He said it was good. I ordered the Saganakl and was shocked that it did not come with any bread or crackers. It was good though. Plenty of food but the gyro meat on the combo platter had a funky old taste. The pastitsio was tasty, but so over cooked some of the pasta was so dry you couldn't cut it. Everything was way over salty and no flavor but salt and lemon including the potatoes. The freshness was very questionable. read more

We were greeted right away by a very friendly young gentleman. We had never been there before so we needed some time to look over the menu. He suggested we take a seat at a table and he would take our order when ready. He was very kind and polite! We ordered the chicken gyros on a plate which was absolutely delicious. Menu states that it's hand carved which I'm not sure if that means it's still spit roasted or not but it was different than the typical chicken gyros I've had at other places. This looked and tasted like actual chicken rather than pressed meat so as a health conscious person, I loved this! The chicken was tender & juicy. It came with Greek potatoes and rice that had a delicious (lemony) gravy on top along with a soft, warm pita. The 2nd meal we ordered was the pastichio dinner. I've never had pastichio before so I wasn't sure what to expect. It's basically baked pasta (like a ziti noodle), ground meat & cheese casserole topped with bechamel sauce. Like the chicken gyros, it came with the same potatoes and rice but this dinner also came with soup or salad. I chose the avgolemono soup because it's my favorite. It's basically a creamy rice, egg & chicken soup with lemon! I'm a bit picky when it comes to the temperature of soup as I believe it should be hot. It wasn't scorching hot but it was definitely the right temperature of hot. I have nothing negative to say about our experience tonight. The service was outstanding. The food was delicious. Portions and prices were just right. Actually, with the cost increase of dining out these days, Ambrosia is very reasonable. The decor gave you the feeling of fun & casual dining in a Greek atmosphere. The restaurant was very clean, including the bathrooms! My only regret is not having been there sooner. I've lived in the next town over for over 2 decades and never knew Ambrosia was there. It doesn't help that there isn't a big sign displaying all the businesses in that strip mall either. I actually stumbled upon the place on Yelp when I did a search for Greek cuisine. Most of the local "Mediterranean" restaurants and chains will carry some Greek items but not like Ambrosia. When I actually see lamb on a menu, I know it's authentic Greek cuisine. Speaking of lamb, I want to try their of leg of lamb dinner! There are so many more things I'd like to try. As a 100% greek,i have finally found a place where i can enjoy good tasty and fresh food just like in my home country. Greece in one plate. I had the best chicken kabob wrap and my friend got the chicken dinner which had both rice and potatoes. They were some of the best greek potatoes Ive ever had. The portions were huge. I can't wait to order from here again. read more

Unfortunately my dining experience last night was no where close to 4/5 star worthy and here is why; I went last night with a buddy around 7:45 and the restaurant was practically empty, other than some carry out orders. We both ended up ordering the same thing, the egg soup and the Ambrosia salad with Chicken gyro. The young lady who took our order also served us and although she asked if we wanted the 12oz/16oz soup, what came out was lukewarm soup in a coffee cup (no where close to 12oz). The taste was good but I wish it was warmer for a cold evening. My salad came out with very large pieces of ice burg lettuce that wasn't bothered being cut. I had to bring it back to her and she was kind enough to cut it into smaller pieces. The chicken 'gyro' was not like gyro meat off the spit, it was pieces of chicken that had been sautéed. My buddy found the taste gamy and didn't eat most of his. The salad has walnuts but the walnuts were either stale or gone bad and it tasted rancid, very common with walnuts that are stale. As a die hard Pita Inn fan (I know it's not Greek), Unfortunately, I won't be returning here. read more

Ordered the Dolmades Plate with extra Dolmades and the Ambrosia Combo also with extra dolmades. The Dolmades were the size of my baby finger, and I'm sorry to say everything from the Avgolemono soup to the Greek potatoes, including the Dolmades, had an EXTREMELY bitter lemon and VERY peppery (HOT) taste. They must use the entire lemon, including the bitter white pith from the lemon rind in everything they make. I use pepper in my cooking too, but not to a level that only some can tolerate. It's a shame, everything looked so good, but most of the $40 worth of food ordered wasn't edible. The Pastichio and Gyros, that were in small sample portions included in the Ambrosia Combo, were the only items that were a bit less bitter and peppery. I had such high hopes, because I like Greek food, and personally I crave Dolmades, but sadly that was the first and last time ordering from there. read more

Well, it was hard visiting Ambrosia during Lent and my fast from meat until Easter. However, I was able to try a crispy falafel pita with fresh cut French fries. I can't wait to return and try a gyro or the roasted chicken that everyone around me seemed to be enjoying. The staff here are so friendly and family oriented. They went out of their way to greet our gathering and offered us each a slice of sweet, flaky baklava. I love Greek food and I'm pregnant so I took the chance on this random little place- boy am I thrilled I did! The menu is big, and the portions are too! The owner is beautiful and insanely nice, she could be anybody's grandma! As soon as I saw her, I knew the food was going to be killer. A counter-serve eatery with the traditional blue/white decor, Ambrosia isn't really "fast food" but rather falls into the category of casual food quickly. We had quite a sampling at our table, including the appetizer combo, and the Kalamata olive spread was the standout. Very nice. My personal selection was the "Greek Burger" - beef patty served "Greek style" which was sliced as if it were gyro meat, and placed on a pita with traditional toppings of tzatziki, tomato, and onions. The patty was slightly seasoned and quality beef. I took a side of "Greek Fries" (always will) seasoned french fries topped with herbs and feta. With extra tzatziki, you could construct your own version of poutine, ala Greek, but I didn't, instead using the spread as a nice dip for the fries. Four persons, $62 including fountain drinks. We were in the area running errands and decided to try Ambrosia Greek Eatery. We pulled in the parking lot and ordered our food, waited 25 minutes, went in and grabbed it and drove 25 minutes home. So, so good. We ordered a couple Chicken Gyro Pitas, an Ambrosia Combo, a Mediterranean Spread, a small Avgolemono soup and a Tiropita Plate. Our order was correct and even after a 25 minute drive home, it was still warm... and everything was DELICIOUS (oh my gosh, the rice; I usually don't like rice unless it is surrounded by fish and rolled in seaweed, but this rice is really so good). I was super impressed with the price too! I'm glad Ambrosia's is on the way home from my sons house. I can visit my new grandson and stop here and grab dinner on my way home! read more

Decent if over priced lunch. Came here with a friend after seeing they were recently on "Chicago's Best", I had Ambrosia combo with Greek Fries and a drink. $20. Honestly think the $12.99 for to combo should've included the drink, but oh well... I'd also have preferred to pass on the Dolmades and Pasticcio and replace them with a small order of Greek Fries as they weren't that great IMO. The order of Grerk Fries were enough for us to share tho, and for $3.75 they should be! Flavor on the Gyor meat was good, not great, the rice was alright and the potatoes were good. This place loves the Oregano and Lemon juice a little too much tho and I'd suggest they tone it down a bit. Overall I'd come back to try their other dishes if I was nearby, but Kabob Kitchen in Dundee is still the best casual Greek spot I've found in the area. read more

Just no... the girls behind the counter have horrible attitudes and are definitely not happy working there and they project that onto the customers. I was served a broken piece of dolmades which I don't appreciate. The food was not fresh and for a Saturday dine in, that was disappointing. Floor was so sticky and the place was dirty. I was hoping for a good Greek place since I moved to the Bartlett area this time last year but it looks like if I want good Greek food I'll have to drive back towards Schaumberg and go to Greek food with a kick on roselle road. Let's start with the good stuff. Great sides. Potatoes and rice are amazing. Those get 5 stars. Greek salad is solid too. Pastichio was pretty good. Although not using traditional macaroni noodles reminds me of what home chefs do. Sort of takes something away. Also the pork souvlaki was just okay. Now the bad. My wife hated the spanakopita. Dolmades had a watery sauce and were soggy. Gyros also very soft. No char on a flat top at all. And the chicken, which we saw on TV, tastes nothing like traditional Greek chicken. I know since I'm 100% Greek. We want to love this place since it is close by. Greek Islands and Naxos are 3 times the distance, but those are really good restaurants. Even Basil's is pretty good. Hoping the owners try to improve the taste and texture of most of their main courses. Will try them again down the road to see if anything has improved. But I'm not optimistic. read more

Yep, I watched as my Greek Salad was prepared; a hand full of chopped lettuce, 4 strategically placed Black Olives, a few slivers of cucumber and onion, a sprinkle of Feta and a chopped tomato afterthought. Didn't look like the staged business picture at all. And for 9 Bucks, I mumbled a series of 4 letter words repeatedly. The Greek Chicken is marinated and slathered with yellow mustard, then oven roasted. After a few of bites of that lingering mustard flavor, I was craving a Chicago Style Hot Dog with extra Sport Peppers. The Gyros is not what you expect from a self proclaimed Authentic Greek Eatery.
