Dexter's in Edina is such a vibe. The interior is gorgeous and super aesthetic... perfect for a night out. You have to get the burger; it lived up to the hype, and the beef tallow fries are a total game-changer (definitely go for those over the chips). We also tried the fish and chips, which was solid, and the martinis and drinks were great. The service was really sweet, though things moved a little slow. This place is an absolute gem! I heard they were sort of elevated bar food and that's exactly what they are, but I didn't think you could make classic bar food taste this good! We went with a small group and although we did order apps and then dinner after, the service was extremely slow. I think they had just opened their patio and were maybe a bit short staffed as it took almost 45 minutes for our second round of drinks, and food took a while as well. We were there for maybe 2.5 hours and the table next to us turned over a couple times during, so maybe just bad luck. That being said, I will absolutely be back. The food was way too good not to! There's also some TVs in the place to watch sports but it's not overwhelming with TVs. So you can still peak at the game while it not feeling like people are there only to watch sports. The service was amazing from the host to the very end of dinner. It was a very kid friendly place with lots of families dining in. We went on a Saturday and there was happy hour all day. The best thing was the chocolate gelato. It was an intense chocolate flavor with nice crunch of hazelnuts. Cauliflower cacio e Pepe was a little overcooked for me that the cauliflower didn't really have a bite. The steak frites had a little smoky flavor, I think it just lack some flavor. We went here to celebrate a birthday. The hostess was very kind and grabbed us an extra table since we had a couple more people added on to our reservation. Service was great, our waitress was attentive and explained the menu to us. We were happy to find out they had all day happy hour on Sundays so we ordered pretty much everything on the happy hour menu. Everything was pretty good except some items were kind of salty or not much flavor. Brussel sprouts were delicious! Cauliflower was loaded with cheese, it was just ok. Chicken wings were salty, wish there was some other sauce to go with it, the sauce it came with didn't have much flavor to complement it. There was not a lot of cinnamon flavor coming through. The caviar was just ok, we were expecting more from it but we also don't eat caviar ever so not sure if that's just the norm. Oysters were small but decent. They were fresh. The sauce that came with it was not delicious, plain Tabasco and lemon would've been better. Cheese curds were crispy and hot! Delicious! Salmon tartare was just ok. The bread was not crisp and didn't add much to the flavor. I didn't love it. Our group does not drink regularly so we tried the non alcoholic snowbird and it wasn't really for me. Others in the group liked it. It still tasted "strong" even though it's non alcoholic. My main was the elote burger and it was probably the best thing I had there. Others in the group said it wasn't for them but they don't normally order that type of stuff. There was so much flavor and I loved the corn. The chipotle mayo was the perfect amount of spice for me. My kids enjoyed their burger and fries and chicken strips and fries. They ate the whole plate! The steak frites are good, tender and flavorful. Wish there was more of it for the price. The gelato was free for celebrating a birthday and it was delicious! Overall it was a great atmosphere and we had great service. I watched a college football game here with a couple buddies and it was a real blast. Great beers on tap, big tvs but a nice, luxurious atmosphere. The seats are comfy, the tables are hard wood and the bathrooms are still top notch. I really enjoyed the overall vibe and burger, but I noticed they'd taken off the triple onion burger. That burger was one of my absolute favorites and I missed it so much which is unfortunately why I had to take a star away because please bring it back it's not the same without it !! Also a nice big screen TV to see college football on a Saturday was a plus. The Caprese toast (for 2 people max) and roasted cauliflower Parmesan cream (good sized portion) appetizers were pretty good. The fried chicken thigh sandwich was very good, but also pretty spicy with the Sereno slaw. It comes with chips but for $4 you can substitute for fries (putting the sandwich with fries at $21). The bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich (only $12) was also very good and comes with chips. The bacon in the sandwich was perfectly cooked and had an exceptional flavor. Service was friendly and helpful, but not very attentive. The iced tea is really delicious but comes in a small glass and it was very difficult to get refills when needed. It was also a pretty long wait between our starters and our entrées despite only a few people at the restaurant. Guess you can't be in too much of a hurry on a Saturday. read more

The happy hour here is amazing! We went on a Thursday evening and easily got a table, but the patio filled up by 6:30. The cheese curds were tasty, but the orange cheese powder dusting was unexpected. The salmon tartare and cinnamon wings were great. Both were full of flavor, meaty, salty, juicy, hot, soft bun, crispy pickle...I got what I needed. The waffle appetizer with trout roe was good, but I'd skip the $5 add on roe. The waffle and sour cream overpowered the roe, but the waffle and sour cream its self was a great balance of fried and fresh. The decor was modern, open space, bright. It was nice. My friend and I chose this new to us spot on 50th. They have their own parking lot which was a plus in my book. We arrived at 220pm on Saturday and were seated almost immediately and started perusing the menu. The host came back over and told us the brunch menu was actually going until 3 so we chose a breakfast sandwich and shakshuka. Both items were great and had a lot of flavor. (The shakshuka could use more sauce) but the bread and veggies were wonderful. We sat and chatted for hours and were very well taken care of. We dropped into Dexters at 5:00 for a bite and several cocktails. I was underwhelmed by the decor and surprised that a Del Prado restaurant would be so blah. Browns and beiges dominate, and the space looks like an old elementary school with some kitchen and restaurant equipment shoved into it. We sat at the Formica bar, ordered drinks from the young staff, and checked out the American food menu. I stuck to the happy hour choices and fell in love with the potato waffles. The chicken sandwich and burger were good also. Next time, I'll try the Chicken Milanese. I liked Dexter's, especially when the vivacious Vivian, our barkeep, recognized me from Minari. This was our first visit and will certainly not be the last. We started with the onion rings and potato waffles, both absolutely delicious. The curry ketchup with the onion rings was a fantastic dip as well, probably our favorite dish of the meal. Mussels were absolutely loved and a huge portion. The small steak frites was delicious as well. Cooked as requested and a huge portion of fries, which were yum as well. The peppercorn sauce was a little pepper spicy but still good. The elote burger was also good, though would do a double patty if ordered again. The two different prices for the burgers are for either single or double patty; same for the steaks, 5oz or 10oz. Hostess stand is on the 50th Street side of the building and speaking of the hostess, she was absolutely lovely and welcoming. Service was fine There, nothing to write home about. We got lucky with a spot in the small parking lot in the back of the building but there is also plenty of street parking or a free public parking lot nearby. Another plus was the sidewalks were very clean considering it was winter. We look forward to coming back when the weather is nicer to dine on the patio. read more

I've been meaning to come here for awhile. There were a few burgers I was interested in and also had my eye on their wings. I ended up trying the elote burger as recommended by our server. My friend wanted to try the onion rings and we ended the meal with some passionfruit gelato. The burger was excellent. Different than I gravitate towards, but was tasty. The meat was very tender and juicy. I'd pass on the onion rings and didn't care for the truffle mayo or curry ketchup served with it. I usually like truffle, but it tasted like the fake or poor quality truffle. The passionfruit gelato was. Last minute decision, but that baby was some of the best gelato I've had. I love that flavor and it hit the spot. I will have to go back to try those other burgers and wings and of course more gelato! read more

We hadn't tried this place, but now that I've been I highly recommend! Perfect date night spot. They have a small parking lot where we found one spot but plenty of other street parking around. The friendliest hostess in town greeted us at the door, and we put our name on the list for a table, but almost immediately were able to get seats at the bar instead. The place was packed with energy and tons of lights and holiday vibes. The food here is amazing. And Marley at the bar helped us all night, helping us decide on food and drinks. The mussels were served in an amazing sauce, but our only disappointment of the night was the toast that came with the mussels. This tasted like it had been dropped into the coals off of the grill, charred and burned and just icky. I wish they would just serve a basket of bread on the side so we could have enjoyed more of the sauce. I heard they were known for their burgers, and the Elote burger was incredible. The sauce for the steak frite was rich and perfectly peppered and definitely made this dish special. The cocktails for the holiday season were all fun and served in cute glasses with no detail in the ingredients or the garnish left out. I would love to come back here again soon. read more

I visited Dexters on a Saturday night with my girlfriends & had a lovely evening. The food was good and the drinks were just ok. I felt as though the majority of my drinks were 80% ice and 20% the actual drink which was a bit disappointing. We ordered the onion rings and cheese curds which were so yummy! The cheese curds had cheddar powder on the outside which made them AMAZING. We got the Green Goddess salad which was a bit bland-I would not recommend. For the main dish I got the Dexter burger which I highly recommend getting as it's delicious! Service was good except for the fact you could tell they were trying to get us out of there quickly at the end as they stopped by every few minutes including the manager while we were trying to enjoy the rest of our cocktails. I typically love the restaurants from the Del Prado restaurant portfolio so perhaps I had overly-hyped anticipation of my first visit to Dexter's. It has the vibe of a neighborhood gathering place with a prominent bar operation showing off big screen sports but also with a less masculine vibe which would appeal to a broader audience and not just sports fans. I like the look and feel of the place and felt like it would be somewhere I would be happy to visit often. It is loud and projects a vibrant, communal buzz in the internal dining area so don't expect this to be a cozy, romantic date night spot. The menu seems to be based off of bar food with many foodie driven inspirations. Burgers, sandwiches and the likes are scaled up by having things like oysters worked in and some basics like fried bologna or pastrami sandwiches appeal on paper to foodies by working in mortadella for standard Oscar Mayer and tongue instead of brisket. It sounds upgraded from typical bar food and has prices to match as the burgers and sandwiches start at $15 and go up from there. There is also a craft cocktail menu and the drinks were creative and quite likable but the pours were small for the price. I may have visited on an off night but the food was less memorable. It was not bad and I would eat it again but the price point for the portions served was about the only thing that wowed me. $15-19 gets you a lone sandwich on a plate with a lengthwise sliced half pickle. The size of the sandwiches were not gargantuan. Adding beef tallow cooked fries to your order adds another $11 so a basic burger and fries will run you close to $30 without drinks. It's not hard to see how a meal for 2 of sandwiches, fries and adult beverages will easily put you in the $100+ range for a tab. One thing that was flat out bad on my visit were the fried pickles. The cornmeal crust (not the pickle itself) was so salty as to make them inedible. I'm sure that was a mistake somehow and one that I might expect at a cheap chain franchise which this is not. (I did not alert them to this because our server was so enthusiastic about the food that comes out of this kitchen that I didn't want to disappoint her with bad news...but I should have.) The other items were fine but nothing over the top which makes me think that their price points are high considering that sandwiches hover close to $20 but come with no sides. To be fair, it has only been open for about 2 months on my visit so it may be that they are still working some things out in the kitchen which might explain the salt-lick pickles. And while I enjoyed visiting here to check it out, I found it to be rather expensive for such a casual experience. (Hint: Put something else on the plate besides the lonely sandwich and the limp half pickle. At least then I would feel like I'm getting something for the higher cost). Their pricing is what will keep this from being in my regular restaurant rotation. read more

We also enjoyed the Go Cry About It cocktail, Naked in Tulum cocktail, and the World's Best Espresso Martini. For food, we LOVED the Cinnamon dry rub wings--SO crispy and tasty. For this being the new hot spot in Edina I was not disappointed. I was able to walk in and get a seat on the patio on a busy Thursday night. It was calmer outside but just the atmosphere I was looking for. Both drinks that I tried were delectable. The World's Best Espresso Martini was a classic with a slight twist, a touch of mint. La Flamenco was light and refreshing. Will definitely have both again! Unfortunately when we tried to order the Elote Burger, we were informed they were out of corn for the evening. This was disappointing but that means I'll be back to try it. Instead I opt'd for the fried pickles with ranch to start. The best way to describe these are pickle fries. They were crispy and a great starter. For an entree I went with the wedge salad. This salad was sooo good, and full of flavor. I loved the roasted tomatoes and the amount of dressing on the lettuce. I always have high expectations for a Chef Del Prado restaurant, and Dexter's certainly did not disappoint. The bar is sturdy and expansive with plenty of indoor seating and a lovely outdoor patio. What used to be Agra Culture has transformed into a bright, welcoming space with plenty of natural light and a happy buzz with excellent service. We went on the Sunday of Labor Day and were pleasantly surprised to find two seats available at the bar around 6PM. Fried Pickles: I was ever so happy that these came in true "fry" form instead of circular medallions. While I do love a State Fair fried pickle, I appreciated the ratio of breading to pickle at Dexter's. The batter was extremely salty, which I just loved, and the dipping sauce was some sort of house made ranch with fresh herbs, very tasty. Elote Burger: of the eight burger offerings, the bar tender mentioned the Elote as her favorite, and I can't say no to anything with white American cheese, smash patties and a mayo based sauce. Two smash patties with great flavor, gooey American cheese, charred corn and a delicious chipotle mayo make up the guts. The cilantro was a welcome addition, I just wish the additional components had made it a touch more spicy, the jalapeño flavor didn't come through as much for me? Overall, really great new spot where it feels as if you can just pop in for a bite. Prices are quite reasonable and the TVs are not all over powering, so you can still feel engaged in conversation. I'm giving Dexter's 4 stars because I thought it is a place I would return to when choosing to eat in this neighborhood. I thought the vibe was great. We sat on the patio on a lovely Saturday evening. Indoor dining also looks fun. The drinks were good, slightly small. Fish and chips were great. The mussels were very small but plentiful and the wine sauce was probably the best I've had besides the sauce in Nova Scotia. My vegetarian friend had the chickpea burger and thought it was good. We shared the onion rings and cauliflower. The server knew the menu well. My only complaint is when we split the bill, a $200 bill became $135 for each couple. If we had not seen that we would've overpaid by $75. This is not acceptable. When we asked our server about it, she said oh I guess somebody else's food item was added to it. This one is a little outside of the city in Edina and something about the aesthetic didn't quite land for us, it felt like a cross between an upscale lounge and a sports bar with giant TVs playing random channels. Lots of families were here the night we were in as well so it seems somewhat kid friendly. Service the whole night was great and provided lots of recommendations! For food, we tried a few things including the caviar, trout roe, and cauliflower. HIGHLY recommend the trout roe and the cauliflower. For the caviar, we ended up having to swap the shoestring potatoes it came with for the ones that came with the roe since the shoestring fries couldn't scoop the caviar without spilling, but the crunch of the shoestring fry went well with the trout roe dip so it worked out! The cauliflower was a standout of the night. For entres - my favorites were the elote burger and fried chicken sandwich 100%. We also split some dessert and both the cakes were delicious (coconut was a fav) and I adored the chocolate hazelnut gelato best. read more

That was not the case at Dexter's you would have thought they always had brunch. Our experience was great service , food and drinks. Had a reservation, still forced to wait 20 minutes for a table due to poor management. Tables sat empty while none of their team cleaned them. Came on a Monday night and of all the holiday drinks, they only had one available citing the rest as "sold out". Additionally, several of their beers were also unavailable. After seeing the table next to us able to order one of the "sold out drinks", the waiter said oh yeah, that changed. Maybe you can get that as your next drink after we had already ordered but he couldn't change the order on our behalf. As for the food, had a very long wait for it to come out while half the tables sat empty. When the food finally came, the fries were cold. Visited 10/10/24. Go for the apps, and mayyybe nothing else. (Even then I would still hoof it across the street and hit up red cow, or even better drive to St Paul and go to Brunson's). Dexter's is another Daniel Del Prado creation-this time his take on a burger joint. While I do feel like it could cater decently to the Edina crowd, to me it felt somewhat soulless. A burger joint should be lively with screens, noise, and good ambiance. Dexter's had low candle lighting, tables packed together (literally felt like 6 inches away from the table next to us), and an air of pretentiousness that was kind of hard to shake throughout the meal. Pacing of the meal kind of disjointed and we both left disappointed as we had high hopes for this to be in our rotation of burger spots. To start off I got a cider while my sister got a beer (she ordered a pickle on the side like she always gets with coors and this was a slightly surprisingly difficult request, took quite a bit of convincing on our part). We also ordered the cacio e Pepe cauliflower and the fried pickles. These apps were definitely the shining stars of the night and if I end up re-visiting, I would definitely order especially the cauliflower again. For dinner I got the bacon burger while my sister got the chickpea burger. I'm going to be honest, if you are going to charge $16-17 for burgers it's a bit shocking that you aren't going to include a side of fries. My burger had a lot of flavor and I enjoyed it for the most part. I like never complain about too much flavor but I will say it's a very rich burger (I would be willing to skimp a bit on the patty if I was given a side of fries!). My sister's chickpea patty was dry and spicy and when she did ask for a side of ketchup it took about 8-10 minutes for it to come out. Sometimes with burgers the simpler, the better and this felt like clear evidence of that. Overall a lackluster experience and you could get a better burger and ambiance at a cheaper price at many different burger joints in the cities. read more
