We were given gift cards for Christmas to go to the Mario movie, and that is why/how we attended. I purchased the tickets online, so that made getting to our movie seamless. The movie prices, plus the fee for paying online were quite expensive, and will likely prevent me for going to more movies in the future. However, we really enjoyed the movie - the chairs were very comfortable, and the picture quality was great. The ads were VERY loud - we all plugged our ears for all of them. Thankfully, the movie was quieter. The employees that we encountered were both friendly and helpful. Since we planned to go out to dinner afterward, we did not try any food. GIRL. What the what? I forgot I was in Edina because since when were things so rundown and nasty here? I'm happy people are still coming to the movie theatre (it was packed - the line was so long it took about 30 minutes to get through) I'm thankful we arrived early so we could get our drinks before movie time. The drink dispensers typically have lids, straws and cups in between each machine, the holders were there but no straws or lids, we asked someone working where to get a straw and with an attitude he responded "right at the counter where you got your cup" well sorry sir that we did not see that through the sea of people after being handed our cup and lid. Saw Fall 2 at AMC Southdale 16 (Minnesota) and now I understand why people stop going to the movies I'm an A-List member who lives in Los Angeles, where I'm lucky to be near some of AMC's best-maintained theaters. I typically go to the Burbank 16, where the projection and sound are consistently excellent. While visiting family in Minnesota, I took my mom to see *Fall 2* at AMC Southdale 16 in Edina. The image had no depth or color, looked completely out of focus, and the sound was not properly synchronized. The presentation was unacceptable. It looked worse than something playing on a $299 Walmart TV. This l location opened decades ago, and it is clear that its projection technology has not been upgraded to meet modern standards. When theaters projected movies on 35mm film, the fundamental technology did not become obsolete as quickly. In today's digital environment, where sharp 4K displays, HDR, and excellent contrast have become commonplace at home, theaters cannot continue using aging digital projectors and expect people to pay for an inferior experience. I love going to AMC, but if this were my local theater, I would not come back. I want theaters to thrive and remain the best place to experience movies, but when this is what customers receive, I completely understand why they would rather stay home. What makes this even more frustrating is that AMC has no meaningful customer-service channel for reporting problems like this. If customers leave disappointed and never return, how is AMC supposed to know why attendance is falling? I will return back to Los Angeles and continue going to AMC, but this is my mom's last time going. She thought it looked like shit. read more

Date night + a movie checks all the boxes. I like that you can order a cocktail or two at a show. My only complaint: the seats don't fully recline, despite having a button labeled as such. It's more like 1/4 recline, and is borderline uncomfortable, especially as the evening progressed. Another quick observation: this theater is pretty dirty. On a Saturday afternoon, the parking spots can be limited, but there are spaces around the mall and the distance is not too far. There wasn't a long line to check in. The theaters have nice reclining seats, they don't go fully recline which is nice if you need to walk in the aisle. The theater actually didn't feel too cold, but I would still plan to wear some extra layers. After the movie they asked for a survey that is a little long to fill out. read more

AMC Southdale: A Good Choice for a Movie (4 Stars) My trip to AMC Southdale for the new Lilo & Stitch was a nice time. Overall this is a good theater to see the new releases. The seats were definitely the highlight. Being able to sit back and sink into the seats was a big plus. The service was also good. Friendly and helpful staff. But like most movie theaters, AMC Southdale falls into the trap of overpriced concessions. Be prepared to spend a bit more than you think on snacks and drinks. It's a budget item for sure. Getting movie merchandise was a bit of a challenge but it all worked out in the end. Maybe the theater could improve the availability or visibility of movie merchandise. Pro tip: if you want to relax more, go on a weekday before the evening rush. You'll find a smaller and less crowded audience and can really get into the movie. In short, AMC Southdale is a good movie experience. Concessions are a bit pricey and merchandise acquisition could be smoother but the seats and staff are good. read more

The theaters are all pretty straight forward. Nice. Concessions are good, nice quality, hot things are hot and they have the pick one million different soda flavor machines -- but two big problems. At 6:30 pm on a Friday night, I ordered French fries. There was no line. It took 25 minutes to come out. I can tell you the exact times since my receipt had a time stamp. I ended up missing the beginning of our movie bc of this. I don't think most people would expect fries to take so long. If the cashiers had mentioned it to me, I would have chosen something else. You can order ahead when you buy your tickets online. We've done this! But the website defaults for your order to be ready at the EXACT TIME YOUR MOVIE STARTS. I have not figured out how to change this, although I haven't tried very hard. But since I stood there for 25 minutes, I can tell you I saw at least a half dozen people be surprised by the idea that their food wasn't ready when they arrived. The staff handled it all very calmly, but I do wonder if this is an easily fixable problem. read more

I was sad to see how this huge theater is going downhill... I went to 3 films here in the past month and the concessions are WAY more than they ever have been! I paid $16 for a peanut M&M's and a regular fountain soda! When I went to the machines... many of them were out of the flavors (Coca-Cola machines that have all the combos) and the ones that said they were there... were out or had an off flavor... do they have tap lines to clean? We came to attend a Monday matinee of The Odyssey. Pros: The theater was clean and the seats reclined just fine. It was easy to buy tickets online and just show the bar code to the ticket taker. Cons: We sat through 30 minutes of ads followed by many previews. I would never show up early again, because I don't feel I should have to sit through all those ads when I have paid to attend. Someone in the audience was eating French fries with a lot of ketchup and smell was distracting. We thought the sound system was a bit too loud, especially during the epic action scenes. I would consider bringing earplugs next time. Three stars out of five. read more

We had a really good experience here during our group visit to see Wicked! Tickets are WILDLY expensive for the fancy theater, but honestly the Dolby + nice screen + reclining leather seats is worth the splurge for a movie you're really excited about. I think we paid nearly $20 per ticket? Anything for Wicked! I love being able to purchase in advance and get assigned seats. The leather reclining seats were amazing, and they even vibrated with the incredible Dolby sound! The check in process went smoothly, and while there was a wait for concessions, it was understandable for the first weekend of Wicked. I liked the photo op they had for the movie too! It's nice that they have a good amount of parking, and mall parking ramp too. Overall a bit pricey, but really nice amenities for the cost - be sure to check which amenities you want and choose the right theater when you're booking tickets online! read more

A good theater, but not one of the Twin Cities' best. The projectors are consistent in quality. The IMAX has warmed up to me recently even if it's not the perfect aspect ratio. Great seats. They also have Dolby theater with great sound, but almost no leg room. The rest of their theaters are a mixed bag. I like theaters 1-4 for a small independent or art house movie. Unfortunately, the lobby is almost always filthy with spills and popcorn all over. The seats are the worst recliners in the Twin Cities and barely go back. read more

This theater was disgusting. The bathrooms were dirty and very smelly. Bugs were crawling around. Toilet paper was all over the floors. There was popcorn all over the main lobby The floor in the theater where I sat looked like someone spilt an entire icee on the floor. It was so sticky. Seats were very uncomfortable and slanted forward. Trash cans were over flowing. We spent $20 X 3 to see an imax movie and I will never go back to this theater again. This location needs to up their game. Tickets are expensive, almost $20 while snacks will cost another $20 per person. The theater was honestly dirty, the soda area was covered in popcorn much like the floor. The restrooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned all day (we went to an evening showing). Once inside our theater I found the seats to be uncomfortable. The seats are smaller than other nearby options and they do not fully recline. To spend $40 a person for a ticket, popcorn and a drink you better be leaving feeling like you enjoyed your experience. Instead I left and vowed to not come back. I feel like this theater is honestly just getting by and that sucks because pretty soon it is going to close and we'll lose another space in the community to hangout and enjoy time away from work/home. This might be the dirtiest theater I have been to. So dirty in fact that my wife doesn't go to the theater anymore and I only go if it's empty enough that I can find an open clean seat if my assigned seat is dirty. We are talking popcorn on every chair, sticky substance on the arm rests, kids ring pops stuck in the coasters along with trash. This is a reoccurring problem that I have come to expect at this establishment. The worst was when I went to get popcorn before a late night movie and the kids working had friends chatting with them off to the side while the employee picked UP a vacuum and proceeded to VACCUM THE COUNTER! I could visibly see dust flying at shoulder level all over the food in the area. What a shame. I know years ago I was excited about the seats being upgraded to recliners but they are SUPER uncomfortable. I avoid going to this theater now at all cost (but had a free screening to see a movie that was only playing at 2 Mn locations). My back hurts so bad from how these chairs partially recline but even if you sit the chair regularly it's still a bit uncomfortable. Also they should shut down for a day or so and do a deep clean. Don't trust ordering from concessions with how messy everything is. read more

Going to a movie theater in a busy mall always poses its own issues - parking being my number one. Finding parking is tough, even for a mid-day showing, but once you're in it's a fairly simple process. If you buy tickets ahead of time (like we did) you have to all be present to get scanned in. That was pretty inconvenient since all parties arrived at slightly different times. It would've been nice to have some of the earlier arrivals grab the snacks and find the seats. Seats were comfy and plush in the theater, but they don't lay back anywhere close to reclining. That was a bummer since we were closer to the screen. I had to still watch with neck tilted up, and ended up with a sore neck and back by the end of the movie. Snacks were good - refillable if you get the large sizes, but I would opt for a different theater with better parking and fully reclining seats. read more

Okay experience at AMC Southdale. It's connected to a mall which is good for shopping or food options before your movie but makes parking tricky, despite there being a big lot. The check in process was easy (we purchased tickets ahead of time) and finding our theater and seats was easy due to many employees showing the way. The theater was well cleaned when we arrived. Corporate needs to address some critical issues that require immediate attention. If there aren't enough staff members to maintain cleanliness in your facilities, perhaps the solution is to reduce the number of showings or have corporate personnel step in to clean the building between viewings and repair broken furniture. My recent experience was disappointing; I had to sit on chairs caked with candy and popcorn. The cup holders were sticky and the floor was painted with smashed food. The garbage cans were overflowing. This level of neglect was evident from the moment I walked in until I finally settled into my seat. Ugh. This is AMC location is horrible. I visited this location twice during this Memorial Day weekend, and it was bad. Now, the AMC employees at this location are super friendly and professional. However, the place is so filthy. Some theatre seats have popcorn n trash. The trash bins inside the theatres are over-filled. The concession stand is dirty and needs to be wiped down including the soda machines too. I've been coming here over the past 7 years and it's been slowly going downhill. This place is feeling sadly run down and understaffed, like so many of the other theaters in the area. Setting aside the obvious pass due to the damage COVID did to the theater industry, it's really hard to understand how nearly every picture house in the metro looks like a bomb exploded inside. Empty popcorn bins, dated and faded lobby finishes, long lines for concessions (that have somehow increased to eye-watering levels), and just...popcorn and trash everywhere. The Dolby at Southdale is the best in the city since the IMAX at the Zoo shut down but I don't know that I can justify going out of the way to this AMC vs. Rosedale or the Icon in St Louis Park (both of which are also far cries of their former selves the last few times I went). Still, it was an improvement in terms of theater-goer etiquette at the very least, which was a welcome change to the vaping, cell phones at full brightness, and talking I've encountered at Rosedale far too often. And the recliners are always welcome. But then there were the four Coke Freestyle machines that had completely flat or unmixed Coke Zero and the vast majority of other flavors sold out. And the bathrooms in a horrific state...and the overflowing trash bins almost everywhere. Maybe it was an off night, but I'm thinking perhaps not. The movies were hit hard the last three years and maybe I'm looking back at the pre-COVID cinema-going experience with rose-tinted glasses, but it just doesn't feel like the fun it used to be. It used to be a pleasant theatre to go to but now it is filthy, rarely your seat will recline (or is sticky) and they are out of soda or some snack they should have in stock. The only good thing about this place is the sweet bartender with long dark hair that works on the weekend when I want a beer or glass of wine for my movie. AMC should be absolutely ashamed. I am cancelling my "A List" membership as soon as I can because there is nothing grade "A" about this. I'd rather go to the B&B theatres at the MOA...and that's saying a lot.
