Inside its cramp but I come here to get my staples that I can only find in a Latino market at a good price. My family loves the fresh concha buns and pastries. They have a small hot bar. If your lucky they have delicious Columbian empanadas. They sell tamales and soups. Also, in the health and beauty aisles, they carry Dominican hair products that definitely help with spilt ends and growth. I appreciate the new location but it still feels too small. The store is extremely packed. If you bring a backpack, be ready to leave it at the entrance, next to the security guard. On weekends they have food for purchase outside, you can also purchase ready to eat meals inside. The prices for eggs were ridiculous $15! I went to Costco and got the same for $8. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because I can get my frozen Latin products here as well as some dry goods and canned food. read more

Unfortunately the staff does not speak English so it is difficult to communicate. I bought short ribs that spoiled rather quickly. They would not refund my money. There was no manager to speak to. The non English speaking staff were rude and pretty much accusing me of lying. I was a loyal customer. In this Country the Customer is usually always right. When I called them, they just put me on hold only to disconnect my call after that, I did several calls when finally I was off from work, and I went to this place the only person who can fix my refund the store manager Marisol was extremely busy, her assistant was calling her on the phone, basically she told me she was busy! So mine time it wasn't important to them. Make an appointment with the Maryland gobernador is an easy task compared to having a minute face to face with Marisol, even after showing there my receipt and my bank account statement! Let me preface this review with saying I am of Spanish heritage. I've been to the Mega in Rockville. Coming to this other location reminded me why I don't shop at the mega and prefer other supermarkets. I have family coming from out of town. So I needed to make some empanadas and pernil. That calls for some good homemade sofrito. But of course Mega is one of the few places that I know of that carries specialty peppers and culantro (not cilantro). Which are needed to make authentic Puerto Rican sofrito. So I walk into this Gaithersburg location. First thing off the bat is a horrific stench. I have no idea what the smell was. I looked around and everything looked clean. It was so potent that it almost made me vomit. I had to literally hold my breath just long enough so I can make it to the produce section. And long enough to find the peppers and culantro that I needed. That was only the first battle!! The second factor was how on earth am I reaching such items?? There was massive amounts of people. It's like the entire Spanish community has nothing better to do but be at the MEGA at the same time. It's like elbow to elbow walking down the isles. It almost reminded me of being in a NYC train that's jammed packed at 6am and you got someone's armpit in your face. I finally made it to the culantro after dodging several carts in the small aisles and people jammed packed everywhere. Not to mention they have to bring all these kids that have to be running around aimlessly. Anyway, now I need to reach the freezer section to find the Goya discos to make empanadas. That was another adventure in itself. Once you make it out alive from the produce section you must try to find your way past the butcher line that's ridiculously long. And again with more people and carts in a small corridor. Total insanity. I was having major anxiety by this point!!! All I could feel/fear was Covid waiting to happen as I continued to hold my breath. Finally reached the Goya products. The last battle was now waiting on the super long lines. That stretch aimlessly with no real coordination in all shapes and sizes. It took about 25 minutes for this entire ordeal. Where at local Whole Foods or giant I would have been out in 5 min. I made out alive. Thank god! But never again. Also, I found their prices for general peppers like the green and red peppers super expensive by the pound in comparison to Giant, Trader Joe's or even Harris Teeter. They advertise savings but I really didn't see it to be honest. I hope I don't have to go back there anytime soon! If someone can tell me where to find culantro elsewhere will be appreciated. read more

I loved going to the back to get the cuts of meat I can't find at Whole Foods or Giant, like for carne asada or al pastor. Everything is super reasonably priced. If you are in search of Latin Foods or Latin Ingredients, this is the place for you. This is one of the biggest Latin markets I've been to in the area and one of the cleanest. I originally stumbled into this market sometime ago when I was searching for that stick to beat a pinata with; which luckily my limited Spanish vocabulary along with gesturing was able to describe to the store worker. I found it! And not only that, there was also like hundreds of pinatas hanging from the ceiling at that time too. In any event, prices are very reasonable. There is a butcher in the back of the store. And each time I've been in, the cashiers are very friendly. They are smiling and ready to help. Can't fault this store much. The cheese selection is pretty limited. I've never seen so much queso blanco in my entire life. Can't fault this store on much. Wish it had some fresh seafood.... but other than that. Pretty solid locale. I wish I knew how to cook more traditional latin cuisine, but looking forward to looking around more when I have more time. This is one busy place, even around 7:00 pm. I was going to buy some fruit, but there were so many shoppers in the produce aisle. I grabbed a Mexican coke ($1.09) and headed for the checkout. It's not the cleanest store, but it sells Latino items you can't find at the popular chain stores. Plus, it's cheaper. Do not buy the food here, when I came into the store to buy my snacks I was immediately hit with a lot of options of snacks. I ended up settling with Pringle's, Gadrade, and a sweet desert (cookie type of food I do not know the name). But I did not end up eating the items until I got home. The Gadrade was fine and also the Pringles were too but when I got to the Sweet (I have never eaten this sweet before) it tasted weird, I ended up eating a couple of them and there were two left. For the last two I look on the back and I see mold. I am beyond mad. Lazy workers. Who knows what other t foods they have neglected. read more

Came on a Sunday in the early evening and wow this place is super busy. Both the parking lot and store were jammed pack. As other Yelpers have mentioned, if you don't need a cart, opt for a basket instead. With so many people inside, maneuvering with a cart would be extremely difficult. If that wasn't enough, the aisles are pretty small. You'll find yourself saying "excuse me" several times throughout your visit. Definitely have some patience while you are here! Produce is fresh and prices are comparable to Asian markets in the area. They offer your typical meats, plus ones already seasoned/marinated for making steaks and burritos. The meat counter is in the back of the store and the line is very long. However, it moves rather quickly. They have fresh chicharron which is a huge plus for me. Aisles (I think there were three) were packed with items from various Hispanic countries. Your typical grocery store items could be found here as well, but more than likely cheaper elsewhere. Checkout lines were once again long and stretched into each aisle. Trying to stand behind individuals without a cart full of items is difficult. Cashiers are friendly, but assume you speak Spanish. read more

An amusing mercado (that's market, my fellow gringo). Most items in stock are decidedly Salvadorian or Peruvian...not really Mexican, but I believe they were playing Tejano music. We came because my Texan husband intends to torture his coworkers by bringing a Frito Pie to a pot luck, and I am in desperate need of decent tortillas. They did carry Mission Tortillas (yuck!), so I'm not sure how good the tortillas they carry are...but I'm too lazy to make them from scratch. Guys working at produce have no education, I heard them talking trash while trying to get cucumbers... my advise for the owner will be to ask the employees to have a professional attitude, respect for customers when inside the store. Please ask them watch their language, remember you guys have a paycheck because of customers. This place was funny! I can say that because I'm from Colombia and this seems how grocery stores would be in Colombia, like in the city, well an unorganized city, lol. My experience could have been because of the day I went (It was a Sunday, on Mothers Day), but apparently it's just as busy all the time. In my case, as soon as we walked in, there was a Mariachi band rockin it out and daaaaiiuuuummm was it busy. (NOTE TO SELF: If you don't need a cart don't take a cart, just adds trouble). They definitely have a lot fresh produce cheaper and all the latin spices you need, but it's so freakin crowded and disorganized that it just makes it insane!!! I love this place. They have fresh fruits and veggies all the time. The only down side is that it is always super busy . This place is packed , parking lot is full and inside you can barely walk with you shopping cart . Long line to ask for meats. But I see why it's so busy . They sell everything you could possibly need . Condiments, fresh meats, seafood,fresh cheese , cleaning supplies and more. Weekdays are less busy , everyone goes grocery shopping in the weekends. Try 1st few days of the week insted of the end of the week. Over all it's the one store where we can find everything we need in one trip. I came here looking for tamarinds for tamarind sauce. I make fresh rice paper rolls with thinly sliced jicama mango cilantro red onions lime juice garlic straw mushrooms cucumbers carrots. Dipped in peanut sauces. Chili pepper sauces. Tamarind-cilantro sauce that Cheesecake factory used to serve with their deep fried avacado eggrolls. So over the years I've started to pick up more and more. The meats and seafood are cheaper and daily fresh like H-mart. The produce dairy and stock items are great. Stuff you can only get fresh at specialty stores like this. They are always packed crowded. Could be tidier and bigger and they are improving as they become more and more sucessfulI every year. And for $25 -$50 savings a trip I don't mind putting up with a little hustle and bustle once in a while. Even our Burtonsville Giant is a nightmare to get thru on any evening after work. And I typically walk out with a $50 bill which would be $75 from H-mart and $100 from Giant. Every week that adds up. They take really good care of all their customers, employees and community in many extremely generous amazing ways. 8 locations and growing for many reasons ! Maybe I will try making Burmese tonight- 4 Noodle salad or thai green papaya salad ? ...While I am picking up my daughters coconut water, avacados, mango juice, limes (I wonder where she picked up all these eating habits !)
