Stopped by this AMC when meeting a friend in the area, John R (Madison Heights) is our usual AMC. The place looks more modern than John r but may have some staffing issues. We stood in the a-list line for awhile and were completely ignored as they took other customers. After complied we were waited on. Many of the ice machines weren't working (it was a hotter day) and the butter was out of stock. The butter area was a bit messy with popcorn, but I've seen worse on weekends. The server was nice despite our initial attitude after being ignored. This location could use to move the premier line so it's visible, in case that was the problem. read more

This theater is clean and comfortable. I love AMC a lot and the red leather seats are a plus. I've been going to AMC since they had the old-style seats, so I'm a longtime fan of the brand. Depending on what time of day you come here it can be crowded, but this one is one of the cleaner theaters in the area with nicer amenities. read more

AMC at this location and Mound Road has turned the heat down to the point the rooms are uncomfortable. I pay for a comfortable environment.

THIS PLACE IS AWFUL! their new curfew set in place is absolutely terrible, getting denied to watch the MINE-CRAFT movie because me and my cousins are under the age of 21, mind you my eldest cousin is 20 and can legally vote and the youngest is 16 and legally eligible to drive past 10 pm, and not to mention a parent consented and bought the tickets for us. and they never specified in the app the age we had to be so we assumed over 18. the worker also said we can get a refund in a business day yet we were unable to get a refund and IT WAS THE MINECRAFT MOVIE! it is not that serious and it's a kids movie. read more

The updated seating is nice, but when I last went in February of this year the service is still atrocious as ever. The "service workers" are all lackadaisical, walking around and b.s.'ing with one another and/or on their mobile devices instead of cleaning up the unbelievable mess made from the day before (I assume it was from the day before, because I came to an early show). I MAY give this location one last chance, but if it hasn't changed that is it. I hope when the quarantine is lifted they only bring back their very best employees, because if they were that messy and uncaring before the pandemic I would NOT trust them to properly clean to protect all of us against COVID-19. read more

When I was coming up this was THEE theater to go to in the east side burbs. I've got many good memories from my adolescence and young adulthood, and I'd probably have a lot more if it weren't for all the substances I used to ingest. I guess that's neither here nor there but it's hard not to see the current incarnation of the Star Gratiot as being a dump in comparison. The outside looks dingy, like it could use an ultimate power wash and the high ceiling and the big domed, frosted skylight seem like pathetic attempts at grandeur to me now, like some little kid wearing hand-me-downs that are too big. And even with the addition of a bar they had to block off the whole back end of the once sprawling lobby. I miss the video games and other coin operated devices, even if I never wasted money trying to use a mechanical claw to grab some stuffed animal. Maybe the carpet is easier to maintain but I miss the old shiny floors, too. The concessions are almost always understaffed so be ready to wait. I'll allow the big comfortable seats totally slay what we had to put our butts into back in the 90s but it's not enough to make up for everything else. Fortunately I don't have noisy patrons ruining the movie stories like I've seen in other reviews but I try not to go to this theater. The latest Spider-Man and The Last Jedi are the only two movies I can think of from the past several years. And yes, this review does have an "old man yells at cloud" vibe but you know what? There are theaters I've given five stars to, and multiplexes I can think of that are worthy of four. AMC Forum I only gave three but I'm willing to drive all the way out there just to not come here. They could use some work in the bathroom cleanliness department and they need to have someone checking tickets so we don't have to go through the line when we already purchased mobile tickets. The staff is friendly but they are in the brink of extinction. When we left the movie theater at 11 on a Monday I did t see any employees anywhere. I didn't see a horror movie but that scene was pretty eerie spooky creepy. I visited this AMC theater on a week day to have a night out for my anniversary, everything seemed good, it wasn't crowded, however when we went to grab food and snacks. They did not have any cheese so I couldn't get the pretzel bites with a cheese or nacho's & cheese. The young man behind the concession stand said they only order 4 boxes and they ran out over the weekend. I was so disappointed , I look forward to the food while watching a great movie. I felt like they should've done better job with being stocked with cheese , I feel that we should have at least been compensated in some way. read more

Wow. I don't often give bad reviews but this time I wish I could give zero stars. Came on a Sunday morning for a 10:30 showing of Avengers... so keep in mind this was opening weekend of a huge movie and the theatre was playing back to back sold out shows. 1.) 1 employee working concession stand. Long lines, candy not stocked. She was rude as hell 2.) The messes were terrible. They had barely been open that long and the place was disgusting and trashed. Popcorn, butter, food everywhere. The bathroom was gross. 3.). My friend injured herself (fell) and foot swelled up instantly so we went and asked for a bag of Ice. This employee was rude and had zero sense of urgency as well as barely said two words to us. You would think they might want to file a report since inside their movie theatre. She didn't even ask how my friend was. I believe this may be my first 1 star and I can guarantee you I am never coming back read more

We attended a showing on Mother's Day. While the theater was very clean, we were SHOCKED after ordering 2 SMALL drinks and a SMALL popcorn. Our attendant said 'That will be $35 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Star Gratiot is a hidden Macomb gem. First, the theaters are seriously clean. From the theaters, to the lobby, and to the restrooms, the entire complex sparkles. Second, the staff are among the best I've encountered anywhere I've ever been. (I've been a lot of places!) You're usually greeted by a group of employees who'll start your movie experience off right by making you feel at ease and comfortable with their friendly demeanor at the entrance and at the concessions. Their service is pleasantly nonpareil and if you don't come, well you won't know. Come if you're a cinema buff, and you won't regret it. read more

The updated seating is really comfortable, they did a good job with it. Yes the kids working can be unprofessional and uncaring about their jobs, but I have also seen kids sweeping their area and wiping down the counters. Snack selection has improved with beef and chicken sliders, savory and sweet pretzels, different flavors of popcorn and other stuff in addition to the typical candy selection. They also have a bar in the theater but I don't often see it open. They do give free refills on pop and popcorn. I don't really ever see the theater filthy, as I've seen in some reviews. Went to concessions before our movie with a 50$ gift card. Ordered 3 regular popcorn and 4 regular pops. The cashier rang up 7 popcorn at $7.79, instead of ringing up 4 pops at $5.79 and 3 popcorn at $7.79. With tax the total should have been $49.32. Instead she charged me $57.80- $50 on the gift card and the remainder on my debit card. When I brought it to her attention, she called over a manager and, for some reason tried to refund my debit card $33.04??? The manager then wanted to recharge me for the pops, which the gift card would have covered in the first place. The actual refund should have been $8.48. When I got home I checked my bank account, and, to my surprise, my account was not credited. This is not the first time I have had issues with this theater. The last time I took my family, management was incapable of reining in unruly patrons, who brought their young children, who, throughout the movie, were playing on tablets and "talking." The children were very young, 3 under the age of 4 I would guess, so it was the parent's responsibility to address their behavior, but they didn't. So I asked management to address the issue. The moment the dad got defensive about management even addressing the issue, management walked out of the theater without resolving anything. We typically will go to this theater because it is close to home but no more. I will drive the extra distance so my family and I can have a good movie-going experience. read more

I've had issues with this this place since I bought a ticket for "There Will Be Blood" in 2007, and there was very little blood. Nachos and jalapeños were bomb, though. My only advice is make more Good movies. read more

I've been coming to this theater ever since I was a kid. I remember it being really nice, then going downhill, then nice again. Now it seems to be slowly going back downhill. It is nicer after the renovations and the addition of the reclining seats. It seems to always be messy though. The bathrooms especially. Also - this is not their fault and has no reflection in the review but can we talk about what a waste of money 3D movies are? I seen Black Panther yesterday and I cannot recall one awesome 3D part. I only seen it in 3D because it was the only time I could go and there was not a 2D showing at that time! boo! PLUS - this may or may not be the theaters fault but quite a few times there are fingerprints on the 3D glasses...when they're coming new out of a package! what the heck? read more

Paid $16 to watch "Dolby" quality for Jig Saw. Lol what a joke. "The seats vibrate." They vibrated one time. And it was during a commercial. This is literally a scam and if you happen to read this review do yourself a favor and save the extra $8. And if you're also planning to get food, the only thing worth the $6 is the pretzel bites. You get a good amount. But make sure you wait for your food, because the worked gave my friends food to someone else and we had to wait an extra 5 minutes. When you go to movie theaters everything is obviously a rip off, but this place irked me even more than usual. The seats were also kind of uncomfortable, but I think that was just me... So. This theater is about 5 miles from my house, closer than MJR, but I almost never come here for several reason, mostly around price. The Pop and Popcorn combo is $3 more than at MJR and you don't get refills, for example. The tickets are more expensive as well. And they charge for buying tickets online, unless you BUY into their loyalty program. What??? But nonetheless, last night due to timing issues we found ourselves at the Star Gratiot, which when I was a kid was THE place to see movies and always packed. Not so much anymore. It was basically empty in there; perhaps the customer service one receives for the privilege of paying more would be the reason? When we walked in, the young man selling tickets was wearing earbuds and reading something at the counter. He was nice enough when I got his attention and sold me the tickets, although he didn't hear I wanted two at first (maybe because of the earbuds??). Then we went to buy popcorn. This was at 9:30 pm and they had at least four movies that started at 9:30 pm or later. The two girls at the counter were not the least bit interested in serving us. They were, however, very interested in whatever was on the phone they were ogling. When we asked where we could be served, we were met with an eye roll and a pointed finger to the cash register they were leaning over. I went over and asked for combo number one, only to be informed they didn't have any more popcorn as they were "closing soon". Huh?? At least four movies were JUST STARTING. We were amazed and didn't know what to say. The good news is, hubby and I learned we can actually make it through a movie without snacks and saved at least$15.00 and a few hundred calories. The bad news for AMC Star is they botched another opportunity to win a customer back. Honestly, the only good thing I can say about this theater is every time I go there, they do a great job convincing me not to come back. read more

First my daughter and I only went to this particular AMC because I got free ticket, popcorn and drink off of entering codes into Coke Rewards. The kid Uriah working behind the counter top get us popcorn wouldn't even look at us. I had to tell him to give me my cup for my drink. And he walked like he had led in his shoes. This is a really nice theater that has been greatly improved since renovations. If you haven't been in year I would suggest checking them out. I've seen a number of movies here and will continue to return for more. The Dolby Cinema is certainly an experience like no other and I love that this theater is able to provide that option. Word of caution. My catalytic converter was stolen while I was in an afternoon movie. Nothing against the company, but something that patrons should be aware of. Be careful when choosing a parking spot and look out for and report suspicious activity. read more

By far the worst AMC in the area. The drink area is always dirty even @12:30pm on a Friday afternoon. Normally the theatres are clean but the front area is always dirty. I've been going to this theater for years and it was going downhill and fast! It just want keeping up as the others as far as image and amenities. I had actually found myself driving further to other theaters just to avoid this place. I was so happy when I heard they were finally pouring some millions into it to make some upgrades. I took my oldest daughter here a few days after Christmas to see Rogue One having no idea they had started making renovations already. To my surprise they had already upgraded quite a bit! The most noticeable thing though was the seating and interior of the theaters. Awesomely plush leather reclining seating with tons of leg room was the best! I know a lot of other theaters already have this stuff but for these upgrades to come to my theater of choice makes me so happy! I didn't want to get up and leave after the movie was over. I also like that they switched to Coke freestyle machines where you can get your own beverages with 100+ combinations. I can't wait to see what they do with the rest of the renovations but for now I'm completely happy keeping this as my theater of choice when I'm in the area. read more

The employees at the concession stand have ZERO customer service. They have no idea how to operate lines and treat customers horribly. They operate a premier line and don't have a dedicated staff member for premier members. They don't care if they inconvenience patrons nor do they care how they talk to people. The employees claim their district manager told them to treat people like this and if so, they should be fired. They're trying to squeeze a monthly payment from people and that's ridiculous. They do this and there is urine all over the women's bathroom floor, employees drinking soda as they're taking your tickets, and food on the floor in the lobby. And you want me to pay 19.99 for this? This is why I'll be going to the Emagine and MJR theaters from now on. read more

Last time I visited this theater it was dirty and trash was everywhere. Straw papers and popcorn on the ground... everywhere. The pop machines were out of certain popular syrups. They deffinately need to work on the cleanliness. I was embarrassed to bring my new girlfriend to the local theatre that night. We haven't been back since. There were no lines and the movie experience was good but the visiting experience wasn't so impressive. That may be because others had the same experience and did not return. I will say that this theatre has improved a lot in the last few years. This is never my first option but it is definitely an option now. Went to the 10pm movie other then everything being over price. I will probably being dricing all the to imagine theater. I shouls have keep to my normal. It wasn't fair just because I choose to come to a later movie they stop making 90% of the food and the bar was also closed. You didn't know where you were going because none of the screens where up.
