AMC Town Center 20 is my go-to theater for watching movies. I really love that all the seats are recliners here and they are very comfortable. I also have no complaints about the cleanliness, showtimes, service and most importantly The Food. I usually get popcorn and chicken tenders every time I visit, and they are always fresh and prepared well. Overall, I have never had any big issues with this theater. That said, I definitely feel like the place could use little bit of renovations, as the decor looks a bit one toned and outdated. It doesn't take away from the experience I have there but a decor refresh would definitely add a lovely touch. One thing I would mention is the pricing of the popcorn/snacks - a standard size popcorn for $10 plus is just wild ($10.47 to be precise). If they could lower the prices a bit, it would be a win win situation for everyone. Needless to say, I always enjoy my movie time here and will always keep coming back. Overall, I don't think this is a bad theatre, just certainly not my favorite for a variety of reasons. First of all, the customer service is lacking a ton. Especially when you are buying food, the people checking you out always have some kind of attitude. One guy couldn't figure out how to use my giftcard and told me it had nothing on it when I had just got it with $15. Online it said 15 too. He didn't bother with getting a manager or asking for help from other workers. This past time, there was a huge line for food and only one person checking out. Three other employees were tanning about their lives in a circle, completely ignoring the line and not offering to help at all. The place is clean and the food is always good to me. Plus i've never had any problems with movies starting late or any problems with the actual seats. read more

I had not been to this theatre in many years and was pleasantly surprised by the updates throughout. Everything was nice and clean and looked modern. Not sure I love the new ordering station and pickup system for concessions, but it was fine. Popcorn was great, lots of drink options but wish they had Pepsi. Our movie was in a small theatre with the reserved reclining seats. We were in the back row and our seats were not reclining, so my husband climbed behind the seats and found that they were not plugged in. Everything worked once he plugged them in, but of course he should t have had to do that, staff needs to check that stuff. All in all I am a fan of AMC theatres and enjoyed this location for a limited release movie that was only showing here in the area. read more

AMC 20 has been a movie theatre mainstay in Johnson County since I was in highschool and coming here is fairly nostalgic for me. It had honestly been years since I'd seen a movie here, but we took our daughter recently to see the new despicable me movie and we had a great time. Yes, some of the theatre does feel like it could use a bit of a facelift, maybe some seats replaced, things cleaned a bit more frequently, but it wasn't bad. Overall we had a great time, all of our seats reclined well and were comfortable, and I'm sure we'll be back sometime. read more

What's great about AMC Town Center is that it is by headquarters and so the quality of this theater is definitely on the higher end and better than most in the metro. There are plenty of screens and one of the few that have IMAX because I needed to watch Wicked with HIGH-QUALITY sound and honestly, it delivered. Didn't realize the seats didn't recline but that's okay though it would have been better if it did. The theater is pretty clean and well-kept for the most part. Some screens have reclining seats and others don't. I feel like it could use some modernization in some parts of the theater especially given that the headquarters are right THERE. You would think AMC would have it as a showcase piece and make it a better destination. Be experimental and do some cool stuff AMC. I am glad there are a bunch of restaurants and shops around it so there's plenty to do before and after a movie. Happy watching and remember: Don't deny, satisfy! read more

It's been years since I've been to the movies. It was easy to order tickets online in advance. I was surprised when walk into that there literally was no people working the ticket booth but plenty of machines available. Once someone scan out mobile tickets, we went to the bar. We ordered a bottle of wine which they pour into two plastic cups. I was happy with this so we didn't have to carry the bottle with us. Overall, the look Lobby, bar, women's bathroom and movie theatre were very clean especially with number of people there on a Saturday night. Solid AMC theater located in the Town Center. Easy parking and a massive facility. Easy self-checkout when purchasing tickets at the kiosks out front. Came on a late Friday afternoon to watch the new James Bond. Matinee pricing is 30% off before 4pm showings (less than $9/ticket with tax). Unfortunately, there was no one checking tickets at the front but I was able to locate my theater. The screen and audio quality were solid. The theater was on the smaller/medium size. Basically a full house. A few folks forgot to turn off their cellphone ringers. An okay experience overall. read more

For a few different reasons, it has become rare that I actually see a movie in a bona fide movie THEATER, so, when I do, it's a bit of a special occasion! The "why" behind that is the headwind that any theater has when getting a great review. It's rare that the opportunity for a date night comes along, and/or a movie that we want to spend (what has become) a ton of money to share the experience with the general public. In all of 2022, that only occurred twice for me. The latest movie to bring us out was Avatar: The Way of Water. We viewed it in the Dolby theater here at the complex, and, W O W. There may be no better movie to see on the big screen, with Dolby's magical sound and 3D imagery. Absolutely stunning. If the review only covered the audio/video element of this specific high-performance theater room, it would be five stars, hands down. The experience, as a whole, however? Meh...at best. This used to be the premier complex to view a movie in all of Johnson County for the better part of a decade. Oh, how times have changed. TL;DR - more expensive for a less-clean and more do-it-yourself experience. There is no option to interact with a human, on site, to purchase tickets. The box office is dark and lifeless. That aspect, however, has NOT made the tickets more affordable, as you will pay miscellaneous app and convenience fees with nearly any booking service you choose. The lack of a line to purchase does make it a more convenient experience, and check in is fairly easy. However, my internal "fairness" intuition makes me feel like the do-it-yourself nature of purchase and entry should actually SAVE us money, not cost more. Concessions? Yet again, this has become a near-completely human-free experience. Possibly more convenient, but also much more room for error and issues without trained professionals around. Zero customer service to help enhance the experience or justify a large layout of cash to show up. Inside the actual theater room, there are rows of cushy, reclining seats. These are, to be sure, one of the best improvements from the past decade of a theater experience. Yet, on both occasions I visited this year, both of my seats and arm rests were absolutely filthy. To boot, both my wife's and my pair of 3D glasses were also filthy. Thank goodness for lens wipes. The last downfall is that although we were at a late-start, PG-13 movie, there were numerous toddlers present. One, located immediately behind us, was squealing and talking loudly, and banging on the partition between its row and ours throughout the movie, enough to warrant a verbal intervention from my wife. While I understand that is more the fault of the parents who brought the kid and failed to keep them under control, it speaks to the overall experience one has all-too-frequently in a theater nowadays, and it something that complexes/chains will need to sort out if they want to entice people to spend hard-earned inflation dollars on a experience most can get at home a few weeks later. read more

When you have babies or little kiddos in the house, getting to a movie theater becomes a distant memory for many of us. However, we found a cheat code based on a combo of cabin fever and Covid fatigue that allowed us all to get in one and enjoyed it thoroughly: Rent a theater to yourself. That idea always seemed like something where you're have to be rolling in cash to do, but they have (had, more on that later) a nice little system to make it manageable. Rent a matinee for 20, invite some other families, and split the bill. Ends up being around $40 per household which isn't that different from a normal experience. Plus when the kiddos inevitably get bored and get up and run around, you're not disturbing the peace of the general public. Now I say they HAD a great system, but there are some hiccups. The website is more complicated than it needs to be to track down what you're looking for. Additionally, we wanted to make a monthly tradition out of this, but last I checked the price of the theater rental went from $160 to $300 and up (depending on the day of the week and time)... so, yeah, no. Not doing that. I'll keep eyes on it and see if the price fluctuates to a normal level, because it really was pretty fun and a great idea. I'd love to seem them expand on this and have even more kids movies, including some classics to choose from. It's a win for families and the public. read more

It's sad, AMC used to be THE movie theater chain in KC, the Town Center location was at the top of that list. But that has clearly changed. Each time we visit it gets worse. Yesterday really sealed the deal. Depending on which theater you're in the seats may recline (or not) and you won't know in advance. After experiencing other theaters where every seat in every theater is top-notch recline-all-the-way we should be able to expect that when paying top dollar prices for tickets. This place looks okay from first glance but don't let that fool you. I dropped my phone and had to search under the seat. OMG the mess under that seat was so disgusting, I was contemplating leaving my phone and telling my carrier I had lost it before sticking my hand under there Wowza, that's something I could have gone a lifetime without knowing/seeing. Please, if you're smart don't look under the seats. Do yourself a favor and take my word on this one. I may never be the same and I've seen a lot of grossness in my day. read more

I love AMC as a whole and this is my favorite location in the Kansas City area. The theaters are always clean, the parking lot is always clean, the person who scans the tickets is always nice and smiles and gives great directions to the theater. The concession stand is always clean and it was this way pre-pandemic as well as now as we are exiting the pandemic. I hope that people continue to come to movie theaters because there is quite honestly nothing like it! Also the movies always start on time. We bought the tickets for Sicario before arriving so a simple swipe and we were on our way to our seats. We sat in the first middle row and loved the reclining seats. Why would you go anywhere else? Several of the seats around us were torn up to include mine so seemed a little trashy. My wife ordered popcorn and a drink on her app for delivery to our seats. We were well into the movie went it arrived and she should've just ordered before we went to our seats because they forgot to bring a straw so she had to go out there anyway. Picked a movie I wanted to see that has been out for only 30 days but it was showing at limited theaters and times. This Very small theater seats don't recline very far. Talk about feeling like a sardine that's how you feel in this theater the seats are tight. Not a comfortable way to watch a movie. Disappointed in Seating options. And theater isn't even full, but they have assigned seats. Popcorn delivery was prompt but popcorn was cold. Bar service was not quick or friendly. Not impressed, this may be why I frequent movies less each year, the comfort of watching at home without straining your neck is worth waiting for films to come out to DVD or streaming. I would not recommend coming to this theater unless you are seeing the the newest film in the largest theater and at that you better reserve your seat early. read more

Seats recline w feet up, but the back doesn't recline very far at all so when your feet are up it puts you in an awkward position. Normally I go to the Ward Parkway location but it's closed for remodeling. What's the point of paying for a movie if you can't recline all the way and get comfortable. At first I thought it was just my seat so I tried others and realize they all only recline part way back. read more

I remember when I used to take my kiddos to the movies, in a Saturday. The place would be packed! However, it was good to go and not feel overwhelmed or rushed. The way they have it set up now to purchase anything can be confusing but it almost looks like a cafeteria. You walk through, pick your selections and make your own drinks then pay the cashier at the end. Be very careful if you're on a budget. You should eat prior to going to the movies or keep in mind that the items are VERY expensive. The restrooms and theater was clean and I enjoyed the movie. read more

Cool place to be to watch some of the greatest movies! This theatre is surprisingly clean, which is a plus. The concessions stand typically moves pretty quick, although the prices are high (but what movie theatre isn't?!). Lastly, some of their theatre rooms have reclining seats to make watching a movie a very comfortable experience. I think that's one of the coolest parts about it. Also, some of the rooms have an option to "order ahead" meaning, you can order your snacks and drinks online, and they will take it to your reserved seating in the room! Love AMC! read more

I haven't been here for over 2 years, and it's been fairly renovated since then. My only quibble is that for 7pm on a Friday night (of a Marvel movie premier weekend, on top of it) the concessions checkout was *very* understaffed and the whole odd system of "pay for it first, then come get it" didn't make much sense (file under "if it ain't broke, don't fix it). They make it easy to purchase tickets, can be done ahead of time online or at the entrance. Parking is available but they share with town center so beware of the potential walk. The snack are is self serve for the most part, they still have staff to fill your popcorn orders. Drinks are self pour. I wish the water cups were larger than an 8oz and had lids. It's super inconvenient to walk around with open container, plus I may finish this portion before the movie even starts. They offer fancy seating: reclining leather seats, I really wish they would be heated since the movies are always freezing. I also wish they had a 21+ screenings to avoid the annoying teenagers that ruined my movie experience. They are noisy and inconsiderate. I don't normally go to this theatre because it's a 30 minute drive and the tickets are expensive for what you get. read more

Went to watch a movie last night, I have not been here since they have renovated this place. So much has changed and everything looks much nicer and cleaner. The seats in the theater was so comfortable and even the one that I had were not recliners, I still felt like I was home on my couch. The imax theater is big and surround sounds is great. I usually love AMC however this evening's experience was truly disappointing on so many levels. My mum and I went to go see a movie together and it was the first time in about a year we did something like this so we both expected to have a pleasant night at the theater. When we first walked in the boy who was supposed to be taking tickets didn't even look up and ignored my mum when she said "hi". When my mum said "hi" again he barely looked up and said something like he was trying to reset his ticket machine. Okay that's fine. One bad thing. No worries. But nooo. When I went to the concession area to get us a popcorn I get to the front of the line and the boy at the cash register didn't even look up. I asked him a question about the stubs reward and he mumbled an answer I couldn't understand. And when I gave him my stubs member card he ripped it out of my hand and looked it over like it was some kind of fraudulent/counterfeit card. Excuse me! I'm in the service industry so I understand having bad days but this was out of line. An attitude the size of Texas just isn't what I go to the theater for. Movie was great though!! read more

First off, I love AMC. I've joined the A list program and typically I go to AMC 28. I hold AMC to high standard, because that's what I'm use to. I haven't been to 20 in awhile, but I was very unimpressed. The theater was very dirty, bathrooms were gross, and there wasn't an attendant to be found. It pains me to give an AMC such a negative review. I really hope this was just a one time thing. I can't say I'll be back to this AMC, maybe later on I'll be in the area and stop back in and give an updated review. read more

I typically have great experiences at this theater. But last night, it was the opposite. My family went to see a movie and there were about 17 teenagers there in the same cinema. They were loud, shining their flash lights throughout the entire film, smoking, and yelling profanities. It was incredibly distracting and frustrating. I understand this is on those kids and not the theater, but it was frustrating to not have had someone peek their head in and check in on the status of the crowd. read more

So the new thing is to make the theater as close to your own home theater as you possibly can. Score one for AMC Town Center 20. The theater concessions have gone to the new bistro/cafeteria schematic with loads of food choices. The theater was a huge surprise. Not expecting such a smaller, intimate set up. The seats were reserved (AWESOME!) and they were leather recliners. Almost too comfortable as I wanted to fall asleep in them. If this is the future of cinemas? I'm all in! read more

Pretty clear this theatre is not being cleaned anywhere near a normal standard let alone a standard acceptable with COVID. At one of the first showings for the day the bathrooms are filthy, there is popcorn all over the carpeting, and food and coins and trash in the theatre seats. Disappointing. read more
