I found Sophia Elliss when I moved to Salt Lake City a few years ago and she is one of the most talented hairstylists I've seen. She really listens and will do exactly what you ask for, asking thoughtful follow-up questions to make sure she fully understands what you want. If you're not quite sure what you want, she also has an incredible eye and somehow seems to know what will look best. Most recently, she helped fix layers I had gotten from another stylist that just wouldn't lay right and were uneven. I regretted them immediately, but Sophia took one look and said, "No problem, I know how to fix this." Within 30 minutes I went from feeling depressed about my botched layers to loving my haircut. She's also incredibly pleasant to talk with-- uplifting, positive, and someone you genuinely look forward to seeing. I'm one of those people that waits to get my hair cut until I have so many bad hair days in a row that I can't take it anymore. I found myself in this predicament and the lady that usually does my hair was booked out several weeks. This left me with a decision-wait for her or take the chance on some place I know nothing about, but could get me in sooner. Since I only needed a trim, I opted to take the chance, and it ended up pretty good. My cut is fine, nothing spectacular. But I left with what I wanted-the dead ends cut off. She even round brushed out my curls and made my otherwise curly hair pretty straight for a few days until I washed it again. However, my experience was a little odd. The girl that cut my hair barely talked to me-I'm used to a little bit of conversation, but she kept to herself other than to clarify how I wanted my hair cut and to explain what she was doing. The facility is also a bit underwhelming. It is dated and not very aesthetically pleasing-old mismatched tile, no pictures on the walls, dirty surfaces. Part of the appeal of a salon and spa is the atmosphere and this one is bare bones. I will give it to them for the price-my cut and style was less than $50 and I was able to book an appointment within 4 days, so I didn't have to wait long. read more

Just finished my haircut with Brielle, and I love it!! It was my first time at this salon, I found it through yelp and I am so glad I took a chance on it. I just moved from California this year, so I was at a lost at where to get a haircut. Thankfully, yelp and all the reviews lead me here. I am appalled right now as customer service & communication is huge for me. I have been going to this salon for a few years now & other than being quoted a price & at check out having the price change without my knowledge, I forgave & politely assumed the good. I corrected them & still gave chances even though this in itself is unprofessional. Fast forward to today. I get a call from a gal saying Amber, the owner, decided to part ways with me due to me being "rude" to her staff. I was so confused as I have never been rude to her staff or anyone. I had to poke around to ask what it is that I did, as all I could get is that 2 stylist were in tears as they did not know how to make me happy??? My last extension experience was great from my side. At check out I just asked what the extra $60 was for & it was a random cost just thrown in without my knowledge, some hair service I never received nor did I ask for it, if anything, I being the customer, needed better communication or an apology not getting kicked out of a salon for good 6 weeks later.. just days before my hair appointment? This is appalling! Again I never raised my voice nor was I mean to anyone. If asking questions & asking hair stylists the price & asking to be charges I was quoted is enough to get banned from a place, I want to make sure I remind all my friends & family to not support this salon. Marissa has walked me through a huge transformation in just a few months. I came in thinking I knew how to ask for what I wanted, but Marissa understands her art. She got to know my hair and understood how it would curve naturally and how it would fall styled and un-styled. She really listened and read what I was wanting without me knowing how to ask for it. She really cares about her work. It turns out that I went from a short shoulder length look with highlights to truly just wanting a very short pixie cut with very little to no styling and returned to Marissa several times over in a few shorts months to get there. Amazing salon. I just moved to Utah and was on the hunt for a stylist that could give me the same ashy brown look that I always had done previously back home. Having naturally dark hair, I'm always worried that the stylist won't understand the degree of ashy-ness that asian hair requires to avoid the orange undertones. Kaylee did my toner for me and she was incredible! She took the time to listen to me, consulted with another stylist for the best formula, and gave me the prettiest ashy brown color I've ever had. I got the basic manicure and the paraffin pedicure. I made my appt at 9 am and was brought in at 1230 pm on memorial day. The parking is great, the ambiance is nice. Kelsey welcomed me in the door. She was helpful and nice. :) Jessica did my manicure and pedicure. She was fast but did not rush. She was thorough. I had a few other photos of my splotchy hair job but Yelp decided to remove them because they were "not representative of the salon". This used to be my go to salon... ****Stephanie**** was my stylist; I saw her about 5 times yet she never remembered me. This last time is the reason for my review (photos included). I came in for a touch up, my roots had grown out. That night when I got home I noticed that I still had a "fishbowl"a-top my head, meaning that my natural color was still apparent.... Not as obvious as it was when I came in but still noticeable. There were some spots of copper/orange (every blondes worst nightmare) and I feel like she only paid attention to the very front because I had my kid take a photo of the back of my hair and wow.... Hideous. I should have asked for a mirror to see the back before I left. I don't think she cared about getting my hair looking the best and it was a waste of $$$ because I went to another salon two weeks later to fix it. I have never been treated so poorly by a salon. They are a snobby place. If you come back within the same week you had your haircut to have tweeked a little like maybe trimmed shorter on the top or something they will bluntly tell you not to come back because you should have liked it the way they cut it the first time. I have the dark Asian hair and it's always so hard to get it to a lighter color I want, but all I have to do is show her a picture of what I want and she just does her magic on my hair! Stylist thought she was using thinning shears but had regular scissors. Took a *massive* chunk out of my hair on the front side of my head. She freaked out and I think she went outside, then the manager came over. I tried so hard to be cool about it, since we all make mistakes. The trim to blend it in was worse than the actual chop. I had an embarrassing indentation on the side of my hair for many months. To add insult (literally) to injury, they gave me a 20% discount instead of a free haircut. That mistake took more than six months to grow out. HUGE mistake to go to a stylist at this salon who you don't know, especially someone who isn't very experienced. read more

I went to Amber Renee salon to have 19 inches cut off my hair, so I could donate it to locks of love, and have it permed. I should have known that when i said "I had a cupon" and then Jess K (my hairstylists) reply back with the "prices that was quoted for my perm was wrong and that it would be more money because of the length of my hair. I just cut off 19 inches. It made my hair length not even touch my shoulders. I SO SHOULD HAVE LEFT RIGHT THEN, but I payed the extra, and got the worst perm of my life. I asked for a medium curl and got a body wave at best. Not to mention the sores that I had got from the cotton that was left on through the whole process. When I went in to talk with them (Jess and the owner Amber) they SEEMED willing to fix it, but we had to wait a few weeks for my open wonds to completely go away. When I return they were only willing to reperm the top 4 rods and would only redue the whole perm if I payed more money. NEVER GOING BACK read more

This place is amazing.. However, don't let Mara cut your hair. I spent a year and a half dialing in a haircut i liked. Dyed it and everything. All i needed was THE SIDES SHAVED. Easy enough you would think. She even said it! "Oh well this will be easy!" Then she proceeded to cut my hair like she was on cocaine. I LITERALLY was telling her to stop and not do things, yet she STILL managed to cut off a whole ass chunk off the front of my hair.. ruined the lineup and everything. Mind you, all i asked for was the sides cut down. Anyway.. i left, when i got home and looked in the mirror the gravity of what had just happened hit me. So i ended up going back! Went right back to Mara and showed her. she then tried to tell me how she was sorry and i could "hide it". wanted to know if i needed her to show me how to use product.. insulting honestly. After all that i'm pretty sure i could any of it better than her. Ive now cut all my hair off and am starting the whole process over again.. BUT let me leave this on a happy note. Everything else about this place is great. Some chick Kaylee, i think thats her name, Spent 5 hours giving my girlfriend an AMAZING dye and cut. Stunning results. A friend recommended Amber Rene, and I'm never looking back. As long as I live in Salt Lake Valley I'm going to go to Stephanie at Amber Rene! She is super nice and always does a great job. She was excited about my hair as I was, and made me feel like I was in good hands. She did a great job. I've gone back for a cut from her, and I'm going back soon for another color.
