Walked in to take a seat to see my movie and there was popcorn in my seat a napkin and sticky ass floors.

Please note that I've come here a total of 3 times due to the fact that they have an AMC XL screen but I think I'm going to have to find me a regal theater because this place is DIRTY! Every time I go I'm peeling my feet off the floors. If there was an award for the world's stickiest floor they would win. I enter the theater I go to sit down my seat is filled with popcorn. Everytime somebody got up in the theater all you heard was there feet peeling off the floor it's nasty. Find a better theater If you can.

    Can't wait to see this!

First time at this AMC and I love the old school vibe. Order tickets online and my popcorn. Over to the left the popcorn and soda cups were in a bag with my name on it. Saw the Captain America and the new laser screening was crystal clear and the colors popped!

Customer service was great. The image and quality of the movie was great as well as sound.

It is huge, plenty of parking space. Came in today to watch The Little Mermaid with my younger sister. Lines move fast and we had coupons. It was a great day!

I like this theater. Plenty of ticket machines. Food counter have decent amount of snacks. I'm trying the salted pretzels this time. Theater is clean and people are considerate. No talking, phones not ringing, and the parking lot is big. Bathrooms are clean, never a line to get in. It's my go to theater. Staff are pleasant and friendly.

Good cinema. It's a bit older and no reclining chairs but well maintained. Saw a movie here with some friends and enjoyed it.

Concessions are arranged in a super convenient way. The IMAX screen is great but the theater needs recliners.

Before the invention of 15 movie multi-plexes featuring stylized lobbies, stadium seating,…read moresuper-sized reclining chairs, and full menus, we all went to cinemas like The Cranford Theater. The concession stand sells popcorn, candy, and soda. The seats are small and squeak when you shift position. The rows don't have enough room between them for you to squeeze past seated patrons without banging against their knees. The bathrooms look exactly like the bathrooms in a typical 1970s grammar school. I saw another Yelp reviewer observed that no one under age 50 comes here, and I noticed that too. If the only movie theaters you've been to were built this century, then an old cinema like this one would be a shock. I doubt anyone born since 1990 would tolerate sitting for three hours in this dated theater. Parking is a problem. We parked on the street a few blocks away and walked because the tiny lot in front of the movie theater was already full, even though we were about 20 minutes early. Despite being an old theater, the actual sound and screen projection of the movie is fine. This cinema does get the latest releases and shows them at convenient times, including matinees. It's got a prime location downtown within walking distance of many places to buy food and drinks. Look for discount ticket prices on certain days and times.

New seats and carpeting along with other changes have made this a really great theater. They have classic movies once a month and other special events around Halloween and Christmas time. The screens are of a good size for a multiplex crystal clear projection and great sound. Definitely come down and support this movie theater in the wonderful downtown of Cranford New Jersey. Get something to eat in one of the good restaurants before after the movie. Too many independent theaters in New Jersey have closed over the past few years. The Cranford Theater is an honorable holdout in the war against AMC nonsense, even more important because of its relative proximity to the nauseating Route 22. A ticket to The Holdovers was a reasonable $13.75, and it's delightful to see a place that avoided the pointless reserved seat bandwagon. The young guy selling tickets was quick and friendly. Fellow explorers of inner-ring suburbs should note that Cranford is closer than you might think and the theater is minutes away from the train station. (For my next coffeehouse open mic performance I plan to read the first two sentences of this review in the voice of the Paul Giamatti character from Holdovers).

In 2017, New Visions theaters took over and it seemed like it may have been a bright new chapter in the theater's history. However, in September 2019 the theater was unceremoniously shuttered and many fans of this wonderful downtown area in New Jersey were left to wonder if their beloved theater would ever play to audiences again. Fast forward to November 8, 2019 and the Cranford Theater has reopened! This time out it is owned by the folks who own the property. They did not just dust off what was there and open back up. Instead, the entire theater has undergone a renovation. New lighting, projectors, seats, carpeteting, a new concession stand and even a "mobile" box office station are all part of this treatment. The blue, gold and silver colors incorporated into the theater are intended to align with some of the colors that represent Cranford itself, making for a theater that truly wants to be part of the community. The theater is full of friendly staff and courteous, local patrons who all seem to know each other (I have watched entire rows of people chatting with each other like old friends). The new seats are very comfortable and have a nice high back. There are several screens divided in a space that once only showed one movie so this is not the place to look for an IMAX or Dolby experience. However as someone who goes to movies often I had zero problem with the screen size and sound quality. You may not want to see "Star Wars" here, but a film like "Joker" or "Last Christmas" is just fine on these screens. I am very happy Cranford Theater has made a return to the neighborhood and I have every intention of supporting it as much as I can.

To have one right in our borough, in our very crowded city, is such a treat. And it was all free. The second time we went we even got free treats left on our windshield. The staff was amazing. They led us through the maze of metal barricades and cones to the viewing area, made sure we were parked appropriately on the lawn, good enough to view the screen perfectly straight on, and helped us to turn all of our lights off. When we weren't able to tune them all off while still listening to the movie audio on our radio, they came around and lent us a portable radio. That way we could turn the car completely off and listen to the movie audio from their borrowed radio. There was also a food stand, but we had dinner beforehand and brought our own snacks, so we didn't order from them. All in all, a pretty awesome experience for the whole family. The sound level was literally deafening, and I don't mean that in a complimentary way; I mean that despite wearing noise-reducing earbuds I experienced some of the symptoms of permanent hearing loss after the movie. Namely, a couple of hours after the movie was over, I heard a faint ringing in my ears. I also saw two other audience members putting their fingers in their ears during the loudest parts of the movie, which clearly shows that the sound was too loud for them as well. It is disappointing that an otherwise good film was ruined by a volume choice that seemed to be recklessly chosen, without regard for customers' well-being. Bigger isn't always better. This review is to warn others who are considering going to this theater to bring earplugs. Also, I hope AMC takes the hearing of its customers more seriously, so that people who pay money to enjoy a nice movie don't also risk permanently damage their hearing. I don't know if this is a problem with this branch or with AMC in general. I hope this complaint is forwarded to the relevant decision-maker(s) so that AMC moviegoers in the future won't suffer permanent harm to their hearing. UPDATE: My mother, who was in the theater with me that day, received the attached alert on her Apple Watch. The highest sound level that day, 103dB, is capable of causing permanent hearing loss after just a few minutes. I am considering pursuing this with local authorities until I know AMC has taken action to protect future customers and the theater's staff (potential OSHA safety violation).
