They installed a new furnace and air conditioning unit for us about eight years ago and have been back each fall and spring to check that the system is working properly. American Air Heating & Cooling (Services NC and SC) sold me a service contract and discovered a leak back in 2022. The leak was never discussed with me nor was I given an option for repair, so I was just charged for the refrigerant. The same thing happened in 2023 and then again on 5/16/2025. On this visit Adam claimed that the Evaporator Coils were leaking, and I needed a new system. He did not offer to replace the coils, he stated that the parts were not available which was a complete lie according to Lennox. His main concern was selling a system and a new service plan for another 3 years. I called Lennox the manufacturer and they sent out a certified Lennox dealer/service company. The tech discovered that the system had not been serviced in many years and found a leak in the refrigerant line at a connection. he also discovered a faulty breaker that could have caused a fire and the contact points on the heat pump were burnt which could have damaged the system. The line, breaker and contact points were replaced and the system is leak free. If the leak was discovered and repaired in 2022, I would not have needed the refrigerant the two other times. I asked for a refund for the service contract because nether tech did their job to service my system and the 410 refrigerant was unneeded if they knew what they were doing. The company has not responded. I have also filed a report with BBB and the company has not responded to the complaint. I have many pictures and HD video of every step of the inspection and repair. I also have the defective parts for proof upon request. I feel that the techs were taking advantage of the situation so they could charge for the refrigerant and the service contract until the system was destroyed. All of this leaking has put unnecessary stress on my system for over 3 years, I do hope nothing was damaged or I will be seeking reimbursement for replacement. These guys are very dishonest and will take every penny they can without any care for your families HVAC system. I am appalled that I trusted this company for 10 years. read more

They were assigned to me by AHS. They never even bothered to call and schedule an appointment. I would avoid them at all costs if they can't do the basics can you trust them to do the technical work? Update The contact history below is either fake or mistaken. I never received a call or an email and can provide a complete phone history to back it up. I checked all my call logs just in case I was wrong. So either you were calling the wrong person or your employee possibly was not honest with you. Either way I was never contacted. This experience is pre-COVID. I am still upset about it 4 months later because they got paid for nothing. The technician didn't troubleshoot appropriately and seemed to not care because in his mind, AC season was very soon. We used heat into May. There were many cold nights after that day. I got another technician out and they worked diligently for over an hour, trying to figure out the problem and found that my damper was bad. I understand that my system is very new. I understand that it was starting to warm up, but you failed to do your job and really troubleshoot the situation and I'm still pretty salty. Do NOT call this company. They installed a new AC unit for me the week early July 2017. You would think they know a thing or two about installing AC? NO SUCH LUCK. Within a week the unit was down and not working again. Best part, you would think on such a colossal screw up, they would prioritize fixing? NO SUCH LUCK. Taking NO responsibility for their work. I had another professional head over to look, to see if a quick fix? He said "no way this install would have come close to passing any inspection". He then listed 4 major flaws he saw from the major install. Now, I understand things happen, but to take no responsibility on your major screw up and not address ASAP, proves this is a company you DO NOT want touching anything you own. I own and manage 20 properties for past 15 years, so I have seen and dealt with much, but this would rate as the #1 disappointment in regards to quality of work and customer service I have ever seen. Through my insurance they set me up with this company and Shawn was the guy that came out to look at my unit. He was very helpful and explained what was going on with my unit and explained how the system works. Shawn was very informative and was very helpful coming out to the house! Unfortunately I had to call for some help with the A/C this morning. I kind of figured what might be the problem. Was told Brian would be at my home between 5-7 pm. Brian called me at 4:43 and said he was on his way. He arrived and assessed the situation. Only needed freon for downstairs unit. He checked to see if upstairs needed any as well. Got 2 pounds of freon. Brian was extremely professional and polite. If I ever have a need again I will definitely call American Air Heating and Cooling. read more

I called out American Air to service my heat pump that frosted up after our first cold rain in the 30's. Dave from American Air came out and did a routine service check and spent time with me answering all my questions and said the system is in great shape. NEVER EVER use them! If I could give NO STARS I would. They replaced my capacitor almost a year to the date and it's out again. I may not know much about a/c units but I know you don't replace those things once a year. American air heating and cooling is all about getting your money and not caring if the job is done correctly. The company that was sent out to repair my unit said the previous tech (American air) didn't run my wires correctly and that's why it blew again. This is the thing... I have a home warranty so this doesn't cost me anything for the repair (besides the deductible) but if you messed up... fix it! What type of business/company are you that you can't stand behind your work? I can pick any company that I choose therefore I shouldn't have to deal with shady work and I dam sure shouldn't have to deal with a receptionist that was rude and calling me a liar. (Yes she said to me "I find that hard to believe"). Just a FYI ma'am I have better things to do with my time then to make up something that is covered under warranty. THE WORST! I had an associate come out to my home and check on my HVAC system. He said I was low on freon and that I needed about 2 pounds more. I was going to pay out of pocket. After he filled it up, he said there was a leak coming from a bad TXV value and that I need a new one and it would cost about $1800. Sorry, I don't have that kind of cash on hand, so I told him I had to go through my home warranty. The Tech got spooked and didn't know what to do. He told me to call his boss, Chad Jr. and he said he would contact my home warranty company and get it all worked out. I was then reassured by the Tech Jamie AND Chad Jr. that they would not leave me high and dry. Well, It's been over THREE WEEKS and I've heard NOTHING and Chad Jr. won't even return my phone call! Great customer service and technician skills. Upon arriving at my place to fix my AC unit Chris was very friendly and wasn't bothered by my overly hyper dog. He went out back to look at my ac unit and within 15 minutes was able to tell me what was wrong and how much the cost would be. The price was reasonable to what I had compared online so I allowed him to go ahead with the repairs that were needed. He was done in 20 minutes top. I will definitely use them again! read more

Coming home and finding your A/C not cooling is bad for anyone but coming home from the hospital to find out is excruciating! From my first phone contact with Renee she was kind and helpful. She scheduled me an appointment with a technician to be at my home within a couple hours of my call so that my air conditioning issue could be addressed before it got hot. Nathan the technician was at my home on time and solved my issues and got my air working very quickly less then 20 minutes. Unprofessional company. Customer service did not tell us to turn the unit off before service. They came in and said they cannot do anything since the unit is frozen. It was their own fault that they missed to inform us to turn the unit off. Additionally, I did not give them my credit card information since they didn't do anything and didn't provide proper information prior to service. They used my old credit card on file without my permission and charged me for their incompetent service. read more

had someone come out and do an estimate 2 or 3 weeks ago. they were helpful and very quick to schedule the appointment and very polite when he got there. After he left, i waited and didn't get an estimate. I called twice and was told the tech was out of the office and the estimate would be sent the same day. contacted via FB since thats how i originally contacted but this time there was no answer. i was persistent because they came well recommended but i wish they'd simply told me they didn't want to do the job. I posted a comment on FB but they delete the bad ones, so take that into consideration when you review those posts. So now I'm posting where they can't delete :) Finally, i called today just to file a complaint and make sure the manager was aware. I asked to speak to a manager and the gentleman told me he was the manager, he also said he was the person who came out to the house to look at the job. he was very apologetic, and he said (yet again) that id have the estimate tonight, he asked for my email (which id give on every call) and as he started to go over the job details, he had all the information mixed up. We had discussed a couple of options because it was a brand new system and he mixed them all up, I guess thats what happens when you sit on information for 2-3 weeks!! Great customer service and prompt response to my furnace problems. Called the other guys and they couldn't even give me a price for days and we had no heat. These guys got me installed super fast and correctly ran my condensation lines and duct work! It was done wrong before and causing moisture issues. Terrible customer service. The first call took them a week to come out because they were so busy. All they did was add Freon and said that was all they could do because the warranty company won't authorize them to do anything else. Second call 2 weeks later they came back out added Freon and checked for leaks and added leak stop. Third call they wouldn't add anymore Freon and said they had to put in a diagnosis to replace the parts. That was over a week ago. So after 30 days of being jerked around and them only doing limited service because they blamed the warranty company, I am still without AC. The Owner, Chad, who does the purchasing doesn't return phone calls and doesn't follow up. They didn't respond timely to the warranty company requests for additional information. When I called, the owner's wife, Vicky, she first blamed the warranty company for changing their process, then turned around and said they have done everything that was asked, which according to the warranty company wasn't true. When I mentioned that Chad hadn't called my husband back on several occasions and I was more inclined to believe the warranty company, Vicky hung up on me. Now I have to switch companies and start the process over again. I filed a complaint with the warranty company, next Better Business Bureau. The new company just called and will be out today, same day. read more

Last week a tech from American Air came to check my weak HVAC. He started by replacing the nearly new "non-prop" thermostat, without asking. They had put it in two years before. Then, for the first time ever, he went in the attic to inspect the air handler. He "found" a drain pan that was five inches too short for the ten-year+ old system. He said it would take four men to lift the unit and replace the pan. He said the unit needed more freon, but refused to put it in because of the short pan. He then gave me a quote on a completely new system-$5661.00. I went up today, lifted that end of the unit with one hand, and replaced the pan with an old one from under a washing machine. His quote for the four man drain pan job-$420. My cost, $0. The number of men who could have possibly fit in that area of the attic-2, uncomfortably. I am certain the whole thing was contrived and standard practice when he found an older unit. After three visits in nine years, there will absolutely not be a fourth. read more

Tech came out and repaired heating system by replacing fuse. Two days later our motherboard caught on fire. Tech came back out and diagnosed issue and order part. We were out for over 7 days in the winter. Worst customer service. Would not recommend. read more
