Ed M (Fairfax Station) Years ago we purchased and had a ventless fireplace system installed in our family room to replace a drafty pre-fab builder pack fireplace. This allowed us to close up the flue and stop the big time drafts that were a real problem. We absolutely fell in love with our ventless and used it virtually every day during the chilly and cold months. Regrettably I wasn't aware I should be getting a service check every year. So I called the company we bought the ventless from. They were eager to come out for a service fee of 350 bucks. That sounded high so I poked around on the internet and ran across Amazing Flame. They quickly scheduled me for a charge of less than 150 dollars. Service was always top notch and we started getting an annual visit from Amazing Flame. Mike and Russ were both excellent. Recently the pilot on my ventless would not stay lit. I called Amazing Flame and spoke with Lenah. In short order Russ called me, asked a bunch of questions and had me send him photos of my ventless. Initially Russ told me that the valve assembly on my model was clearly defective and also that he was not aware of any replacement valves that could be installed for my model. I almost agreed to have the entire system replaced ... until Russ asked me to give him a few days to seek out a less expensive solution. Now tell me, what contractor does this? Good to his word Russ called back last week after talking to the manufacturer and advised me that it was possible to replace the guts of system with a repair kit that would cost me way less than half the price of a full replacement. The kit was ordered and Russ was at my home today to install it. Everything is working perfectly again. We are extremely happy to have our fireplace back at a very reasonable cost. As always, Amazing Flame left the family room cleaner than it was before Russ arrived. Russ also educated me on things to keep an eye out for going forward. Amazing Flame and Russ (and Mike and Lenah) have earned my highest possible recommendation. Absolutely fantastic. read more

My Feb 2018 experience with Amazing Flame was this: "A best-of-class company." It started way, way before David Sanders showed up at my house and impressed me with his competence and affable nature. It started with my first phone conversation with Lenah Cox, the company's front-line dispatcher (and PR ambassador). She did everything humanly possible to explain what service the company provides over a wide range of customer issues. And, she did this with a flourish of customer-care. BEWARE THE FALSE ANALYSIS SALES PITCH. I'm sure their techs are very good, and cleaning services are fine, but Russell (the owner and sales person?) is a real problem. Needed a replacement log set, and had a problem with the flame going out multiple times during the evening. Was told that it was impossible to get a replacement log set, and that log sets were very specific to the layout of holes in the burner, so you need a new fireplace. WRONG. Just contact Mountain View Hearth on the Internet - they have or can find any log set. Mine was 20 years old, they found the exact model replacement. As for the flame going out (requiring banging on the glass to get it relit), Russell explained how the burner system and air inflow/outflow are in a precise balance, and you need a new fireplace...$6000. WRONG AGAIN. Contacted Rick at Air Flow (he's the best, really), who came and explained that dirt gets into the pilot light, reducing the size of the pilot light flame. The reduced flame fails to cover the thermocouple - the small vertical pin next to the pilot light. If it fails to sense flame properly, it assumes a problem and cuts off the gas. Smaller pilot light flame...it cuts off the gas. Rick from Air Flow cleaned the pilot light, and the entire unit, replaced the logs, added some hi-tech embers that look beautiful, and it's perfect. Avoid Amazing Flame, and especially Russell's BS excuses for pushing a replacement fireplace on you. Just outright dishonest. read more

Amazing Flame brought back the warmth for the holidays!! Our 18-year old gas fireplace's pilot would come on, but the main flame wouldn't kick in. Tried for an hour and half to fix myself, but when YouTube help videos starting talking about replacing a "thermocouple?" I figured it's better to call in the professionals. Plus, the unit was due for a cleaning. The technician, Mike, called on his way over, and then again when he arrived. He was very pleasant & professional. He put down protective cloth and had all the right tools to find the problem... a tiny clear spider that had nested in the gas feeder outlet. Once removed, the system came back to life, brighter & better than before! I definitely recommend this company to anyone struggling with a gas fireplace this season. read more

Service required: Inspect and verify proper gas fireplace operation for a house sale to proceed. Everything went exceptionally well. We needed an inspector certified by the National Fireplace Institute; Amazing Flame had no problem arranging for a timely inspection. Mr. David Sanders arrived promptly, and immediately impressed us with his attention to cleanliness; e.g., cleaning each log as he removed it. The unit was over 25 years old, and of a design Mr. Sanders had not seen before, which provoked his suspicions. He verified that the unit was not only obsolete, but had been banned from Loudoun and Fairfax counties due to dangerous design elements. A total replacement was required, which would require a new connection installation by a licensed gas fitter. Since he could do no more, he clearly explained his recommendations for our next actions, and packed to leave. He said that since he could not really do a full service call, we had NO charge to pay. While we wish we had a different result, we remain very pleased with the service and professionalism provided by Amazing Flame. read more

Good riddance to this irresponsible, dishonest, greedy, ill run, arrogant, frankly mean, excuse for a company. This company has become arrogant and abusive because they do not care if they lose business. They stay busy enough to abuse clients like sport. They lie, therefore they cheat, and they do not keep their word. They don't make 'excuses' to not keep their word, they just say with a smirk " we know we said that, we just aren't going to do it". I paid them to come fix a leak in my fireplace unit line within the box. It turns out the flex line in there is not to code, but their tech didn't tell me that. He just told me I needed a plumbing company because he couldn't do it. okay. The gas was off due to the leak needing to be fixed, so when he said he couldn't fix the leak, that meant he therefore couldn't check or service anything that day. He was nice and felt bad for charging me the 244$ that day when he couldn't service anything or check it. So he said, and I quote ' whenever you get the plumber to fix the leak, call us back and I will come out and service your gas log set for half the regular price". A very nice & sincere promise. I didn't forget that. So I called the minute the gas line was replaced yesterday. It was 850$ to have the plumber fix it. They had to cut drywall and work on it for 2 hours. It just got done due to size of the job ($) and obvious covid delays. I called "not so amazing or honest Flame" immediately after the gas line was fixed JUST like the tech told me to do. We have had over 12 mo's of covid that we all just came through, and because it was the prior springtime, ....Ms 'high on her power' Lenah, decided to tell me that : she decided to trash her companies' promise to us.... because too much time passed. Her tech didn't give me a 12 month expiration date when he promised me the small discount. He said WHENEVER you get to that point call me. Lenah is rude maybe even a little unstable. Even her emails are curt and arrogantly written. She is a terrible rep for the company . Without her they might have a decent company. There truly are too many companies out there to be dealing with arrogant nasty front desks that hate the customers. There are a high percentage of bad reviews on here very similar to mine. I just read a few. I ended up using a company that services northern Va who put me on the schedule for 3 days from now. Half the price of AF, 25 yrs experience, master tech, service, install, they do it all. All things work for the good:) read more

My wife and I recently moved to a home with a gas fireplace and I could not get the pilot light lit. I randomly called Amazing Flame on a weekend, and before 9 AM on Monday I received a return call. When I made my appointment I was given a time between 8 and 8:30 AM on a Friday. Scott called around 8:10 AM to tell me he was 10 minutes away. When he showed up he immediately impressed by removing his shoes so as not to mar the hardwood floors. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and let me see what he was doing. For an extra charge he installed a remote control device - I love it! The whole visit was less than one hour. I would recommend Amazing Flame to anyone that needs their gas fireplace maintained or repaired, they are very professional and courteous. read more

I literally had the worst customer experience of my life with this company. Sadly, this was a company that I had used several times in the past to service my gas fireplace for cleaning and repairs. Someone had recommended me to them in the past and I had kept their information on file over the years. I even kept a past receipt from the technician with part numbers because I knew I might need it if the time came to buy replacement parts for the fireplace. So when I decided that it was time to replace the glass screen on the front of my fireplace, Amazing Flame was the only and first place I called. At first the lady I spoke to was polite. She asked me to provide some photos on my phone of the fireplace to verify some of the equipment numbers. So I did. She called me back the next day with the unfortunate news that they don't make the parts any more for my model of fireplace. No problem. It happens. My fireplace is kind of old. She offered to send out a technician to look at the unit and we scheduled an appointment. I usually put appointments on my phone calendar so I entered it in to my phone for the next Tuesday. Apparently, I had inadvertently entered the appointment on the wrong day (Wednesday) because I received a call from the technician (Scott) on Tuesday morning saying that he was at my house. I was caught off guard because I was at my job in DC and had planned to be at home the following day instead of Tuesday. Long story short I got my signals crossed and it was my mistake. Scott was obviously annoyed but told me to call the store to re-schedule the appointment. So I did. I called. I explained what happened to the lady and asked to re-schedule the appointment. She literally replied "No" and said nothing else. She did not say "No, I'm sorry but we can't re-schedule customers who miss their appointments." She simply said "No". At first I thought she was joking. Then it became clear that she wasn't. Then she went on to say something to the effect of "you will need to call another company to find the answers to your problem" and hung up on me. I have to pause to appreciate how comical that is. The technician told me to call and re-schedule and their own scheduler refused. They are not even consistent within their own company. Feeling bad, I attempted to call back again and apologize and this time the lady wouldn't even answer the phone. If I had just broken up with my high school girlfriend, I would have expected this type of experience. Not from dealing with a company whose job is to provide service to customers. Unbelievable. Insulting. And sad. They lost me as a customer forever and I will not recommend them to anyone in my community. I wasn't going to bother to post anything because I don't really care anymore but I wanted others to be aware of the experience that I had. read more

Great local owned company. We had always wanted to have a blower installed in our 12 yr old gas fireplace but the estimates were over $650. One day at Home Depot I saw a vehicle with the amazing flame logo, so I wrote it down and called. What a difference right away. The lady who answered the phone was extremely polite and helpful. We received a quote that was just about 1/2 of the previous quotes we got from competitors. They gave us a window of time for the service. Service guy was right on time! He was very courteous and friendly. Seemed very honest when we had asked him a few questions related to yearly service and such. He was very neat and clean when performing the service. He vacuumed up and left it cleaner than when he got there. He was quick and provided us with instruction on how to operate the blower. We have used the blower ever since and are extremely satisfied. read more

We had not used our gas fireplace in nearly a decade because we could not get the pilot light lit. A neighbor had called for repair of her fireplace and we saw the Amazing Flame logo on the car. We called and spoke with Leena who was both helpful and friendly. We got the next available appointment, which was 2.5 weeks out. (I believe Russ is a one-man show; this is his retirement job after 27 years of owning a fireplace store.) Russ called twenty minutes prior to arrival. He arrived on time and got right to work. He determined the problem was a corroded pilot light assembly. He cleaned it and ensured it fired correctly. He also vacuumed the interior of the fireplace and replenished the ceramic wool; cleaned both sides of the glass front; and cleaned up after himself. He bundled his dropcloths and took them outside to shake them out near his car -- nowhere near the house. Russ did not mind my watching over his shoulder and asking a handful of questions. His entire visit took under an hour and we now have a working fireplace. Hooray! The bill was exactly what I was quoted -- no surprise charges. read more

Very clean, with sheet to protect floor and vacuum for any resulting dust from repair. Today, Joel did a great job servicing our vented and ventless units. He was knowledgeable, communicative, and careful. He answered all of my questions. As a bonus, Russ was on hand to discuss an upgrade to one of our units that I am considering. i appreciated his candor and also that he didn't try to give me the hard sell on doing a replacement. Four years ago, I moved into a 10 yr old house that had a built in gas fireplace in the living room. While it looked wonderful, once that first winter rolled around... I discovered that my fireplace was actually a very powerful air conditioner (of the cooling variety)! Drafty would be an understatement when describing its winter behavior. Cold air being much denser than warm air, I didn't notice any issues in the summer as inside air leaks outward at that time. I found Amazing Flame when I started researching solutions to this problem. I subsequently enlisted them to perform their Fireplace Insulation service. What a difference it made. The entire first floor of my home improved as a result. Not only does frigid air stay outside now, but I actually get to enjoy the fireplace instead of covering it up in the winter. Amazing Flame also performed their standard service on the fireplace and worked with me to adjust/tune the various settings to my liking. At 12:10 I received a call that the technician had left because no one answered the door. Again, my son was at the house. From the initial phone call to schedule the appointment, the courteous reminder call, and to the technician (Mike Althouse) who came out to service our gas fireplace... JUST WOW!!! What friendly, timely, and incredibly pleasant individuals! I was incredibly impressed with Amazing Flame's technician: Mike was timely, respectful (taking off his shoes when entering), clean (tarps, vacuuming, etc.), and had such a pleasant demeanor! He was willing to explain all of the work they do to service the unit. Mike made our dirty, boring gas fireplace into something bright and beautiful (who knew that we didn't have to live with a "blue-flamed" fireplace) and the service also included a new switch (which we thought we didn't need until we realized it wasn't working). A year ago our gas fireplace stopped working, pilot light was working fine but the fire would not ignite. Had a repair service check it out and was told the unit was obsolete, parts to fix it are not available and it would cost me $2500-3000 to fix. Based on that great news we let it go. I was having trouble with my old gas fireplace for a while. Finally decided to call Amazing Flame to come give it a look. Russ arrived and after some diagnostics talked me through the current state and what he recommended to fix the issue. He really took time to explain what was going on. While installing a new pilot assembly he noticed that there was a small gas leak at the main connection (my Father will appreciate this as I thought he was nuts when he told me he thought he smelled gas). Russ spent an hour fixing the leak (it was tough to reach) before completing the new pilot install . Fireplace is now working and looking great. Amazing Flame deserves all five stars! I have been using them for many years and their service is phenomenal as previously stated in other reviews. They service my gas fireplace annually to make sure that it is running properly, double-checking everything, and cleaning it as well. Russ is extremely professional, pleasant and knowledgeable. Their customer service is great and I have never had any issue with them at all. As others have stated, it is really great to find a company with great customer service that also does a GREAT job! I had to call them once because my pilot light went out and Russ walked me through getting it lit again over the phone, for which i was extremely grateful. Unfortunately through "miscommunication", this company was not able to perform the fireplace insulation repair and did not seem willing to rectify the situation at all. I was told to go with another company since they do not want to work under any hard feelings. What is confusing is that I was told that they did not have a certain type of scaffolding and that I would have to supply said equipment. Instead of renting the equipment for $50 (I checked with Rental's Unlimited), I would have to either buy it or absorb some of the cost of they bought it. The lady on the phone did not want to even try to work through this with me. She flat told me to contact another company. HORRIBLE customer service. I wasn't mad before. Now I'm so disappointed and feeling as we are nothing to them so they clearly don't need to have anyone's business. I have never written a review before on Yelp so that should tell you how upset this company has made me. Sorry guys - I had high hopes and a positive attitude until I was told to buy my own equipment. I'm sorry the inconvenience of needing a 3 foot taller scaffold was too much to even try to work it out with me and you told me to go elsewhere instead. Update 5/23/16 - I just saw the post from the company. I NEVER called anyone an idiot and would never! I take HUGE offense to you slandering me. I called and yes, I was upset because I found out that if I supplied the scaffolding to you, I would be liable for if your crew fell off of MY SCAFFOLDING. My father is a contractor and he advised me that this was not something I wanted to do. I tried to explain this but now am accused of being upset and calling people idiots. I would like the owner of the company to call me and do anything because I am not an unreasonable person, however, the "nice lady" on the phone is making things up now and suggested I call someone else when I told her I was told I'd have to get scaffolding (of which I was trying to explain but she did not want to listen). Requested services over the holidays, and we're told we can be serviced by January 19. When we told them that was too late, they worked with us to get someone to our house by January 2. They arrived at the time appointed, and David worked extremely professionally for the next hour or so. They solved the problem, cleaned up after their work, and charged what they said they would. This could not be any more painless for us, and David went out of his way to give service advise, plus "what to do" in case any changes are observed beyond normal function. I wish there was a way to give a "plus" to the rating to give a 5+ rating. My experience with this company is what you wish all interactions with service companies would be. The person who answered the phone when I first called was knowledgable, efficient, and nice. All follow up confirmation phone calls occurred as stated, and therefore expected. I was provided a 30 minute window for when the technician would be here. Not 6 hours, not 4 hours, 30 minutes! I don't know if Amazing Flame always does this or if it was because I was the first appointment of the day, but it was so great. The technician, Scott Wheaton, was fantastic. So knowledgable, methodical, clean, and nice. And best of all, he fixed the problem. (I used a different company first, and they did not fix the problem.) My fireplace is working beautifully and my house is cleaner than when started. Not kidding. Scott vacuumed and cleaned everything in and around the fireplace, not just what he worked on. read more

Everything from booking my service to the actual service call went very smoothly. They are very honest and realistic about their availability, which I find to be very respectful to me and my time. I got an appointment for a day that was convenient to me, and was provided with a 2-hour window of when the tech would arrive. I received a confirmation/reminder call the day before my appointment, and the tech called when he was enroute to let me know he'd be at my house w/I 15 minutes. He arrived exactly when he said he would, which was well within the original 2-hour window I was given. He was very polite, seemed very knowledgeable, repaired my gas fireplace efficiently AND cleaned it. He also ensured he left everything around the area where he was working very clean and tidy. My husband and I used Amazing Flame when the pilot light went out in our gas fireplace. The gentleman that came to preform the service showed up 15 minutes before the stated window, which pleased me as I dislike when companies give a window of time that they will arrive and end up showing up at the very last minute or later. The gentleman was extremely professional. He took precautions to make sure that his work area was covered so not to get our floors dirty. He also took the time to explain the details of our fireplace to me. These explanations were extremely helpful, considering that I have always been weary of fireplaces in general. I was updated every few minutes in regards to what he was doing, and I really appreciated this. In less than 45 minutes, the gentleman had our gas fireplace cleaned and running efficiently. I feel less apprehensive about using the unit now. I will definitely use Amazing Flame again when I need my fireplace serviced. The only reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was for he price. I was hoping that the service would cost me no more than $150. I didn't get any sort of a quote when I made the appointment though so I didn't know what to expect.
