This is a fun sports bar type place with a rustic interior that matches the outside. Old motorcycles are placed around the restaurant, along with metal buffalo sculptures. I stopped by for dinner on a Tuesday and it was pleasantly busy. My server Addison was right there to answer questions about the menu. I (of course) ordered the Reuben and three sides. I expected the sides to be small and I was surprised at how large they were. And they all were outstanding. The onion rings were large, thick, and crispy. A side order has about a dozen rings. The crock of mac & cheese has a delightful kick and when I asked Addison about it she said they make it with their queso. The bowl of Cowboy beans also has a kick and a nice smokiness. While I was eating, both managers - Amy and Jeff - stopped by to see how I was enjoying my meal, which was nice. Finally, the Reuben. I was pleased to see the corned beef was shredded but unfortunately it was very dry and tough. I wanted to cut one half into two pieces but I couldn't with my table knife. The flavor was good, the marble rye nicely grilled. It could have used a LOT more sauerkraut because the meat:kraut ratio was meat heavy. For some reason my partner likes to fly back into MN late at night, and there aren't really many places open past 11pm that serve food that quells the munchies, but Cowboy Jacks is one of them. It's definitely a bit dark inside but it fits the mood of a typical bar. I never come here for the bar-life atmosphere, so I won't comment on that but I do enjoy the food they serve for happy hour. Came here on the most lovely Tuesday evening date night to play darts and boy oh boy did it deliver exactly what we were looking for! Not super crowded, fairly easy and quick to get a drink and the bathrooms are right in the front area (perfect location). Drinks were perfectly fine, no complaints at all. Darts in the back area with some other random games and we were able to play a few games uninterrupted which was perfect for the vibe of the night. This is specific to the Bloomington (Southtown Drive) location. I wanted to give it five stars.....BUT.... First the positive. The staff is just amazing. I could write an entire review naming all the individual security, door people, servers, managers, and bartenders that are all top notch but it's basically everyone! I mean they do a tough job but always professional and with a smile and even when they are slammed busy the servers and bartenders and security are still very polite and professional. On weekends the music / DJ can be hit or miss. I've been there with some amazingly great DJ's playing and dance floor packed and other nights....well not so much. The food and appetizers there are really good. In six plus years of me going there I've heard ONE person a single time make one semi-negative comment about their food. It was that he thought his hamburger was a little greasy. He still ate the entire meal, he just said that after. Every other person I've seen for more than half a decade eating there has been happy or thrilled with their meal or appetizer! The pool, darts, video games area gets busy and good crowd. The pool and dart machines are usually in good shape and busy. As far as the negative, the drink prices are on the high side ($7 for a domestic bottled beer, and a Vodka drink is $12 or more). I know several people who quit going there because drinks got too expensive. The second issue, is the carpet in the pool and dart area that is worn down to the padding and is sticky to walk on which is not an attractive quality for a food service establishment. If I had the owners/GM's ear I'd say you get a high five and pat on the pack for hiring great staff all around, doing a wonderful job on the food. I'd encourage you to lower drink prices and put in some new carpet in the gaming area. read more

The service was prompt and the food came out hot - and almost too fast for us. The cornbread with cinnamon honey butter was AMAZING, as were the deep fried pickles. On Tuesday's you can get a 2lb bucket of wings for $10. The potato skins are great and their flatbreads are a good deal too (the chicken pesto is one of my favorites). I would pass on the hot dish and queso as they are on the blander side. Service can be slow during peak times but the staff is friendly. Just finished a meal at the Bloomington location. Ordered a Rueben and it was possibly the worst sandwich I've ever attempted to eat. The corned beef, if you can call it that, was dry and stingy. We all decided to get the same thing: The Prairie Fire Burger. We all requested "pink", as the choices are "pink" and "no pink". Well, our burgers were not pink at all and there was no flavor other than the buffalo sauce. There are a lot of toppings on this burger, yet there is no flavor to this thing. Couldn't even taste anything from the meat. This meal was not worth the price, outside of the wings. No reason to come back. We may go back to the one at MOA, though I really hate MOA. read more

I love visiting for drinks, but recently visited for dinner. A group of 6 of us visited for dinner on Wednesday which happens to be $3 burger night. The waitress served two of the six meals and the others had to watch us eat until the other meals were served. One person in our party didn't get his meal until very last once two of the people in the party were already done eating. Two of the meals were served incorrectly and one of us never got the baked potato until the end too because that was forgotten about. I had asked for additional silverware as there were not enough provided and that had been forgotten after asking for it. Graham the manager stopped at our table and I told him we asked for silverware and still did not receive it and told him we were waiting on a meal still and told him about how many things were messed up. We landed late and didn't have many options because most places close by 9PM. Ended up here and it was pretty cool, you just grab a seat wherever. The food was actually really good, which was a nice surprise. I love cornbread, so I had to try it, but it was more like cake than cornbread and fell apart when you cut it. I'm from out of town and come to the Twin Cities a couple times a year. I've been wanting to visit Cowboy Jacks for a while now. Glad we finally made it. Food was exactly what we wanted and expected. Wife had the Sloppy Cowboy Jack which she said was really good and she would get again and I got the Nashville Hot Chicken ( or something like that). It was really good and pretty hot. I was in Bloomington after a long day of work. Just wanted a good steak dinner, a bed, and a flight home the next day. " Cowboy Jacks", sounds like it could be a steak house, right? No. I was in shock. It's a really nice looking restaurant, very large, western motif, sounds like steak so far. Multiple bars, high top tables made from barrels. Ok, I'm seated and a waitress, and a young one at that comes over. After looking over the menu, all I see are burgers, appetizers, wraps, but no steak. This lovely waitress flips the menu to the back where I see a rib-eye, a NY Strip Steak, and a Sock Eye Salmon. So I ask, any steak specials? She explains, " this is a bar", but we have burger specials ". Isn't this the Mid-West? Give me the NY Strip Steak please. So in spite of being fooled the steak was very good. Temperature perfect, tender, and flavorful. Comes with broccoli, and and cauliflower rice. Just a note, yes I try to eat healthy but this cauliflower rice? Enough already. Let's go back to real rice. So n the end, although I was confused at first it wasn't bad. Now when I'm in the area again would I eat there? Felt like they were secretly trying to sneak a service charge under guise of sales tax. To be clear, they did not say this is the MN thing city restaurants here do. They claimed pure local sales tax. Second, burgers. Menu claims is half pound. But when came out, was third pound looking. See pic and decide for self. Also took 30 minutes to come out after ordering. Third, apps tasted like cooked from frozen or prepared earlier. Just don't taste fresh to me. The locations I've been to in WI are much better. Real thick burgers. Food tastes fresher.
