There were no signs posted ANYWHERE that smoking was allowed Local laws only allow smoking in designated areas (away from non-smokers). Pretentious and expensive. No-one checks ID's. Was told to start a tab before I even tasted anything. BIG tip jar on the bar. Simple cider, served in plastic cups was $6. OMG I nearly choked. Over the years, I've visited this establishment on multiple occasions, and I've experienced subpar service on each visit. The bartenders are impersonal and act as though they couldn't care less about your overall customer experience. Also, be sure to bring cash. Otherwise, they'll keep your debit/credit card hostage, behind the bar, for the entirety of your stay. It's as if you're traveling back in time to the 90s. It's an unusually small space for this type of establishment, so it quickly becomes overcrowded. Always had a great experience until today! We brought our furry babies as we always do and they barked few times at the dogs that were passing by. We were told that our dogs were disrupting other dogs (even though there were two other dogs at the place and our dogs played with them) and were told to leave the place because of that. Great relaxed atmosphere! I don't drink beer. So, a few additional options would be great, but my friends loved their choices. You won't believe how many craft beers this tiny little place offers! Bravo for local craft beer!!! Until the last year there was no local craft beer that was served in local public establishment. Atlantic Ale House has a really great selection and everything is high quality!! As other reviewers have stated the inside portion is on the small side and thus I wonder how they will fair in the winter time. The great news is the outside is the life of Atlantic Ale. There is plenty of room and they have all kinds of games that everyone can participate in. Including Jenga with huge blocks - we were able to get it up to 5 feet befor an ear shattering end :}} There is also the local tradition corn hole. Even tho Atlantic Ale does not have a food menu there is always a great food truck outside. For foodies that love food trucks this is the perfect place to go. The food trucks are super high quality food and it is really cool to have a rotating menu -- very unique and good for the palate. I have experienced Sammies Slammers, fireinthehole and nolitruck. These are all high quality food trucks. You will never be disappointed by the choices for grub here. Small building space, but they have great beers on draft, all local, usually about 12. Options usually cover pretty much anything you'd be looking for - IPA, stout, sour, cider, ales, etc. Because it is small, the patio is covered and heated in the winter, not warm, but worth sitting in for a few pints, just wear your coat in! They have a food truck, but you have to go outside, around the corner to order and pickup. read more

Cozy indoor seating, patio seating and tons of picnic tables in gravel outside overlooking the beautiful expanse that is King Commons Park. Always a food truck parked next door. What is most disappointing is that our last few visits the prices for a pour have completely gotten out of control. It better be the nectar of the gods from the fountain of youth for $10 or $12!!! They were not helpful and acted like it was an inconvenience to serve us . With so many breweries , and pubs in the area , this place better amp up their game if they want to stay in business . In many other cities with more than one craft beer bar this wouldn't be a 5 star review due to its cramped interior space, inefficient ordering protocol, tiny bathrooms, and restricted beer styles to SE region only. However, it's by far the best place in JC to get a good pint, chill outside and enjoy some tasty food trucks. Bonus points for backing up to a new park. It's clean, has an INCREDIBLE roster of regional beers (16 taps plus the occasional cask) and a steady rotation of fantastic food trucks. Great in concept. I want this place to work. Very cramped at 6pm on a Saturday night. Really only seats around 30 people! Nice look and feel. Poor customer service... Its as if none of the "bartenders" (really just pouring beer here) have ever worked a crowded bar before. Impossible to get served even with 3 of them behind the tiny bar. I will check in again here in a month and see if there is any improvement. I want this place to work as JC needs a spot like this. read more

Came here with friends Friday evening because Fire in the Hole food truck was setup next to the Ale House serving pizza. The pizza is delicious, and I love that the food trucks rotate on different days. They have a calendar on the wall of the different food trucks that come each day of the week since the Ale House only serves beverages. I would actually give Atlantic Ale House 5 stars but there is one tiny problem that could be easily fixed and they refuse/ don't care. I travel for my sales job with lots of overnights. I don't want to sit in my hotel room alone but I have a lot of work to do online. Its fun to have a great draught beer while I work. Forget it! They have a wifi network but will not let me have the login info. I have asked several times. Atlantic Ale House is exactly my kind of place. I would hang out there exclusively when in Johnson City.
