall spot, but as soon as my daughter can fully enjoy Cox Farms...we outtttt!!! read more

The produce and folks at Paprika Farms are amazing! I picked 73 lb. of zucchini, with nary a blemish or imperfection on any of them. As an avid gardener myself, I really appreciate the outstanding quality. Andrew and his wife (sorry I didn't catch her name) are welcoming, knowledgeable, congenial and beyond helpful. I understand they took over the farm two years ago from Andrew's Dad. There's even wagons available to schlep your pickings to your vehicle. The posted signage was clear and helpful. I'll be back! We just had a company picnic and the venue was perfect for it. Plenty of tables and shade but also open areas for corn hole and for the kids to run around. The staff is friendly and helpful. The pony rides and petting zoo were from an outside firm that they recommended and they were great too. It's great to see kids playing in the fresh air, particularly on the long slides and in the moon bounces. We look forward to pedal car races next year! read more

This place used to be very lively and full of animals and fun activities. I went there yesterday and there was no animals, there was a lot of activities completely taken out. The only things to do there now is the slides and tether ball, with some other small activities. I believe now the only service that's provided is booking large events, rather than being able to pay to go and have fun, but I could be wrong. Despite this, I still got a pretty photo of the bridge :) (which now has a weight limit for some reason, when it didn't before). So overall if you're there to enjoy a company event and not so worried about the activities around, this could be a nice place. But besides that, it's pretty rundown :/. read more

I have had the pleasure of going to Ticonderoga farms with my family every year since I was a kid to cut down our Christmas tree. While this used to be a pleasant and memorable part of the holiday experience, this will be the last year we do it, as the place has become a shadow of its former self. The point of this place is to get yourself a decent tree and be able to cut it down yourself. This year, the only decent trees are the pre-cut ones they have, and why would you drive all that way for pre-cut trees? While the selection of trees used to be amazingly large in previous years, the pickings this year were slim to nil. Most of the trees were way too small, too big, too bare, damaged in some way, or just plain ugly. What's worse, while there used to be a tractor/hayride out to the tree-cutting areas in previous years, they mysteriously stopped offering this service this year. None of the workers seemed to know why, and in asking them I realized that everyone there was a temp worker, not really the family business anymore it makes itself out to be. So, instead of the hayride, we had the fun of walking through puddles of water and mud while desperately looking for any semblance of a good tree. Judging by the numbers of tired-looking families we came across during our search, we guessed theirs weren't going any better. We finally settled on a tree near the edges of the area that was decent enough for our purposes. Despite being short, it still ended up costing an outrageous $50 (!!!). Thank heavens we didn't have to pay to park as well! This place is pretty far out in the middle of nowhere, though the trip was worth it in previous years. Not anymore. If you find a good place to cut down your own trees, let me know: I definitely won't be returning to this one again. Overall: 1.0 star ---------------- Pros: - Parking is plentiful and free. - Employees are polite (if clueless). - Fun-looking kiddie area might be nice during good weather. Cons: - Selection of trees is terrible and makes coming here a futile effort. - If you do happen to find a halfway decent tree, expect to mortgage something for it. - No more hayrides means long walks through the mud. I visited Ticonderoga Farms a couple of weeks after visiting Cox Farms. While as Kimi S. said it's "small potatoes" compared to Cox, it was much more laid back and provided some unique experiences that were not at Cox. The price was slightly less ($17.95 vs. $20) although my son was still free. There was a special company party at the same time I visited and it, honestly, seemed like most of the people there that day were guests of that company. Parking was a breeze. I brought in my stroller and the whole area is pretty stroller friendly. There are multiple playgrounds throughout the farm. My son really enjoyed the swings in the kiddie zone. He also loved the little slide there. There are large slides at Ticonderoga but not as many as at Cox. We enjoyed the bamboo maze, the wooden bridge that goes across the water, the cow train (I was able to ride with him!), and the hayride. Although the path was less impressive we still enjoyed the hayride every bit as much. There are the typical barnyard animals and a patch where you can pick your pumpkins. A free pie size pumpkin comes with each admission. Also unique to Ticonderoga (I know it's at Great Country too) was the pillow bounce. My son loved being held up and bounced! We shared a pulled pork sandwich ($8) which was ok. There is no yellow jacket infestation here so that was a plus! There were lots of photo ops at Ticonderoga too although nearly all were seasonal (ie: pumpkin) related. We enjoyed this smaller fall festival just as much as Cox and would return again in the future. read more

Just driving here is no small feat. Long, windy dirt/gravel road that probably takes years off your tires. Came here immediately after visiting Cox Farm's Market which was like a bustling hive of busy honeybees. Contrast that with Ticonderoga Farm Market, and this place looks like the latest victim of Colony Collapse Disorder. The Festival Market at Cox was full of colorful pumpkins, gourds, apples, etc. Contrast that with the Ticonderoga's Market which looked more like a throwback of Soviet-era grocery markets. I'm obviously exaggerating, but that's really the first impression I got, and like an old Head & Shoulders commercial would say....you never get a second chance to make a first impression. But I guess in this case it would be a 3rd chance to make a 2nd impression....because the entire drive toward Ticonderoga Farms was baited with steady anticipation as you followed the bread-crumb trail of signs pointing toward the entrance, reminiscent of the South of the Border billboard signs you see along I-95 as you drive toward the North Carolina - South Carolina border. You'd figure from the number of signs that were posted this would be a bigger deal. These guys really need to do a deal with Cox, because that place is seriously bursting at the seams. read more

I'm so surprised at the negative reviews! We thought this place was awesome!!! Both my mother-in-law & my grandmother (retired teachers) raved that this farm outdid Cox Farms by miles. However, we went on a weekday when there was virtually no one there, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. We paid $10 a ticket. When you walk in, they have some great arrangements with their pumpkins that take some adorable pictures. Upon entering the farm, we saw 3 awesome slides, which were clean looking and very tall. My boys (9, 7, & almost 2) loved them! They went down over and over again. They probably had about 7-8 slides in all. They also had 2 large bounce pillow type things, which was their favorite part. They had an adorable Noah's Ark play ground for little ones, although we never made it over since my toddler spotted the chickens and roosters, which crowed like crazy! We got confused trying to find the hay ride but eventually figured it out. The only thing I didn't quite like was the fall decor on the hayride. Severed heads and gory type stuff. We're a Christian family who doesn't celebrate Halloween in that light, so about half way through, my boys didn't like what they were seeing. I thought they could have toned that down quite a bit since its young kids on the hay ride. We got to go into the fields from the hay ride and pick the pumpkins, which was enjoyable. Some downfalls were that there was no one selling animal feed so we could have fed the pigs and goats. We didn't see a whole lot of farm hands while we walked around. Also there was no food available for purchase like they probably have on the weekend. However, you could totally bring a picnic and it would be fantastic. They had many places to sit and eat. I jussst realized as many times as we've been here I've never reviewed this place. What's with all the low reviews?? This place is awesome. I've been here in the summer, as well as their Christmas fest and Easter Egg hunt/Spring fest. Met Santa, the Easter bunny, all that. Staff is helpful and friendly. Hayrides, cow trains, pillow jumps, monster slides, swinging troll bridge, castle, seasaws, pirate ship playgrounds, a cute general store, and always cleaned restrooms....what more could you want?? My guess is people are taking issue with the admission prices. Is $13 a lot for admission? Yes. But honestly, for as much as you're getting, I kind of understand the cost. It's also pretty much on par with the admission prices of Cox Farms and I would argue is much cooler than Cox Farms. And with a lot of these farm type places, you get what you pay for. The only farm as cool as this is Great Country Farms out in Bluemont, in my opinion. If you want some budget playground, go elsewhere...but this is the premium child's farm in northern VA. read more

I usually refrain from writing negative reviews. Especially on small family owned businesses; as I realize the impact it can have on it. However, there are safety concerns here that I believe need to be addressed as a precaution for future accidents I can see happening. My husband, son (who's not yet 2), and I all went to the farm today- to enjoy one last fall festival before us departing the US on a 2 year assignment overseas. While staying in the NoVa area, we have already been to Summers Farm, and Cox Farms three times since the opening of the season. I had low expectations of this place, as I read other recent Yelp reviews..but I'm afraid this is worse than what I could've even imagined. Yesterday it was raining all day, so we planned accordingly with clothes that we wouldn't mind getting muddy. However this place was SOAKED. Giant puddles, pretty much everywhere and on everything. Some of their staff was out raking the gravel, why not have them dry off the slides that kids are using? My husband was helping my son climb up the pirate ship swing set, and fell down on the plank helping him because it was so slippery. Everywhere you look is a hazard of some sort, with clearly no discretion for children's safety in mind. You truly can tell which places care about their facilities, and use their profits from admission and put it back into their product (Cox Farms). Versus an establishment like this, that is simply outdated, unsafe, and run-down, that hasn't updated its attractions in years. Save your money, and time driving out there folks. read more

This is an absolutely fun and very family oriented place! My daughter's school took them here for a field trip. Three hours wasn't enough time for all the fun she was having. She was in love with the bouncing pillows, slides, tunnels, and the hayride. I loved seeing the fire pits ready and waiting for s'mores. I loved seeing that they had plenty of space for picnicking, and so many activities for all ages (and mobility capacities). We returned again, but this time with my husband and my in-laws. They loved it! We spent much more time. There was a lot of people, but the activities are so spread out that it doesn't feel crowded. We got to see much more of the farm, especially the animals. My daughter had so much fun visiting the goats, chickens, ducks, and pigs. She loved playing inside the little houses that were spread out throughout the property. Since it was a weekend, there were food vendors and music, and it was quite enjoyable. The Halloween decor is so nice, and it really gets you on the spirit of the fall. My in-laws loved it all. They obviously loved seeing their grandchild have so much fun, but it was also very easy for them to move around. The employees are nice. The market, while somewhat bare, does have some fun items (honey, butters, jams) that I think people would enjoy. I love that they gave each paying customer a small pumpkin. My daughter certainly enjoyed picking one out! This is a definite must for families with children. Small children have a BLAST here. We left after 4-5 hours of fun, because my daughter was exhausted, even though she kept implying that she didn't want to leave. I'd love to see what they have to offer during the winter and the spring months. I bet it will be fun! read more

I was surprised how close the farm is to Gum Springs Road. But when you get there it you find a nice property. We came to purchase their figs. Unfortunately, we left without any as they were pricey at 8 dollars a pound and having to buy a large container. The figs didn't look that fresh either with blemishes and some containers had figs that were oozing liquid. So we left empty handed. read more

Cliff Notes: Crazy high prices for little to nothing. I spent over $100 for 2.5 hours of "fun", for a family of 3. For entrance, it cost over $60 by itself. This does not include any of the rides (which are extra), or food (which is also expensive). I left the ticketbooth after paying in a bad mood. My daughter had her heart set on the "farm" experience, but I'm a working man and $63 is a lot to pay to go play in someone's backyard. If you're looking for a "family-owned family-operated" farm experience -- you will not find it here. No one from a "family" works here from what I can tell, looks like they posted on craigslist and pulled the first 10 applicants they could find. There were a lot of people here, surprisingly. Seems like the crowd was upper-middle class looking for a chic rural farm experience so they could tell their friends they got a little dirty over the weekend. read more

An excellent value! I read several less than glowing reviews but don't believe it. New management and solid staffing have this place up and running. My family decided to try out this place on Easter weekend, tickets seemed pricey at about $15 each (holiday weekend rate), but we found this was a great value for families with 12-and under kids! We had a blast! The grounds were immaculately clean, mowed and trimmed, a huge area with literally dozens of sites to explore with your kids, multiple food/concessions vendors, campfires, pedal go-cart track, live music, I could go on. My kids had the most fun on the huge slides set up on a couple hills on the farm. They're completely safe and well engineered. You can literally spend all day exploring and playing with your family. Came here for the first time this year looking to cut our own Christmas tree. Don't know anything else about the rest of the farm, but this review is for the tree hunting. Overall it was pretty terrible. Thankfully we didn't have to pay admission to cut our own tree or it would have been a deal-breaker before we even got there. We had been to Joe's Xmas Tree Farm a couple years prior and it was not the best but significantly better than Ticonderoga. Seems that Joe's recently sold their land to a developer, so we gave Ticonderoga a shot. The cut your own section is an embarrassment. Spent an hour and a half there with my family and left empty handed. For the price, not a single tree worth bringing home. Poorly maintained, if at all. Trees too close together so they don't grow like a Christmas tree should. They just look like natural trees you could find anywhere else in the woods. If you live anywhere near this farm, I would highly suggest making the drive to Middleburg Christmas Tree Farm. Hard to find a tree there NOT worth cutting. And prices are much more down to earth. Stay away from Ticonderoga for your holiday tree needs. read more

I love supporting these types of businesses, but doooooon't go unless you want to throw away money. My family visited the farm this past Saturday for their Easter egg hunt and farm fun. I thought it would be comparable to Cox Farm's fall festival since the price is similar. I thought wrong. A few points: - the entrance fee should be discounted after a certain time (there were quite a few unexpected activities closed a full hour before closing. - there should be at least ONE free pony ride with admission. We paid $5 additional per ride per child to ride around a tiny circle twice. The company running the ponies were extremely nice though. -beautiful property, but it felt like something was missing for the amount we paid (almost $60 just for admission and who knows for all of the "extras") I'm afraid we won't be back. If you have never gone to a farm festival this may be fun, but if you have, you'll know that this is overpriced. Hopefully, they make a few adjustments. read more

Visited yesterday on a beautiful day with my wife, 5-year-old and 1-year-old. We were surprised by the lack of crowds (yay!). Entrance fees were pretty expensive for what was there. Thankfully the 1-year-old was free. I can see it being a good time for younger (3-5 year old) kids. The slides were fine. The moonbounce was fun (tho as a 40+ year old, I'm sore today). There were some sections of the farm that had that "abandoned carnival grounds" feel to them. We wandered past the goat enclosure and came to what seemed to be some old slides. They were overgrown with weeds and kinda creepy. Beyond that on the path, we got to the "pick your own produce" garden, but it was pretty picked over. read more

My husband and I visited this weekend with our DD in hopes of having some fun, as well as exploring this as a possible birthday venue. Regret from the moment we handed over $12.95/pp. The first clue should've been the empty parking lot on a beautiful day. Pros: The animals were friendly. (The staff--mostly kids--were not.) That's it. We circled by the hayride area a few times; waiting 15-20 minutes, but it was like ghost town. No staff to be found. I called the main number a few times, but no one answered. (Ironically when we left there were 3 staff in the market area and the phone was ringing...and ringing and ringing.) Hot dog concession stand--closed. Tot lot area--dirty from grass clippings on all the equipment. Slides without any sacks. I wish I would've looked at the Yelp reviews before wasting my time and money. read more

My kids and I love it here! The slides and hayride are lots of fun. You don't have to stand in long lines like some other farms just to take a turn. The best part are all the fire pits! We always roast marshmallows and make S'mores when we go. And if we forget our supplies they have them there for purchase. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. They should have an upper age limit on the easter egg hunt because there are always those teenagers who edge out the younger kids and take most of the haul. We went to the farm on a hot July day and when we arrived we were the only people there. After checking out the website the kids I nanny for were excited to check out some of the activities such as the bamboo maze and the peddle carts. Unfortunatley, the maze was closed and there was no attendant to be found at the peddle carts. The cow train was also unavailable. The kids enjoyed the slides, the "pillow" bouncing area and the newborn pigs, which a kind attendant was nice enough to let us hold. It didn't seem fair to me that we paid the full price but were unable to enjoy many of the advertised activities. I might try this place one more time in the fall, but I'm just not sure. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I was appalled by the way this place treats their animals, especially their birds. I walked around to the back of where the birds where to see the ducks and there were both chickens and ducks with serious ailments that were clearly NOT being attended to. I grew up on a farm and around these animals so I know something was wrong. I tried to find a manager to speak to, but one was not there. If you pay to go here you are paying to support animal cruelty. Lastly, there were two goats out and walking around among guests (i.e. a lot of small children) which is a hazard! I tried calling the front office and looking for an employee to get them back into their pen, but no one answered the call and no employees were anywhere to be found. I ended up wrangling all the goats in myself. There are better farms to go to in the area that care for their animals. PLEASE go to them instead! read more

My grandkids were amazed by the goat hotel - who would think there was such a thing? They were excited about all the different animals and they scampered around the exhibits and did not want to leave. As for me, I spent my summers on a farm and I love to be in that atmosphere. I am an avid gardener and I was interested in their agricultural projects. This place is a charming little adventure tucked away from view - a place to get back to nature and slow down. I have gotten my pumpkins and hayride fix a few times, and this year I was blown away by the light show. I love this place. read more

I took the family ( two adults and a 19 month old) here one late Sunday afternoon in October. This farm feels family run -- it is smaller, maybe less polished but perfect for the under 5 age group. It had just enough space and stuff to be fun. Our highlights were playing on the ark and forts (normally there are too many kids for my daughter to feel comfortable walking around without us), riding the big slides, walking over the swinging bridge, looking at the animals (including 2 week old goats) and making smores over the fire pit. the hayride was cute -- it takes about 10 minutes to go out to the pumpkin patch and along the way you see fake deer and some skeletons and other scary items. I was sorry to see that all the pumpkins were already picked and you just picked them up off the ground but I guess it would be hard to pick them yourself with out a knife. This is definitely not as "polished" or commercial as Cox Farms which you pass on the way to this farm but just enough stuff for the little kids -- which Cox can often be overwhelming and have very long lines. Other interesting tidbits -- you can call in advance and they can have fresh eggs or other items ready for you! And the christmas festival starts a few days after thanksgiving -- I think I also saw signs for pick you our/cut your own christmas trees. read more

This "farm" is very overpriced for what you get. The first thing you see entering the farm is a asmall pond with fake ducks swimming in it. Just strange. Upon arriving for a reserved group the young lady working the entry kiosk was bored, un knowledgeable and unhelpful. I felt like we had intterupted her staring into the empty parking lot with my very simple questions. The group of children had a fun time on the slides, and in the mini playground (geared toward smaller children). The hayride entrance was a little hard to find, and the ride itself was punctuated with a few random plywood painted dinosaurs , tigers and target-practice style deer. Cox's farm does this better, where it's so over the top that it's fun. This ride just seemed confused. Even one of the four year olds pointed out to me that it would have been nicer to see real animals. They have a space in the front for a produce stand and it looked entirely void of anything you could purchase. When we left I noticed closed clear bins of produce that had "Great Country Farms" stamped on them. Very confused. The signs everywhere were advertizing honey, I saw none anywhere. I supposed I could havve asked but the lady would have probably been confused by the word honey. read more

We've been to get our Christmas tree every year starting in 2008. We wanted to make this a family tradition. Unfortunately for us, each year the staff gets progressively more rude about my daughter's service dog. This year was the worst. Let me just say that my daughter and her dog have been everywhere together - a book signing for Jimmy Carter, A picture of her and her dog with the former governor of VA in his offices at a bill signing (Tim Kaine) when we helped update VA service dog laws, a dude ranch in Colorado, flying at her feet on United, traveling on the Auto Train to Disney World - and Disney World among numerous restaurants, cafes grocery stores etc. Her dog is perfectly behaved and trained to the nines - he has made life for my daughter so much better. I'm sure the Ticonderoga staff are not giving their behavior a second thought - but for us, the experience lingers as my daughter has to come back from the panic and fear of being separated from her dog and from us based her perspective from the rude and illegal behavior of the staff there. There was no sensitivity, no accommodation and no common sense or common decency in the way the staff treated my family. We got the Ticonderoga Farms message that we are not welcome there with our disabled daughter - LOUD and CLEAR. We didn't even get an apology. Who any one of us patronizes is up to each individual. If discrimination doesn't bother you than by all means patronize Ticonderoga Farms. Update: We sent a letter (including a phone number) via US Mail to Ticonderoga Farms, also an email through their website (as we did last year 2012 and the year before 2011.) As expected not a word in return, no phone call or response of any kind. read more

I really wanted to like this place, in fact I did at first, but something about the lack luster attitude of their staff really turned me off and the very overpriced admission fee didn't help either. We actually looked into this farm as a potential place to hold our wedding ceremony and reception because of it's unique appeal. We thought the grounds were so interesting and had lots of fun things to offer, but working with their administrative staff was like pulling teeth. They never had any answers for us and when it came time to sign the contract and put the deposit down they were non-responsive. So glad we found all that out ahead of time before we gave them any money! It was expensive for the quality of attractions. We paid $15 per person, including our two year old. Immediately we thought about how expensive it would be for a larger family with two or three children. Everything was very run down and shoddy looking. I think it is best for younger aged children, as most of the attractions seemed geared towards them. We played on the moon bounce, pirate ship, cow train and slides - which were homemade with pieces of plexiglass lined up down the hill. The cow train jerked around, a lot, so I'm happy I was able to ride with my son. The hayride was simple, but just enough for our two year old. Each paid admission allows you one free "pie-sized" pumpkin, which we took advantage of at the stop at the patch during the hayride. We also bought food from the staff to feed the goats, chickens and peacocks. The animals were friendly and it felt safe, although you could stick you hand directly through the fences and touch them. There were concessions for sale, marshmallows for fire pits, and larger pumpkins and local honey for sale at the little market but not much else. Pros - not crowded, age-appropriate for families with young children, fun! Cons - expensive, worn down equipment, kind-of out of the way to get there If the price were less, I would consider giving a higher rating. read more

I just called to book my group. I was given one price then if I have 20 something kids I get a discounted price when I first called. I spoke to Kathleen to book a group and she changed the rules to 50 kids I get a discount. I am a small business and can't afford a whole lot. They change their rules as they go and what they feel like. I booked it but I am going to go ahead and cancel it. Not impressed. Not professional to change the rules as you go. What if I paid them the 50% deposit then they change the rules??? What then? After I read the reviews also I don't want my families to be disappointed with paying so much money and not being a great experience. read more

Seriously overpriced. We just wanted to pick our own pumpkins but we had to pay the entire entry price (15$) plus the cost of pumpkins. We just purchased ones from the front. And the selection is very disappointing. We should have just gone to a grocery store. . read more
