This is based on customer service I've received in the international airport in Miami. I would love to give them negative 5 stars if possible. American airline = racist airline. I was on a trip back from Colombia, lady name Monique literally "rope" me like if you would of been in a club and not let me on the original flight back to Austin Texas, as I was walking onto the flight from custom, while she was taking a drink of water and give the hand signal to wait. I called customer service at Miami and was told I need to go to a register and talk to an attendant because the time (it was 10pm at this point) in which was not necessary, all can be done in self service. I have to wait until 8:30 am the next day just to get on another flight back home just because this woman didn't like the color of my skin. I tried talked to management in Miami, and was told they can't help me. There was literally no sense of compassion coming from anyone from AA. You are terrible people and a terrible airline, you do not deserve my business. Just because Asian people are quiet it does not mean you can take advantage of us! read more

I have been a very long American Airlines flyer (since 1993), an American AAdvantage member since 2001, and an AAdvantage credit card holder since 2011. I just went through the worst flying experience I've ever had and as a result I'm going to try as hard as I can to avoid American in the future. This all started with a canceled flight (AA1373) due to weather that actually didn't impact the flight path at the time. I understand safety concerns, but canceling a flight that's part of a larger booking literally hours before without a better solution than moving to next day is just not acceptable, and having some of the most incompetent customer support didn't help our overall situation either. Some details: It was a flight from Austin to Dallas as part of another booking to Europe. The reason I know the weather didn't impact the flight is because I wound up getting a rental car last minute instead ($140) and drove the three hours to Dallas to make the connecting flight. The communication of the canceled flight was literally hours before the takeoff. My wife and I were lucky enough to find a rental car in time, and after 2-3 hours on the phone making sure we could fly from Dallas (our connecting airport), American decided to cancel and rebook the flight for the next day mid-drive! Thankfully we were able to get the issue resolved during our drive and at the airport. So, $140 later for the rental car, around 3-4 hours on the phone, and a 3 hour drive later, we made our connecting flight (operated by British Airways). We made it! We thought we were done with the horror of this, but on the return flight American incompetence struck again... We had to wait at the customer assistance desk for BA (who were very helpful) while their ticketing support was on the line with American ticketing for over 45 minutes. Turns out American noted that I had already flown the flight we were at the airport checking-in to. Apparently I have become a time-traveler now. We actually made it to the airport over two hours before our flight. However, we didn't get checked in until 15 minutes before boarding (at LHR which is one of the largest airports in the world). We managed to drop off our luggage under 5 minutes before cut-off time, and we made barely made it to our gate despite going through security after our boarding already started. This was all due to our persistence and British Airways customer service help. The entire trip was stressful, hectic, and American Airlines left us with a horrible taste for their service. We received no refunds for the cancelled flight, no upgrades for having to rent a car and drive instead of flying our initial leg of the journey, nothing for having to be on the phone literally for hours trying to make sure we can fly and fixing the rebooked cancellation, nothing for messing up our bookings while on the phone trying to fix their mistake, nothing for stressing and spending a lot of time at service desks at airports, nothing for running through airports instead of spending quality time and enjoying our trip, no apology, nothing at all. The only silver lining is that we actually made it to where we should eventually and with our luggage, but that was only due to our persistence and British Airways customer service and help. Since all the years of flying with American I have seen service degrade while other airlines have only improved theirs. I feel really bad for countless other people who didn't have the know-how and persistence that we did to fix American Airlines' mistakes. I hope this review at least shines some light on the incompetence, and hopefully helps others in some way to make a decision when booking flights. read more

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. I would rather walk to my next destination instead of booking another flight with them. There was no one at the desk for TWO hours of a delayed flight to help customers, and then they cancelled it and left us all hanging. They offered no compensation for wasted money on lost hotels, rental cars, time off from work, or wasted travel days. They do not care about their customers. Waiting for flight for two hours at gate 32. Without any notice our late flight's gate is changed. We just happen to look at the airport monitors and see that our flight is now at a different gate. No updates, no notifications, nothing. We walk to new gate to of course wait some more. Then we think we are boarding but we really are only being sent to stand within the non-air-conditioned Covid ridden jet-way for thirty minutes. Then we are told there is a maintenance issue and we will have to proceed back to the terminal. When will this flight leave? No one knows. But we do know American Airlines is THE WORST airline in the universe. Every time i fly American the plane is late, the american employees are condescending and rude, and we (the customers) are treated like trash. Why would i fly American you ask? Just had one of the worst Customer Service experiences in years on Flight 644 from Austin to Phoenix. I had checked a bag so I could carry a small guitar in a soft shell case on board. I had checked this same guitar several times. Agent taking tickets at the gate refused to listen when I said I've placed it in overhead bins and that I could find room. He insisted I check the guitar and said he had never heard of a law saying instruments were to go onboard. He also failed to tell me the bag would be at the gate when I got off. I waited at the baggage carousel, then went to Baggage Service in Phoenix where they told me they should have allowed the guitar on the plane. I'm done with American Airlines. read more

I fly to Austin Texas at least twice a month on business and unfortunately take American Airlines. Almost every time without fail there is some reason or another the plane cannot leave on time. I'm now sitting loaded on flight AA1721 to Los Angeles a full hour after departure time. The reason was the cargo guys ostensibly lost the "retainer clips" for the cargo door. Ok, no big deal folks, "we should have this taken care of in a few minutes". My AA App keeps sending updates every ten minutes saying flight delayed from 2:30 to 2:45 then 3:00 then3:10 with no communication from flight crew. I finally ask a crew member what is going on? We have not even received an update? He gets VERY annoyed that I even ask that question and tells me that the Captain needs the updated log book but it takes LOTS of paperwork to fill out.... 20 more minutes goes by and Captain comes on and says "still waiting for log book". ... 20 minutes later Captain comes on and describes three different types of retainer clips.. says the kind we have needs a "nut" which apparently the mechanic does not have "but hey folks we're working on it" ... apparently these guys either just simply lie to placate the passengers and cover their incompetence or they really are just that incompetent. No offer of a cocktail or other simple gesture to make the situation better.. free water in a Dirty plastic cup Ma'am? No thanks... now nearly 1.5 hours later and still no nut! Crappy service crappy communications and. Complete incompetence in handling the situation. All they had to do was tell the truth, but once lied to it makes it all that much more INSULTING! We are not sheep even though we are treated as such. Virgin Airlines I'm signing up Update, going on to hour 2 of sitting on tarmac with no updates or estimate of departure time... FAA rules say they can keep us locked up in here for up to 3 hours before they have to let us off the plane, I bet it gets to that Update, now they are saying the plane is or could be ok to fly with missing parts. I'm scared to death! If we crash this is why. They won't let me leave the plane 2:45 minutes later and we are supposed to be taking off with missing parts to this airplane. Unbelievable customer service... waiting in Austin to return to Los Angeles and requested an exit row because my husband is 6'5" and literally does not fit in a standard seat. The flight is not even full and I was told they would only be able to place us in an exit row with a $41/person upgrade. I asked if the exit seats will remain empty if I don't pay the money and was told (very rudely) "you get what you pay for!" Apparently, the exit rows now come with free drinks (is that even wise as these are the passengers the airline is entrusting to assist in an emergency) which was his rationale for not giving us the upgrade straight away....I will NEVER fly American again, customer service is horrible, rude employees, and shady tactics to get extra money from people already paying and arm and a leg to fly. read more

From the second we walked up on Dec. 22nd a rude, small, thick, man asked if I was going to check my cat like a piece of luggage. I jokingly said yes because OF COURSE NOT! My husband and I flew from Austin via American Airlines to London to see our son daughter in law and grandchildren.We had a layover in Dallas. Checked 2 pieces of luggage and was told we might have to pick up our luggage in Dallas and go through security and boarding again. We have taken this flight many times and never had this occur. Flight to Dallas runs out of overhead luggage space. We are told as many others we have to check our carry on. Meds,gifts,etc not a good feeling. While in flight to Dallas we showed attendants Tracy and Felicia our luggage receipts. They were shocked that the check in employee had our final destination as Dallas and not London. They tried to locate our luggage and reroute it to no avail. Stellar customer service. They told us to go directly to our gate to get the luggage redirected. The attendant informed us she was not allowed to touch our luggage. We had to collect our luggage from baggage pickup go to boarding desk in another terminal and security again. At this point we are running...my husband is 69 and I'm 67.. We had to take the tram to the other side of the airport which if you know DFW is no easy or quick process.We barely made our flight to London. I rarely complain or vent but the employee who checked our luggage clearly did not know how to process an international flight.My husband and I are safe and secure in England as I share this. I had a puppy flown in by American Airlines. The flights were delayed so they said they 'boarded him at a kennel'. But they refuse to put me through with the kennel and told the kennel to not speak with me. Where is my dog? This is going on the third day. American Airlines has never been great, but now they're worse. They don't take cash for baggage anymore and there is no attention brought to this change made "about two months ago." It's bad enough to have to pay for baggage when you're used to an airline that gives you two free checked bags, but no cash?! It's not a snack on the plane. Before you book on American Airlines, be absolutely positive that you won't be canceling your reservation because if you cancel, you will be out the money. I have always been extremely pleased with my American Airline experiences. However, if you have to cancel a flight, they refuse to credit the amount to your account for future travel. I have NEVER had this happen with other airlines. Other airlines always banked the funds for a one year period and some charged a nominal fee for canceling. American keeps the funds, so I'm out $600+. Customer Service and their flight staff are wonderful. This is far from the case with the Customer Refund Dept. read more

Cali Acevedo is the worst representation AA could have put in a supervisor position. She was rude and spoke profanely to me after having to prove my check in bag fit into their required box. They moved my seat to a middle seat 5 minutes before the flight and ask me to pay 43$ to get back to the isle. This pushed me to the back and by the time was boarding they were looking for people to check bags. The flight was full and because I chose to keep my bag with me she delayed the flight because she said I had an attitude. Mind you used respect this whole time. She was frustrated that I proved to two people my bag was compliant and they had made a mistake. She told me to shut my mouth and keep it shut. I used no profanity, did not elevate my voice, and used respect throughout this interaction. She used profanity and was very aggressive and I will never fly American again. It's disgusting! I didn't want to check my bag because they lost it last time flew with AA! The entitlement this woman showed was awful and her ability to delay a flight for no valid reason is disturbing. Simple respect of a human being was all I asked but that was returned with malice and aggression. Fly anyone but American. This will likely not be addressed by American and I'm guessing she will continue to impose her authority in a way in which demeans her customers and exposes her disgusting character. American Airlines probably has some of the rudest and ignorant flight attendants I have seen in all my years of traveling on multiple airline companies. I really am starting to believe that they train there flight attendants to be as rude and as arrogant they can possibly be. I was coming back from Charlotte to Austin and sadly made the worst possible choice of my life by traveling on an American airline flight. I had to catch a connecting flight from Charlotte to Dallas and then Dallas to Austin and the gap between my connecting flight and my current flight at time was only 30 mins apart, and I was seated at the very back of the flight next u the upmost rude and arrogant flight attendant I have meet when my plan landed I turned to her and told her my situation and asked if it was okay if she let me threw the seats since I was sitting in the middle once I politely told her she responded to me with " you aren't gonna make it that far " and then proceeded to chuckle at me and then when she did move she didn't even get out all the way out of her seat and the proceeded to make faces at me when I had to squeeze by her and And I accidentally hit her legs trying to get out of the seat. and then after I do get if my flight I went to go ask for help from another American Airlines employee at one of the gates that I was supposed to be at. When I got there I tried to get her attention politely and ask her a simple question, but instead of giving a response like a normal human being should do she sat there in silence for five minutes with no response. She acted like I just wasn't there and this didn't happen to me only I saw it happen to a few people after me so please to all the staff that is part of the American airline crew if you don't like your job just quit don't make other people's lives harder just because you don't like what you are doing cause at the end of that when you give us BS don't cry about getting BS back from us y'all have a job y'all weren't hired to treat your customers with respect. Had to give 1 star to write the review otherwise I would have given no stars. My wife is traveling from Colorado Springs to Austin with a flight change in Dallas. Flight 1294 out of COS is delayed 2 hours because the rear door open light was on. My wife missed her connecting flight from Dallas to Austin. When she arrived in Dallas she went to the gate of the next flight to Austin and was charge $370 to get on that flight. Are you kidding me, AA makes her miss her connection and charges her for a new one! Since when did this start happening! What next dragging people off airplanes when a crew member needs your seat, oh yeah that's already happened. I will never fly American again and will influence anyone I can not to fly American. For the second time recently i have been bumped from a flight on American Airlines. I have been a loyal customer for almost 20 years and I will make a change. Last night coming back from Cozumel to Dallas my Austin flight 2707 was bumped because baggage handlers would not unload our flight baggage until they had their break...THAT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I support unions...That is an American Airlines management problem. I support unions and the baggage handlers. They work hard and have very demanding jobs. Another person looking for zero stars here. We showed up 2:15 before our domestic flight to find a crowd of people. When we tried to figure out which line we should be in to check bags, we got mixed answers from the customers who thought they were in line, so I asked an AA employee. She took us straight to a kiosk, so there's the one star. However, there were a large number of people complaining because they had stood in line only to figure out they reached the wrong employee and had to start over. AA, organize your area so people can easily figure out where they should be. This was chaos. No wonder there were so many agitated customers. (This is an ATX review, not sure why it is showing me out of San Fran) My son was awarded a distinguished scholarship at UCLA for a leadership forum. Without boring you with the details, suffice it to say that a lot of time, money and effort was put in to it. I initially tried to book a flight through Alaskan Airlines but they do not service LAX, so I had to purchase an AA ticket thru Alaskan (American Airlines being a partner to Alaskan). The day before the flight I called to ensure that there were no issues. AA arbitrarily invented a rule that if an unaccompanied minor booked a flight thru Alaskan, that they would refuse boarding. They also mentioned that if I bought the ticket with ANY OTHER 3rd party vendor, they would honor it. No mention why it's magically and mysteriously an issue when it's thru Alaskan, whom they chose to partner with. They then demanded that I referred to Alaskan. Alaskan has been going above and beyond to haggle with AA to allow boarding. AA then tried to extort me saying that if I upgrade to business class that they'll allow for the exception, LOL! Oh, I see... so as long as I pay more money for the inconvenience YOU created towards the customer, only then is this arbitrary rule waived (which I suspect is punitive towards Alaskan Air for purchasing Virgin Air). Nice customer service! I despise AA... I have had so many issues with them in the past and I should have gone with my gut... I will NEVER fly AA ever again and will trash them to anyone who seeks a recommendation from me. So I am urging you readers out there to think twice about purchasing from the worst airline company on the planet. read more

I had one of the worse flights in my life on an American Airlines flight going to Montgomery Alabama. The first stop was in Dallas and then from Dallas to Montgomery. Leaving out of Austin Texas. It was on a Friday, my flight was due to leave at 6:30 pm. While I was waiting for my flight I got an alert on my phone that it would be delayed 30 minutes. And then I received another alert is that 30 minutes was about out that would be delayed again another 30 minutes. Then I called American Airlines and they said that there is another flight that's due to leave so I can make my connecting flight out of Dallas to Montgomery. I went to the gate checked in on standby and that flight was delayed. And the second delay I was able to get a seat but the connecting flight from Dallas to Montgomery was too close to the arrival and then the connecting flight from Dallas to Montgomery was canceled. So I went down to the American Airlines counter to see what could be done and they said I could either fly to Dallas tonight stay the night over in Dallas they would count me a hotel room and the man kind of whispered and said, "because it's our fault". I was under the impression that it was the weather in Dallas. But At this time I was too tired to be inquisitive and being from Austin I said I would just stay here and just take the next flight out in the morning which was at 5:16 AM. So I get there in the morning get my flight and as we were added to this flight goes to Charlotte North Carolina and when I got to Charlotte they didn't have my connecting flight on the marquee. So I go to the first American Airlines counter that doesn't have anybody at it and it looks like that they just boarded a plane and the two gentlemen there were extremely rude in my opinion. In the first guy said this guy will help you and the other guy goes."are you going to Indianapolis?" I said "no "and he states , "you're at the wrong gate!" and I respond that I realize that and I explained to him that my flight the gate is not at on the marquee and he looked it up and he said it's at gate 23 at that time I have to go back and doublecheck and then he told me you you could go to AAA.com to get alerts and I quickly explained to him I realize that but I've been getting alerts all alone about the flights, but not this one. So, I go to the gate and check in and they tell me that my flight is delayed till 230pm. So I go to American Airlines to see if there's any other flights because I do have an event to be at on that Saturday and that's why I was initially leaving out that Friday they said no there's only two airlines leaving out of Charlotte and they all leave around the same time so I'm stuck with no recourse absolutely nothing I can do just sit there and take it and wait and it's very frustrating at that time because I had lack of sleep no food and it is it was tough not to cry. So-I finally get into Montgomery and fortunately all my luggage made it there as well and my rental car national Alamo rental car is everybody there in Montgomery was just so friendly and it was just incredible. But I will never fly American airline as long as I can help it.I'll do my best to avoid the Charlotte airport at least American airline people in Charlotte -the only polite person was the custodian in the ladies bathroom. But every American airline person that I encountered was condescending and it appeared as if they didn't even like their job. So if I can avoid it, I will never fly American Airlines again. read more

Our flight was three and a half hours delayed (we were about to take off then had to taxi back and then plane) because someone "forgot to inspect the engine the night before" as quoted by the pilot. Then, after three hours and NO announcements, almost missed the flight had I not looked at the monitor and run across AUS airport. When I got to the gate I asked if they had made any announcement and the woman there had SO MUCH attitude, saying, "are you going to get on the plane or you just going to sit there and complain?" So disappointed with American Airlines. We have been loyal customers for 15 years and were recently notified that our card was hacked through their system and 150,000 miles were stolen. Instead of going after the perpetrators, they let us know that we had to file a police report and that they could not help us. We repeatedly asked to have them call us to discuss the matter and they would only email. The one person my husband was able to talk to told him "you should reply to the email so they know you are responsive, and they will take you more serious." We have never had such an ordeal with any company we have done business with. Customers for 15 years and that doesn't make a bit of difference. Such a shame. We have had to take matters into our own hands. I know this is actually a huge problem with American Airlines and having miles stolen as I have heard similar stories. They should think about better security and help support the loyal customers they have. I have been so upset about this, that I had to take time out of my day to write this review, and it is the first time in my life I have ever had to write something negative about a company. DO NOT FLY WITH AMERICAN AIRLINES. On Monday, I arrived at the airport and went to check my bag. The woman in front of me weighed her bag, and it was 3 pounds over. She said, "That's weird I weighed it.", took out some stuff and moved on. I weighed my bag and it is 3 pounds over again. I have not added anything to my suitcase, I actually gave things to Barbara to take back with her to SD, so my suitcase was lighter. It had already been weighed and let through from SD to NY and NY to SF. I told him this, and was going to ask about the scale, and he said, "You either pay the $100 or take stuff out.", very rudely. I understand they have to deal with people all day, but that is their job, to deal with people, so maybe he could have been a little more understanding or explain to me in a nice way that the scale is accurate, because I didn't even get a chance to ask. I shrugged it off, as it was 4:00a, and continued on. I got to my gate, and my first flight in my trip from SF to Austin (at 6:00a) was delayed 15 minutes, then 30 min., then 45 min. then it was canceled because the crew did not show up. I was told it was because of weather. I was re-booked for a flight. That flight was delayed an hour. I called to ask about what would happen to my baggage, and I was told it would be re-routed to my new flights, or would be waiting for me when I arrived. We arrived in LA and were stuck on the plane, hanging out on the tarmac, for an hour because we did not have a gate we could access. They eventually brought the air-stairs, and we took those down, then got on a bus, and rode to the gate entrance. I BARELY made my connecting flight, and most of the people on the flight who had already had their first flight canceled, had to re-book their connecting flight. So, I made my connecting flight, got to Austin 4 hours later than anticipated, and went to baggage claim. Of course my suitcase was not there. I went to the service desk, and they were training someone, so it took 30 minutes for them to work through my claim as others were being helped next to me very quickly. I understand that training has to happen, but it was very busy, and maybe not the time for training when a large group of annoyed people are missing their possessions. They (including the woman who was training the other woman) continued to ask me the same questions over and over, and had a really hard time even locating my suitcase or understanding that I had to re-book. Eventually, I filed my claim and was told that it would arrive later that night, and that someone would call me to ask if I want it delivered or to come pick it up. The night ended with no call. In between all of this, my mom informed me that my flight confirmation for going back to SD said Sunday, and I had been saying we were leaving on Monday. I went and looked, and sure enough she was right. Barbara and I booked that flight together, and talked about the flight numbers and seat numbers so that we could be on the same flight that Monday. Sure, it was my fault for not catching the confirmation, however I have no idea how that happened. I called to get it changed and they said it would be $200 + the difference in the price of the new ticket. After waiting and talking to a supervisor, I fought to get the $200 waived, and I did. Trust that I brought up my experience that day. I will say the supervisor who helped me went out on limb to help me, which I appreciate, because she said her supervisor said no to the waiver. Then I am told the difference in flight cost is $248. There was no way for me to prove that I booked the right flight, so I just let it go. The next day, I called to try to locate my suitcase and I am told their systems are down and to call back in an hour. I called back in an hour, and I am told their systems are still down and to call back in 2-3 hours. I called back in 2-3 hours, and the automated voice said "we are still locating your luggage. Once we locate it we will contact you." Yeah, right. So I spoke with a representative, and my suitcase was finally at the Austin airport (yay!), so I set up delivery for 10-12 hours later, because I have already had to buy a new outfit because I HAVE NO CLOTHES. It was 3:00p, and I asked if they would deliver that late/early, and I was assured they would. I woke up today. No suitcase on the porch, no missed calls. I called again, and am told they are experiencing higher wait times, and I could get in line to be called back 15-20 minutes later. So I do that. I was just called back and told that their systems are down, and to call back in 15-20 minutes. I have waited 15-20 minutes, and I called back. They said they are experiencing higher call volume, so they would call back in 7-14 minutes. Just receieved the call back, and was told the systems were were still down, and to call back again in 30 minutes. NEVER ENDING. FLY AMERICAN AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

First and foremost, this negative review is directed towards AA and not their employees. I've only ever heard negative things about American Airlines, but as I needed a last minute flight I decided to them a shot. One thing: AA somehow ALWAYS manages to find a way to delay your flight. I missed my connection flight, although I had an hour long layover, because of a delayed arrival. Having to wait two hours at DFW for my new connection flight, we were about to board (on time) and things began to look brighter... until we were informed the crew is not here yet and will be arriving shortly. Time passes and then we are informed the crew will not be here until 2:30! My flight was supposed to leave at 2:25pm! At this rate, I should've already gotten to where I was planning on going. Very frustrating, and they don't try to find resolutions. People have busy schedules and pick flight times for a reason. Don't fly AA unless you have a whole day or two to expend. Horrible. To be fair, this review is not a reflection of the airline personnel, but of what appears to be the airline business model. A day or so before our flight I received an email to check in. I went to the website and tried to pick seats and it appeared as if all the seats but a few were unavailable, and those few required me to pay for them. I saw a notice that said you can wait to get a seat when you check baggage, but I thought if there were only 5-6 left I'd better grab two- even if it meant my wife and I wouldn't be seated together. So I paid for two seats. When we got to the airport the lady at the counter was actually able to get us two seats together, and while she admitted that the checking procedure was confusing she couldn't refund my money. Also, I rarely fly American because of the baggage thing so I'm not familiar with how things work, but apparently if you're willing to haul an oversized carry on , they'll check it for you with no charge. Several years ago we flew American and I swore I'd never fly them again, and I forgot. I won't forget again. read more

This is not the first time when America Airlines does it. My kids where flying back to Chicago and the flight was delayed with no frame time. They were in a plane with connection in Dallas, so after few hours of waiting they board the plane to arrive in Dallas and find out that the connection left. The next plane did not fly out because American Airline didn't provide fuel to the plane in time and the pilot went over the 14hr. of approved schedule time. They booked my kids in a hotel full of cockroaches and bedbugs and offered them a flight next day at 12;30 pm. My kids missed the college day and they were late for work. This is getting ridiculous. Ameican Airline get it together because it is not ok to treat people like this when the plain tickets cost and arm and a leg. I believe i will Stick with United Airline from now on. My flight from Austin to Phoenix was scheduled to depart at 3:38 PM. It was delayed to 8:30 pm. Now, its been delayed to 11:30 PM. We didnt even get an explanation of why the flight is delayed. Also, we dont have any guarantees if the 11:30 flight will come through, nor did we get food vouchers. read more

We flew from Vancouver to Austin with 4 bags and when we arrived in Austin, our bags were not there. We were told when we made the claim that our bags would arrive on the next flight that was 1.5 hour later. We asked that they be delivered to our house. After 14 hours we tried to contact the phone number they gave us and it was a recording that said our bags were out on delivery. After another 4 hours we tried the phone number again, only to get the same recording. After being on hold for 45 minutes with American Airline and selecting the option to make a new reservation, I finally got a person who told me to go to a website that all the airlines use for their delivery. (Why didn't the person or the airlines that lost the luggage tell me about this?) Then the website showed a mean looking man with a black truck that they said would deliver our luggage. It also gave his phone number. We called this phone number but nobody answered. Needless to say, 28 hours after we arrived home, we finally got our luggage but the worry about whether we would get our precious items that we were bringing back from our trip and the expensive clothing, purse, boots, coat, etc that I had in the bags made me soooo anxious as I just knew that we would never see the lugguge again. So my question is, why don't they put GPS tracking devices on the bags or something like UPS and Fedex where you can really see where your bags are? read more

I just tried to upgrade my seat to first class on one leg of my trip and was told there was a seat but it was going to cost $1000. I already paid $900 for my regular round trip and the lady who helped me has a crap attitude about it. American has the worse employees in the Austin airport. My husband and I made reservations through my mother's travel agent, to depart on December 22nd from Austin at 6:00 a.m. and arriving in Jamaica at 1:58 p.m. Our nightmare began on this date. We arrived at the airport at 4 a.m., 3 hours in advance of our flight. We attempted to check in through one of the kiosks at the airport, but was told by one of the AA reps to get into the line for checked baggage since we had one bag to ship. We listened to YOUR rep, only to find out an hour and a half later, that we were sent to the wrong line. When I realized we were sent to the wrong line, I asked the only available ticketing agent at the time, a middle-aged, white woman with short hair and glasses, and even though she had no persons in line, she chastised me rudely by stating, "at this point, you have missed your flight and need to get into the correct line and OUT of the priority line, to see if we can get onto another flight on standby." I, of course, was appalled at her candor and tried to explain that it was their own rep who caused this problem for us in the first place. Instead of listening, she shooed me out of the "priority line", without remorse or apology. We joined the "correct" line only to be presented with the same combative attitude by the rest of the AA reps, including the supervisor. I tired to explain over and over that we had a reservation with seats already assigned, but that our seats were given away because one of their own reps sent us to the wrong check-in line. The male representative could care less, a short, middle-aged, white man, who offered no apologies, did nothing to help and when I expressed my dissatisfaction with his attitude, he yelled loudly at me, embarrassing me, stating that if I do not stop arguing with him, he would be "DONE WITH ME!!!". I asked for his name and I was told, per AA's policy, names were not allowed to be given out. I am sure you can check who the reps were on duty on this date and time. I asked him for a supervisor and after visibly defending himself to her, sent her over to speak to us. After I tried to explain the situation to the supervisor, a hispanic looking young lady, she basically told us there was, "nothing she could do!". No apology, no accountability, nothing!!! To add insult to injury, another one of your AA reps, an African American, middle aged woman, in glasses, began to yell at the passengers in line regarding them taking responsibility for knowing the time frames in which to get to the airport to catch their flight. I did not take kindly to her speaking so rudely to the passengers, especially knowing that it was their reps sending people to the wrong lines, I told her to stop yelling at us and get her own employees in check, as they were the ones who caused us to miss our flight. She continued to loudly yell at me and other passengers still in line, until she realized I was no longer responding, and she backed down. Unbelievable! After checking in on standby and reaching the gate, after checking our only bag, I spoke to a couple more reps which eventually led me to a manger in a vest. I do not remember his name, unfortunately, but after explaining what happened, he was visibly shocked at how his employees behaved and recognized that it was their fault that we ended up in this predicament and asked another ticketing agent by the name of John, to help us get to Jamaica the next day, via CHICAGO! OH my goodness. He was literally the ONLY one of your reps who cared, took responsibility and tried to help us. We had to return to our house in Austin that night of the 22nd when we should have already been in Jamaica, and returned to the airport the next day, this time 4 hours prior to our flight because we no longer trusted your ticketing reps. We managed the make the flight from Austin at 8:04 a.m. Once in Chicago, we were awaiting the connecting flight which should have began boarding at 11:40 a.m., only to find out that that flight was delayed until 4 p.m. that evening. Needless to say, after spending the entire day in Chicago's O'Hare's airport, we made the flight at 4, only to be late for our connecting flight from Miami to Kingston. We begged the flight attendant to help us get off the plane first because we only had minutes to get to the next gate. As fate would have it, the flight was held up on the runway and by the time we got to the gate, we were out of time. We still ran in hopes of catching the connecting flight from Miami to Kingston that night, during which I had a terrible fall, from which I am still in terrible pain. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and many damaged joints. After almost completely blacking out and eventually coming to, we made it to the gate where by a miracle, they let us on the flight. We did not receive all of our bags until 4 days later. Horrible airline. Will never use again. read more

Not sure what to do in my case - American Airlines forced checked me at the gate and took my bag to the undercarriage for safe keeping. Needless to say AA lost and I'm out $6,500.00. of materials lost. - American Airlines forced me at the gate to check my bag, lost my bag, found it 7 weeks later, returned it to me with my watch, phone, sunglasses missing. TOTAL loss of about $5,100.00 (Again I didn't check my bag in as it was carry on but was forced to check it in at the gate while on-boarding the plan... $5,100.00 worth of materials missing. I have receipts for everything showing the total price of loss items at $5,100. Now I'm being told that the max they will give me is $1,500.00 (I've had my watch for 6 days worth $4570.00) and American Airlines is telling me that the max is $1,500.00 that they will give me for loosing my stuff that I clearly didn't want to check in. Even though Ive been on 3 planes with the same bag as carry-on and my last leg from Dallas to Austin they forced checked me art the gate and now they are telling me this(???) Lets be clear here I did not want to check in my bag... Is this how American Airlines treats their paying customers after losing a customers bag/materials. Is there anything I can do? Please help! When out flight got cancelled the customer service rep was very uninformative and cryptic with her details of what comes next. Honestly i don't think she really knew. While I made a mistake online with ticketing, the staff was very dismissive of me and continued to interrupt me when I was speaking. I was trying to get to a funeral and when explaining it, the ticketing agent wouldn't let me finish a sentence before shooing me away. Total lack of sympathy and curtesy. I wasn't trying to get any special treatment. I was just upset and wanted to voice my frustration of my error and I thought I was without hope to make my friend's funeral. read more

American Airlines is a terrible company and I would advise people to avoid using them at all costs. We recently made the grave mistake of flying with them for our 10th anniversary and it was a painful experience. It started with a simple mechanical delay which is not ideal but it happens. We jumped in line to talk to the American Airlines representative but the line was moving incredibly slow so we called to see if we could get help over the phone faster. We did reach someone and she told us that they could re-book us on a flight with British Airways but we had to talk to someone in person since it was an international flight. She told us that we could talk to any American Airlines representative rather than waiting at our original gate. We got out of line and found another representative a few gates away who had no one in her line. She was extremely rude from the start and acted like just speaking to us was an incredible inconvenience for her. After about a minute of looking at her computer she stopped and in a very frustrated voice said that she simply didn't have time to bother with us and we needed to go back to our original gate. We made our way back to our original gate and waited for what ended up being about two hours from when we were originally scheduled to board the plane until we actually made it to the front of the line to speak with the gate agent. This agent was nice enough but seemed generally clueless. After a notable amount of time talking to us he finally assured us that we were booked on a British Airways flight and our bags were being redirected for us but we needed to go confirm with British Airways and get our updated boarding passes from them. We walked out of security to the main desks at the front of the airport and talked to the British Airways agents but they insisted that we were only showing as standby for a full flight and that she had no visibility into where our bags were. At this point we were already a few hours into a very frustrating experience dealing with extremely rude and unhelpful American Airline staff but we clearly needed to go back to the American Airlines counted to get things straightened out. At the counter, we talked to a new agent who told us once again that they had re-booked us for a British Airlines flight and that our bags had been redirected. After going back and forth for a while we finally asked her to please walk the 30 feet over to the British Airlines representative to hear directly from them that we were not showing as having confirmed seats on their flight. She finally agreed and after talking to them returned to tell us that it was true that we were only on stand-by and the best we could do is wait a couple more hours and hope for the best. We asked her if there was anything more they could do including at least securing seats for us on the next available flight since the British Airways flight was not sounding promising and she said we needed to speak with the manager on duty and directed us to him. As horrible as our experience with American had been up to this point, it was about to get much worse. We were clearly upset at this point and my wife was literally near tears because of the way American Airlines was treating us through this whole ordeal. We walked to the manager on duty and start talking and he immediately starts talking down to us and telling us that he won't help us unless we first promise to him that we're going to behave and not curse (I admit, I did use one single curse word this entire day). We were shocked and offended by him and I told him that I'm not going to play his demeaning games but that I had no intention of raising my voice or cursing or anything else and I just desperately needed him to help us. He adamantly refused to help and simply continued being insulting and rude talking down to my wife (who was literally in tears by this point) and I. My wife realized that I was getting extremely offended and frustrated at this point so she asked me to step away so she could try reasoning with this monster of a "manager". I did step away only because I realized that we had no other choice and I was going to lose my temper if I stuck around. I stepped back and called American Airlines because I wanted to report the terrible behavior of this manager who still had my wife sobbing in tears as she pleaded with him to help us. Unfortunately, he realized that I was calling American Airlines to report him which prompted him to tell me wife to get away from him and that no one from American Airlines was going to help us. We finally managed to work with British Airlines to get to Ireland although we spent our actual 10th anniversary evening in seats in different parts of the plane (the best they could do because of the full flight), we lost most of our first day in Ireland because of the delays, and American ended up losing our bags so we spent our first two days of our trip without our belongings. read more
