This place was excellent! My husband and I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon during the lunch rush (and FFA was in town!) but we got through the line very quickly. Both of our meals were delicious. My husband got a chicken shawarma sandwich that he mentioned would be good with a few more banana peppers but was still great. I got a beef meal with some kind of yogurt sauce and a side of potatoes. It was soooo good! At first, I didn't expect the flavor of the sauce over the beef, but really came to love it. I'm excited to go back and try a few more things :) We ended our experience with some baklava which was perfect. Like little flaky, nutty, honey pinwheels. Wow. Definitely stop in here if you get a chance!

    Thanks for the Gyro!

They have much more than just Gyros. I love the city market. So many delicious smells.

A longtime staple of City Market offerings homemade ethnic food. Sandwiched between the Mexican restaurant and the back of a vegan restaurant, it's easy to overlook this family owned restaurant. Dishes are soo fresh that a fresh batch of rice was brought out in the skillet it was prepared in. I usually get the chicken and rice with spinach which enough for two meals! The Gyro combination is really good as well. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and skip the burger and pizza and try this delicious home cooking.

I've been searching around for some decent shawarma in Indianapolis. I haven't even been able to find mediocre shawarma. But then I tried Ameer yesterday. Amazingly good shawarma sandwich. Served piping hot with just the perfect blend of spice and sauce and goodness. If you've wondered if good shawarma can be found anywhere in Indy like I have, your quest is at an end. This put even some NYC places to shame. Great food and the couple running it were as nice as could be.

Chicken Kurma and spinach to go.

The Friday special is what I live for. Mujadara- carmelized onions, lentil and rice pilaf with the salad and yogurt sauce. Yum! Cash only!

Both were delicious and well portioned. The guvec (veggie casserole) had eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, and other veggies plus rice and a small salad. The delight had carrots, eggplant, tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, served on top of hummus and walnuts. The food was delivered quickly given the restaurant was full on a Friday night. Good thing we made reservations, which we will do again when we return.

The entire place is covered with the evil eye charms, so you should definitely be safe here. I highly recommend reservations because they sure get busy. And while the ambiance is great, you really cannot linger for long, as there are usually folks waiting to get a seat. The menu is quite extensive and offers plenty for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I opted for the Iskender, which is crisp pita bread pieces topped with meat slices, all of it doused in a savory tomato based sauce and topped with dollops of yoghurt. The bread has little crisp edges and together with the meat and toppings gives you like a mini sandwich in your mouth. Simply delicious. The Turkish spices bring a wonderful flavor to the dish. I highly recommend it. Hat to admit it, but I have not been too impressed with the tzaziki on previous visits. It was somewhat runny and bland, but I haven't had in a while. Street parking is limited, but in the summer there is a gravel lot on the side of the neighboring building. However when it snows, parking can be a bit of a problem, so be aware.

I called ahead and ordered: 2 kebab sandwiches 2 falafel sandwiches 2 kibbeh orders baba ghanoush fattoush salad The employee on the phone told me the order would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived, I was told it would actually be another 17 minutes. I waited in my car, came back after that time passed, and then was told "maybe 13 more minutes." The biggest issue was not just the wait -- it was the lack of honesty and time management. If the restaurant had simply said from the beginning that they were behind and needed closer to an hour, I would have understood. What frustrates customers is being repeatedly given inaccurate wait times. People plan their schedules, families, and evenings around the times restaurants provide. After waiting inside, sitting directly in front of the counter, I watched the cook START preparing parts of my order almost an hour after I originally placed it. Items like the baba ghanoush, salad, and kibbeh -- foods that are usually already prepared -- were only assembled then. Meanwhile, customers who arrived after me and ordered at the restaurant were served before my takeout order was completed. Unfortunately, the food quality also suffered from the long delay: The sandwiches were soggy The salad had water pooled at the bottom and no dressing The kibbeh was soaked in grease For the amount paid, I expected much better service, communication, and food quality. A simple apology and realistic timing would have made a huge difference.
