I recently been taking lots of cross-country trips and have flown on different airlines and in my opinion, American is the worst one of all. First of all, their seats don't have TVs, and the only entertainment option you have on a long flight is to log into their Wi-Fi and watch something on your phone. Second, their legroom is probably one of the worst across the major airlines. If the person in front of you reclines their seat, you are stuck. I am 5'9" and the back of the chair in front of me hit my knees for the whole flight across the country. Third, their planes are filthy. Sure they come through and wipe down the seats, but the ceilings and overhead bins were filthy and stained. Overall, there are better choices to fly cross-country, and I would not go out of my way to fly on American again.

We used AA for flying to Chicago as well as returning to Miami. Everything went well and our flights took off on time. No complaints. No.incidents. We were on an AirBus each way and they are more comfortable than the Boeing 737. There's an inch more in roominess in the seating area. The flight attendants were friendly and we received the delicious Biscoff cookie with our coffee. We had purchased snacks at Hudson's anyways so all was good.

I want flights to leave close to schedule, employees to be helpful, and the overall experience to be stress-free. Based on this trip, I'd say the airline accomplished exactly that. Making the reservation online took less than fifteen minutes. The website was easy to understand, and I liked that there weren't any surprises during checkout. Everything from baggage allowances to optional extras was explained clearly before payment, which made the booking process feel transparent. The evening before departure I checked in online and saved my boarding pass to my phone. The process was quick, and it meant I didn't have to spend unnecessary time at the airport the next morning. After arriving, I headed directly to the baggage drop area. Even though several flights were departing around the same time, the staff kept passengers moving efficiently. Everyone I interacted with was polite and willing to answer questions without making travelers feel like they were slowing things down. Once through security, I had enough time to grab a drink and relax before boarding. The departure gate remained well organized, and updates were announced regularly whenever boarding preparations progressed. When boarding finally started, everything happened in a calm and orderly manner. The gate agents politely reminded passengers to wait for their boarding groups, which made entering the aircraft much smoother than I've experienced on some other airlines. The cabin looked spotless when I stepped onboard. The windows were clean, the seats appeared well maintained, and there wasn't any leftover trash from previous passengers. My seat provided reasonable comfort, and I had enough room to store my backpack underneath without losing too much legroom. Not long after takeoff, the cabin crew began serving refreshments. What impressed me most was how approachable they were. Every request seemed to be handled with patience, whether someone needed extra water, assistance finding overhead space, or help understanding a connection after arrival. At one point, a passenger wasn't feeling well, and the crew responded immediately. They checked on the passenger several times, brought water, and handled the situation professionally without causing unnecessary concern among everyone else. Seeing that level of attentiveness left a positive impression. The remainder of the flight was calm. I spent some time reading, enjoyed the snack that was provided, and appreciated the frequent updates from the captain about our progress. Those announcements helped the flight feel shorter because passengers always knew what was happening. As we approached our destination, the crew prepared the cabin efficiently while still taking time to thank passengers individually as they walked through the aisle one last time. It's a simple gesture, but it made the experience feel a little more personal. After landing, we reached the gate quickly, and baggage delivery was surprisingly fast. My suitcase arrived without any damage, allowing me to leave the airport without spending much extra time waiting around. Overall, this trip reminded me that a good airline experience doesn't need to be filled with luxury amenities. Friendly employees, a clean cabin, clear communication, and dependable service can make an ordinary flight feel genuinely enjoyable. I'd be perfectly happy choosing this airline again for a future trip.

Worst flying experience yet. We were delayed leaving Phoenix because American Airlines was short one flight attendant for our flight. We finally were able to take off, but we were forced to circle because there was an issue at OHare airport. They finally allowed us to land but we were then stuck on the runway, as they didn't have a gate available for us. I missed my connecting flight. The American Airlines staff at the gate were rude and acted like it was bother to assist me in re booking my flight. They finally booked me on an United flight the following morning. No offer of a hotel or food vouchers. OHare staff did finally offer us cots, pillows and blankets but cots were set up in the middle of the busy concourse. Will never fly American again read more

American STINKS!!! They cancelled my original flight time, didn't tell me, and I don't leave until HOURS later despite showing up 2 hr early as dictated and paying an exorbitant price for the time I needed to leave. They did NOTHING to compensate me, not even comp the bag charge. read more

We have had nonstop trouble with them we were supposed to be at our destination in Arizona at 11pm on Dec. 22nd with only one connection in between, due to problems on their end they kept bumping the time later and later for 3 hours, finally get told arrive in Arizona at 11 am on Dec. 23rd....we are waitng again due to problems on their end...I took 3 days off of work to see family I haven't had the chance to see in almost 10 years, it appears now with the later and later time bumps, I might get a day and a half with them if I'm lucky, will never fly with them again and now they are losing customer from family and friends as well...to think I paid money for a plane when we could of arrived by car at about the same time read more

One star because yelp does not allow me to put cero stars... #CustomerService #Fail w @AmericanAir Delayed flight from SFO to ORD. Lost my connection to BDL. Had to wait from 11pm to 7:30 am at the Terminal due to their incompetence. They got me a voucher for a hotel. I was told to go outside and wait for the shuttle. 40 minutes and no shuttle ! I called the hotel Holiday Inn Express of Vernon Hills and they told me they don't provide shuttles to the Chicago airport! In fact, the hotel is not even in the area. Taxi costs $68 one-way! I called AA and "Miguel" told me that I would need to talk to AA staff at the airport, but all counters were empty! Worst airline ever! read more

American Airlines does not like their customers. I am a very frequent American Airlines traveler - I got sucked in a few years back & have been leery of switching to an airline where I have no status. I think it might be time to cut the cord. Here is what happened to me on Wednesday, May 21: I had a flight from Chicago (O'Hare) to San Antonio at 10:45am. I arrived at the airport at 9:50am (running late due to extremely heavy traffic). After a short line, at 10:01am, I attempted to check-in using a self-service kiosk. The self-service machine somehow malfunctioned and got stuck on a "processing your request" page. I asked for help from a customer service agent, who could not get the machine back on-line (after trying for 2-3 minutes). When I went to another machine to check-in, the clock struck 10:06am. As this was withing the 40 minutes cut-off, the machine would not check me in. When I asked the SAME customer service agent for help, she said that it was my fault for being late, they could not do anything, and sent me to a ridiculously long line for re-booking. When I got to the front of the line, to a new customer service agent, I told her the story. She said that nobody could do anything and that I should have been at the airport 90 minutes before my flight. THEN, I heard her tell the agent next to her about my story (while they were away from the computer, they thought out of earshot). She used profanity and called me an idiot. Granted, I was late. But I was at the machine well before the cut-off - and she knew it. The employees of this horrible company will do whatever they can to make sure that they are doing the least amount possible for their customers. They are rude, and clearly could care less about providing a consistent, pleasant service. Good bye, AA. read more

Simply so disappointed... I flew to Hawaii from Chicago on 7/14/08. It was 9 hour flight then... they served a drink TWICE through out the entire flight, selling $6 chips and $10 cold sandwich... I fly to Japan time to time, 12-14 hour flight, and there are at least two small meals and several drinks served. It was a domestic flight but how could anybody survive with two drinks? I drink more than half gallon of water during 8 hour of work, so simply I couldn't believe AA did even take this route... Then, guess what... on the way back to Chicago (we were more prepared with food AND drinks), they served ONE drink... Is this a joke? Of course people are constantly walking around to get drink and food (unsafe). I suppose they are short staffed, but it was beyond ridiculous... how are they planning to stay in business? I can give ONE STAR for the stuff... they were overall nice and polite. it is just the fact that AA is not providing appropriate business to customers anymore. VERY DISAPPOINTING... read more

This airline deserves no stars, I traveled with them four flights prior to the one I am about to get on and have had nothing but bad service everytime. While checking bags which I hate doing but my wife always needs to do; at 5:30 in the morning the lines are hella long. Why who knows or maybe it's because first class has two check in ladies and 1 coach meanwhile firstclass check in is like 5 people deep. Coach hmm maybe 50+. So I get to the front of the line and what happens next... all boarding on flight 1430 move to the front of the line bc your dumb a"" got to the airport too late to check bags be4 your flight. Finally lady checking in has the worst attitude in the world possibly bc she is alone checking in coach. Gearing up now to board flight 444 for yet another terrible aa flight. How I wish this was southwest airlines. Thank goodness I'm tired as hell and will sleep all the whole way. This was posted from my iphone, thus the reason why it it short and not so sweet. Look out for more reviews shortly, I am going to get back in the saddle and hopefully visit more 5 star locations...Hopefully!! read more

WOW. I fly american all the time. 25+ flights per year. Those flight attendants are FIERCE and CRUEL. SO bitter, unhelpful, and MEAN. I hate flying with these monsters. ON time ????????????? forget about it. THey blame the weather for all their mechanical and logistical mishaps. It is really ashame. I really love flying. But this flying american lately is a NIGHTMARE. I would rather walk. And the terminals are dated and shabby. read more

American tried to leave me in Toronto #4187 last week. Gate agent lied and told me all other flights were full on other airlines and that I had to wait until the next day to get home. Fortunately, I knew otherwise from my traveling companions who were on other planes, half empty and leaving on time. Do not fly this airline. read more

Wow. No wonder this airline is nearly belly up. Every employee I've encountered seems absolutely miserable. The troubles of the company are showing up in the faces and attitudes of their associates. Note to self, chose Southwest airlines whenever you can. This is no way to run a rail road. read more

TRAVELER TIP I am giving AA a big thumbs down because of there policies regarding round trip tickets. I hold a AA credit card ( for the past 30 years which they are making huge % on for purchases) and I am also a frequent flyer w status. I purchase a round trip tickets and needed to change the out going flight. They have a 150 change fee ( which alone is ridiculous) plus fare difference. So here's the deal I can buy a new one way ticket for less than it cost to exchange the ticket. They do not allow this. So you actually are paying more than twice for that leg of the flight. Besides that if I/u purchase a new one way ticket you loose the last leg of the flight. Or basically lose the whole ticket. Bad customer service for an airline in trouble. How do they expect customers to pay all these fees and have no value on what they purchased. Why should you pay more than what a new ticket cost on line for the same out going flight. The agent also told me if I purchased the new one way ticket which I could do ( instead of the change fees plus booking fee) and wanted to keep the original return it would be an additional 1000.00 extra for the return because they would have to reissue the last leg of the flight to a one way ticket. Crazy Rules. The tickets now on line three days before travel are less than when I booked them months ago. So shouldn't tickets be less when you book earlier?? SO TRAVELERS/ PARENTS IF YOU HAVE STUDENTS AT SCHOOL AND THEIR IS A CHANCE THAT THEY MAY HAVE TO CHANGE A FLIGHT DUE TO CLASS SCHEDULE, HOLIDAYS, ILLNESS, ETC DO NOT BOOK AMERICAN AIRLINE!!! OR IF YOU MUST BOOK AA BOOK ONE WAY TICKETS BECAUSE YOU GET SCREWED ON CHANGES WITH COST , WILL LOOSE THE SECOND LEG OF THE FLIGHT (RETURN) IF YOU DON'T PAY THEIR CHANGE FEES. IF YOU BOOK ONEWAY TICKETS EACH WAY AT LEAST U WILL ONLY PAY FOR THAT TICKET END. There are so many choices of airlines. I'm done with AA. I have supported there airline for years with credit cards and flights. Poor customer service and policies. Negative stars!!! read more

12 hour flight... Not only do you not get your own personal TV, your only entertainment option is watching a not-so-great movie that is currently available on video. I recommend any other carrier for international travel. Oh, also, you can't sign up for the reward program because they don't answer the telephone & the website sign-up is broken. read more

Not much to say here,it's pretty much a run-of-the-mill airline. Its Economy is somewhat sub-par,although a slight bit better than United or US Airways,monitors are the down-the-aisle kind,..but at least it's NBC instead of B-movies. Good flight attendants and decent seats,but seriously it could do with free food and individual TVs The first class has good stuff though,but even it doesn't compete well with the low costs Economy classes when it comes to service. Fly it if you have no other choice and/or the alternative is United,but otherwise try somewhere else,because although it isn't horrible it's not good either. read more

The flight from JFK to DCA was scheduled for 5:05 PM. At 4:40 PM, the airline told us that the plane for the flight was inbound from Raleigh and that it would land at 5:43 PM and the plane would depart at 6:05PM. Until 4:40 PM, the flight was listed as being on time. Clearly the airline knew that the flight was substantially delayed much earlier than 4:40 PM, and yet carelessly (or deliberately) failed to tell passengers. By delaying providing the information, the airline foreclosed passengers from seeking alterntive transporation to DCA. This is a callous disregard of passenger convenience and rights. read more

Regarding conduct of the American Airlines Crew of Flight 2224, on October 7, 2013 where 2 critical questions need to be answered: Why did the crew of Flight 2224 violate blatant safety policies and FAA regulations regarding seatbelts? Why did the crew of Flight 2224 allow the person violating the ticket policy to sit inappropriately in almost 2 seats without asking him to leave the aircraft? After arriving at our seats there was already someone sitting in the aisle seat also sitting in approximately 60% of one of our seats. We both could not buckle in for safety and were sitting almost on top of each other in one seat. The flight attendant indicated (direct quote) "you will be fine". We were forced to leave the aircraft for safety reasons and American Airlines has done nothing to remedy this huge inconvenience that it caused us. We are very concerned that similar safety issues may be overlooked in the future to the detriment of other passengers. read more

~ On 2-7-2014, a nice lady @ the service desk of AA was very very helpful. She made my 4:20p (FLT2225) flight from Chgo to Seattle, Wa., less stressful. I hope she's in line for a raise, b/c her kindness won't go unnoticed. Goes to show u never know who u are entertaining... GOD BLESS read more

My flight from O'Hare (Chicago) to Los Angeles was not that great. The customer service at the gate was poor. The staff was very unorganized, rude, and condescending. The flight attendants were also rude on the flight and rolled their eyes at other passengers. Not a great feeling since I have a degree in Hospitality Management and I wanted to give them a lesson on the proper way to handle customers. I wrote AA about my experience... we will see what happens. read more

American Airlines has totally lost my respect. The ticket agent randomly placed a hold on a flight for me which knocked off the actual flight I wanted (which was on hold). Worst thing is I wasn't even aware of this until I tried to purchase my flight and it wasn't there. Upon calling customer service, Nila, the supervisor was rude, practically calling me a liar, because their agents are trained to never do such a thing. Well, they did, and now my flight has gone up in price plus they are charging me an extra 25.00 fee for booking by phone to correct their mistake! All I can say is bye bye American, hello United. And there goes my credit card as well. read more

We recently took a trip from SFO to Chicago to Dublin, Ireland SUMMARY: Even IF American were to give you a free ticket...choose another carrier...the experience was HORRIBLE!!!!! Chicago-Dublin: Old 767-300 aircraft (possibly 20 + yrs old and NEVER updated) Bad spacing between seats/horrible, chinch food not fit for human consumption/horrible storage space and horrible TV monitors that were so old that even sentences would "bleed" over But, not only about the aircraft...the gate agents at K-20 at O'Hare were the rudest I have ever had to deal with in all of my international/Domestic travels...they make their own rules at the gate!!! My recommendation...fly a foreign carrier...this was my first and last experience to be with American They just confirmed what i had from sources prior to my travel...they know HOW NOT TO TREAT a CUSTOMER!!!! This is a horrible company, and I would recommend flying with another airlines if possible. We booked a flight with them in February for a trip in December. In October we receive a notice that our flight is no longer available and they will either put us on a flight that will arrive a day early or a day late. No big deal for them, but for us we either have to make lodging arrangements to stay an extra day, or lose a day which we already paid for. We called American airline customer service who never apologized or offered to compensate us in any way for not being able to fulfill their end of the transaction. Rather they simply stated that is their policy, and too bad. So, although we can not be properly compensated for their mess up the least we can do is let as many people as possible know how bad their service and policies are in an effort to help us lowly customers not get screwed by an uncaring, and unprofessional company like american airlines. read more

American Airlines is the worst! We will never fly with them again! We were flying with a large group from Madrid to Chicago. Our flight with Iberra was delayed for 2 hours due to engine problems. Once in Chicago they tried to expedite our group through customs. My daughter was randomly chosen to be searched in Madrid and again at Ohara! Twice in one day! Because of the search we were late to our connecting flight with American Airlines! Our group told AA that we were on our way, but the told them to get on the plane or the plane would leave without them too. Needless to say we were on standby for the next two flights! We are still waiting for a flight home! read more

We flew an early morning flight (6:00am) from ORD to PHL on American/US Air this past Friday. We could not believe how aggressive the flight attendants were in hawking the American Airlines credit cards! They took about half the flight going up and down aisles with a heavy personal sell on the cards (commission? corporate instructions?). In fact, they woke up a woman sleeping in a window seat near me to give her the sales talk!! We flew the same route back yesterday on United with no such sales pitch. (We told the United attendants about this and they were laughing about it most of the flight.) Avoid American/US Air now unless you like hearing a sales pitch for at least an hour of your flight. In a weird way, I thought of "Death of a Salesman," "Glengarry Glen Ross," and "Tin Men"! Yes, the whole thing was pathetic!! read more

I was traveling on Sep 10, at o'hare airport for an international flight. While I was waiting near the boarding gate, I heard my name was called, so I went to the counter and talked to one of the AA agents. The agent (a lady) there told me that the seat I reserved cannot be seated, then I asked for the reason; She then told me " the seat is bad, it cannot be seated"; I asked again "what do you mean by the seat is bad", she then replied that the seat is broken, it cannot be seated. I will arrange you to another seat. I was surprised at that moment since I never encountered this kind of seat-is-broken issue during air traveling in the past and told her the seat I reserved is a preferred seat and I paid extra money for that seat. The seat that she arranged is a downgrade. Then I asked if there is other seat available that is similar to the one I reserved originally (with extra leg room), for example the row near the bathroom. She managed to find one. So far so good. But after I boarded the flight and then found out the seat I reversed originally was being taken by another passenger, and I realized that the seat-is-broken issue which the agent told me is a lie. I understand that sometimes the agent and flight attendant need to make special arrangement for make people to sit together or accommodate an elite member. But I, as a normal people, like anybody else, do not want to be fooled by this kind of seat-is-broken lie. read more

Awful experience for our honeymoon. Had to pay an extra $900 to get a flight the next day. Had trouble checking in online and at the airport. They didn't even try anything to let us sit together. Never again will we fly American or US airways read more

I had to rebook twice in one day trying to get from chicago to nyc. I spent over 12 hours in the airport just for them to cancel our flight and nothing will be available for 3 days. Luckily i flew into boston the next day and took a train. But i lost more time abd mobey than i should've had. P.s. The crew members are lazy and slow. And they could never provide with any ligit info. Bad experience. No compensation. Not even a sorry. read more

Ok guys.... I never rant but this really Chapped my ass.... In March 2015 my wife was rushed to the emergency room while seven months pregnant with our first child. During this time, I was out of town. I went to American Airlines in hopes to catch the next flight home to be with my wife whom may be delivering our first child two months early. Situation was unknown and I was in a complete panic. I just wanted to get home. Needless to say American Airlines was of no help and did not care of my situation. They just wanted to charge me $650 for a flight home. I walked over to another airline and they offered me a ticket home that day for a third of the price. They listened and didn't ask for proof. It took several emails with American Airlines and proof of my wife's hospital stay just to receive a credit for my return flight which I didn't receive confirmation of credit until April 2015. Fast forward to January 2016 and I am in need to take a trip since the birth of our son in March with hopes to apply my credit and pay the difference of the airfare. I followed the instructions in their email on how to book my flight. To my surprise they told me I had to fly within the tickets validity date. Well, what the heck does that mean? That means since I booked my initial ticket in February of 2015 I had to take a trip by February 2016. This is NOT what the email actually said. American Airlines assumes their customers understands this terminology "ticket validity date". I obviously did know what that meant. Did you? Plus, I couldn't fathom the thought of taking a flight within American Airlines "ticket validity date" until my wife and I felt comfortable to do so. So again to my disappointment and several emails to American Airlines they will not honor my credit...which is a whopping $156. Apparently customer retention isn't worth $156 to American Airlines. The only bright spot to this entire story is that my wife gave birth 2 months early to my son. If American Airlines would just have a heart and hear someone's story before citing script they would have many more satisfied customers. The most rude agents and flight personnel i have ever delt with. If I could Rate them a zero I would. I will never fly American Airlines again. The flight attendant was yelling at the passengers and telling them they were not ever welcome here again. And the gate agent made every one in line feel b littled. Like we were bothering her trying to check our bags when they ran out of room. read more

Just flown 743 from Philly to Chicago. Had the rudest treatment I ever experienced. Couldn't make my mind up whether it was rude, ignorant or racist. The apology should have made me feel better. On Sunday, Feb 21st, I was sitting in a hotel room at the Chicago airport when i should be sitting on an American Airline flight returning to LAX. I had flown to Iowa to see a special needs college program for my daughter. I showed up at Chicago airport, presented myself to American Airlines to check into my flight from Chicago to LAX 2 hours early only to be told that because I had decided to drive from Cedar Rapids Iowa rather than take the tiny little plane from Cedar Rapids to Chicago that this voided my flight back to LAX. So, if you have a two part flight, and for some reason you don't get on the flight, it is American Airlines policy to void the entire ticket. Since the Cedar Rapids to Chicago flight was about an hour, it was going to take an hour to check into the flight and then I was going to have to wait at the Chicago airport for another hour and a half once I got to the terminal, it made sense to drive to Chicago. Then, while giving me this bad news, American Airlines told me that in order to get on the flight back to LA for which I had already purchased a ticket, I would have to buy another ticket at $510.00 AND pay them an extra $50.00 in "reticketing" fees. At no point did the American Airline staff say anything to soften the blow. She did speak with her supervisor, who also reported without emotion that my husband and I were basically out of luck. At no point did they say,"Let's see what we can do to help.:" Or perhaps, "We don't have room, let me see when is the next flight" or "Try this other airlines." or even... "Here is what you need to do to make a complaint and request a refund." I write this so that others may be aware of this absurd policy of American Airlines. So buyer beware... I walked straight over to Virgin Airlines (always terrific with customer service) and they said they were fully booked, but to try Spirit Airlines. Spirit kindly got me on a flight leaving tomorrow AM at 6 and had tickets starting at $69.00!!!! Love this airline for all of its kindness courtesy. Please share this with others so that they will avoid the financial and personal hardship being experienced by my family who already has enough on their plate without having to deal with this nuisance. As a social worker, this was a true financial hardship for us. What would have happened had this been one of my children who might not have an empty credit card for such an emergency situation? read more

Unprofessional to let your passengers know the flight has been delayed when everybody has been boarded, at the expected time of departure (5.00 am). This was my first experience with aa and this is not good. On top of that, there were 3 gate changes and the stewardesses are just sitting there laughing and yelling not allowing passengers to sleep. Wish it could be no stars. On a trip to Kauai, we had one stop thru Phoenix each way. every flight was delayed. Ord to Phx for 1 hour, mechanical problem. Phx to Lih, 11 hour delay, after several hours waiting, we got on the original plane, taxied a bit and went back to the gate with warning lights in the cockpit. Deplaned. Changed planes. Customer service desk said to go to aa.com to complain. She was useless. Got updates on my phone during delay, but the gate attendant said they were wrong, and I should ignore them. Finally left at 9 pm. Arrived in Lih Kauai at 1 am. Dollar car Waited for us! See dollar car review. On our return, the flight crew was not there! Had to wait an hour. Told the crew did not know they were working! Daily flight,how can you not know! Arrived late on Phx, 30 minutes befor final flight home was to leave. But. That flight was delayed too! 1 hour mechanical delay. So, 4 flights, all delayed. Have sent 4 complaints to American Airlines. Still waiting for a reply 9 days after they acknowledged the emails. Don't fly American Airlines if you can avoid it. read more

WORST...AIRLINE...EVER! Magdalena, sarcastic, rude, and zero people skills...Virginia, a supervisor, very combative, rude, and ZERO people skills. My flight was delayed due to "too much inbound traffic" by an hour and a half. Still made it to my gate with my connection sitting at the gate and was refused boarding. Asked for the lounge to get another flight, lounged closed at 10, how as an employee can you not know this? When I got back to "customer assistance", the line was at least 50 deep with people from the same flight I was on. Magdalena and Virginia both had confrontations with other customers while I waited. When I declined the ONE option given, Virginia refused to "assist" me and sent me to the black phones. They were ZERO help as well. Now I'm sitting here for minimum of 2 hours but will likely be 24 hours. AA, you should be ashamed and I am surprised you are still in operations. If I could give ZERO stars, like your staff's people skills, I would. read more

American Airlines baggage service is horrendous. Flight from Omaha to Chicago flight 3679 landed 45 minutes ago. We still do not have our luggage. Been standing here now for 30 minutes at the O'Hare Carousel. Change your carrier. Or carry your bags on. Absolutely unacceptable. Horrible horrible horrible. read more

I had the great pleasure of flying AA0087 from London Heathrow to O'Hare International on Thursday 3rd November. The flight was scheduled to be 9 hours in a Boeing 767-300.... The benefit of American Airlines is that they also allow you to travel in time - that's how good they are! It was like flying in the 1980's! No entertainment in the seats - only an ancient screen hanging over the aisle! Of course, the earphones did not work...such a pleasure to enjoy films on a silent movie basis - just like the 1920's but with colour (ish). The food was an absolute disaster! Breakfast was a tablespoon of scrambled egg served with two small pancakes; halfway through the flight a rather nice chocolate ice cream tub - and for lunch a pathetic little 'pizza twist' the size of Donald Trump's index finger! My wife flew on a similar service - she had a Boeing 777 - food coming all the time, 100s of films to choose from in the seat... What difference. Clearly, those who travel during the week with American are less appreciated than those flying at weekends. If you do chose to fly this airline, don't say you haven't been warned! With airlines like Virgin Atlantic and Emirates around - why on earth would anyone chose American?? read more

After flying 2 million miles on American, I finally have had enough. The management at AA obviously doesn't care about the people that pay the bills, the customer, and will sacrifice standards to make a little more money. They have regressed from a first rate airline to a cattle car with wings. Most of their employees are probably sick of the bad management and unfortunately it shows in the poor service. AA First Class is very similar now to coach on foreign airlines. Too bad American Airlines, your not making America Great Again! read more

This airport is small (to me) considering how large the city of Chicago is and a little outdated. There isn't much room to move in the gates. There are a few stations for charging devices, but when flights are delayed, there are definitely not enough. More outlets or charging stations would be beneficial. There are plenty of food options for meals and snacks. The car rental pick up process is also fairly smooth and easy to get to via train. A decent airport, but needs more charging areas.

An airport isn't necessarily a place to enjoy yourself, but in the event you have to do so, your choices are minimal here.

Leading up to our trip, we kept receiving email confirmations that everything was on time no issues at all. Then, the moment we arrived at the airport, we were blindsided with an email saying our flight was CANCELLED. No warning. No heads-up. Just canceled. The only options given were to rebook or take a refund. The earliest available rebooking wasn't until Tuesday, which completely ruined our plans, so we were forced to take a refund and book last-minute tickets with United Airlines costing us significantly more money out of pocket. We were told our baggage would be transferred to our return flight, which added to the confusion and stress. Unfortunately, it didn't end there. On our way back from Puerto Rico, we were scheduled again for a 12:29 PM flight. Throughout the day, we kept getting delay notifications one after another until the last update pushed the flight all the way to 2:59 AM. We waited, checked in, and then unbelievably the flight was CANCELLED again. At that point, there was little to no help from staff. We were told to go to the Spirit desk, leaving us scrambling around the airport, trying to figure out how to retrieve our luggage from baggage claim, rebook flights, and then go back through TSA all over again. It was chaotic, exhausting, and completely disorganized. Once again, no available flights until Monday or Tuesday. Rebooking with Spirit would have meant more delays, more uncertainty, and more money wasted with zero guarantee the flight wouldn't be canceled AGAIN. So we had no choice but to request another refund and book with United Airlines spending even more money just to get home. This entire experience was stressful, expensive, and completely avoidable with proper communication and customer support. Spirit Airlines showed zero reliability and zero accountability. Never EVER flying with Spirit again. The "cheap" price is not worth the headache, the risk, or the extra costs you'll end up paying in the end. Huge thanks to United Airlines for actually getting us home safely.

Sit where I tell you." My complaint is not about changing seats. I completely understand that families sometimes need to be seated together. My complaint is about the disrespectful and humiliating way I was treated. When I asked for the flight attendant's name, he refused to provide it. After landing, I went to Frontier Customer Service expecting someone to listen to my complaint. Instead, they refused to help me or direct me to a supervisor. This happened today, July 29, 2026, on Flight F9 67 from Punta Cana (PUJ) to Miami (MIA). No passenger deserves to be treated this way. This experience was humiliating and completely unacceptable. Frontier needs to do a much better job training its employees in basic customer service and respect.

I read several JetBlue reviews via yelp prior to this flight to help calm pre-flight jitters because I have never flown with JetBlue. I had to remind myself that I once flew with Spirit Airlines to New Orleans, Louisiana for crying out loud. And most know that Spirit does not have the best reputation. As for my airport experience, surprisingly, TSA was not crowded at all! Other than my carry-on bag being checked due to me having toothpaste check-in went smooth. At the time, I chuckled with personnel because I knew clearly what it was but leave it to hard-headed me for packing it, hehe. As for the flight gate, it took me forever to find it due to lack of signage. As mentioned, I have never flown JetBlue, so the terminal was one I had never visited. What threw me off was the fact that the only terminal 2 signage I saw was for baggage claim. Eeek! I nearly missed boarding, but I kept on moving until I found the JetBlue gate. Now as for my onboard experience, I wanted to charge my phone as I slept on flight because my phone battery was low. I found that there were no power outlets at all which left me with no other option but to preserve my battery as much as I can enroute. I have to point out that it was unpleasant smelling smoke as the plane prepared to lift off from Chicago, Illinois. It was then, I started to take notice of how outdated everything appeared on this plane as my melatonin kicked in. I slept the majority of the flight, so I had little communication with the flight attendants other than the boarding flight hello, a flight attendant asking me if I wanted a snack as I woke up briefly, and the airplane departure goodbye greeting. And as for the airplane interior, the seat comfort was decent! I did have an acceptable amount of leg room, even with my backpack underneath the seat in front of me. I did love the image of the airplane hovering over states on the seatback television which I could not help but notice while awake. In spite of what the plane did not have, it did have access to XM radio stations & Direct TV channels. I survived this flight with JetBlue and would be open to flying with again, as well as recommending to a friend, relative or colleague after this experience. We ended up having to rent a car and drive from New York to Chicago since (due to busy weekend events) we could not find another direct flight home until late into the evening and at very high prices. The rental car, tolls, and Lyft to get to a rental car cost me over $1000. BEWARE- canceling of flights with very little notice is COMMON for this airline. Also plane was dirty (no cleaning between flights).

Dear Yelp Customers: If you want drama, lies and bullshit then buy your tickets at American Airlines! I fly alot and have flown throughout the country with relatively no issues beyond the regular hiccups. I'm not one that writes in to complain but this one was too good not to share as a warning to any potential customers of American Airlines. I had my flight set for Sunday, August 30th, 2011, via American Airlines to fly from Phoenix, Arizona back to Chicago's O'hare airport. My wife called me first thing Saturday, August 29th, 2011, stating she needed me back because she was sick and needed to go to the hospital and i needed to get back to watch the kids. We have two small children 2 yr. old and 6 month old. I packed up and headed straight for the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. I tried using my phone via the internet to book a flight or change my flight but internet reception was not moving from page to page very well. The taxi cab dropped me off in front of the american airlines check in area. I proceeded to get into line to talk to a customer service representative. After waiting in line for 55 minutes please keep in mind there were only 3 people in front of me but the agents were moving as slow as molasses with a horrible attitude to boot. I finally was served and had hopes of getting on the noon flight back to Chicago. I explained i had a ticket for the next day but needed to book a flight back today and preferred to get on the next flight back to chicago. The agent took my ticket and called someone via a 1-800-# to get permission to change my flight. This took another 15 minutes. I know this because i was getting dangerously close to my 45 minute cut off for the TSA to get on my flight. The agent told me that corporate said that my ticket wasn't worth anything so it couldn't be applied to a transfer. I'm not sure about that. I paid $175 for the ticket. Irregardless, I needed to get back home so i asked how much would a ticket be to get back home. The ticket was $453.70! Anyone that has children knows that you will do about anything for your kids so i agreed to pay for the ticket. As soon as the agent was done booking the ticket she said you can go but your bag cannot go on the plane. I said, "What?" she continued that the flight was no longer accepting bags and oh by the way your next flight back to chicago isn't for another 6 hours so i will bump you to that one. I told her no way that was unacceptable. i needed to get on that flight or to cancel the transaction. The customer service representative said she would cancel the purchase and refund it to my account. For those keeping track i paid $175 for a sunday flight that i didn't take and $453.70 for another saturday, August 29th, 2011, flight that i didn't take because American Airlines customer service representatives are incompetent to say the least. American Airlines now has $628.70 of my money but never have i flown on a their planes back to Chicago. I left the american airlines check in counter after the customer service representative stated three times she would cancel my ticket and refund my money. This obviously never happened thus the fact why im writing this to warn all potential customers of american airlines that their agents lie and never follow through but they will definitely take your money! A long story short i have tried to get my money back and have received resistance from American Airlines so i'm going to make sure that everyone knows what a bunch of lying deuschebags i have been dealing with in hopes to prevent future customers from working with or purchasing their airline tickets through american airlines. The day for me was very stressful to know that my wife was ill to the point she needed medical attention and that my kids were going to hospital with her while i was in Phoenix trying to get back home. The agents for American Airlines did not make it any easier by taking my money and lying to me. I'm working on getting reimbursed and i will be filing a lawsuit against American Airlines to recapture my money and time lost wasted trying to get my money back from these losers. Whatever happened to doing the right thing? I found my way over to the US AIRWAYS desk at the phoenix airport i explained my situation and within 15 minutes i was going through TSA heading towards my gate to get home. I used to fly American Airlines and have a mileage card with them but i will not be flying American Airlines ever again. If you have children you know how i feel. You will do almost anything for your kids and you support businesses that are family orientated that help families. I was in a desperate situation to get home and received a bag full of drama and excuses from American Airlines and lost $683.70 in the process. Last November, my human rights class & I were flying to London to conduct a comparative analysis of the US vs UK legal systems, and miscarriages of justice. So I get to the airport, and it turns out the my Passport won't scan because my golden doodle pup deemed it an appropriate chew toy. Well, the nice attendant decided that it was ok and that she would just go scan my passport at her computer. Well, as she's scanning my passport, the General Manager of American Airlines @ O'hare walks behind her. And mind you, this GM is a monster. 6'2/6'3, blonde, blue eyes, intimidating lady, mid forties, wreaks of the Chicago burbs and Limbaugh. Put differently, she's the soccer mom who will run you the fuck over. Well she snatches my passport right out of the attendants hand, comes up to me and says "sir, you are not flying today." We ask her why, and she just says that it's her call, and that she doesn't have to accept anyone with a damaged passport. Well my prof pulls out her insanely water damaged passport and the not-so-friendly giant tells her how lucky she is that she isn't pulling her off the flight, and that she be thankful. At this point my prof and I start to internally panic, but I quickly come up with a solution. I have my Israeli passport back at home, I can go grab that and take the next flight out. Everyone agrees that, that is acceptable, and my flight is changed to later that day. I make the trek from O'hare back to downtown, go to my apartment, get my passport and head back to the airport. I excitedly show the same attendant my Israeli passport, and guess who creep ups behind her. The blonde giant. Again, she snatches the passport out of her hand, flips through it, looks at me and says "yeah sir you won't be flying today, not with this passport." Well by now I'm just in shock, I don't know what to say anymore. There was a 1cm tear on one of the passport pages. This was apparently grounds to send me back home, again. But then I decided to get creative. I took my passport's to the TSA office, found the head honcho and asked him if he would have any scruples about letting me through, and onto my flight with either my ratty or good passport's. He said that they were both fine; had I only had my chewed up American, I'd just need a second form of ID for verification which I of course had. So I decide to bring him along with me to notify the AA GM that she is being incredibly unreasonable. Before he can even get a word out, she turns bright red and starts screaming at both of us. She threatens to call the cops on me, tells me that I should be thankful that she's protecting myself and everyone else from terrorists by not letting me on the plane, she threaten's to cancel my ticket, and to also charge me the difference for having to move to a later flight. Well then I walk away, there's nothing left I can do. Apparently I'm a dangerous atheist jew w/ a beard whose hell bent on keeping her from protecting her country. So I go downstairs to the carrousels, sit on the phone with AA booking for an hour and finally convince them to rebook me a flight for the morning--keep in mind blondey all together canceled my booking--as long as I was aware that I could get turned away once again. Well, I trek back to downtown to chill at home for a while, head back to the airport a few hours later, and make it through check-in and security like it's nobody else's business. 7hr flight to London. 6hrs worth of a travel time between downtown Chicago and O'Hare. On 9/23/19 My wife and I had a flight to Mobile al.departing at 8pm. It was cancelled with no reason given. I was sent an email and text at 6:29pm that we were being rerouted to Mobile thru Dallas Tx on a flight that left at 5:58 thirty minutes before we received the Text. We were given a hotel voucher for the night and (1) one $12 meal voucher each for (3) Three meals Dinner on 9/23 and Breakfast and Lunch on 9/24 as our new flight was at 1250 on 9/24. We could not eat off of Mc'donalds dollar menu for that. Dinner on 9/23 was 49.78 plus tip. Our Breakfast was 18.56 plus tip Lunch. Our lunch at the airport was 34.98 plus tip. No alcohol was consumed as we are not consumers of alcohol. I also have to pay an additional parking day at Mobile $10. We had 3 tickets to a Paw Patrol concert in Mobile to take our grandson $ 67 each. It took place at 10am the time we were still in Charlotte waiting for our 12:50 pm rescheduled flight. The real issue is trying to explain to a 3-year-old he did not get to see Paw Patrol a show he had been anxiously awaiting because a company has to pay their CEO 12 million dollar a year and some bean counter figured out a way to save a few dollars at the inconvenience a few passengers. My wife is handicapped and had to go thru TSA check again. The extra time standing is very hard on her as she has had back and knee surgery. She also suffers from mental health issue anxiety related and her medicine was on our checked bags as she only had enough on her carry on for the day. There were 2 earlier flights that we were not given an opportunity to book that because I had booked this flight with points which obviously affected the rebooking options. It should be noted that the points used were from being a loyal American Airline customer in the past. I must emphasize from the past as I will only fly American as a last resort in the future. When we arrived at Mobile a day late our luggage was not on the plane. The counter clerk in Mobile was a poorly trained employee that could not determine where our bags were. She provided a 1 800 # and we reported our bags delayed/lost. After I call the number provide it was determined our bags were in the Mobile airport. We were told they would be delivered after 6:30 pm as that was the last delivery run of the day. The next Day Wednesday 9/25 I again called about our bags. I was told they were in Mobile airport and they would call when the lost baggage office opened. There is not a lost baggage office for AA in the airport only Delta has an office to address lost baggage on site. The personal at the ticket counter handle lost bag status as there are employees there at 5:30 am to handle the 4 flights that leave before 10am. I guess multitasking is not a skill required of your employees. Again, I was told my bags would be delivered that day. At 5:30 pm I called again praying my bags would make the 6:30 run but they did not. My bags were finally delivered at 11am CST after calling again Thursday morning. I first tried to file a complaint thru your website. The first attempt I was timed out as I was composing the complaint. I logged on again and this time there was a character limit on your complaint. I am very disappointed that we were used to increase your corporate profits as plane was probably cancelled due to not enough ticket sold to maximize your profit. Just glad everything goes good for your 12 million Dollar CEO. Total additional cost to us a senior citizen living on a fixed income is $290.32. Have a blessed day. First, and without any forewarning to me, a major change was made to my flight leaving on 5/31 from MEM. I was supposed to leave at 5:03PM, the flight was changed to 9:03AM on a different flight. Had I not caught it, it would have been a major inconvenience for me. Not only that, but then I was told "I" would have to pay an additional $200+ if I wanted to switch to a different flight that would leave later in the afternoon. That is complete BS. I didn't ask for the flight change, AA did that. To make matters worse, when I tried to explain the situation to the customer service rep who had a very heavy foreign accent, I finally had to hang up because I couldn't understand a word out of his mouth. I then called the agency through whom I had originally planned the trip. Had it not been for them, I would've had to pay for a change I did not request to get, a flight at least closer to my original departure time. Second, AA has the policy that you can take "2 Items" onto the plane with you but one must be stored under the seat in front of you and the other in the compartment above your seat, which I always do. There are also size constraints for the two items. The onboarding AA employee at the gate had requested several times that folks who had wheels on their luggage to please come forward to have their bag stored for free as there wasn't a lot of storage room on the plane. On my flight from Chicago O'Hare to Manchester NH, there were two young men who sat behind me who were upset with me because I put my laptop in the compartment above and and had starting saying things like, "she stored her "f-ing laptop when it should be under her "f-ing seat!" They continued these comments for several minutes. But what really upset me was, the Stewardess also gave me a hard time and wanted me to put the laptop under the seat in front of me but I couldn't, my purse was there. 1) the instruction was for "2 Items" of a particular size, not bags, purses or what have you, but "2 items, I followed the rules! Second, I had to listen to these two disgusting young men cursing and being extremely rude for better part of 15 minutes while the stewardess did nothing to calm them or help the situation. They were also very rude to an elderly man who mistakenly took the window seat assigned to them, the stewardess wasn't much help with that situation either so I asked the elderly gentleman what his seat number was, and resolved the issue for him. I have always used AA for my flights to/from TN but going forward, I will do my best NOT to ever use their service again. Those young men should have been corrected and weren't and I was made to feel embarrassed for doing the right thing. read more

Terrible Experience with American Airlines Mishandling of Luggage Ruined our Anniversary Trip I am writing this review to expressed my extreme disappointment and frustration with American Airlines mishandling up our luggage, which completely ruined our long anticipated anniversary trip to Jamaica. The way they handled the situation was absolutely unacceptable and left a lasting negative impact on our experience. To begin with, our luggage never arrived at our destination, despite assuredness from the airline that it would be delivered promptly. As a result, my husband and I were left without any clothing to wear for the entirety of our anniversary trip. We had to spend money to purchase swimwear, t-shirts and toiletries, but it was incredibly embarrassing and uncomfortable to be dressed in the same clothes for days on end, especially during special occasions and romantic dinners. The airlines failure to deliver our luggage had a significant impact on our enjoyment of the trip. Upon contacting American Airlines, we were appalled by their lack of concern and professionalism. He offered us Amir $434.15, and a $200 flight credit as compensation for the entire trip, which is an insult, considering the income is in distress we endured. This amount is far from sufficient to cover the cost of replacing our belongings and the emotional toll it took on us. To make matters worse, we received our luggage only one day after returning home. This further exemplifies, the airlines and competence in this regard for their customers needs. By the time we received our belongings, it was too late, and the damage it already been done. Our anniversary trip, which was supposed to be a joyous and memorable occasion, turned into a nightmare. I strongly advise against using American Airlines for any future travel plans. The mishandling of our luggage, lack of empathy, and an adequate compensation has left a deeply disappointed and disillusioned. We expect better service from a reputable airline, especially when it comes to handling such crucial aspects of travel. Just now I called (855) 932-2.O.1.9 ^^@ @^^1 866 335 0678 A gentleman asked me my GOOD NAME! I sighed, I have only one name that is as good as it gets :-) I was telling him that the Al-Fursan was so slow that I couldn't do online check-in and select seats. He was kind of hard to understand. I had to speak same thing twice, that didn't bother me at all but what bothered me is he put me on a MUTE and had the phone on call for 7 minutes, and finally hung up. American Airlines, You definitely need some good mannered customer care people on the phone. A positive mind with good action takes a company to winning ovation. My seat number was k6 and the seat has no cushion whatsoever, I had to stack pillows and blanket to prevent back pain Most incompetent company I've had to deal with.
