There was a movie I wanted to see and since I was on a work trip, I had downtime in the evenings. I went through cycling 4 different showtimes to see what seats were available. 3 of the showtimes only had front row available. Now I've been to plenty of movie theaters but everyone knows front row is only good if you want to go to the chiropractor the next day. Upon arrival for my showtime, I was shocked. My movie was in auditorium 5... Not sure if the other auditoriums follow the same pattern but the screen was tiny compared to the seating arrangement. The seats were comfortable and spacious but when compared to the screen, the viewing distance was way too far. If I had known this, front row would have been fine. read more

They charge upwards of 8 dollars for a medium fountain drink. 9 for a large and 6 dollars for a bottle of water. This inflation of prices is absolutely insane. Most restaurants up charge cups to 3 maybe 4 dollars but almost doubling this price is insane. Cups are so cheap and I saw about 10,000 in the back room and yet it's almost 10 dollars just to get a fountain lemonade. They are profiting so insanely, I hope the workers are getting paid very very well with these prices. read more

I love my town's AMC Theater! Going into this AMC is like a home to me! I have become great friends with the managers and staff here! As an AMC Stubs A-Lister I frequent this theater no less than twice a week. The staff is always accommodating. The theaters are all always clean, as well as the bathrooms! Fresh popcorn and food is always prepared great! (Get the cheese sticks) Put your money into your hometown theater and feel at home the way I do when I visit! read more

PLEASE READ: 5 stars for excellent staff and good snacks. I am very pleased with the way I am treated when I visit this theatre, BUT I'm considering giving up moviegoing as a whole. The corporate apathy is blatantly evident. They showed a trailer for a movie they are not even showing, for whatever reason. When I called to simply ask management "why," nobody picked up, which immediately indicated understaffing. The RUDE robot that answered hung up on me, rather than transferring me to a representative or escalating to the next position on the chain of command. Why aren't they permitted to show an educational drama that they themselves are forced to advertise?! Skip the theatre. Read a book or something. read more

Decided to try this theater after the Marquee in Bristol's website wouldn't let us buy tickets ahead of time. We had heard good things about this theater and their seats. We were severely disappointed. I am not obese but I do have wider hips and these were the most uncomfortable chairs ever. They were so tight that if I moved in the slightest I was turning the seat heater on/off or reclining on accident. We lifted up the middle arm rest in order to have more room but there is a wooden piece in between the two seats that was so uncomfortable to be up against. There was a noise that played throughout the entire movie like a deep whir that was beyond annoying. The people who clean the theater after the movie is over (two males and a female) came in 10-15 before the credits and sat directly in front of us and the girl was on her phone the entire time. The theater was insanely hot and the bathroom was disgusting. Two stars because the workers at the concession stand were very nice and friendly and the theater has popcorn cheese seasoning. Will not return. We're already discussing rewatching the movie at Marquee because we were so distracted and uncomfortable. Edited to add that were 30 minutes of commercials and previews before the movie even started which feels like a lot. read more

This is a nice theater ever since they put in refilling chairs with heat warmer. It's been renovated recently with a bar and a new menu with multiple food options (Hot dogs, pretzels, fried macaroni cheese bites, etc.)Overall it is clean they are very respectful and the movie quality is good. read more

1. We were screamed at by an employee upon entry (through the main door on a Thursday night at 8:45). 2. An employee literally argued with me about how long ago popcorn had been popped - he said it'd been 14 seconds, it had not. But he was weirdly insistent on arguing about it. Like, super weird. 3. Besides the screaming and the arguing, all of the employees were sadly, sour-faced :( 4. Seats are comfy (finally) but do not make up for the lack of service. 5. They really just need to fix their seats, as I was quite livid when I discovered that mine did not recline, after having traveled over an hour to go to an AMC with reclining seats. This is a black spot that turned a good experience into a mediocre one. read more

Just went last week to catch a movie with my wife, I haven't been sense they remodeled the place. We were shocked they have self serve drink & slushy stations. You can butter your own popcorn and don't let me forget the reclining chairs with heated backs. Will definitely be going back soon for an awesome experience read more

Terrible experience. I bought tickets online and had to pay $6 "convenience fee" then still had to wait in line NOT just for people buying tickets but for everyone buying snacks and drinks. I feel robbed. It's just an all around bad set up, when they could easily have someone scanning tickets for those who chose to pay online and had to pay the convenience fee. 3D glasses were not in the seat as they said, luckily we found them but alot of people had to get up and go back for them. read more

They are remodeling and it only took forever for this to happen, the seats are very comfortable they put them as recliners and when you walk into the movie program you can smell that it's all new. I finally recommend this movie theater they added a ton of new stuff but they are still remodeling read more

This is a poorly run theater. Yeah there are a lot of 'kids' working here who are nice enough, but there is _zero_ sense of urgency anywhere to be found. On my last occasion, several of us stood outside and waited to buy tickets 8-10 minutes after the box office was supposed to have opened while one of the ticket sellers went about her business 'opening' everything up. Despite all of us standing there staring at her, she couldn't take a sec to be bothered to speak to us and let us know what was going on as she wandered from place to place tweaking little things here and there. Completely disinterested and obviously uncaring for the customers who waited. This was 15 minutes before the 1st movie showing. On top of that screens are perhaps the smallest I have seen at any cinema. Stay away if you can, but unfortunately this is the only first run movie theater now in JC. read more

Ok AMC time to finally take some real ownership of this theater and give it an extreme makeover- the 1980s called and they want their theater back!!!!! The screens are decent. Overall video quality is solid but the sound can sometimes be touchy. I've been to movies where the volume is incredibly low and also when it's ear splitting loud. Seats are comfortable. They don't recline like some theaters but they're planning a remodel that will fix that. Current seats have raising arm rests and cup holders. You might run into a chair that needs some work but they're few and far between. Concessions are quite good now. Coke machines that offer a wide selection of beverages, lots of options for snacks as well as small meals (pizza, hot dogs, nachos, etc). They're also planning to bring in a bar to serve alcohol for those that want it. Overall it's a really good theater that's going to keep getting better now that it's under new ownership and they're planning to put a fair bit of money into improving things. read more

Omg the screens are so small. I have friends with bigger screens in their homes. Matinee prices are too high with no early bird specials like other theaters in the area. Hope you don't get theater #7. It always breaks. By the way who invented the ticket sales on the outside of the building? Why would you want to stand out in the cold or heat to buy your ticket. I actually like this movie theater there are not many options for theaters in Johnson City and I think this one is really nice. The staff is very helpful I love the popcorn and they always have the new movies. I go here a couple times a month. They have a popcorn bucket that you can buy, discounted tickets at certain times of the week and the chairs are pretty comfortable too. read more

Screen always says "state of the art" but this place has truly gone downhill. It is dirty looking...the mens room always has that BUS STATION smell. Just the whole place overall is NOT very well kept. read more

This is the outright worse theatre I have been to the picture is way too big for the screen wasn't no one there at the entrance to the auditoriums to recieve your tickets the bathrooms were moldy and smelled horrible on good thing about this theatre is plenty of leg room other than that there isn't anything else if I could give it a lower review it would probably get a -5 on rating if possible the screen did get wider and the picture did fit but for the size of the auditorium that is a small screen next time ill spend a little extra in gas and go to tinsel town they are cheaper anyway read more

This theater is very nice now and the movies I've seen have no problems (as in reviews from a few years back stated there were). The seats are fine and besides good popcorn, they have a computerized drink fountain where you can choose from many different sodas. Give them a chance if you live in the area or are visiting friends or relatives. read more

Average all the way around. We have had multiple strange issues watching movies here that I have never seen in other theaters. One time, the film just stopped every 10 minutes and then had to be restarted in the middle of the movie, which took about 20 minutes. The manager gave us free tickets for the next movie. So, we came back two weeks later and we had to go and remind them to turn the movie on because it was 15 minutes late and nothing was playing on the screen. With no competition, this will still be the go-to place for Johnson City residents, but with a new theater opening at The Pinnacle this fall, this place may need a facelift to keep up. read more

Ticket prices are on the high end of average - and that is the best thing I can say about the Carmike in Johnson City. Concession prices are exorbitant, the screens are the smallest around and I have been there 4 times when they "forgot" to start movies or the projector died in the middle of the movie. We have started driving the extra distance to Kingsport and Bristol to see movies. read more

This theater is always waaaay too cold. If the sound in the movie you're watching is a little low, you can hear the movies in the neighboring rooms. They do have some good ticket deals though which Is why I gave it 2 stars instead of one. read more
