I had to purchase some greens that I could only get at a grocery store like this, so I went with a friend. The place stayed busy on the weekend. I only purchased a few items. Some were good, others were just okay. Here is what I got: CHINESE BROCCOLI - some were long, and others seemed like they were already cut short. I don't know if that is how it is normally sold. Goya PLANTAIN CHIPS - the chips were light overall, but slightly salty. I still enjoyed it. 80% COCONUT WATER WITH PULP - I enjoyed this, but I am not sure I would get it again. I couldn't find a brand on the can and some of the wording said to chill before drinking, but yet it was stocked on a shelf. I may just stick to a brand I know, next time. I also got another juice - Mogu Mogu LYCHEE JUICE with bits of the fruit in the drink, but found that the lychee bits were going down my throat quicker than I had a chance to eat them (not sure I'll get that again even though I enjoyed the drink). BUTTER CREAM BREAD - even though I liked this, it was not as soft. I got one or two other items, but I'll probably get them elsewhere next time due to the high price. Overall, I saw so many flavors and varieties of things. The place stayed busy. I would probably go back again, but with the same friend, and maybe pay more attention to details. Going downhill. Carts are old and rusty. Store is cramped. No real hot food option (quality and variety both declining). Seafood section smelled fishy (compared to 99 Ranch and Whole Foods). The upside is they stock fresh kumquat, that's a rare find. The prepared food section: They have only one pot of tofu stew believe it or not (it's the mainstay of Korean food). As other H Mart locations, they have snack items, candies, produce, specialty items, houseware goods, as well as a bakery section in the back. Check-out lines were pretty efficient, and the staff were helpful in locating items. One thing of note was that they did have a bakery on the premise, a well as some prepared foods to go; no food court area, though. We were able to pick up some items that were on sale, being able to stock up on necessities! The store is a bit smaller, but they had a good selection. So, I shop at H-Mart often enough (not necessarily weekly or anything) but once every month or so. I enjoy their produce selection in particular because it's typically quite fresh and decently priced in comparison to any other grocer. I find that the produce here is better quality than some other stores I typically get the rest of my groceries at (Giant, for example). Some items are certainly overpriced that you can get much cheaper at other stores (such as some juices). On the most recent trip a couple of days ago, we decided to get some 'fresh' fish (now, this fish was already filleted and packaged), and upon getting it home, it was not really as fresh as we would have thought (won't make that mistake again). The cashiers are typically friendly and helpful, although I don't usually need any assistance while shopping, so I've never really spoken to the employees on the floor. The store itself is pretty well organized and stocked, so no complaints there. Overall, mostly come here for the produce and for my restocks of random Asian foods/items that I enjoy. Random note: you can't take the grocery carts into the parking lot, so don't plan to get so much stuff that you can't carry it to your car :) read more

When I miss cooking Asian food, I visit Hmart! Hamrt in Maryland (both the Wheaton and the Gaithersburg location) are not as luxurious and large compared to the Hmarts I have in California, but I am glad to be able to get some Asian produce and spices in the DMV area. Upon arrival, they had plenty of parking in front of the store but the parking lot structure was not quite clean (there was trash on the ground). For COVID-19 precautions, they have gloves and hand sanitizer at the door for customers to use it as desired. When I went back to the seafood section, they had fish splayed out over some ice and live seafood. However, some of the seafood portions were a little concerning since some of the creatures looked immobile/dead at the bottom of the tank even though they should be alive, so I wish that could be better regulated since seafood, if offered as fresh, should be fresh! My go-to section is the pre-marinated korean bbq beef, pork, and chicken. They're so easy to grill up, wrap with some vegetables/rice noodles, and roll together using rice paper to make myself a tasty and quick Vietnamese spring roll. In addition, they also have a hot food session if you just want to grab a quick lunch or dinner. The prices were overall alright, and I am beyond happy to see an Asian grocery store, but I wish they work a little on their cleanliness. read more

I've been to both this Hmart and the one up and Frederick and I prefer this one. It it bright and clean and has a great selection of culturally diverse foods. My daughter was mainly looking for different types of noodles and soup options and we were able to find many that matched her needs. But they also have a lot of great produce, take out food, frozen options, fresh fish, etc. Looking forward to going back and exploring more this store has to offer. read more

I went there yesterday before work & I frequent here a LOT because of that. Yesterday I purchased toothpaste. I didn't need a bag, since I had my purse. Transaction was normal. Cashier walked away when she was done. FOR SOME REASON, one woman started yelling at me about if I paid or not. I don't know if it was discrimination because I'm visibly Muslim *before* I'm visibly Latina like her or what. I asked her if she wanted to see the receipt, because why would I steal something AT THE REGISTER? Where is the common sense? If a customer can't pay for something, wouldn't the protocol be for the cashier to pick it up and remove it before walking away? She looked speechless when I asked if she wanted to see the receipt, so I went up to her and showed her. She apologized multiple times, but I don't care. I will never be back. Went to Hmart to purchase some Korean ribs to make Korean galbi. Purchased 3 packs. All in all it looked like a good quality meat, the price was costly but I thought to myself, good quality of meat. Came home opened the package and was pretty disappointed. The front layer of the meat was good, but the bottom layer was just all bones with more fat than meat. Very deceiving. All three packages were packed the same way. By the time I tried to trim most of the fat, not much of meat was left. Wow... pretty shocked at how Hmart is so calculating, and packaging their meat while charging their customers good amount of cash. I will never buy meat from Hmart again! read more

An alright Korean grocery store! Nice selection of food items - Ramen, Rice, Side dishes, Fried Chicken, a variety of fruits and veggies. They also have seafood, sushi, fish and others. Enjoy going to this store whenever we are around the area. Pretty decent prices to get groceries at. Easy to get around and find the items. A lot of drinks, snacks, kitchen items and beauty products can be found as well. Like going to this store as they have many of the things that I need and want at a Korean store. read more

HMART is perfect if you enjoy international foods. My husband is Caribbean and he loves certain foods that are not available in local chain markets. I was able to purchase a large bag of jasmine rice for a great price amongst other items. The store is very well stocked and there is ample parking. There's a fresh fish counter to purchase fish and you can get it scaled and cut to your preference. Each aisle is broken down into international groups to find items easily. They have a fresh vegetable and fruit section and I prefer their fresh vegetables over other markets. read more

So I'm Korean (part) and looking for Hmart's with a lot of Korean stuff, especially freshly prepared Kim Bap. This one had it but they had run out in the afternoon. Not many food choices/no restaurants, etc. Just average in terms of selection and layout but was in the area. My favorite Hmarts are in Frederick (great restaurant selections) and in Fairfax VA (brand new). Oh my gosh the prices are so much higher now b/c of inflation. This place has good products but not its staff. I would like to file a formal complaint of discrimination on this supermarket's staff for their unprofessional and biased behaviors towards certain customer. The staff at the seafood section were skipping me and other few customers in the same ethnicity group, while taking unreasonable demand at personnel that speaks their own language. When I asked why they are giving me dead products from the live tanks the staff ignored me; when I asked for the manager he had a very condescending attitude and continue to ignoring me while arguing in non English language. It was pleasant to shop here until a recent change of staffing. It is a shame to have unprofessional staff to dilute the great qualities of its reputation and I do demand an answer for the rude behaviors of these personnel. read more

This is a review for the food court, run single handedly by a very sweet korean lady. I usually get the fried chicken to go. The chicken is always so good even though they are pink inside. The chicken was cooked but it's clear they're frozen chicken, i meant it's really cheap and really delicious so just ignore the pink-- i've never gotten sick from it lol. My favorite would have to be the TOFU soup. They don't have the tofu soup at the time of our visit but she willingly offered to make it and oh my, it was so delicious. It was like homemade korean food. I was so pleasantly surprised because I've eaten at the Germantown Lotte (famous for their food court) but I kind of prefer this H-mart lady's food. All her urensils were very clean, which is a big deal for me esp eating at an unconventional place. It was such a great experience, I definitely okan to come back! read more

This is seriously such a great H Mart. Though not as glamorous or new as some of the other ones I have been to in New Jersey or even in Elliott City, not only does this location have literally everything you need and more, but it's immaculately clean. The place is HUGE, the produce is always fresh, they have the newest, latest and greatest snacks from Korea and I especially love the selection of meat and fish at this particular location. They even have an abundance of portable grills, pots (imported from Korea), and bowls/plates/rice cookers, even aprons, slippers and pillows that I normally don't see at other korean grocery stores. Even though the Wheaten H Mart is closer to me, I choose to come to the Gaithersburg branch most of the time to stock up because I feel like their products are fresher and more up to date. Plus, the store is SUPER bright and white, making it a fun and happy shopping experience. They are always stocked, even amidst the whole coronavirus pandemic - toilet paper galore and lots of rice to keep you satiated. I like how well laid out the store is as well. Produce on the outside, fresh korean food like kimchi and side dishes on the other side of the store. The middle aisles are well labeled (my personal favorite being the ramen and snack sections). Overall, very pleasant shopping experience. Ps. They have put gloves for customers to wear while shopping right at the door due to COVID-19 and created lines to respect the social distancing / 6ft rule. Got the tonkatsu and spicy chicken bokumtang which were both delicious so had to give it full 5/5 because of the amazing food at the food court. Order your food then go shop around and by the time you come back it is sitting there around waiting for you ! Apparently it's under new management so the food is not what it was in the past. Some of the most authentic and best korean food I've had in a while. Hard to believe it is located inside of an hmart. The prices are also reasonable and much cheaper then the prices at a korean restaurant but the quality is still the same if not better than a restaurant. I think they all opened 7 days a week so it makes super convenient. Can't wait to go back and try everything on the menu! read more

I usually enjoy a nice, relatively cheap, delicious Korean meal at random Korean supermarkets. I like the one in Germantown by pho house, I like the one in aspen hill, and the one oom muddy branch is okay too, so I took a chance with the one here on lost knife. Man, what a mistake! As soon as I walked up to the "food court", which is really no more than just one restaurant, I had a feeling this was going to be bad. But, since I'm already here, I might as well give them a chance. Oh, gut, I shall always listen to thee from now on!! So we ordered the galbi tang and original ramen. The guy who took our order, presumably the owner, seemed like we were bothering him and had a rather forced demeanor. We paid a total of about $17 for our meal. Pros: - Meal came out fairly quick. - Rice was good. - He had free water and chopsticks! Cons: - Galbi tang tasted like it was literally boiled water with some pieces of beef, egg, and some vegetables thrown in. Not like it was stewed or simmered in a broth. I don't know about you, but one of the reasons why I get galbi tang is for the incredible broth, not a pot of boiling water. - Beef in galbi tang was pretty tough. I like my galbi to be a bit more tender. - Ramen tasted like it was from a store-bought packet, add in some vegetables and an egg, and we have a $4 mark up. Ughh! - Our side dishes were in tiny portions and variety. I remember getting about 5 different side dishes at the aspen hill one, here, I got 3 super bland ones, and no Kim chi even!! - The setting is small and ghetto looking, nothing like the other Korean supermarkets. I was hit with a super fishy smell as soon as I walked in and the store itself isn't very clean. I'd stay away from the prepared food cafe. The food just doesn't taste good. The produce is cheap and not expired/rotting though and that's a good thing. That is really the only reason why I gave as many as 2 stars. I actually like this H Mart location. Parking is never a big pain, and the location is fairly big - almost as big as the one in falls church ( which was a usual haunt when I lived back there). They stock every Sunday from what I gather, so I find those to be the best days to visit this place. Prices are low and make me very happy! There are times when I feel their quality contort isn't too great.. I've seen bags of potatoes with some that have sprouted - they are that old lol! But if you spend the time to pick out the stuff you want, you definitely will be saving yourself a lot of money! A good selection of whole fish, and other sea food, and oh yes - they have a full dedicated aisle for Indian stuff..! What this means is that I get my most of my whimsy indian masala needs fulfilled without a trek to the Indian store .. Win win! Looking for hard to find Asian or even Latino species and goods? This is your answer to pretty much most of your fancy food needs - from taro mochi to sinister looking Mexican sounding candy lol ( I absolutely love trying one new thing every time I come here - word of advice, stay AWAY from the durian flavored wafers, to me they smell nasty! ) Also, be a sport and try the Choco pies here or the super yummy coconut water!, you will not be disappointed! I love this place. I have never lived anywhere near close to a Korean supermarket. That is an automatic awesome 10 points for being a Korean SUPERmarket!! So I was absolutely thrilled to see this! The prices are always awesome. You really can't buy anything "asian" at Giant or Safeway, it costs entirely too much money. The produce section is always abundant and I have never gotten bad/rotten veggies or fruit. I have gotten quite a bit of meat and fish there and also never been sick. I appreciate the fact that for an asian mart, it does NOT smell like a fish market! They keep it nice and clean. Their meat and seafood selection is also abundant and a lot of variety! It's great! They have a pretty nice accessory section it's really cute! Lot's of Pucca/hamtaro/Hello Kitty!!! and other cute characters, they carry hair stuff like clips too, cell phone stuff. They also have a larger section with kitchen supplies/appliances as well as other collectibles. They have a video section, but I haven't looked at that section. The store is in a pretty large hispanic section, so there are quite a bit goya products around. I had to buy Sprite/Pepsi/Coke in a bottle, not sure why they sell those in bottles there, but it's pretty awesome. I like how they have a small Le Matin De Paris section with fresh baked buns and breads!! My absolute favorite is the Buttercream bun. Mmm soo yummy!!! Thing I don't like is that you have to pay for that stuff right there, you can't pay for it with everything else. They also have a small cafeteria with about 10 different dishes to choose from, I have yet to try anything hot though. I do love their ready to eat KimBap and Korean chicken wings!! I don't know what it is about the sauce they choose, but it's really yummy. I have gotten kimchi, radish and other banchan sides there, everything tastes really yummy. This is my favorite H-Mart in Montgomery County. Service is much better here than other area locations and they do a great job at keeping everything stocked throughout the day. I've come at many different times and usually don't have a problem finding what I need. I rarely eat meat so I shop here for produce only; their prices are so reasonable and the fruit and veggies stay fresh much longer than some of the conventional produce I've bought elsewhere. I try to buy local & organic during summer months, but whatever I can't get locally I come here for. They've got a VIP club so just visit the customer service counter for an application. This review is strictly for the pre-made food section on the left side of the market when you walk in. My office is very close to Hmart, so I sometimes go there to pick up lunch to bring back to work when I feel like having Korean food. They have kimbab, rice cakes, pig feet, korean pancakes, etc. that is pre-made, pre-packaged and ready to eat. I picked up a package of kimbab today for lunch for under $5 (see picture). It was very tasty! The only reason I'm giving 3 stars is because there really isn't a place to sit and eat on site. I think there's 1 or 2 small tables, but I doubt you'd want to eat there. Lotte in Germantown has a much better eatery if you want to eat on site. read more

I love that I can find all my asian ingredients in one place. They carry Korean Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai foods all under the same roof. They also have a wide assortment of Spanish goods including an on site Salvadorian bakery. I didn't give them 5 stats because they need to work on cleanliness and better customer service. read more

Supermarkets are tough to rate. Sometimes, you have some bad luck and get some spoiled produce and vow Never to Go Again. That's what happened here with one of our friends... although I can say that I've had up and down experiences at Lotte and Q-Mart as well. I enjoy going to H-Mart on the weekends when they give out free samples of different Korean items (instant noodles, dumplings, vinegar drinks, etc.) Off peak hours, it's nice to go shopping when there are less people. Of the three Korean supermarkets, they tend to be more technologically advanced. They send out coupon books... for things that are sold out when you get there and sorry no rain checks. Is that called bait and switch? Well at least you received some nice grocery pictures in the mail. They also have a loyalty card program. Let's see... Personal bias, but I think the selection, turnover and prices tend to be better here (for fruits and vegetables). Then again, I don't do a good job of looking closely at produce prices. read more

I have been to multiple Hmarts in my lifetime, particularly the ones in New York. This Hmart at this location is spacious. Good meat, good fish, excellent veggies and fruits and most of all, excellent prices! Even in the times of social distancing, this Hmart has been a lifesaver for groceries and random things to buy for quarantine! Also, they have gloves for shoppers to use at the entrance and obviously a place to dispose them after you're done shopping. Workers are nice and helpful. Several decades ago, you would have never seen a large grocer competitor that wasn't "mainstream". I love how in this day and age that we can have the variety of places to do your basic shopping. While they stock a lot of ethnic foods, such as Latin and Asian (Korean particularly), they do stock your usual basics. What I like best about H Mart is that it is bright, clean, and different...It's just interesting to see new things. I didn't buy much while I was there but I did enjoy the visit, and would not hesitate to come back to this location. read more

If you like to be belittled by grocery store staff when asking a question, this is the place for you. I waited an exorbitantly long time at the fish section and when I asked a question when it was finally my turn, the employee behind the counter mockingly repeated my question to another employee and then gave me a mocking response. The belittling continued until I walked away without purchasing anything because I was fed up. Given the horrible customer service and that the selection of items has deteriorated considerably at this location recently (which coincidently my mother and mother-in-law each separately remarked on in comparison to other H-Mart locations), I won't be going to this location anymore. There is a Lotte Plaza Market close by as well as plenty of other H-Mart locations so don't think this should be a very difficult decision. read more
