The shelves are barely stocked, no matter when you shop. Help is non existent...it seems this store main priority is Pick up / delivery orders... You ask them a question and they get annoyed like your asking for a dollar. Produce is poor quality or out of stock. Cashiers ?? Crickets. Expect to do self check out. Customer Service dept ... will make you wait... they are too busy scanning and doing online orders.. I know not all stores are created equal. Guess I got spoiled by the newer location in White Oak Town Center that I frequent at least once a week as it's much closer to me. Sadly I can't say I was impressed enough that I'd ever return. The guy by the door was very pleasant and greeted everyone! The other employees weren't giving that same energy. I found some of the produce wasn't the freshest so I didn't bother. They were completely out of bananas. Oh well. I found a few items and I left. This review is coming from a member mom/wife who shops at multiple stores to reduce the cost of her monthly grocery expenses. lol The store overall is pretty. Very neat and new and organized. I love the vibes in here. The prices on the other hand? Not a vibe. The produce and pretty much everything in there is more expensive than their competitors. Just to have an electronic cart and a quick pay to go feature is not worth the expense. This is just my Opinion. The staff did a great job with stocking and asking me if I needed help. I had to return an Amazon item (no bag, box or label needed) and decided to check out the Amazon Fresh. On the TV above Customer Service, there was a coupon for $25 off your first order of $50 as an Amazon Prime member. I scanned it and successfully added it to my Amazon account. See the Tips at the bottom for more info on how to Return items. The store is smaller with the aisles more narrow than normal. With the people shopping for others with their big carts and restockers, it took some maneuvers to get down the aisles. The produce looked fresh enough and shelves were stocked on a Thursday evening at 5:30 pm. On Jan 22, I picked up on sale eggs with a sell by date of Jan 29 and regular price guacamole with Feb 8. I look at dates for the first and items farther back, and it seemed that those were the longest dates I could get, so sell by dates seemed to allow less time than some other stores. I picked up mostly items from the shelves that I tried to find on sale. I noticed a smaller selection of brands in the toilet paper and other areas. Example of price differences: Idahoan instant mashed potatoes 4 oz - $1.00 at Amazon Fresh; $1.89 Giant; $1.27 Walmart. 8 oz for $2.50 Amazon Fresh, $3.69 Giant, $2.82 Walmart - yes, it was .50 cheaper to buy two 4 oz bags at Amazon Fresh. With it being a small store, the long line for self check-out with the staffed checkout line was one. I almost walked out and left my cart due the number of people in line and needing to be somewhere else in 15 minutes, but most seemed to migrate to self checkout, and another staffed checkout line was opened, so I was able to buy my groceries in time. For my three bags of groceries, it came to about $75, but I got $11 off - so $64 which was about $20 - $30 less than when I buy three bags of groceries at Giant. I entered my phone number which got me the sale price but I was NOT able to get the $25 off the $50 first order, since I didn't have time to download, install, and login into the Amazon app at checkout. I didn't have my Amazon card with me, I thought there would be some QR wallet code within the Amazon website somewhere but NO. Tips: 1. Install and login to the Amazon app BEFORE you come. 2. If it is your first time shopping, go to Customer Service and wait and see if there is a coupon on the TV screen that you can take a picture of for additional savings. 3. You can look up the store and see the in-store deals. 4. Bring your Amazon credit card just in case. 5. Amazon Prime members, get $10 off their first Amazon Fresh store purchase of $50+. After that, they get $10 off every monthly on a $100+ purchase only in the stores. YOu need to clip the virtual coupon on the Amazon Fresh site, and it expires. 6. When you enter, the Return area is at Customer Service to the right. It can get crowded with people coming to get their groceries and carts getting wheeled out while you are standing in the line. There is a self serve kiosk where you scan your return QR code against the small screen below. I wasn't able to get it to scan and got help. A label prints from below. If you don't have a bag, there are bags to put your item in then affix the label. A large mailbox style drawer opens to put your package inside, then locks after you close it. Overall, the produce and shelves were stocked fine for me to pick up the staples I wanted and better prices than other grocery stores. Dodging around the big carts with the shoppers who were shopping for others and other shoppers even not crowded made it less enjoyable but for the savings on staples, I might come back periodically and even try the Dash cart next time. read more

this is such a convenient life saver! i wish i had one of these near where i live! i've ordered amazon fresh online, but never walked into a brick and mortar storefront. besides having everything from produce to dry bulk goods to dairy, it was also about a half mile walk from my parents' place! i went here a couple of times when i was home in october. i bought basic things like water, candy, protein bars, protein shakes. i didn't need it at the time, but did notice the lovely salad bar and hot deli where i could pick from an array of comfort foods like pasta, caesar salad, rice, veggies and more. the prices are excellent...i have to remember that cost of living in suburban maryland is cheaper than where i live in the bay area, california, but amazon fresh is even a little more cost saving than the rest of the md stores. quick, fast and friendly service, i appreciated the employees who helped us find basic goods, point us to the restrooms, and helped us check out. the location is also great, for those who can't get here on foot, this is just off 270 & shady grove with plenty of parking just outside. read more

I've been here several times and I've really tried to like this place as the idea of "what if Whole Foods but cheaper" seemed great but Amazon Fresh, at least this Shady Grove location is not living up to expectations. First the positives. 1) staff are great. They're always smiling, very helpful 2) great place to do Amazon order returns or pickup. The process is super easy and the return line quick. 3) prices are pretty good, especially for the "Amazon Brand" items. Definitely beats out Giant, Safeway, quality seems good. Seems to compete with Aldi and Lidl on pricing. 4) if you are an Amazon member and have the credit card it's nice getting 5% back, and self check out is a breeze. I've yet to use the self check out "Dash Carts" but based on observations they seem to work well. The bad 1) disorganized empty shelves. For a company as rich and resource heavy as Amazon this is an embarrassment and it seems to be getting worse at this location. I worked in grocery before, and the motto is never show disorganized or empty shelves if at all possible. It's not like I went end of day either - it's 2pm on a Saturday! In excusable 2) lack of variety. There really isn't much depth to the products here. It's not even competing with Giant/Safeway and barely keeping pace with Aldi and Lild on the offerings. The deli/take out/bakery section is also leaving a lot to be desired Verdict. I pick up a few things here when I need to do an Amazon.com return or item pickup. The items they do have are ok quality and good pricing. It's nice to earn that 5% cash back as a Prime member. But the store is poorly run and disorganized and they need to fix that and expand the deli/takeout section asap. read more

I usually come here to make my Amazon returns. I do like the grocery cart that you can use to ring up your own items as you shop. The only downside to the self checkout cart is that there is no space for a child to sit. It's an introverts dream. The food selection here is not the best but also not the worst. It's is brightly lit and you probably won't find a staff member if you need help. It's usually empty of customers and staff. read more

Agree with the most recent reviewer below. It is always a negative experience returning something here. The employees that operate the Amazon Returns desk are disrespectful and rude. Half the time, you're lucky if they even come up to the desk to help you. A compact grocery store. Very small isles. If you remember the old Magruders stores, narrow isles like they had. Upon entering, we used a regular cart, you will flow directly into produce. Organic options are mixed in. The produce is very fresh looking, just limited as expected. The perimeter has a good selection of meats, dairy, and other refrigerated items, including Eggs. There is one frozen isle. As expected, there are a number of Whole Foods 365 brands. It's worth checking out, especially if you are a Amazon Prime member to qualify for that lower price on many items. You won't be able to buy everything you need here. I consider this a supplemental opportunity. Found a few items that were better priced than anywhere else, though. Self checkout has 6 or 7 stations, plus regular lines with cashiers. read more

Want Amazon Pizza? This is the place to try the newest frontier of Amazon getting local grocery. Went for the opening this morning, there was a line out the door since this was the first day. This store is a reinvention from the original concept of cameras everywhere and you don't need a cash register, just pick up and go. This store has 3 checkout types. Use a dash cart that comes with a register. A self checkout line or a cashier checkout. Some fruits on sale were cheap, but my organic strawberries had a few that were spoiled but then I can chalk that down to starting issues. Moms across the road will have no worries as I like the free coffee I get at Mom's plus organic whole milk was $3 more expensive here. Organic bananas were slight cheaper than Mom's or Trader Joe's. There were a few food tasting places in the store today but I am not sure if that will continue when I visit next. Saw many Amazon branded food items. I used my Amazon app on the phone to checkout and got 5% off plus the 5 points to my card. Amazon excels at service and that showed today in the store with the energy and the helpfulness. With MoMs, Trader Joe's, Aldi, Safeway and Giant within a few miles I hope everyone one of them does well. You can also use this store for Amazon returns without packing your item back. read more

Not worth a special trip here. Unhappy with a couple of products I've purchased. You have to watch the sale by dates on packaged produce -some of them only have a few days. You have to dig all the way in the back for ones that have a longer use by date. The green beans I purchased were well past their prime & had to be tossed. I also purchased a 12 oz. Pkg of Cod. THE PACKAGE DIDNT DISCLOSE IT WAS PREVIOUSLY FROZEN! It was sold in the fresh fish case. Upon opening the package, I found the fish to be very poor quality. It had been thawed and frozen a couple of times. It was mushy from poor manufacturer/store handling of being thawed & re-frozen more than once and upon closer inspection, I found that back of the pkg stated THE COD WAS FROM CHINA! I'm not eating anything from China! I threw the whole thing in the trash. I don't like that you have to carefully watch what you buy here. I also found that prices were higher than most stores for same items. Example: $1.49 for a cucumber is more than double the cost. Hot bar food at 4p.m. looked old, dried out & unappetizing. This store is such a dud. I was expecting so much more. I don't think I'll shop here very often and don't recommend it. read more

This is a hard grocery store to review because the experience is inconsistent. Sometimes you go, and the shelves and product section look ransacked and empty. Other times, you'll go and it is freshly stocked. I still usually go every weekend because of its convenient location and good prices. I usually go to this store to shop and return items very frequently. The personnel at this store is very rude, disrespectful and unprofessional. Sometimes I say hello or ask questions and they don't answer me! In one occasion I returned one dress and one of the employees took the dress and she was very happy and talking very loud to the others coworkers. And she left from the desk. One week after Amazon sent me a message saying that they never received the dress. This place sent me to talk with costumer service online by my phone. Of the 6 self service checkout registers, 3 were not working this afternoon. This store has been open...what?? 3 months?? The one I used, would not register any Prime member prices, so the 2/$4 Coke products showed up at $3.19 each, and the sale rack bullion cubes which were marked $.50 rang up at $1.89 each. Their customer service is very poor. Especially for older customers. My mother went to this establishment and they sent her to self check out with a cart full of items. Scanning is easy but when you have to enter the produce 1 by 1 it became difficult. When she asked for help an employee said to her "she was training and she needed to go to self checkout" She never once came to her aide so she had to leave all her produce behind. Really want sure what to expect after all the hype and the "will we or won't we" get the Amazon Fresh at this location. Well, it's a grocery store that has just stepped up the self check out game. It's super easy to use their dash cart and just walk out. A friendly employee helped me get set up soon as I walked in. There were Amazon Prime sale prices, similar to any grocery store rewards program. Produce looked a bit picked over, honey crisp apples looked sad. Prepared food selection was good. Grabbed some hot & ready cheese curds that were delicious and a ready to bake pepperoni pizza that was pretty good. Aisles seemed pretty narrow for those huge dash carts, have to carefully maneuver to pass one. Amazon return kiosk was what brought me in to begin with and that was super easy to use & convenient. I'll probably go back again, but it won't become my go-to place for groceries. read more

I didn't use the Smart Carts, but it's awesome those are available for customers. Amazon Fresh in Gaithersburg, MD opened today Thursday, August 8, 2024. Amazon Fresh has both national brands and Amazon's proprietary labels like 365, Fresh, Aplenty, etc. They have a good selection of fresh produce, deli, and breads baked on premises. Their prices are typically low and competitive with other mid-priced supermarket chains in the MD area. You can return Amazon merchandise. I have had good experiences with Amazon Fresh products, and they have occasional discounts and promotions. I particularly like the Aplenty Indian (Hindi) inspired frozen individual meals, and they carry Niman Ranch fresh pork products, which I love. The big issue with Amazon Fresh stores is that they have a reasonable number of employees on the floor, but they are so busy fulfilling delivery orders that they don't have time (or training) to keep shelves stocked. I hope that this new Amazon Fresh store will improve on this. read more

This Amazon Fresh store was great when it first opened. However, it has gone downhill in the last few months. The produce shelves are empty and not stocked, or the products are not fresh. I also frequent this location to return my Amazon purchases. The customer service line is always long and the customer service counter is understaffed or overwhelmed. There have been multiple times when a staff member has been packing/organizing orders in the back and is unable to help process returns. Customers often use the kiosk machine for returns, however, I notice people have issues with the scanner and there is no one to help, causing frustration and an even longer line for returns. read more

I have been waiting for ages for this place to open! As another person mentioned, you have the option to use a smart cart or typical shopping carts to carry your items. As soon as I entered an employee introduced me to the smart cart and gave me a brief intro on how to use it, scan items, weigh items, and remove items with ease. Luckily I had my Amazon app open to the barcode to log me in quickly. With the cart you can just walk down a specific check out area and everything gets totaled up and you just hit accept after reviewing if the smart scan system was accurate. On another note, there were plenty of items to check out while navigating the store. Their premade food options were pretty neat too. An array of items of hot foods, soups, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, and sushi. Fortunately, the hot bar and pizza had some discounts with my membership! The fried chicken was season well, but mot as much meat on the drum sticks. BBQ chicken pizza slice had a crispy bottom, good flavor, and a good amount of protein. This store started out with promise, but over time it seems that the morale of staff has deteriorated and the trend continues. There appears to be high turnover among the staff and many of those that are there by and large have a sullen attitude and behave as if customers don't deserve their help. For example, some staff members who handle Amazon returns tend to drag their feet even when performing the simple tasks of taking in the merchandise and scanning them. Moreover, twice a cashier has refused to help us bag the little remainder of our groceries while we were busy packing the bulk of our purchases ourselves, even though it's their job to bag the groceries. Overall, we are bewildered by how this store can stand out so much among all the supermarkets that we have visited in terms of consistently delivering an unpleasant experience. read more

The employees at the service desk on 7/12/25 were terrible and inappropriate. A.Epps and the girl with the orange/copper hair were both rude to customers and making inappropriate comments about other customers. Muttering under your breath but still audible to others is poor customer service. Both of these individuals displayed poor attitudes, especially for working in a customer facing service role. I witnessed twice where each were approached by a customer asking for assistance and both times they each refused and when walking away muttered explitives about the customer. read more

Glad they opened this location. There is plenty of parking and it's usually not too busy during the weekdays. The store is always clean, staff are friendly, and you can bring your Amazon returns and get a coupon to shop. They also have daily deals for prepped meals to go that are affordable and tasty. Online ordering is a bit scammy! When ordering delivery from the Amazon app, your checkout Price says one thing but your credit card is charged another higher amount. This is a disclosed on the checkout page AFTER you press the order button. I felt this was a bait and switch scam, especially if you forget to check your credit card statements or go back to see if the amount was appropriately charged. When I called customer service about this they told me that it's their policy to overcharge for some level of variability. I understand if you have items that are weighed but pre-packaged items should not have this extra charge tacked on and very importantly not being disclosed on your final list of charges before submitting your order. I only found out because my credit card notified me of a charge amount that was very different than what I had authorized through the Amazon app. Will not be going through this process again, especially with the rude customer service that was rendered.
