Delayed at Dayton so missed the Chicago flight to Los Angeles. Forced to have 14 hour stay in 20° cold Chicago. Because I was planning on being in 90° Los Angeles, dressed wrong for the cold. I was REFUSED my checked luggage, being told it will be waiting for me in L.A. The nice gate staff at Dayton told me one thing, get to Chicago and the very rude gate staff told me different. The Chicago staff treated me nasty, acting like I was bugging them when asking for my luggage and my vouchers. The gate area smells of old clothes, urine, and cooking odors. There were literally five people at gate counter with two lines. Once I finally get up to counter, the male worker told me he had to start checking in the next flight and to move to the other line. It wasn't my fault that lines long and he had people waiting for other flight. I had in wait in the boarding passageway over 20 minutes for the valet bag service, so it was AA fault that had so many people in gate area from two different flights. At least I had my carry-on bag, but no change of clothes. Did I mention, the gate refused to allowed me to get my checked bag. I will never flight AA again. read more

Power plug at seat, should be good. to get some work done with laptop But, outlets some unbelievably shoddy cheap design, you had to hold the power plug pressed in to get power. Ridiculous. We were SUPPOSED to depart from O'hare at 7:00am and arrive at SFO at around 9:30am. First, storms delayed our flight but don't get me wrong--that's Mother Nature and it's commendable to protect us from those feisty T-storms. But we're sleeping (or trying to sleep) on these flimsy cots that make weird noises as we're waiting for our updated flight and when they finally update us, we rush to the gate, only to be informed shortly after that our flight would be delayed another 2 hours. Waiting, waiting, waiting... Whaddya know, another hour delay! So we're mad now--THE STORMS ENDED HOURS AGO! I literally created a yelp account just for this specific complaint. I will never again use American Airlines. I've been at the airport since 9am, and after constant delays and canceled flights, I'm here now, at 8pm. It's one thing to have delayed and canceled flights due to weather, but when your co workers are boarding other airlines to the same destination, MANY HOURS before you, there is a problem. Half the staff is incompetent and doesn't understand what's going on as well. I will never pay a single dollar to American Airlines. Coming and going on this weekend trip has been the worst. First, the app doesn't let me check in because "we were not able to assign seats to one or more of the passengers" We have no idea what this means and are concerned the flight is overbooked. So we rush to get ready and go to the airport. The employee tells me "Oh, sometimes the computer does that. You know, to seat families together". What? Then she tells me I can just get my seats at the gate. I remind her that in order to get to the gate I would need to have a BOARDING PASS. So now I have to go to the kiosk where I get checked in, but still no seats. I go to the gate where the agent tells me the computer system is changing and this sometimes just happens. What? So now we're at the airport 4 hours early. These people don't seem to understand that my time is worth money too. When I sent a complaint to American the response was "we're sorry you were worried that you might not be able to sit with your family". Nothing in my complaint said that...the sitting together crap was something THEIR employee said to me. They also suggested that I should have paid an extra fee to American to have a better seat. So effectively they punished me because I was unwilling to pay extra for a flight that was less than two hours. Now I'm trying to check in for my return flight tomorrow morning. The app will only allow me to check in for myself, not my daughter. I've never had this experience. So I call American and am told I have to go to the American website and send the information to my daughter so she can get her own boarding pass. The other option is for her to download the app and get a boarding pass herself. Ridiculous. I've never had this experience with an airline. Apps are supposed to make our lives more convenient, not cause more aggravation. read more

I have an issue with an upcoming flight so I called American Airlines and was told there is nothing they can do, that I should email customer service for help. I emailed customer service and they have not been responsive. My issue is still outstanding and I am not confident American Airlines will do anything about it. We're sitting at the gate in O'Hara waiting for a paperwork correction. There was a great amount of confusion checking in. The staff seemed to pride itself on nick-picky statements trying to be more bureaucratic than helpful. More that an hour to identify the details in a log book. Seat fee upgrades, checked bag fees, kiosks that you need to check into prior to delivering the bag to be checked in. The plane from San Diego to Charlotte was ancient and this delay cost how many people connecting flights. Delta has reintroduced service and I will make that choice in the future. After the buckle and dime fee upgrades the fares are comparable but a value for customer service sways my choice. Too bad. I'd like To believe an airline with the name American would stand out from the rest as a flagship carrier for our nation. I feel as though I've had to donate my time and labor to increase shareholder profit with this bus... read more

Vouchers. Think twice before volunteering to give up your seat in return for a voucher. They dont make it easy to use. You have to mail it in. You don't get confirmation until they physically get the voucher. Guess what? Today is the deadline and its not in their system. So call back in a couple of days and then see what they will do for me. Sure it seems nice to be able to save some money, but not when your entire trip is put at risk. read more

Our flight was Us airways (operated by american airlines) This was a joke. Neither Us or AA would let me check in online. Once at the airport US sent us to AA about a mile away. The computer still wouldn't let me check in. After getting helping from the worlds dumbest clerk, she slams my brand new suitcase on the belt! I said excuse me did you just throw my bag? She said yes and looked right at me! How rude! Then we get to the gate, we had two adults and 2 minor children and no one sitting together! I told the attendant how I had called and was told that married couples will be seperated before mother and child, The very snotty rude man said I am not breaking up anyone just so you can sit with your child. This mam bear got loud! I said my 8 year old is afraid to fly and YOU WILL NOT make him sit by a stranger! He got quiet and switched some seats for us. JERK! I booked these flights 4 months ago, why wouldn't we be seated together?? Once on the flight it was clear the flight attendants hated their jobs. I've traveled through various airlines and never have a had the worst service in my life! The rudest staff at the check in, the flight attendants, and even calling in to voice my concern. We were traveling to Mexico. We arrived 2 hours early at the check in with only 3 people in front by the time we got to the desk we were informed we could no longer board our flight! They wanted us to reschedule for the next day. Unacceptable! We needed to get there that night for a funeral! They sent us on a 8 hour layover to Los Angeles! Arrived to our destination at almost 7am the next day! We were suppose to be there at around 9pm that same day! On our return trip or connecting flight back to Chicago we left late because the "crew" apparently were lost in the airport! Finally we board and our seats were changed. It was a group of 3 that was traveling. They wanted to separate us. My father was traveling with us which he is if an Elderly age and tends to get nervous traveling. I could not sit with him due to the new seating arrangements! As we are nearing our final destination the captain informs us we have to go to Indianapolis due to weather conditions in Chicago. Chicago had clear skies! No storms of any kind! As we are about to arrive to Indianapolis Captain now informs us we need fuel! If course as I am a nervous flyer add my dad we both panic! We are stuck in a plane with low fuel! We were to arrive at Chicago at about 10pm. Due to this low fuel issue we do not arrive to o'hare till after midnight! It was the very worst flying experience ever. Yet, it does not stop there! I tried calling the compliment/complaint line for a week with no luck of anyone answering. Finally after a week of trying I get someone to answer, she could barely understand me or I her due to her thick accent. She asks for my record locater to look up the flight diversion. She comes back to the lounge only to tell me she can't find the flight. I try to tell her I have the flight information, there was no need for her to put me on hold for that! Now she then claims she can't here me and so I raise my voice so she can hear me. Now she says I'm shouting at her. Which is it then, can she hear me or not? Out of no where she hangs up on me! By far mot my favorite airline, but there is something to be said about the customer service. I was recently on a flight from Chicago Dallas that was delayed after I boarded. When i called customer service they immediately worked with me to reschedule my connecting flight. After getting the news of yet another delay, the flight attendants helped me leave the plane and find another flight. Unfortunately that flight was grounded, but Marzanna swooped in to save the day. She was hopeful, friendly and set me up with options that would help me make my connecting flight. AA planes seem to be old and not the most reliable but they do a darn good job making up for it. Well I am a 21 year traveller of all airlines and I have to say American you have royally screwed up. I have never reviewed an airline but I am soooo pissed I have no choice... Crews simply shrug when I point this out. The new 737 02/2015 configured jet is an epic failure in how the stupid PlayStation device bolted the the seat frames reduces the already pathetic foot space! With an aisle seat the foot room is so bad my size 9 shoes just fit with about 1 inch on each side! What is worse is the placement where only one leg can actually slide forward due to the box being directly in front of my leg leg. I am a registered Yelp poster and frankly I hope someone reaches out as just moving the damn box to the other side of the frame would correct it. The guy who engineered this should really find a new vocation and the dummy that approved the installation needs reassignment to some where he is not able to waste corporate resources. What is worse is the box edge is actually sharp enough to actually cause an injury in turbulence and I can't wait for the first lawsuit to appear. I only wish I could post the photos that I did on Facebook. I guess despite reaching status on you guys I am going to find a more customer considerate airline. Feb 14th was the worst experience I have ever had with an airline. Your employees didn't offer solutions or act as if they cared about my predicament. A sorry and some sincerity goes a long way. Let me explain what happened. Late Sunday evening I received and automated call saying my flight was delayed 39 minutes. No big deal, what's 39 minutes. Then I get a call while I'm filling my rental car full of gas I get another call saying its delayed 10 later than my original flight. 10 hours and going from one day to the next is not a delay. That's a cancellation. Later in the airport one of your employees would say that they probably would have cancelled that flight anyway which made me dread sticking around. So I call from the gas station to see what is going on. The girl I speak with says there is maintenance issues and I said maintenance wouldn't delay a flight 10 hours. She assures me its maintenance. I ask to speak with a manger and she says hold on. 20 minutes of waiting later, pictures enclosed to prove it I speak with a manager that offers me the same thing the girl did. The only difference is the girl sounded a little sympathetic and the manager did not. The manger then tells me it was a weather and I say why didn't the first employee say that. She offered to get me on a flight that would land at 9:17 am but would have to go to Charlotte North Carolina to get a flight home. I say ok and I go to the airport. I go to the kiosk and print boarding passes. The flight from Charlotte to Chicago is not the one she told me about, it's a letter one. I go to service desk and the lady behind the desk says the flight is full and she cannot help me. I said the manager on the phone said she would have me on that flight. She says sorry and that she can't do anything for me. I then go to the gate and meet the first competent employee at your airline. She says she can put me on stand by and we can see what happens. She gets me on. She is Awsome and the only reason I would consider using your airline again. Why did the first employee on the phone not know why the flight was delayed? Why did the computer tell me so late the flight was delayed? Why did I have to fly all the way to Charlotte to find a good employee of AA? Why don't most of your employee act like they care? Even a facial expression of sympathy would help. read more

Terrible customer service!!! I have sacrificed 300,000 miles with Delta to start flying American. I am based inn Charlotte where their hub is located. I a m currently in Chicago at O'Hare. I arrived tot he airport hours earlier than my flight and went to the ticket counter to see if i could get an earlier flight. The gentleman said yes and then attempted to charge me $75 because i do not have gold status. If i had Gold it is free. However, this last segment would actually give me gold status. I asked if there was anything i could do and he said go to the gate and ask. I go the gate they turn me to the customer service counter. The hot mess working the counter has her still all over the desk and is play words with friends on her phone and barely even looks at me. I ask again and she tells me there is nothing she can do and no one to call to see they could help. So i go sit and call Customer Service. I get the same response, then i ask to talk to a supervisor which she puts me on hold and comes back and says we cant change your status but you can pay the $75 and then attempt to apply for a refund. Are you serious? I am not asking for a better status at all because tomorrow when i wake up, guess what? Im Gold status cause i need 1 segment. I am asking for you to wave the $75 for a customer that has already spent thousands and put me on stand by, which is also, not a guarantee, and do what is right for the customer. You bill for everything!!! and i mean everything! Want to choose your seat $$ want to check your bag $$$ want to get on stand by $$$. rediculous!! Next up, United here i come! The American airlines is the most horrible company that I have ever used. Most of the times their flights get cancelled or delayed. It is very annoying! Similar to all the previous cases... today, the flight AA 1143 ORD to STL....we had the same issues! The airplane was delayed, technical issues.... initially the airplane door had problems.... we had to wait for 20 mins.... after they announced that they fixed it... they said that we have to wait until they will repair the generator.... and funally they announced that we need to deplane and wait at the gate in order to send us another plane. The flight attendant at the gate ( blonde lady) was so rude, unprofessional and had no idea of what's goin' on! Completely inconclusive! Eventually, the send us to another gate and change the airplane. The horrible experience kept goin'.... they had nothing to serve.../ no tea, no coffee not hot drinks at all! Only coke! WTF!!!! Did we pay for this god damn flight? Yes or No?????!!!!!! Fortunately!!!! There are many airlines out there to use! read more

My fiancé and I were flying home to get married. Our flight from college to home was fine. On our way back, our first flight was delayed twice. We finally boarded around lunch time and were very hungry and irritated. We receive no in flight service and the landing was the worst landing we had ever had. We had a layover, but because of delays they moved us to a new flight. The first lady we spoke with was rude and answer our question rapidly and did not really help. We found customer service and got our new boarding passes to discover we would have a 3 hour layover. Our original layover was 30 minutes. We waited in the airport for our flight. We watched as the time kept being pushed back. Our flight left at 5:40 pm ET. We were just outside of our final destination when we were inform that the planes landing controls were not working and that there would be emergency vehicles. The pilot could have handle the situation over the loud speaker a little better as to not alarm everyone on board. The landing was smooth and they eventually got it working. We arrived in the airport at 7 pm CT. We received a notification that our bag was delayed and thought that of course it is delayed our flight was delayed. However, during our 4 hours sitting in the airport my bag hadn't managed to make it on our flight. We were told that our bag was placed on the last flight and would be in by 10:17 pm CT. We are about an hour from the airport and wanted to do their delivery service. However, they were unable to deliver it to the dorms or to the hotel we were staying in because the bag was in my name and the hotel was in my husband's name. We decided to hang out in the area and come back later to receive my bag. My bag was not there and neither was the flight. We were then told that they now could deliver the bag to us. So we switched the information to my husband's name. I was waiting for the bag and decided to see if it was in transit to the hotel like they said it would be. I look online and was told my bag has not even been located. The baggage customer service people were super nice and gave my husband and I toiletries bags. However, I feel as if my time was wasted waiting for a bag that wasn't even in transit or even found. The communication was very poor if we would have been told the first time the bag could have been delivered we wouldn't have stayed around. read more

horrible experience with their customer service department. My mother was in a car accident the week of her flight and American refused to refund her for her ticket. We provided them with proof of the accident and a letter from her doctor saying that she was medically unable to fly due to broken ribs. Their entire refund system is done online, which is completely impersonal, and when I called customer service after the refund was denied the girl was rude and seemed to care less about my situation. Awful airlines! Flew from Boston to Chicago. Before boarding the plane we were told we had to check our carry ons because there was no more room in the overhead compartments. Once boarding the plane we see that there are multiple compartments that could hold more carry ons. Finally we land in Chicago to sit on the runway for 40 plus minutes waiting for the gate to be available. They gave us no time of arrival when we would get to a gate and they didn't know if there was an option for a new gate. Not a happy customer!!! read more

Made it to the airport within my 2 hour window today. Tons of people in line to be serviced by American due to our service members traveling for the holidays. Being a former military member myself I don't mind waiting. When I made it to the Kiosk the Printer had a error and could not print the Bag Tag... I proceeded to get in the line to check my bag. A 50 minute wait due to the bags that had no where to go.. I got to the front and was greeted by RENEE the person helping with the line. I told her the printer would not print the bag tag and showed her the error receipt. Renee told me I had to go to the full service line because they could not print bags from this station. When I asked her could she walk me to the front of the line she refused and said I had to wait another hour in a different line and fly standby. She lied and told me the bag tag would not print because I was out of the hour window.. HUH my plane doesn't leave until 10:22... She told me to leave NOW and go to the other line she was done. I found Dave and told him the issue and he fixed the issue in 2 minutes tops and walked me to the front of the line. I expressed my displeasure to the supervisor. Renee Lies to customers. Tried checking in my wife for a flight to Florida. The system would not let me check her in unless she had a seat assignment. So, OK. I went to that screen, chose a seat, and paid for it. When I went back to check in, it told me I still didn't have a seat. This loop repeated, so I called AA reservations. The friendly, perfectly intelligent person asked several questions, and eventually said that because she could not see the "main frame screen (?)"she would transfer me to a person who would fix the problem. This new person, also very friendly and intelligent, asked some questions, left the phone for a while, and finally came back and said politely and apologetically, that she cannot take care of this one, that Reservations will have to do it. I explained to her that Reservations had sent me to her, she left the phone again and came back with the same message. I asked her if a case number had been generated, so I wouldn't have to explain all over again. I asked twice, because it didn't seem she knew what I meant. (again, she is completely intelligent, and very friendly.) Finally she said yes, I will give you the number. The number she gave was 800 222 2377. I asked if this was a phone number, she said yes. I exited politely, and called the number. The person who answered was also polite and intelligent. He asked some questions, left the phone and came back to tell me that (he was very sorry, but) there was a system error, and the seat I had paid for was no longer available. But no worries, he said, your wife has still assigned to seat 26E. I asked if she has a seat, why can't I check her in. He said, there is a system glich, and I will report this to my superiors. Your wife has to check in at the airport. No worries. This adventure took about 45 minutes. Time I will never get back, but then you all know that. IF I HAD A CHOICE, I WOULD LEAVE THESE GUYS SO FAR BEHIND ME........ Southwest is better. At least you know what you have, how the rules work. read more

I recently took a trip to Italy and was very disapointed.I arrived 3 hours early to the airport as directed. Checked my bags and waited for my trip to begin. We took off and everything was great until we landed in New York for our connecting flight to Rome. Our flight arrived late to the terminal, we went to the desk not stopping anywhere and our plane was gone. The answer we got at the counter from the AA representative was your plane left so go to one of the courtesy phones and make a new reservation. I asked her why the plane was gone and her answer was your not the only one and sent us away. I then found the courtesy phone no thanks to her and booked another flight that had to now stop in London then Rome. I paid for a direct flight now I get to go to London, Nice. I'm on the plane to Rome and haven't eaten in 8 hours, what happens next. They are serving food and they run out of meals. I finally got a cold sandwich that I didn't eat. We get to London switch planes again arrive in Italy and guess what? NO LUGGAGE!!!! I arrived on Monday and didn't see my bags until Thursday afternoon. Nightmare flight. I call the customer service line and what do they do, send my to the AA website. I couldn't even talk to anyone. Then they have the nerve to send me a $100 voucher to fly with them again. I would rather swim across the ocean then fly with them again. read more

We are on a pleasure trip from Miami to Chicago, then enroute to Beijing in first class/business class. Our first flight was an old 767 in first class. The seats were comfortable, but not full reclining. That is fine for a 3 hour flight during the day. After that I was very disappointed. They did not hand out head phones and you had to request cheap in the ear phones. No movies, just some crappy tv show. The lunch was a cold chicken salad which was mediocre. Dessert was a warm cookie! No coffee or tee was offered. They did hand out blankets, but no pillows. If you are tall your head is way above the top of the seat. In other words trying to rest your head on the back ready is impossible. They offered no sanitary backing to the headrest that was available. also the power outlet was a round one that you use on a car. The flight itself was smooth. Definitely not first class, unless you come from India. Tonight I will travel on a 777 to Beijing. read more

Wow, worst airline ever. Transferring flight to Milwaukee was delayed by 6 hours, no other flight available. They didnt even mention the option to take a bus since it's an hour away driving, only happen to find out through other people. Couldnt get the luggage even though it is here in the airport. It was going to take 3 hours more to get the luggage because they only have 2 people working on a busy day. Decide to let it get to Milwaukee while I take the bus. I need to get my rental car before Enterprise closes. I cant believe this. Im going to make sure to never travel through AA again. Awful. read more

American Airlines has THE worst baggage service than any other airline. I travel a lot and have flown on many airlines including United, Alaska, Delta and more. American is by far the slowest to get your bag to baggage claim -frequently 30 to 45 minutes -and I have had more lost bags with American than any other airline as well. If I could give negative stars I would. I have flown hundreds of times with multiple airlines and only American Airlines has given me problems. I haven't helped them before but this is enough. I got on my first flight (American Airlines) and they ran so late I couldn't make the connecting flight.. Also American Airlines, they didn't bother to tell us they close the gate 10 minutes before what your ticket says, and they didn't call to tell all of our connecting flights to hold for a few minutes, my flight departure time was 4:50pm, (half way across Chicago o'hair) I ran and got to the gate at 4:42pm, to be told that I will have to get another flight!!!! What? The plane is here I am here and it don't take off for at lest another 8 minutes I have no baggage.... "No sir we will not re open a flight, you will have to find another"... I ask " ok so what is American Airlines going to do for me?" They come back with "we don't offer anything to people for missing a flight" ..... Ummm your airline and your hidden rules of closing a gate early made me miss my flight..... And NOTHING... "First, I really wanted to like this place, I really did. All my friends talked about it and how it totally transported them to a different place. We were served by like two girls in these ridiculous outfits. They had seriously 200 people in here so it was jam packed and we were in these weird seats that all faced the same way. The entertainment was some strange new wave pantomime but someone else narrated over it? Rando! It was only like a minute then nothing else our entire stay. The two managers were in another room the whole time and would sporadically yell at us over the loud speaker. I was so put off! Then, the drinks. Omg, if you can call them that! A total joke with no selection and served from a tiny cart that took Fo-Ev-Ah. And you had to bring cash!!! That wasn't posted anywhere. I didn't try the food, but on a positive note the peanuts were free and tots delish. I will not be going back to this club. Not to mention I must have got wasted and given the uber driver wrong directions because it was $400 to get back home to downtown KC. If the club is going to move that should be on the website somewhere. Not worth the $200 I spent on this trip. read more
