I went to see Spiderman in the afternoon on opening day. I didn't feel safe at this theater. There was a group of high school-aged kids - looked like a summer field trip of some sort - sitting in the row behind me and my group. The majority of them were loud and unruly. My chair was kicked and my head hit many times as the kids made their way up and down the row behind me. One of them kept shining her phone flashlight all over the place. Some were having loud conversations while the movie was playing. Who pays to sit in the dark and talk?! Ushers were useless. The chaperones did nothing to stop the behavior. My favorite AMC in Chicago. While many AMCs are charging crazy prices, and have even started charging EXTRA for seats with a good "sight line", this location has kept their ticket prices reasonable, running $5-$8 for regular shows, and $10-$13 for 3D shows. The popcorn is always good and fresh, and all of the other concession items are comparable to other theaters. The bathrooms are always clean, and the staff is courteous. The parking lot is HUGE, so definitely not a problem there. For those taking the bus, be prepared to walk another block from the bus stop due to this theater being located down a valley. The picture and sound for all of the movies are always on point. One time I ordered tickets for a movie with subtitles by accident, and they switched out my tickets with no problem. read more

Went with my family on Sunday May 4th the seat are old and worn out .. saw the movie Kings of the King...at 6 pm theater 2.... Left and realize 15 mins later I left my small black purse there.. called as I was on my way back to look for it... was kept on hold for a long time by manager... I actually got there and was still on hold... went inside with my daughter to look for my wallet and no one was in the theater and it was cleaned......my small purse was gone... the only one access to the place was the person who cleaned the area there. I spoke with an unprofessional male supervisor and a female manager who stood behind the supervisor. They offered no apologies and said no one turned it in... no one was in the theater but my family and a few people in the back. I was the last one to leave the theater because my grandson spilled his popcorn... I'm sure they have cameras... manager and supervisor acted dumb and not professional at all. It's like the manager has no people skills she let the supervisor speak for her and the supervisor didn't want to give his dumb name... Time heals old wounds right? Well I've been back here a few times and it seems like things have gotten better. The first thing is that you cannot compete with the prices. I usually go to this one or the one in Skokie. Skokie is literally 2times the price. I would say that there is a fair trade off. I always buy tickets online to avoid long lines, and have my AMC stubs app pulled up when I arrive and you can get around pretty quickly. I will say this is one of the few AMCs that actually observe the VIP stubs line. I've been able to jump the line like 5 times in the past 4 months or so. The only thing that would give it more stars is if the theater was a bit more cleanly. You can definitely notice the sticky floors especially in the evening. read more

This AMC tops many of theaters across the board! I have brought a group of kids on a field trip and returned with a group of adults on a field trip (LOL) a month later! Both of our groups, whether it was 20 kids or 50 adults, were accommodated perfectly! Leslie & Tasha and staff were kind, helpful, and informative on what snack deals there were and helped with any problems I had with my tickets, etc. The theater is clean & in a tucked away area (to me) off of Grand & Central, making it quaint & not too crowded. I've only visited in the early afternoon, though, so that may make a big difference re: customer traffic. The huge parking lot is an added plus as well. You won't get reclining seats (thus the price), but you'll still get a great experience! We'll be back soon for a new movie release! read more

Galewood theater is not a bad theater yes before there was rats but the have become clean with the bathrooms and the concession stands we go there but we go early we don't go to late and when we do go we watch our movie and we leave we don't hang around but its much cleaner now not like in Cicero AMC crossing it rats everywhere they sit and watch the movie with you enjoy the movie the price and keep it moving the popcorn is nice and hot I love the flat bread pizza its the best I like it plus its cheap who wants to pay 20 for 1 tucket to watch a move for that I'll stay home and watch netflux but its kool to get out of the house with friends and good company enjoy life a lil read more

THE WORST AMC. EVER. HORRIBLE. I rarely give a 1-star review on Yelp. This is the worst AMC movie theater around. It's horrible. Long, long slow lines with usually only 1 employee selling tickets. The employee is responsible for going between the VIP AMC members to the non-AMC member window. Management here sucks. It's non-existent. My review is based on coming here 3 different times to see a matinee movie. My advice: Go to another AMC movie theater. Don't patronize this AMC. OR buy your ticket on line and pay ridiculous extra fees. However, if you don't mind waiting in a long line that barely moves, making you miss 10 or 15 minutes of the start of a movie -- this might be YOUR favorite AMC. We always arrive 1 hour before the start time of a movie. Still, arriving 1 hour early is a waste of time. Also, if they are scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on weekends this AMC IS ALWAYS LATE opening on time. The movie theater has 2 kiosk machines for customers to purchase tickets with a debit or credit card. THEY DON'T WORK! They NEVER do. These 2 kiosk machines are merely there for decorative purposes. WTF! Why have these machines if they NEVER EVER work?!?!?!!! If you decide to go to this AMC be prepared to wait a long time in line. Be prepared to miss a portion of your movie. Be prepared for non-existent customer service. Be prepared for non-existent management. Be prepared to become frustrated or angry. Be prepared to get stressed out. Yes, if you don't mind getting frustrated, upset, stressed out, standing in a super long line that barely moves, missing the first 10 minutes of your movie, dealing with non-existent management that sucks, this may become your favorite AMC theater. Even though this location doesn't have the fancy schmancy reclining seats, I give it 5 stars because of the price alone. What can beat a $6 price to go to the movies for a regular price adult admission??!! Its clean and the seats are still pretty comfy. The location might turn off some of the more "boogee-er" folks as its on the outskirts of the "hood", but I haven't come across any issues and I've been coming here for years. When did you pay under $5 for a movie at a legit cinema? I know I used to when I was in high school in the early 2000's. Matinee shows at this AMC, across from the Hanson Park Metra Station (off Central Ave.) are $4.95! The neighborhood where this AMC is located is listed as "Galewood." In actuality, it's in between Galewood, Belmont Cragin, and Austin as no man's land. Therefore, parking is beyond plenty since choices of places to hang out, pre- and post-movie, are limited. Hubby was crazy enough to go see the Star Wars for the second time at this movie theater. He was pleasantly surprised because the amenities here are well-maintained. The seating might not be posh, luxurious, and recline-able, yet it was acceptably clean in my opinion. We came to see "Joy," based on the true story of the Home Shopping Network sensation, Joy Mangano. Yes, let me digress just a bit. When I'm not doing my Yelp homework or writing Yelp reviews, I spend a good amount of hours working and watching HSN. I own JM huggable hangers, the little steamer, jewelry organizers, beauty cases, and handbags. I wouldn't say every product was truly a home run, but she did have many brilliant ideas and was determined to turn herself around to becoming an entrepreneur. Besides the tickets being super affordable, the workers were friendly. Malcolm, the ticketing agent, was fun to talk to and had a sense of humor. If you feel iffy about this cinema, I hope my review can clear some of your doubts. The only public transportation nearby is the CTA #85 (Central) bus. AMC $5 Tuesdays are usually the best times for movies. This spot has ticket price discounts before noon or first movie showing time for about $5 per person. A big private parking lot in the city and employees make sure the movie seatings are cleaned before and afterwards. Self serve butter and salt for your popcorn as well as soft drinks/icee machines. $17 for xtra large popcorn and xtra large beverage for $17 with free gummy bag. Hmm...Next time I'll sneak in my concession food and drinks in my big purse! Just kidding, or am I? I'm pretty sure this is a bargain for 4 people. But it was just my 5 year old and I watching a lego movie. Love the adjustable arm rest and surround sound. Overall a great movie experience. read more

Okay... we've been coming to this theater for years now. It is one of those theaters that is great to catch a movie at no matter what day of the week. We have even purchased a whole row of seats one year for our daughters birthday party... it was an amazing time and we had a fabulous time. We had no problems getting seats all together as this theater has assigned seating when you purchase the tickets. Having the AMC app is also a life saver especially when you know that it will be a night where there will be long lines for a popular movie and you can get buy the tickets ahead of time... pass up all those people still waiting in line. And you don't run the risk of waiting for a movie and the tickets are sold out! The prices for the tickets are not that expensive so a family of 4 can literally see a movie for about +/-$20 on any given day. So it makes for a great family date night place to go. I met a family member here to see THE GRINCH movie. I made a mistake and thought this was the Melrose park theater. I had already bought tickets online and drove to Melrose park when I realized I made a mistake. We quickly drove to Galewood Crossing (which is not in Galewood) . I must say that I was pleasantly surprised. The theater was clean and roomy. The staff at the popcorn area were very polite. There was plenty of parking and it was easy to get in and out without any problems. Low maintenance. I might check out another movie here. read more

Seeing Dumb & Dumber 2 here Saturday night was a very good news / bad news kinda sitsh. I left the theater feeling concurrently pleased and aggravated. Per example: Good: movie tickets were cheap. Like, WAY cheaper than I'm used to. For an film's opening weekend, on a Saturday night, I paid substantially less than I was expecting, something along the lines of $6/pp. Bad: drinks and concessions were far too expensive. A medium drink (44 oz, a behemoth) was $5.75, popcorn was around the same. This actually cost more than 2 admissions. Good: they had a Coke freestyle machine, which not only meant unlimited refills (and no waiting in line to ask 'please sir may I have another') , but unlimited combinations. AND a slushy machine, to boot! Bad: a certain group of people were being continually disruptive. Texting, talking to each other, shouting at the perpetrators to shut the [blank] up (which made things 100x worse, naturally, as a yelling match ensued), and generally having no respect for the rest of us moviegoers. I won't make any specific disparaging remarks, because Yelp is not the outlet for that. That's more of a 4chan or reddit thing. AMC Showplace is hidden a bit off of Central in the Galewood area of the city. Sure, it's not the cleanest theater....And sure, there is no ticket taker so we saw people just rolling right in without a ticket, but it gets the job done. The lady who was working the ticket counter was bubbly, friendly and helpful when I was buying my ticket. My friend and I saw Hangover 3 on opening night and the theater was pretty desolate. While probably a bad sign for the theater, it was a good thing for me to not be crowded in by people. I got my money spot favorite theater seat - middle section of the front of the back (if that makes any sense) - Score! This is my friend and I's go to movie theater. It is our prized secret! The ticket prices alone should be why you would drive 30 mins out of your way to come here. Inside is pretty well kept, even though it's generally busy. They have the soda machine where you can kill 20 million hours mix and matching different soda flavors. Plus they have a ICEE machine which is all I ever want. On opening night for Mad Max my friend and I paid *wait for it* ONLY 5.95!!! incredible! Seeing as movie tickets usually cost about 13 bucks. Alright so I've been giving my money to this place for about 4 years now and for the most part I'm satisfied First off let me start by saying I commend the staff and security for how they handled this past Valentine's Day. That theater was a complete sea of people (mostly for Deadpool) and confusion everywhere, but they handled it I feel to the best of their capabilities even when that "incident" happened. It could have been a complete shit show but the ticket sales reps were hustling to get everyone out of line and into theaters. I've never seen lines move that fast with that many people in them. I didn't use the bathroom there that day because eh I had a feeling I'd see some things I'd probably never recover from given how many people and little kids were going in and out of there constantly, so happily I really can't comment on how clean that area was but the actual theaters that day were very clean, as they are every time I visit. For the most part it's a chill and affordable theater and I'm happy to say that yes this theater STILL enforces their age restrictions on movies, so take that you prepubescent cellphone talkers! read more

It is good a theater near my home. I usually head the AMC RiverEast, I still do. The theater is clean. Friendly staff. And you can't go wrong the prices. $4.49 plus tax for an afternoon movie. That is deal. So about 10 for two people. The soda selection is on point. The concession stands get long lines but it moves quickly. The stadium seating is a nice touch. The seats don't recline fully, but still comfortable to enjoy a movie. The only thing, I wish theater goers would pick up after themselves. I know the staff is there to clean the theater, but don't leave a huge mess on purpose. Overall, I give this theater 5 plus stars. I will be back soon. read more

Why did I not know this movie theater existed? When we moved to Hermosa we kept going to the Regal Theaters at Logan/Western or Webster/Clybourn. Those were our usual haunts and we (wrongly) assumed those were the closest theaters to us still. Boy, were we wrong! I logged into Fandango one day to buy tickets and the theater listings pulled up Galewood as the one closest to our address. Thus we went to this theater for the first time. First of all, there's FREE parking. The lot is humongous and the parking is FREE. No tickets to pull, no validation... just free parking. Second, all of the tickets are $6. Seriously. For evening shows. $6. No IDs necessary, no lying about student discounts... just $6 per ticket. They're like $6.50 each if you buy them on Fandango ahead of time. Worth it. Third, there are free refills on all drinks and popcorn. ALL. The bucket of popcorn is like $6 and the gigantic drink is like $6 and they both offer free refills. ALL NIGHT. Get all the popcorn you can stomach. Fourth, YOU CAN FILL YOUR HUGE CUP WITH ICEES. This is probably the best part of this theater. The Icee machine is IN FRONT OF THE COUNTER and you can fill your huge ass $6 beverage cup with as much Icee as you can handle. OMG. The theaters themselves are comfortable with stadium seating. There's cup holders for ever seat, plenty of room to get in and out without getting up, and plenty of seating. Seriously, go here. If its your first time here it can get confusing finding the AMC. I remember coming here when I was much younger, not sure if I just didn't notice the dirt and the sticky floors back then? Not the cleanest movie theater I have been to, that's for sure. I still like coming here mostly out of sentiment, plus i can put as much butter on my popcorn as my little heart desires. Worst cinema ever! I gave it two chances. No more. First, it is nearly impossible to enter the lot (see Andrea R's review). Second, the crowd is dead. This would be good if the service you got were quick and friendly, but you still end up waiting 10 minutes for the concession attendants to stop gossiping long enough to take your order (btw, $5 for medium popcorn???). Third, the undead portion of the crowd is ghetto. Sorry if that word is inappropriate, but they are inappropriate! Example: Last weekend I went to see The Strangers. I know this isn't a quality movie, but it looked creepy. We sit down and a few people start trickling in, some with small children. WTF? Take them to Narnia. Anyway, I'll give the parents a break. Then, a group of girls sits in the row behind us. They start yapping all through the previews about how scared they are going to be. Then, the announcement to turn your cell phones off comes onto the screen. The one girl's phone rings and she answers it! It's her dad asking where she is and blah blah blah... She finally hangs up right when the movie is about to start. Her friends keep talking and laughing. After 5 minutes, my niece turns around and says, "Um EXCUSE ME?" to which they hushed up for all of 3 seconds. After another 10 minutes of them saying, "Ooh, I'm scared" when the only thing being scary so far was Liv Tyler's apparent premature bags, I got up and left. I went to the manager's desk and explained that what happened. I did get a refund because I only caught 15 minutes of the movie, but no one so much as offered an apology or sent an usher in there to sort the "disruptive patrons" as their announcement claims. The best and worst theater that I have been to. The best because the theaters just seem to be more open then most and the seats are amazing. A person would have to be at leas 7ft or have a really long torso to get in the way of your view. Now the downside, people who go to this theater. Personally I've never seen an armed security guard at a matinée movie theater. Maybe for a music event or sports event but if you need someone with gun at noon how many do you need at night. Also at two different times people were escorted from our movie, they weren't being loud, until they got removed, so I'm not sure what they did. Finally I read the reviews of Rhonda and Marlyn and a couple of other people told me the same thing as they did, avoid the later shows and stick the matinées, you'll enjoy the movie more and hopefully interruption free read more

This is my all time favorite theater. *I am a little... well no... I am A LOT dismayed by all of the racist *comments left by other Yelpers. I moved to Chicago from Alabama a *decade ago and it still amazes me how in the South folks try really hard *to not come off as racist whether they are or not and up here people are *just openly racist and assume that they are not. It's wild... so anyway- *back to the review! This theater was recently acquired by another theater company and honestly I haven't been there as much since the change over. They used to have (and maybe still do) a $5 movie club but the matinee price was $4. So if you went early two people could see a movie for less than $10 and if you went at night, it was $10 even. Additionally if you went on Tuesday- that was free popcorn day. That's really awesome- especially since it's a newer and therefore cleaner theater than anywhere else you could go for so cheap. The people working here have always seemed pretty happy which leads me to assume that they are treated with respect by the management. The parking lot is massive and I have NEVER seen it even half way filled up. If the line to get tickets is moving too slow, because let's face it, you didn't get there early enough- there are two electronic ticket machines that you can use to buy tickets at no additional cost. read more

This is probably the main theater I look up to attend before going to others. Contrary to other reviews I've looked at I find that this theater is clean and fairly priced, plus a huge free parking lot. Matinees are still $5 which is rare to come across and during the weekdays all movies not including the 3D sorts are around $6.50 until 6pm. This is unheard of at most theaters in the city now. Galewood also offers matinees as early as 10am instead of between noon and 2pm which I appreciate since I like to catch matinees and then have the rest of my day free. I see talk of thuggery but I've come for late night showings too of popular movies and I've never encountered a problem. Those who complain are probably looking or asking for trouble but no problems with hoods here given the neighborhood. Plus they would have to be of below average intelligence to set it there with the central booking police station directly behind the complex on Grand Ave. Bottom line is it's a theater. They play movies. They are affordable. They have concessions. They have free parking. You just gotta show up. read more

Who doesn't like to save money especially when you have little ankle biters that continuously ask you to take them see the latest cartoon movie out? I think we can all agree that the price of movie tickets has skyrocketed and who doesn't regret dishing out $11-12 bucks a ticket when the movie you just saw sucked? Enter AMC Galewood... usually the other places the only time it is anywhere near an acceptable price is when its matinee and even then, I think this place still beats any matinee price of other theaters. The theater is maintained fairly clean and the parking situation is pretty decent. The only reason I am deducting one star is because the theater is in the middle of sketchy neighborhood and unfortunately, the place attracts a more....interesting... group of people than other theaters. But I have never felt unsafe and there is security guards always on hand. lucky for me, my daughter does not like popcorn so we bypass the concession stand... not sure how the service is there..and surprisingly the fact that the woman's bathrooms have like a gazillion stalls also makes me want to rate it higher... read more

I went here on a saturday morning matinee show, there were maybe 9 other cars in the parking lot so it felt like we had the place all to ourselves, it was nice and quiet and the movie we watched had only about 5 other people in the theatre. The floors tried to steal my shoes, but sticky floors are a pretty standard movie theater cliche. The concessions are just as pricey as other theaters, much to my dismay. Don't get my hopes up with your cheap admission only to dash them when I pay $5.50 for a medium slushy. MEDIUM! But overall, the place is pretty well-kept and clean. The crowd wasn't terrible, the staff was friendly, the seats were comfortable, and the movie was a movie. The screen was a little dark, but I feel like that's every theater ever now.
