I'm amazed by all the negative reviews. My husband and I went here for the first time and we were impressed! We typically frequent the Ward AMC, as well as the Leawood location. Studio 28 is ginormous, much cleaner, and has amazing service. For a movie, drinks, and dinner for two, be prepared to spend about $100 bucks. The food was good. The alcoholic beverages were strong. My only complaint was my inability to get comfortable on those dine-in chairs during the movie. read more

This theater is, by far, the best in the KC area. I'm not at all a fan of sitting next to people who I don't know, at the movies, and the dine-in theaters with the recliners set in pairs make sure that I never have to! This place is seriously the only reason I still go to the movies anymore. The ticket prices aren't bad, at all (the nice theater with the recliners is between $10-$15 per ticket depending on the time/day), and the food is actually tasty, and reasonably priced...you know, for a theater. I'm part of the AMC Stubs Premiere program, and it is well worth the $15 per year. *Pro tip - If you're a party of 2, skip the standard Fork and Screen theaters, and go for the Cinema Suites (upgraded theaters with the recliners). read more

Generally, this AMC location is one of the better theatres in the area. The location is updated with some modern amenities in limited theatres such as dine-in service, IMAX, and recliners. Sometimes I have noticed that the self service kiosks do not work correctly and the way the concessions are served make for a crowded foot traffic mess. It does help to keep things moving than a traditional "wait in line" for your concessions idea. I just wish they didn't get rid of the small popcorn option, but that's probably a company thing, and not just this location. All in all, a good location that I tend to keep coming back to, even if it's not the closest location to my home. read more

Came here on Friday to see Last Christmas. First, I want to say my experience at this theater was a lot better than at the amc dine-in at prairie fire. The service was attentive and organized. It is nice that there are actual tables in the theater to put your food and drinks on instead of pull-out tray tables. The main reason I am giving this 3 stars is because the drinks and food are really overpriced. For example, a glass of Andre champagne is $10.99 (a bottle costs half that). My husband and I shared the appetizer sampler, which included wings, onion rings, mozzarella bites, and pretzel bites. The sampler was $14, which is not a bad deal, but the pretzel bites and onion rings came out lukewarm. The dry-rub wings and fried mozzarella were good. Overall, I would come here again, because it is a fun date night. But be prepared to spend a lot if you are getting food and a couple of drinks! read more

Went to see My Big Fat Wedding 2! After seeing it I remembered how the first one was a sleeper and word of mouth made it a huge success. I think this is the same. The movie was funny and I pretty much laughed the whole time! A great feeling . That aside the theater was clean, the staff was friendly and they serve wine! The issue I have with this establishment is one of moral integrity and questions our very existence. The staff, albeit hard working and well versed in service, are not at all up to the standards of what a modern attractive human ought to be in terms of style. There is a clear breakdown of clothing trends that seems to have wrought havoc from with in the walls of the like from which I've never experienced. Everyone literally wears the same thing as if there is some kind of demanded uniformity. To me this is a huge turn off in this age of freedom and love. Please work on this issue and I will continue my patronage. Also, the assigned seating is less than stellar as I cannot properly read numbers or letters. If you could perhaps see you way to setting up a sub system perhaps more universal, such as Klingon, I would be satisfied beyond belief. The films are brilliant though and your studio really seems to have what it takes in that respect. read more

Always loved this location until lately. Fork and Acrewn was at one time great, but the quality of the food was subpar at best today. We ordered the loaded tots which came out fairly fast, but were cold and nothing like what we have gotten for years. The only thing on them was ranch. I went to the bar to order more food and the bartender graciously offered to replace. The second batch was even worse than the first. Also ordered nachos which were worse than the ones from concession. We once really enjoyed the food here. Drinks came out 15 minutes after food and a fork took an extra 10 minutes. They need to return this concept back to what it once was. read more

The food and entire atmosphere of this place is amazing! I ordered the chocolate milk shake which was heaven. It has whipped cream, a brownie, and layers of chocolate. I also got the poutine and the salmon bowl (which were both new items on the menu) both really outstanding. Carlos got the fried chicken plate which was also super good. I like the theatre a lot. It's very classic. I think it will be even nicer once the seats are upgraded to recliners but even without the revamped seats this theatre is great! read more

Came to watch the rest of the Royals game at the bar before the movie,sat there for about 15 min and NEVER got helped! Decided to go ahead and go into theater,got help within 5 min! Told waitress I was Not Happy! Ordered beer,pop and popcorn. The manager brought our popcorn and apologized about our no service at the bar and then said the popcorn was on the house! I've been going to amc for some time now spent lots of money there. I will not be back because of the rude bartender I encountered last night. He was working on Sat night and cut me off just because I wanted him to create a drink for me. I just said make me something with vodka. It was a Sat night and I wasn't driving. I wasn't rude at all. My favorite place to go and watch movies. Comfiest chaIrs and the theaters are pretty roomy.

It's not my favorite theater, but it's tolerable. The parking lot -- or I guess I shpuld say the shopping center where the theater is located -- is a busy one. The congestion often makes access in and out a bit of a challenge. The seating isn't the best, but not the wfirst. It depends a bit on which theater you are in. read more

I like this theater, enough that, when there is a movie that I want to see, I drive the 30 minute to this Olathe theater instead of going to the theater in Lawrence. The seats are comfortable, have the adjustable arms, and the snacks for the regular movies are fine as well (any place that allows me to control the butter on my popcorn gets a nod). The only draw back, and more so on the part of the digital posting, than the actual theater, is that I find it sometimes hard to tell what theaters are regular movies and which are the Fork and Screen (dinner in the theater) section. I have not been to the Fork and Screen portion of the theater, but friends who have gone really enjoyed the service and the seating. read more

WOW!!! 30 theaters plus reclining chairs, food & drink service! I must have died and gone to movie theater heaven. So, I just my first movie at this location and I'm amazed. The theater is large and in charge, clean and fresh and amazingly fantastic. I saw The Hobbit, the unfortunately long movie about a small man with hairy feet, and I'm not sure if I could have found a more comfortable theater to spend three hours of my life that I'll never get back in. I'll definitely be back to this theater. I just hope the movie is a bit better than the large feet small hobbit man. read more

OK folks here is the scoop - we come from Fl and NY and have never had a Movie place with a full bar - recliners - wait services and great movies.. We don't ever get this in City Place in Palm Beach! So we enjoy the food as it is equal to any Applebees or Chili's chain... prices are equal - the movie rates are equal to any movies - add a few bucks more for the privacy of a small theaters/recliners plus a full bar and we are sold!!! We attended Bridge of Spies here last night (my wife and I) and really enjoyed our first experience with the Cinema Suites setup. The Pros 1. Easy tickets. We purchased online then simply walked up to the kiosk to print. I guess we could have just showed them our phones as well. Didn't have to wait in any line at all, which was great because we were coming from a hour away and were a tad bit late. 2. Awesome seats. The reclining chairs were soft, spacious and comfortable. I liked the swivel table setup, and only wish the tables themselves would elevate in height. 3. Menu was diverse. I felt the menu was sufficiently diverse. I have read a lot of complaints about the new menu. Not having experienced the old one, I honestly thought that the company has done a good job at trying to find something for everyone. 4. Portion size. This was another puzzling things in reviews that I read. People were complaining that the portions were small. The plate of fish and chips I received was huge, and I'm a big guy! 5. Being able to order anytime during the movie. Again, there have been some reviews saying you couldn't order during the movie. This is simply not the case. We finished our main meals and wanted to try the milk shakes, so we simply hit a button and an attendant came right out to us. It was great! 6. Clean theater! The theater was cleaner than a general cinema in my opinion. I really enjoyed this. The Cons 1. Front row is tough. In any theater, seating in the front row is going to be undesirable. Due to our late purchase of tickets, we had to sit in seats 1 and 2. Now, with the recliners, this was not as bad as it could have been, but I won't purchase those seats in the future if I can help it. I understand that each suite theater has only 32 seats, so a front row is going to be necessary due to size. I would stay away from that if you can. 2. Kitchen was a bit slow, and forgot an item. Every kitchen in the world can have an off night. Our main courses took a good while to get to us, which is not terrible since we were entertained, but my wife leaned over and asked if I thought they had forgotten the food. Also, we had ordered an appetizer which never came. Not a huge deal in the least. 3. Felt a bit rushed to order. Our waitress came to us pretty quickly after sitting down, and was asking for our order. We had not had time to really look at the menu at that point. I do need to add the caveat that we walked in right as the previews started, so this may have been our fault. The Misc. 1. This is a pricey outing. Be prepared to pay a premium. For tickets, a stubs membership and a meal consisting of two mixed drinks and a main course it was $100. I don't regret paying this since going out to eat before the movie would have been $40 or $50 alone. The Stubs membership was $9 as well so I could have saved a bit. Just be aware of what you are doing. There are no prices on the menus, which can be tough if you are planning on sticking to a budget. 2. To the reviewer from a few months ago complaining about assigned seating; I think you have a misunderstanding on how this works. One of the "features" of this experience is that you do not have to struggle to find seating. You get to pick your seats, which allows you to relax and walk in and know where you are supposed to be at. People buy ahead of time and make plans accordingly. From your review, you walked up. Not AMC's fault in the least because you don't understand how this works. 3. The bathrooms in this section of the building are small, so be prepared to wait a bit after the movie if you want to use them right outside of the theater. You can of course walk down to a different bathroom in the main part of the cinema. Overall, this was a great experience! read more

Ladies and gentlemen... Here is my favorite movie theatre in Kansas City. There are a load of reasons to this, but I am going to stick with the most pertinent. One of my first pieces I like about it is simply put at variety. I am not going to stop with just the movies, but variety in terms of movies and types of auditoriums. You have numerous from small, to large, to IMAX (which is a pretty large screen, but not WHOA IMAX, but still awesome), then Fork and Screen and Cinema Suites. Variety doesn't stop there! I was super stoked when they, a few years back, upgraded the concessions to self serve, and it's pretty much like a convenience store - and they pull off gourmet in some cases really well. Still, can't stop there with variety because there's a bar there! Yes, folks, and the drinks don't have to stay at the bar - you can drink during the movie! To top variety off, the food there is good (for movie theatre standard). I'm also happy that the pricing is actually fair. You want to go during the weekend? Buck up! Go during the week, or afternoon, there's your value. I also must be the happy card-carrying member and say YES, AMC Stubs is still worth it. See a movie? Earn rewards. Concessions? Rewards. Glass of wine?! ALSO YES!.... Rewards. All that raving and I gave it 4 stars? Well, it is a small hike away from home, where other (awesome) AMC locations are closer. But, not a single time have I went to this location, and be disappointed; that is, never have been disappointed in the location as a theatre. On the other hand, I should point out the location has something else going for it. It does have a great plethora of options of eating out and some shopping all around this place. So there's that going for it. Call me also a slight snob on the technical end, but I actually wish that movies in the IMAX theatre were consistent with keeping the volume cranked at 11.5. Sometimes that hasn't been the case, but great examples of when my insides were bashed in by UBER bass have been such fun-fests as TRON: Legacy, Inception, and The Dark Knight Trilogy (yep, saw all three there). Okay, there you have it, one of the best theatres Kansas City has to offer ever. The only way it could be beat is if they built a new one with a TRUE IMAX screen (like the IMAX in Branson... this review is for the Fork and Screen part of the theater. I just don't get it. I don't. My brother and his girlfriend love it so we went there on a family outing over Christmas. The seats weren't comfortable (if you want comfortable seats, check out the Ward Parkway AMC) and the table part just seemed to far away from the seat leading me to have to sit up to reach my drink. Our waitress was attentive and provided good service. Overall the food was actually pretty good. My girlfriend and I split a pizza. I believe the cost was $10 for the pizza but for the portions I would have rather paid about $6 (yes I know, its a movie theater). I will say that the beer was cheaper than i expected. Having servers walking through the theater and constantly hearing forks scraping against plates kept distracting me from the movie (damn ADHD). Again, my experience wasn't bad but I just don't see the appeal. When I go to a movie I want to be immersed in the experience with my popcorn and soda in a comfortable seat (again...ward parkway people, full on recliners). If I want to eat pizza and get drunk during a movie I can do that at home. Save your money and just go out to eat before or after the movie. read more

Wow - I did not like this theater. The concessions ordering section is crazy - there is no organization and people are bumping into you. The seats in the theater! were horrible. I cannot think of more uncomfortable seats in a theater - the back goes straight up and almost leans forward, but to lean back just a little - you have to concentrate and be able to do this. This is for the non-Fork'n'Screen showrooms. I made a different review for that. I feel the movies are still overpriced but yet a fun experience. This theater tends to do pretty good. Sound and picture is good (especially in the IMAX). Most of the time the rooms are clean. However, last time in between shows they failed to cleanup a soda spill in the middle of the theater that covered a couple of rows. It made trying to sneak out for a bathroom break a little difficult. A little embarrassing and distracting. Summary: - Overall, quite a nice theater with good sound and picture. Not only is this place a comfortable and posh atmosphere, but it has great staff as well! They are very kind and helpful, going out of their way to thank you for being there and being great about changing ticket times. I enjoyed this place so much that I set up my proposal (she said yes!) at the theater! The staff again went above and beyond to make it an incredible experience. I can't praise them enough. Seats need to be upgraded. They are not recliners and are not comfortable. Sound is not great at all in the theater. Sounds like you are listening to the movie in a tunnel. Must only have a few theaters that have upgraded seats with the fork and spoon service. Spend a few extra dollars and go to a different theater. read more

This is my home away from home. I love going to the movies but this place is great. I'll bulletin point this one to make it easy. PROs clean and well kept always helpful when needed purchase tickets online with kiosk pickup purchase tickets at pretty quick walk up window Stubs points program with pretty good perks leather seats (newly updated 1-2 years ago) moving cup holder arms.. stretch out if you like or just extra hip room roomier seats all around screens are huge and well kept (no "repairs" visible) if there is an issue (texting, loud kids, etc).. they are ON IT.. just tell them great sound (huge bonus points for that with me) Cinema Suites & Fork and Screen... yummy food, good service, Suite seats are so comfortable..recline, relax, enjoy CONs a little too cold for me but I always wear a hoodie so all is well price of concessions but I rarely buy so.. not a huge deal their pretzels.. if I did buy, this was it.. but since they changed to a microwaved un-fresh thing in a bag..yuck (take a tip from the Phoenix theaters on this one.. go to pretzel bites.. yum!) Saves me some calories though. Cinema Suite seats... SO comfortable by noisy. The leather sticks every inch of the move when reclining Cinema Suites/Fork and Screen straws... PLEASE PLEASE make them "bendy" straws. The cups are huge and hard to drink out of with the ubber long straw.. especially if you are reclined. One stop shop for any movie. Even Bollywood get's some love from the AMC 30. Movies in Hindi regularly grace the screens. One of the biggest reasons this theater gets five stars is simply because of the fact that when AMC tries any new technology or newer customer service concepts, this is one of the first theaters in the nation to experiment with them. This naturally makes sense due to the fact that AMC's world headquarters is about 25 miles north on I-35 in downtown KC. Variety of concessions is refreshingly varied. Only con to this place is the seats during long movies (Ex: Dark Knight) they can get a little unruly. Otherwise, a gem in the middle of the midwest. Love the diversity of experiences this AMC offers. They have big screen theaters like the IMAX theater, Fork and Screen theaters for a dinner and a movie combo experience, and theaters full of luxury recliners. I haven't found a movie ticket for $5 in years, but the matinee price tickets in the standard theaters are just that. So cheap! My only beef with this theater is that the Fork and Screen and luxury theaters take up enough show times you might be forced into dropping more money on dinner you didn't mean to buy just so you can get the showtime you want. Studio 30 was always our number one theater that we would drive all the way to Olathe for. You know why? It is the absolute easiest to spend an entire day theater hopping and you will never, ever get hassled. With the two branches, it's easy to plan out a day of movies, and figure out your route. Obviously you're not going to try to see two of the blockbusters in the middle section on the same day, but if you're smart about it and look up movie times on the internet before you go, you're golden. Therefore 5 stars for their inattentive staff, clean bathrooms, automatic ticket dispensers, and decent theaters. read more

Thirty theaters is a lot. You want it, they've got it. A few points: 1. They're usually playing a Bollywood movie of some sort. 2. I'm very much sick of Fork & Screen, particularly after last weekend's visit. The price of the ticket ($12 that afternoon) no longer includes a voucher for food, so I paid $50 for a show, 2 drinks, and a burger meal for the kid. Highway robbery. 3. But I will still give Cinema Suites its props. Leather recliners, spacious leg room, and NO PESKY KIDS. 4. I've yet to watch an IMAX movie, so I can't rate those. 5. The bathrooms offer plenty of stalls, are very clean, and feature paper towels AND Dyson hand dryers. (Love them!) read more

This has always been my favorite movie place since the moment it was built. I've been to other movie theaters. None come close to the diversity of options like the 30. It's just so big they're able to try anything new. Being that it's only two exits away from my home on I-35 is a bonus too. If you got to come a long way, it's worth it too. $5 all day weekdays, you just can't beat either. Not much for the fork & screen/cinema suites (every theater is doing it now), but love the buffet style of concession. I like how they don't haggle you if you bring in food from outside. I'm not always in the mood for theater food when I go to the movies. Helps the businesses around them (smart). On the same note sometimes I will just make a stop there just to get popcorn (all the butter you can handle lol), no movie. read more

It's been a long time since I went to an AMC theater. I went for an 11am show. I purchased my ticket at a kiosk in the lobby and went in and chose my seat in the back row and prepared to enjoy my movie. Right before the movie starts somebody comes up to me and tells me I am in their seat. In a mid morning show with four other people in the theater and this is a problem? He tells me it's "assigned seating." Well, I take responsibility for that. I didn't pay attention to that and apologized, explained it was my first time here (which it was at this location) and moved two seats down. No big deal. But I got to thinking: Assigned seating for a matinee? I guess I can see the benefit on opening weekend. Buy your tickets early, get the seats you want, you don't have to stand in line for hours on end to get a good seat. Rock on! Great benefit! After opening weekend? It's an annoyance. I guess they are trying too hard to get people in the door now home theaters are more advanced. This experience made me just want to stay home, or go over a few miles away to a competing theater on 135th and Antioch where the seats are come as you grab them. The way it should be, especially on a matinee. Because here's my thing: when it comes to where I want to sit, I don't always know until I am standing in the theater. I want to get away from the popcorn eating mom with the crying baby and the bored brats who can't sit still. I want to get away from the talkers. I want to get away from the moron with the cellphone. And I want somewhere in the middle, if possible, to get the best view of the screen. I may not have wanted the back row if I was picking tickets if restless children were back there. It's too much hassle. AMC, you're trying too hard. Knock it off. The reclining seats are awesome, but matinees do NOT need to be assigned seating. I am starting to lose my lust for this theatre. Since it's practically across the street from my house, it'll still be my go-to place...but I've started doing something I never considered possible: I've seriously considered going to the AMC at Town Center. The issue with this AMC is that they have practically given up on giving you an affordable experience. I mean, I know movies can be expensive, but they have made it so that 80% of movies are either in Fork & Screen or Cinema Suites...with subsequent higher prices. For example, this past weekend, my fiance and I wanted to see Argo, a big movie which had just come out the previous day. Since we didn't have any desire to eat or drink, we wanted just a regular movie in a regular theater...crazy, huh? Damn, we're CRAZY! Well, on that particular weekend, there were three showings of Argo during the entire day in a regular movie theater...THREE! The rest (about 12 or so) were in the more expensive Cinema Suites or Fork & Screen. Since we had a schedule, we coughed up the $2 more per person for the Fork & Screen. We were then stared at by the staff when we had the audacity to not get any food or drinks. AND we had to put up with everyone ordering, clinking glasses and plates, etc. while we were just trying to watch a movie. I used to love this place, but I'm losing my love for it. If I want the Cinema Suites, I will do it - they are fantastic. However, sometimes I just want to see a movie without eating food...apparently that's a preposterous thing here! read more

Brilliant idea: hit dinner and a movie with one shot and not have to spend 4-5 hours between the two. I went with a friend to a fork and screen viewing of Silver Lining Playbook. Got our tickets online and picked them up at the theater and missed the line. We got there early and were able to put in our drink/food orders before the movie started which was nice. The food was good and the chairs were comfortable. The gripe I have is how far the seats are from the table. It made it difficult to eat. Some of the food prices were right on with other places I've been too, other prices for drinks were a little on the high side. A good experience overall though read more
