I went to this theater earlier this morning (District 9 was awesome!), and I was pretty pleased with it. I was skeptical based on other reviews, and based on its attachment to Liberty Tree which I wouldn't exactly call a "high class venue". Their early morning special on Saturdays and Sundays was great, only $6. A lot of reviews have questioned this theater based on the amount of local teens trolling the place, but since I went to a 10 am showing on a Saturday, it was pretty empty. The screening room itself as well as the rest of the theater were clean and free of trash (possibly just because it was so early). The staff were also quite friendly, the ticket counter cashier and the ticket checker were very polite. The projection quality was excellent, as well as the sound system. The projector itself was a little noisy if you sit in the back row, but you dont notice once the movie comes on. They also have a few DLP screens as well as a number of 3D films, so a good selection all around. Overall I would definitely recommend this theater on off-hours, it was very pleasant and quiet, and the ticket special was great. I cant speak for peak times as this was my first time, but I probably will stick with other reviewers and not risk it. read more

AMC Liberty Tree Mall 20 - Pretzels - Cinema Near Me - Danvers, Massachusetts

All they did here to freshen this AMC Theater up was put a fresh face on a dirty nasty theater. The IMAX in this place still has old ratty uncomfortable seats with no leg room and a cement floor? This is probably one of the poorest looking IMAX Theaters I have ever visited. I mean I could feel the springs through the seats thats how bad this place was. Plus its located inside dumpy Liberty Tree Mall which is a dump and probably one of weirdest, scariest malls in Eastern Mass. At one time this mall used to be a normal working mall, but now it is full of shuttered stores and vacant spaces and is a dumpy place with really just Best Buy and AMC IMAX holding the place together. It is run by Simon properties which in its own right is having a heck of a time retaining surviving malls, many which are closing or being demolished. Lets face facts, the days of the indoor shopping mall are over and it is a thing of the 80's/early 90's. Its all about outdoor shopping plazas with courtyards and fancy landscaping. They should just close this dump since it is on its last legs now. When you walk in and see a cell phone case store and a junky art store as your featured stores, its time to be done with the place. Horrible dead ghetto dump. The food court in this dump has a Sushi stand which is even more scary. read more

The bartender at MacGuffins Bar and Lounge - while at first seemed quite pleasant, turned into the worse bartender I've ever encountered. I stopped there with a friend for a drink or two after a movie & within the first 10 minutes of receiving our FIRST round he promptly approached us to inquire if we wanted to cash out our tab or if we'd be ordering another round. My drink was 3/4 full so I looked at it, looked at him, swirled it a little in front of him as if to say, little early to be deciding whether I'll be ordering another. He did this 3 more times in the span of 1 hour. Truthfully I would've liked to stay for one last drink but with his incessant harrassment, I had to leave. Of note, this was around 5:30, 6pm on a Sunday. It was dead. During the time we were there, about 3 or 4 people came and went. He wasn't finishing his shift, as some bartenders will let you know they need to settle tab up during a shift change. I don't know if he was new to this industry but he was TERRIBLE. I'll never go there again when he's there. read more

The movies here are not projected properly. Even a scene taking place ON A RUNWAY at NOON looks like it was shot in a dim room. It's almost certain this is because they use reduced power setting on the projectors to save on bulb replacement. You can read online about theaters doing this to save money. You can also read people like Martin Scorsese and Roger Ebert calling them out on it for ruining movies. What can you do? STAY HOME. Why pay a fortune to see a murky-looking movie when you can see it in a much better presentation for a lot less at home? If they want to save money they could turn down the AC, which is painfully cold. This is a garbage experience, and I'm someone who used to see 18 movies a year. Once I use up my gift card I'm never coming back. read more

I love the theater. I thoroughly enjoy going to see a movie either by myself or with a friend. I went to this particular theater last night to see "Mama Mia 2" and it was a decent experience. The theater itself was very clean, the seats were clean, and the theater is huge! I absolutely loved the theater itself. However, the bathroom was absolutely disgusting! Paper towels were all over the floor, the odor was horrendous, and the floor was sticky. Not at all acceptable. Also, the butter station and the drink station were dirty as well. Trash over the counters, butter and soda all over the counters, no straws to be found, and ran out of Diet Coke in 5 out of the 6 machines. I finally found one machine that had Diet Coke. Overall, I highly recommend the theater itself! Dirty in the lobby and bathrooms, but just go to the restroom at home before attending the movie. read more

Well the finally did it! They gutted the place! New well maintained (for the time being anyway) reclining chairs that look like that are wiped down on a regular basis. No one behind you kicking your chair and no fat heads in front of you! Sound and picture quality is 5 star. My only caveat is the bathroom looks like a bit of a war zone with over flowing trash and the inside of the stalls need to be wiped down. I don't like hanging my handbag on a hook when the door is smeared with greasy fingerprints underneath it. I broke my foot last month and spent a few days lounging here watching moves because I needed to keep it elevated and it was a great alternative to sitting home! read more

What a waste of time. I came over to see a film this afternoon and there was only ONE staff person at the ticket counter! The kiosks were completely out of paper and not accepting purchases. I MISSED my Film because the ticket line was at a stand still. I will NEVER spend money at an AMC theatre again. read more

This place is the worst. It's so understaffed that the lines are painfully long even on a sunny Monday morning. The staff they do have is nasty, rude, slow, and utterly incompetent. The bathrooms are barely functioning- there are always sinks and stalls closed and good luck finding one that has been flushed or cleaned in the last 24 hours. Popcorn is always stale, soda machines always empty, and they don't clean the theaters between movies. It's just GROSS. Sticky filthy slow and just awful experience all around. Too bad it's the only show in town. The only reason I go here at all, but I find myself driving further and further to see movies now just to avoid the place whenever I can. read more

I try to avoid this theater if I can. Sometimes it is playing the film I wanna see and it's not anywhere else. Staff is uninterested to the point that I have been sent to the wrong theater. One time I bought a tix on my phone for mobile tickets and they couldn't use it because they system was "broken" and while searching for a scanner he wouldn't give me my phone back that the ticket was on. Service is crazy slow and compared to other AMC theaters, this one is pretty bad. read more

Chose this movie theater because the show times were more convenient than others. Clean enough movie theater, but the seats have not been updated/do not recline. Since this is an AMC and I would've paid the same price for a ticket at an AMC with seats that DO recline, was a little disappointed. I hate that this is the closest movie theater to me. They are in the middle of re doing the theater and yet they aren't fixing the disgusting seats that are over 20 years old. They are also now assigning seats. Yet no one seems to know what the hell their doing with the new seating structure. Not only that it's infested with mice. My wife and I saw two mice run by as we were walking in. I don't get the point of doing these renovations if they are not replacing the seats and they are keeping the same old gross arm rest. I gave it three stars because if you come at the right time and for the right movie, in the right theater it's an ok experience. I saw Solo: A Star Wars Story on fan night and it was in the IMAX theater. What a disaster, the seats were disgusting and the theater smelled like old stale popcorn and my seat was broken. Luckily it was relatively empty but all the seats were filthy. The girl at the concession stand was rude. I was standing in the Premium line and she wouldn't wait on me so I moved to the regular line, now there was no one at this point in either line and she just had to take one step to the right. Anyway I walked around to the other line and asked her to scan my AMC card and she told me it was too late because she already rang up my drink and she didn't realize I was an AMC card member. Yet she looked at me standing in the Premiere line. How rude, I've never had them not scan my card. It's the little things, but they add up. It's definitely a hit or miss situation. If you get the "leather" recliners it is a pretty good experience. read more

I am really mad about this theater. Not only is it mediocre at best, now I find out the staff have a page on Facebook where they tell "funny" stories mocking the customers. If you're on Facebook, just look up AMC LIberty Tree 20 and see how they really feel. They're overpriced, rude and don't seem able to maintain the facility. What a waste. Initially impressed with the decor of the theater lobby ( classic, art deco) I thought it was going to be a great viewing experience. Wrong! I walk up to to the ticket counter and the clerk says, yes the theater is clean and all set to receive patrons. OK... I would want to know his definition of clean? The theater reeked of urine and stale popcorn. There was trash littered everywhere. Most of the seats had stains. My companion and I had to scan a lot aisles, checking for the cleanest seat. We found decent seats. Luckily the theater was empty. As for the the quality of the audio and visual, it was not good. I will never return here. read more

The staff tried to steal my Khols gifts I left behind by hiding them in their trash. It's an old trick. You don't turn it in to management...you hide it and wait until late until people have left and then you bring it to your car. They lie and say someone stole it but the staff hid it in trash. If you show up in person and there are 6 people ahead of you in line, prepare to wait at least 20 minutes and to then deal with a rude "customer service" person. Once you get into the theater you will be subject to at least 7 previews shown at ear-splitting volume. Most of them will have nothing to do with the movie you are there to watch. If you're there for a feel-good movie, you will be have to sit through violence. If you need to visit the restroom after the movie it will most likely be filthy. This is a good movie theater, bigger and with a better atmosphere than the ones close to me. The price is a little high to someone coming from NH (tickets at the movie theater near my house are $7.50, here they are $10), but I go with my boyfriend and he is a sweetheart and usually pays! I will warn you about one thing however...if going on a Friday or Saturday night, which most people do, it's going to be overflowing with middle school aged kids. Now I'm a teenager too, but an older one and I'm getting to the age where I'm starting to get annoyed with younger kids. We had to leave a PG13 movie recently because of all the talking, cell phone calls, and other disturbances when a group of 8th graders took up 4 rows in the theater. For adult movies however, I would definitely recommend AMC at the Liberty Tree. read more

Now here's the thing, I love going to the movies. Even with the six dollar for a small bag of metzametz popcorn. Last Saturday afternoon, my significant other were spending an all day date together. One of the things on our list was to go see a movie. I got to pick. So, after spending some much needed time by the sea, we arrived at AMC theater. Because we were so early, we got our tickets for the four fifteen showing of A Walk in the Woods. First off, we go to the ticket counter and the person who greeted us, and I use that term very loosely, asked us which movie we wanted to see. We specifically stated the four fifteen showing of A Walk in the Woods. After getting our tickets, I did mention to my guy, "If you don't want to work here, why do you work here?" That was the impression that this young woman gave us. We walked the mall a bit until it was time to enter the movie theater. First we stopped to get our popcorn. My guy was a little perturbed about the cost of the teeny, tiny bag of popcorn, but I reminded him that we were on a date, and that shouldn't matter. Then we entered theater 19 which was on our ticket and the nice ticket man pointed us in the direction with a smile I might add. Sooo, now we sit through endless commercials and trailers and notices waiting to see our date movie. FINALLY the movie starts..............my guy turns to me and asks who was supposed to be in our movie. I remind him that Robert Redford and Nick Nolte were the stars.....he says that those names were nowhere in the beginning of this movie. With that he steps out into the light to read the movie that was on our tickets. A VISIT..............that was what was on our tickets....well I have to tell you..........if we had missed a lot of the movie that we really wanted to see, I would have been extremely upset. That only thing that saved the day, is that my guy was smart enough to figure out we were in the wrong movie. I don't normally complain about things like this, but I am disappointed that there isn't better customer service when you pay so much money for entertainment. I will probably go back to that theater, but if I see that particular employee, I will go to another ticket window.... What ever happened to the good old days, when people liked their jobs? And if they didn't they looked for something else. read more

standard, cookie-cutter multiplex theater. You could be anywhere. No character and the ticket sellers tend to be on the surly side. Give me a theater with more of an individual character like the Cabot in Beverly or in town (Coolidge Corner, Kendall). Also, bargain matinees are hardly a bargain anymore. If I could give them minus 5 stars I would. Went Father's Day with the kids. After waiting over a half hour in line for popcorn I found they oversold the seats and we couldn't see the movie. Waited in line again for replacement tickets. We had to wait 1 1/2 hours for the next show. The entire place looked like wild animals ran through it. There was like piles of trash 4 feet high outside of every theater. The concession stand was dirty. I guess no one wanted to take the garbage out??? The theater itself was dirty from the last show. And trailers are now 30 minutes of ads along with upcoming shows. The staff are all teens who really couldn't care less about customer service. I spent like $80 to be treated horribly. Nice job AMC It's just time for everyone to stop going to the movies until it becomes a decent place again. These guys are making huge money .... They can do a lot better. read more

On one hand i like the new seats because now people can not KICK the back of your seat or put thier feet behind your ear. However the new seats are too thin and the theater now has LESS seats so shows get sold out. You need a microscope to see seating numbers. read more

I enjoy this movie theatre very much. You can walk around and shop, while you wait for your movie to begin or visa versa. It is a clean theatre and one of my favorite ones in Massachusetts. Also at this mall you can park your car near the theatre door instead of at the mall main entrance. The pricing is higher than some of the other movie theatres, but it does not bother me. This movie theatre is also squeekie clean and wide open atmopshere feeling. Excellent. read more

Had some free tickets to an AMC movie theater, though I prefer the Showcase Cinema in Revere, and decided to take advantage and check out a flick. (Ratatouille- fun for foodies and families alike) As always, there was a line to buy tickets going back to the entrance. There was another long line at the snack stand that crawled at a snails pace. The ticket taker was fun. He gave everyone his personal review or some crazy anecdote about each different movie. (He gave ours 2 thumbs up.) The theater itself was large with comfy stadium style seating, however, it didn't look like it had been cleaned in the past few showings. I did enjoy the pre-previews trivia though. read more
