The service is always warm and attentive, and if you let them know that you're going to the Pantages, they do everything they can to get you there in plenty of time. (It's an easy walking distance to the Pantages and parking at or across from the restaurant is half the cost of parking on Vine.) The patio is beautiful and amazingly quiet for being so close to Cahuenga. The food is fresh, beautifully seasoned, and delicious. The menu is varied enough that it has options for vegetarians and vegans too.I've never been anything less than delighted with anything I've ordered. I made a reservation for an hour before they close and we walked over and were seated relatively quickly. We asked for a seat with a heater nearby but they were full and didn't have one available. We sat and ordered our food and then they informed us a table opened up near a heater! We were quickly switched. The outside seating is cute with lights and a patio cover over the area. It's relatively small though in general so I can imagine on a busy night how packed it could get. We started with calamari, pork belly pincho and tostadas. The calamari was good but small portions. The pork belly pincho was amazing it had some tamarind sauce which had a bbqish flavor and it was soo tender but crispy on the outside. I just wish it came with more but we ended up ordering 2 of them. The other people in our party got their food first and I was waiting for my steak to come out but it came out undercooked like almost raw inside so I politely asked if they could send it back to fix it. From the outside you could easily miss it, but once you walk in and head to the back patio, it's this cute outdoor space full of plants that gives total Italian vibe. A special place. We decided to spend a special occasion here. We were lucky Superbowl was taking place so less people out and about and restaurant was pretty empty. Got seated immediately and food came out in under 10 minutes. Once again staff is good and patient at explaining their menu. Customer service is good. Loved my steak and eggs. The strange thing about Running Goose is that I have now "stumbled across them" three times, so documenting my most recent experience on Yelp so that it doesn't happen again...because they are SO WORTH the intentional trip out for dinner or brunch. A rare mimosa deal, kind/fun staff, intentional wine list, a "secret garden" vibe, and deep, unique flavors make this so much more than a "let's stop in before our show at the Pantages" meal (...but it's also great for that!) The owner, Armen, is an absolute gem of a man and one of our guests recognized him as the previous owner of Green Street Tavern in Pasadena, where they had so many wonderful memories. No idea what magic was going on there but it was insane. Then the smoked potatoes... that sauce was unreal, like spoon-it-straight addictive. The gambas came out sizzling with garlic, sweet cherry tomatoes, and perfectly cooked shrimp -- and that dipping bread... unreal, soaking up every drop. Then the mains... short rib and duck. Both ridiculous. The short rib was fall-apart tender with a sauce so good I was literally eating it by the spoon. The duck? Same story -- crispy, juicy, balanced, just dialed in. The service is very nice and personable, but we didn't enjoy the food tremendously. Went here before the pantages matinee on Saturday. The baked : roasted Bree was very exciting as it was sizzling as it came to the table, but I really didn't enjoy either of the toast which was cracker consistency or the apricot jam.. the flavors were just not a good mix for me. The brie was totally melted and really there was not much flavor there. I had the wild boar hash and it really just tasted like regular pork. There was nothing spectacular about it although it was well done and the egg was good. My dining companion had the Chilaquiles. The smoked beet quesadilla was described as cactus tortillas filled with queso, parm, and beets, topped with radishes and pepitas, and laid on a bed of basil crema - intriguing to say the least. And let me tell you, the dish was fantastic! The smoked beets were perfectly tender and paired well with the cheese and basil crema. And of course I can't live without spice so I added their housemade habanero sauce as a finishing touch. Overall, the food was excellent, the service was first-class, and the patio decor and ambiance made a splendid backdrop for our night out. We ordered the Arugula Tostada, Corn Tostada, Baked Brie, Gambas, Salt Cod Churros, Braised Short Rib, Duck Confit, and the Horchata Creme Brule for dessert. The tostadas were both simple but very delicious. This was where the freshness of the ingredients was obvious. The Baked Brie was unique. I usually don't like sweet flavors with cheese, but the apricot compote really worked well with the cheese and bread. The Salt Cod Churros were interesting in a good way. The saffron aioli complimented the fishy taste of the churros. The tomatoes and shrimp in the Gambas were fresh and juicy. The duck was tender and the rupini side was flavorful. The braised short rib hidden under the fresh herbs and cheese made a great dip for the corn tortilla. The Horchata Creme Brule was sweet, creamy, and tart. I came during lunch on a Saturday and it was not too busy. It's a hidden restaurant that I happen to find when looking for spots to eat before a show at the Pantages. I highly recommend coming here. The atmosphere is quiet, with a really nice outdoor spaced patio. We tried their Brie bread, lamp chops, burgers, and chilaquiles. All fantastic! Their lamp chops are appetizers so expect a small size but they were made very well with delicious sauces. Those who ordered the burgers really enjoyed the taste and how it was cooked, fries are fantastic. I had the chilaquiles, good portion and tons of short rib. A great combo! I had a bad experience here. Perhaps it's a one time bad experience and I hope they figure it out. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came out well done and grey. I requested it to be more in line with medium rare and I was told that because the rib eye was such a thin cut they couldn't cook it medium rare. So they returned me a blue steak completely rare. Then I was told how I was wrong and thin cuts can't be made medium rare. At the end I just didn't eat anything and I paid $45 for inept cooking. Needless to say I won't return and I would recommend they either take the rib eye off the menu or figure out how to cook a thin steak somewhere between well done and blue. read more

Went to a 6pm dinner on a weeknight. I was looking for a nice quiet place for dinner and was recommended here by several sources. Upon arrival I was greeted quickly and brought to my table. Small, but very charming outdoor environment. It was a chilly evening, so I was happy to see heaters outside. The menu was a beautiful array of choices, although only beer, and wine to drink. The food arrived timely and was also beautiful. I had ordered steak, which I asked for pink in the middle but got raw. Raw always scares me, so I asked if they could put it on the fire a bit longer, which I sort felt I was made to feel bad about. Sort of like I made the mistake? Afterwards it was fine. The food was very good. The oddest thing was in the middle of the meal the outdoor heaters were turned off. It got incredibly cold. It felt like the restaurant was saying, ok. You're done, you can go now. There was only the one server there, so perhaps they were trying to conserve? But it was very uncomfortable. Had a delicious dessert and left. Overall the food was very good, we felt overlooked by the server. If it was a warm night the environment would be charming. But the price point seemed a bit high for what it was. Would we go back? Confit duck leg, oven-baked sweet potato, rapini, carrot purée, cherry port wine reduction. The flavor on the duck was unreal. I almost bit the bone. The sweet potato and carrot purée worked perfectly together, and the cherry port reduction was beautifully balanced. It didn't overpower the dish at all, it complemented it. My only small note is that a few parts of the duck were cold, which makes me think it may have been pre-cooked and then seared without fully coming to temp. That said, it was so good I genuinely did not care. I had zero desires to send it back and almost licked the plate clean. I fully expected to have leftovers and instead finished every bite.
