What an amazing hidden gem! I stopped by Ambue Restaurant in Hollywood during a World Cup soccer event, and even though the restaurant was completely packed, the service was incredibly fast and friendly. Renato took great care of me and made the experience even better. I ordered the octopus with potatoes, which was absolutely delicious, and he even brought me a complimentary beef empanada to try. A friend invited us to visit this place, and I am so happy he did. Everything was so perfect that is hard to find where to start! From the moment we stepped inside, we got a very warm welcome from Emiliano who immediately went to grab Renato, one of the owners, when he learned we are from Brazil. And the food, oh the food..... this is where this restaurant is getting brownie points with me, they mix Brazilian and Argentinian food in one menu and if you are new to one or both, all you need to know is that they marry perfectly. We had the Pulpo which was PHENOMENAL, yes... we ordered twice because it was THAT good! I also had an empanada and the Salgados for appetizer. My husband had the carpaccio and said that is one of the best he has had, and he has had a lot of it so I trust his word. I had the Chicken Pampa that was oh soooo good... moist flavorful chicken with veggies and mashed potatoes, like in real potato as it should be, not that crap you buy in any supermarket. For dessert we had dulce de leche pancakes and brigadeiro... perfection in every bite. One more thing I can say is that I loved the care the owners put in every little detail in this place, it shows in the decoration, in the ambiance and in the service. Omg, our second time here and once again, no disappointment! We came back for the Parrillada 28 oz, and it was just as amazing as we remembered. Real talk: 4.38 review - but this place has momentum. This joint has been open a week or so. It caught my attention driving past in the early evening because the elegant touches to the atmosphere inside stands out in the neighborhood. The food is better than good. Flavors feel confident and considered. There is real pride and identity here, and it comes through in the details and the absurdly handsome waiter (save some for the rest of us bro). The beef empanadas (recommended by the Argentine Adonis) were exceptional: flaky crust, flavorful filling, and balance - your "not-anything-spicy" great aunt will still like them. The chimichurri was bright with the right garlic levels - and it had something I couldn't identify...chervil is my best guess. Subtle. Good. ... there were also three or four pieces of random greens and half of a cherry tomato as a garnish, but they had been lightly dressed and were delicious and I like that kind of thing because I'm a gentleman. The salgados were presented without a lot of glory on a small baking tray - but each filling was as good as the last, and the sweet, savory sauce served with them was excellent (I kept it to experiment with). I also had the Ambue Salad with chorizo added. The chorizo had a terrific grilled char to add to the paprika depth, the pickled red onions were subtle but flavorful, and the dressing was exactly right. Excellent dish. I'm picky about salt levels (I like too much of it) and the seasoning across the meal was very good. The flan was impressive too. Not gimmicky, just well made, with real control and execution. Portions were excellent. Two appetizers, a salad, and dessert felt substantial without being heavy, and the meal felt fair for the money. Haven't felt that way about a restaurant meal in a while. Jose, the owner, said hello and seems a very kind fella, which matched the feeling of the place: warm, proud, and authentic. The only limitation right now is beverages. At the moment it's just water and soda, but they've only been open a week. Beer and wine are in process, and it sounds like coffee service may be coming soon as well. We just had an incredible dining experience here from the beginning extremely warm and welcoming. We have a service dog and they were more than ecstatic to host us. The food is incredible steak was cooked perfect! Medium rare didn't overcook it. Flavor profile is insane. chimichurri sauce was outstanding. We had the beef stroganoff. Also really unique and special dish. We enjoyed it a lot. Last, but not least we had the Pompa salad which was also really good. The beef empanadas might be the best I've ever had! We also ordered the Pão de quejio, which is a must order, and then split the parrillada. The steak was cooked to perfection and the chicken was marinated and very flavorful. The sausage was a surprise standout for me! The closest I can compare my dining experience with this restaurant is when you stumble upon an up and coming band that is are doing small venues but you recognize that they have the potential to be the next big thing. My wife and I, met with a couple of friends for dinner. I suggested Ambue because I had driven by the restaurant and liked the interior and the Argentine/Brazilian concept seemed interesting. My expectations were exceeded in every way possible! First off, the interior design was sleek without being pretentious. The lighting was not super dark, I hate it when you have to resort to using your cellphone flashlight to read the menu. Something that never "makes or breaks" a dinner is the music but this place even took that to another level. The playlist was a pleasant surprise. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. He explained the concept of the restaurant and made great recommendations. The food was phenomenal. We had the the Parrillada which had a little bit of everything that makes South American grilling cuisine famous. There was picanha, entraña, chicken and Argentine and Brazilian sausage. It also come accompanied with rice, beans and garlic steak fries. We also ordered the pulpo, a must! It was perfectly grilled and came with a passion fruit reduction sauce. We ordered a couple of the empanadas which did not disappoint. We were also treated to an iced mate' drink that was infused with a fruit that was native to the Amazon, it was very very refreshing and similar to soursop. We all had separate desserts and none of them disappointed. They were all delicious. With all this being said, what really set the dining experience apart was the welcoming atmosphere that was demonstrated. The owners, Jose and Renato, were both present and welcomed all the patrons. We were in the area for a show at the Pantages and wanted a healthier, more comforting alternative to the usual. Ambue did not disappoint. Parking in the area is limited but we were able to find a 2-hour metered space fairly quickly. The overall vibe felt a bit shy and reserved. That's not to say it was quiet. There was music and noise. Just felt like a more reserved crowd. The waiter seemed nice but he didn't talk much. It took a while to get his attention after we dropped a fork even though he was mostly visible in the restaurant. Our group had two orders of the parrillada. "Serves 2-3" is probably pretty accurate. There were 4 of us and we couldn't finish. The meats were cooked beautifully and despite the rosemary, the flavors were wonderful. Everything else was good, seasoned nicely. The flan was a lighter version but did leave me wanting for something a little sweeter after eating so much savory. As much as I liked and recommend the parrillada, I think I would like to try some of the other dishes as well when we're back in the area. We were seated right away and greeted with amazing service from the co-owners José and Renato. You can tell how passionate they are for their food and the community they are hoping to create here! We had the pão de queijo, empanada (ham and cheese), pulpo, moqueca, entraña, and flan. Everything was delicious, familiar dishes but made very well with fresh ingredients and good seasoning. And small interesting twists on the flavors like the house-made smoked chimichurri and the sweet-and-sour sauce with the pão de queijo.
