No bathroom for customers to wash their hands. The pizza was reasonably good. The service was a bit weird. I ordered two 24-in pizzas to eat in the dining room and they came out in boxes. That seemed like a lot of wasted cardboard. The dining room is nice and seemed reasonably clean. But I was a little put off by the fact that a scrappy dirty guy was cleaning the windows then promptly went back to folding pizza boxes. Nowhere in between did he washes hands. I certainly don't hold it against someone for being a bit dirty while doing a cleaning job, but that same person should not be handling things that the food comes into contact with. I wouldn't leave a car outside on the curb after dark. The chance of it getting broken into is about 80%. All in all, this place rates a two on the sanitary scale. read more

Oh sure, I knew it would be just a matter of time before we weakened and scarfed down a slice or three here. After all, Jamie W and I had been busy getting familiar with the neighborhood watering holes - The Double Standard, Beeryland, Thee Stork Club. Each had its unique appeal, but what they had in common was the inevitable after effect of each visit. The munchies, a slice of greasy-good pizza. Just like an unshakable hankering for a bean burrito in the midst of a purple haze, pizza is the natural response to a somewhat tipsy binge. Indeed that was our state when we entered into what felt like a very quiet sports bar. The menu wasn't complicated, thank goodness, and we both got a $4.52 slice of Pepperoni (Photo 8). The number of pepperoni was generous as well as the gooey mozzarella. However, I have to say the pepperoni grease overwhelmed the taste with the crust rather soggy. The server was a nice, quiet guy who was kind enough to give us a complimentary slice of the Cheese Pizza (Photo 9). It was marginally better because there was no grease issue. Would we come back? Probably. It certainly satisfied the no-fuss sustenance we wanted after a couple of cocktails. One of the best pizza's I have had in a long long time. I was extremely satisfied with the pizza and I was super excited that they had beef pepperoni due to the fact I don't eat pork. All 3 pizza's were excellent and delicious. I think I liked the cheese the best, which is my test for a good pizza place in my opinion. Disappointing. We've been ordering there for 10-12 years and the quality is noticeably bad the last 3 or 4 years. Our pizza was wet and floppy. One-third baked. We had to recook it. That thin coating of cheese looked like it was sprayed on in an autobody shop. Well, it's not cool to write a bad review based on one bad choice of a pizza. So, I ordered.....The Monster Slice with 2 toppings added, Pepperoni and olives. OMG.....best kept secret! The Cheese Monster Slice is the best deal if you just want pizza! You know how it is.....you get a craving for pizza, but don't want to pay $20-30 to satisfy you needs? The Cheese Monster slice is about 11" long and shaped kinda like a heart. It's less than $8, add 2 toppings and it can still be less than $10. (Dec 2021 prices) How was it? Thick doughy crust, thick molten cheese, I added pepperoni and olives.....cut it into 4 pieces. Good deal for less than $10, if all you want is a simple pizza. Lastly, BBQ Wings, 1/2 order is 6 for $7.99. Very delicious, good flavor. Must be marinated a longtime to have such flavor. They usually charge for dips, but they gave me a ranch dressing for free. Amazona's Pizza is good pizza! Choose wisely! If you just want pizza on a budget, get the Monster Cheese Slice! Amazona's is a little bit of a hole in the wall kind of vibes. It's blended into other stores and the dark windows tainting the entrance make it hard to notice. You'd have to arch your neck back to see the sign that mentions the word pizza too. I've been to KP market across the street a dozen times and have never noticed this pizza shop across the street. But let me tell you, next time i'm at KP, i will be picking up another pizza from Amazona's. This shop is (i think) run by a family so supporting local business makes me happy. What makes me happier is the high quality pizza. The pizza here is not artisanal. It's a no fluff pizza shop where you order at the counter and can expect a pizza box with steaming hot pizza. It's not artisanal. It's traditional, classic, pizza. I tried the New York Style Corujita which had a spicy kick to it and thought it was great. The crust was not too thin but not too thick and gave the perfect bread-y texture. I also had the buffo chicken wings but I thought those were very average. Pro tip: Their website i think is hard to maneuver and see all the pizzas so i recommend you use the photo feature of yelp to grab the menu. The pictures are from 2 years ago but the prices didn't increase that much (surprisingly- in the best way possible). It's been a couple of years since we've ordered from here. The pizza's were very good and the New York style pizza is the best. The Caesar Salad was not at all appetizing. First, WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too much dressing. The salad swam in the dressing (dressing with a little salad is more like it) which ruined the whole salad. Please put the dressing on the side. Great, reliable pizza! Parking was easy went on a Sunday, there were plenty of open spaces on the street near the restaurant. I picked up a large simplicity pizza, the wait was only about 20 minutes. It's usually difficult to rip a piece of pizza from other places because they usually don't cut it all the way thru but this place is spot on with their cuts. I have a long relationship with Amazonas. When I first moved to Oakland over 10 years ago, I was set on finding a great local pizza place and Amazonas was it. I can't tell you how many times I recommended it to people, ordered it to locations/bars I was at, etc. They could do no wrong. And then something changed. I'm not sure if they changed owners, but the quality of items dropped, the cooking quality dropped, and the prices went up. I was loyal serveral times, but after talking to my other friends who loved Amazonas as well, we agreed something had changed, and not for the better. So, I sadly moved on. Honestly, I didn't each as much pizza as I did before for a few years. I moved to a different side of Oakland, and life moved on. One day, probably right after the start of the pandemic, I decided to try Amazonas again (I think I had tried again before too) and was super pleasantly surprised. The quality was back. I've been going here for over 10 years and have told so many people this is some of the best pizza in Oakland. Sadly that's what I used to think. The last few pizzas I've ordered from here have been super disappointing. My fiancé actually said last night after he bit into his first slice "wait, I thought you ordered from Amazona's?" The crust is rubbery, very sparse with toppings- it's like they don't care anymore. Oooh also- tried their chicken wings for the first time. This is a biased post because I ordered one pizza here one time, loved it, and since then order it every time I come. I randomly stumbled in one day pre-COVID with family and we ordered the cacique (pepperoni, sausage, olives, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, garlic), so now whenever we go that's what we get, just in varying sizes. This time I tried calling in to order but I guess they were busy so no answer. Instead, I ordered a 12" pie online (which comes out to about 6 good-sized slices) and I chose NY style thin crust because I was craving it. When I came in to pick it up, the staff hesitantly said "let us know how it tastes..." which was..concerning? He explained that they usually never make this particular pie in a thin crust so this was an experiment for them, they had to put a few less toppings to make it work. Well, it wasn't quite NY style thin crust, in fact the crust was actually quite soft and pillowy. And I wasn't mad at it! They gave it an honest try and it still came out really good. I started coming to this pizza joint more than five years ago. I live two blocks away and almost everyone in my building swears this place makes the best pizza.
