I came here for years when I lived Accross the street. Soooo shocked at this woman's disrespect when was so nice hapoy they were still opened and I came to support and say hi. I order askinh the waitress what to get and had two tacos. Enjoyed it and when I went to pay she tells me you have to be charged min $10 on your card. No one told me and she said it's on the menu. I did not even look at the menu and the server should mention I said. She said we can not do that! I'm like, yes you can and should. I worked 20yrs serving. She said well you can leave and not come back! Wow. I wasn't even being rude just honest. She offered me to buy a Mexican soda for $4.00 which is usually $1.50 max anywhere else. And wow. Such disrespect! I asked about their children and was treated like dirt from this owner. Terrible. I'll never refer anyone again and this is no way to treat someone who simply disagreed with you and was put in a situation because I wasn't told there was a $10 min with a card. The name is La Numero Uno for a REASON!!! Unbeatable quality and solid portion sizes with Latin music filling the room with joy and warmth. Everything on the menu looked amazing and we got a bit overwhelmed, but it was a rainy day so we got the Atole de Elote and it's my new favorite drink! I was craving a champurrado and this spot came up on Google. The lady working the cashier was friendly and kind of enough to explain the menu items. I decided to go with the plantain empanadas from the "Antojitos Salvadoreños," I got two sweet cream and one bean. Both were great but I preferred the bean one! I've always driven past this place wanting to check it out. On a Saturday meeting up with my sister she had initially planned for brunch at a nearby restaurant but the wait was insane, I suggested this place. Walking in the place had a cozy welcoming atmosphere. The two ladies working FOH were so friendly and immediately sat us at a table. Their menu is a mix between Mexican & Salvadoran cuisine. I ordered off their specials menu "drunken" chilaquiles and my sister ordered off their regular menu huevos a la Mexicana. These were one of the best chilaquiles I've had, so flavorful and delicious. We accompanied our breakfast with agua de maracuya and coffee, which came with a complimentary Madeline. I thought that gesture was so sweet. It's always attention to detail regardless the size of the business. I left a huge fan. While not necessarily a drawback for me, it is worth noting that this establishment is relatively small and does not provide restrooms for guests. However, there is a portable handwashing station available. Additionally, parking is limited to metered street parking. read more

The Huevos, Steak & Chorizo was incredible!! The scrambled eggs with tomatoes and peppers were so nostalgic and tasted exactly like the ones my mom used to make for breakfast. My only complaint was the Platanos con Crema y Frijol. The beans were way too liquefied, almost like water, which was disappointing. If the beans had a better consistency, this would have been a perfect 5 star experience. Will definitely be back to try more. read more

By far, THE BEST Mole I have ever tasted!!! The Goat cheese and spinach pupusa was sooooo good and tasted as if they JUST made it! We shared the 3 enchilada plate with mole which were packed with fillings (chicken, beef and cheese!) and rice and beans to die for! My favorite was the Carne Guisada (Like a beff stew) which had lots of veggies and melt in your mouth, super tender meat. The ladies who helped us could not have been nicer!! I've been coming to this restaurant for a while, always supporting the local scene even bringing food to share with unhoused individuals nearby. Unfortunately, my last visit ended in being banned by a staff owner who has repeatedly shown hostility toward me for reasons that feel deeply personal, not professional at all . She claimed I was banned because my service dog allegedly had an accident outside the restaurant (which I did not witness). But this same staff member has, on multiple occasions, made me feel uncomfortable staring and scorned at my visibly Jewish tattoo, glaring when I sat with LGBTQ+ friends, and making comments when I offered food to people in need. I stayed quiet about it for a long time, but now I regret not speaking up sooner. This place should be a welcoming, inclusive space for everyone. Instead, I was singled out, humiliated, and treated with blatant disrespect for things that seem to have more to do with personal prejudice than any real policy as it's become excessive for many things . I hope others are mindful of the kind of behavior that's tolerated here. There are plenty of restaurants in town that support diversity and community without judgment. This lady is clearly a miserable person and has deep rooted issues that trigger this hostility and took it out on customers. Ok ok, so this is one of my favorite spots to eat in Hollywood! The food is always great quality and fresh! The staff is attentive, but not always speedy with service. The restaurant is small so when there's more than a couple people inside it does feel crowded. I have ordered from both the Mexican and Salvadoran menu (mixed culture menu) and all have been exquisite! I came with my buddy who is actually Salvi and he told me the food was up to his standards when ordering food from "the motherland" lol. The prices are about average for what you would expect to pay in Hollywood, but I would say it's worth it because I always leave happy and satisfied! The only reason I have this place a 4 star review is because they lack a public restroom for paying customer's which in this day and age is absolutely necessary. Hygiene is important! Pandemic update! 4 stars for consistently delicious taste and friendly service; some dining oddities. *** I went to an event nearby and walked here for an early Saturday dinner at around 5pm. The tables and chairs were inexplicably drenched in water. We picked the driest table and wiped it down with napkins. DRINK ORDERED - Horchata ($5) Tasted a little gritty, with cinnamon but also something like chicory. Not bad, but also not my favorite. APPS/SIDES ORDERED - Beef pastelitos ($9 - 3 pcs). Crispy corn dough empanadas stuffed with ground beef, potatoes, and peas. They reminded me of samosas. The tomato sauce it's served with honestly tasted like watered down marinara, which seems weird on it's own, but the mild tomato and onion flavor works well with the pastelito. - Plantains ($6). Still going strong. They are starchy, toothsome, sweet, and sticky. PUPUSAS ORDERED All come with cheese inside. The handmade corn masa was soft and pillowy, not too thick. While the pupusas were piping hot and good, they forgot our curtido! I ate what I could off of the pastelito plate, but it wasn't enough. The tart and peppery slaw would have contrasted nicely with the richness of the fillings. - Shrimp ($5 each). The priciest, and also my least favorite. The shrimp itself were good, not mealy, but somehow lacked synergy with the cheese. - Loroco ($3.50 each). I liked the mild vegetal flavor the best. I've never had loroco before and was afraid to try it when I looked it up (the root is poisonous, the flowers are not), but I'm glad I did. - Steak ($4 each). Not the most tender meat, but still tasty. ENTREES ORDERED - Camarones ala diabla ($18). Served with rice, refried black beans, and warm tortillas. Delicious! The shrimp were big and plump, swimming in a creamy umami sauce that almost reminded me of vodka sauce. I didn't think it was spicy, but I still wanted to lick the plate... too bad we were in public. - Chicken enchiladas ($14 - 3 pcs). I chose the mild red sauce, I thought the dish was solid. I love this place! I've stopped by a few times while running errands because it's in a very convenient location. I think I've had the same server each time I've been and she's so sweet. The menu looks great as well, but honestly I just can't help but get the pupusas! They are so amazing! I always order more than I know I can eat so I can be sure to take some home. I should really come in with a small group so we can get a lot of things to share because the menu looks so tasty but I just can't help but order the pupusas when I'm here alone. We found La Numero Uno via Yelp and saw all of the raving reviews and definitely knew we needed to try it. We ordered 5 tacos and chilaquiles verde con carne asada. And lawd let me tell you. This was THE BEST chilaquiles I've EVER had. Even coming from the land of Mexican food.. and having had some amazing chilaquiles.. this place surpasses it all. I don't even know how to praise a plate like this without ordering a second... but goodness. Goooooodness. The verde was amazing and packed with flavor and heat. I dumped all the complimentary red sauce all over it and punished myself - but in a good way. The tortilla chips weren't soggy at all and ugh. It was the brunch of dreams high key. Tacos were perfect and packed with a ton of flavor. Limiting it to 5 was probably a good and bad thing. We wanted more! The chorizo was so perfect. Carnitas were off the chart. Carne asada on both the chilaquiles and tacos were perfect. The ladies in the back know exactly how to make a great meal, even if it's super simple. Their service and attentiveness was amazing. Especially for such a busy place like LA, they were on top of it... they hustled their to go orders out just like they hustled sit ins. We stopped in for Saturday lunch before a flight home. The wife had a taco plate that was served like a fajita platter with chicken, Al Pastor and chopped beef. Included rice, beans and guacamole with cilantro. It was outstanding. Very traditional but comfortable and pleasant to hang out before an Uber to the airport. I had a beef dish sautéed with tomatoes and onions, also with rice and beans. I also received two thick homemade corn tortillas which were excellent. Best Pupusas I had in LA was at La Numero Uno. The main question was, what to fill inside your Pupusa??? So many combinations. Pupusas from La Numero Uno Salvadorian/Mexican Restaurant are just mouthwatering yumminess! It was my second time here, and they did not disappoint--still the same authentic and homemade feel--so many different Pupusa filling ideas, almost any combination that can be chopped-up or mashed-up. My preference was the "Revuelta Pupusa" (bean, cheese, and pork). It was nice to see so many vegetarian options too. It was tempting to try the goat cheese, Monterrey cheese, and Spinach filling - a modern twist. Pupusas are made to order in about 15 minutes and served with a fresh, crunchy Curtido relish (Salvadoran cabbage slaw). Each bite had a generous amount of filling and oozing melting cheese. The Restaurant seems to have inside seating once before, due to COVID, they are receiving orders at the doorway. A small seating area and 2-person tables are outside on the sidewalk. A quick note about the Menu: The menu is very cluttered, and so much to see on 1 page. They really should have a menu just for pupusas, so look at my pictures if you want to find them more accessible. I enjoyed the Pupusas at this place. I really like this place, it used to be a great place to eat. But recently their quality of food and customers service has turn to be lower quality than am usually used to. But am upset now because they are charging you a high tip without your authorization and that's not fair to us as customers. The cashier told me to call after 5 pm for a refund. When I called back 10 minutes after 5 pm. The same cashier answered the call acting like she was the manager and aggressively she argued with me about her error and she told me never to come back to the restaurant because I wasn't welcome anymore. Placing my order was super easy, and everything was done exactly as requested. Pupusas were BIG, and with plenty of extra salsa and really good curtido. Enchiladas verdes were really soft and had good flavor and spice from the sauce (although the chicken had almonds? ), while the rice and beans had that authentichomemade taste. Carne asada Tacos were really good, juicy and flavorful and served with slices of limes, cucumber and radish. Lastly the plátanos were tender but not mushy, crispy but not greasy. I'm just getting here at 11:24 am. I realize it's early but it was just very unwelcoming coming in here. We sat ourselves since no one offered to help us, ( the place was empty except the workers). Finally after about 2 - 3 minutes of sitting down, someone asked if we were dining for here. Gave us some menus and then basically ran away. Another server escorted a family to a table and then came to us for our order. The first server came in quick, right after her to try to take our order but we let her know, just like the second server, we weren't ready yet. The second server came back with some chips and some really hot salsa. Not a good tasting hot, just spicy for no reason & the chips are stale and unsalted. It's now 11:35am and we're waiting for our order to be taken. As BOTH server keep peeking out to look at us but no one is coming to check with us, even as we're looking back at them. Pretty close to leaving and finding somewhere else. I ordered a horchata and my partner got a canned coke and I still have yet to receive my horchata as she's almost done with her soda. Holding on for hope that the food is good. 11:57am - the longest wait for food. The table that came after us is already done with their food. And we have not received anything, I only got a burrito and my partner got a pork plate. Will not be coming back. Even good food can't change this review. read more

Doesn't look like much when you're walking by and it's all alone the only reason we stopped cause it was open and surgery alcohol. The staff were very kind I believe family owned and the food was flavorful. Great place for some small tasty bites and to kill some time. You can tell they poor their heart into their food . I was craving pupusa really bad 'cause my Salvadoran friend is in El Salvador and she's been posting all these yummy looking pupusas so I decided to look for pupusa and this place was the first that showed up in my search. Well, I'm glad I didn't decide in the second option 'cause this place is the real deal! First of all the decoration inside caught me off guard as it looks very Mexican festive and they do have many Mexican dishes on the menu even on the day's special. But your girl wanted to pupusas so I saw they have the regular masa, blue corn, rice and yucca masa pupusas I decided to venture and try the yucca pupusas. Ohheemgeee! They were delightful! I left that plate clean. Those pupusas were so tasty really! And the filling was perfect that I got some on each bite. I even order some regular pupusas to take home that same day. I love how they bring you chips and salsa while waiting for your food. I had the pineapple drink witch chamoy and tajin which was yummy too. Both ladies working there were on top on their games attending customers dining in and taking to go orders out quick. I'll definitely come back and/or order delivery from here.
