Boooo to raising checked luggage fees to $30 each way. How many millions do they make doing this? Ugh. Gah. I miss Southwest. Had a rather uneventful, full flight on AA into O'Hare. I was pleased that although they randomly assign the seating, I got an aisle seat with an empty seat next to me, when most of the other seats were full. Thanks AA! I was disappointed that there were no meals served, just cookies or pretzels along with a soda. The flight attendants were nice, and nobody seemed to have any difficulties. Uneventful is good. My bag came out quickly, and everything went according to the schedule. No problems! read more

A small but mighty lounge here in Terminal 3, and one that you should consider checking out if you have access. Generally speaking, the Admiral Clubs don't really offer much when compared to its international competitors. So I wasn't expecting much when I finally booked an international ticket from ORD that granted me access to the mini Flagship tucked away towards the far end of the AA terminal. But was it worth it? Most definitely. Spent an hour before my flight to YUL/LHR here and it was a pleasant surprise! Although small and lacking in shower facilities, the lounge was cozy and had some wonderful staff members making sure your stay was comfortable. During lunch time, it was not busy at all, and there was plenty of room to get some work done in peace and quiet. The food offerings and open bar are the main reasons why you should frequent the Flagship lounge. Lunchtime offerings were actually quite decent ranging from sushi to satay, dumplings to charcuterie fare. A lot of Asian influences in their selection which I do not mind at all! Drinks were great being self-pour, so help yourself before your flight. Really appreciated my experience here and I am looking forward to potentially coming back at least once before I lose my status (damn spending requirement AA...) Safe journeys and bottoms up! read more

As a government employee, I am often forced to use them. Six years after my original review, they still suck. Awful. Just the worst. Whenever I fly in my own terms, I make a point of using, literally, any other airline. An idiotic software failure kept us boarded, at the gate, for two hours. The pilot informed us, "Folks, the mechanic they sent isn't one of ours, and he's having trouble with our system." Gives you confidence, doesn't it? Now I am stuck in Charlotte for 6+ hours, and when they rebooked me, they put me in a center seat that they won't let me change without an additional $35. God they suck. read more

Yup! Never f*ckin' fails! American Airlines is known for their damn delays, and I believed they wouldn't do me like that--who was I kiddin'? American airlines have totally gone downhill since the last time I booked with them. I booked a ticket to Chicago from San Francisco months in advance. My arrival in Chicago was a total disaster. Don't believe me? Read here: "We know that the delay of your recent flight was an inconvenience to you (not to mention disruptive to your travel plans), and we apologize. At the same time, we'd like to offer a more tangible gesture of our concern. Accordingly, we've credited your AAdvantage® account with 3000 bonus miles. This mileage adjustment will be visible in your account in just a few days. You can view your account via http://www.aa.com/aadvantage. Thank you for flying with us, and for your business, which we never take for granted." On top of that, they tried to comp me 3,000 miles for the inconvenience? Yeah right! You tryna get over on me AA? You know dang well 3,000 is NOTHING after waiting 6 hours to fly out of SF. Well, coming back was just another disaster. My flight was supposed to board at 830PM back to San Francisco, instead, it was pushed out to 10:10 PM. Why? Just tell me WHY?? It was beautiful weather in both cities. Let me guess a mechanical issue?? Heard that before! Sadly for $200, I refuse to deal with this airlines again! They're a disappointment and a true example of what airlines SHOULD NOT DO. Avoid them if possible! They offer cheap tickets because they know they suck and need your business! read more

They lost my bags for three days. They said I had 30 days to turn everything in my bags were damaged. They were at Montego Bay. Let me start this review with this - I have flown American Airlines for more than 750,000 miles. We flew from Tucson to Chicago this week on AA. Our flight out of Tucson was delayed because the plane was late getting there. So we also arrived in Chicago late. We ran through the Chicago terminal to the gate we were told (on the plane) that our flight to Dayton was at. They told us that the gate had been changed hours ago. Our gate was 10 gates or so further. I'm sure they knew were were on our way and we were only 2-3 minutes late - but there wasn't anyone at the gate. So we found another gate that had an AA gate check. We informed them of our missed connection and he began to rebook us. Unfortunately there were no more flights to Dayton that day and the next morning flights were all full. So we opted to fly to Indy the next day and get a rental car and drive over to Dayton. AA would not pay for the car rental. To AAs credit, we were given a hotel and meal vouchers for the night. When given a choice, I'll be flying other airlines. read more

I've been an AA frequent flier for about 20 years. I took my 92 year old mother to see her grandson for Thanksgiving. The trip involved a change of planes. My mother has difficulty walking distances and i requested a wheelchair when I purchased the tickets 5 months in advance. Coming back there were no wheelchairs or staff waiting. I had to go hunt for people. When we changed planes, I asked someone several times. No response . I was afraid we were going to miss our connecting flight. Eventually I went to another gate and told them I was taking a wheelchair. I literally ran through the airport pushing a wheelchair and carry on. since then I have written to American customer service twice. And it keeps getting better! After being treated with contempt from an AA supervisor, my frustrated husband asked for his name. Daniel's the first name and when we asked for his last, his response, delivered with a smirk on his face, "I can't tell you." Seriously, what exactly does their training program look like? I flew from Chicago to Columbus Ohio and by far, it was the best experience I've had with American Airlines. The American Eagle is not a big plane. But what made it memorable for me was my awesome flight attendant. I am sorry that I didn't get her name, but she reminded me of a younger Betty White. She was classy, amusing and shared her two cents of small words. I travel quite often for work, and I would like to give American Airlines a huge applause for keeping their tenure employees, or encourage and hire workers over forty. I believe this creates great diversity in the workplace. "Something Special In The Air" - said American Airlines. My experience with AA was awesome, even though our flight got canceled due to maintenance issues. Michelle Branscum, a Customer Service Rep at the check-in counter was so professional, cheery, polite, and encouraging, that even when all our travel plans fell apart, she worked diligently, and did not quit until she found us a reasonable solution. We have seen, and heard the many horror stories on the news, but had never personally experienced it. Just when I though our plans to visit family had collapsed, she took us by the hand, and fought for us. Thank you Michelle. Your courtesy, knowledge, and experience was deeply appreciated. READ THIS VERY CAREFULLY: NEVER AGAIN. We had no issues trying to get to Chicago from Los Angeles, so we are genuinely surprised about how horrible our experience has been today attempting to go back home. Our gate has changed five or six times over the course of a few hours. I wish I were exaggerating. The flight has been delayed easily the same number of times, if not more. None of the flight attendants can answer any questions about where the gate will be, where the plane is, or what time you will really be boarding or departing. Every single response has been "I don't know." Throughout this entire terminal, no one I've met has been helpful or kind. The line at customer assistance is ridiculously long because no one knows where to go or what to do. Had I not been getting updates via my wallet app on the iPhone, we would have been royally screwed as they have not been announcing these changes over the intercom as often as the information changes. We ran into another person who encountered this issue last night trying to get to London. He was on the tarmac for 4 1/2 hours before an engine on the plane failed and the flight was cancelled after all of that time. This is completely unacceptable and we have paid too much money to risk going through this again. People can not afford the loss of time and lack of professionalism that you very clearly are displaying at this time. We were supposed to leave at 4:40. The time was 7:10 and they expected to have the plane boarded and in the air by 7:30. They've now changed the time yet again to 7:50. It's completely delusional. This airline needs a complete overhaul. I personally will not be flying with you again. I frankly don't have the time or energy and I don't know who does. read more

American Airlines prides itself on their new fleet. And the planes look great -- on the outside. On the inside, it's a travelers nightmare. Whoever designed the new sardine seating arrangement - I would like to personally sit next to them and make their flight as miserable as they made mine. It is extremely nice to have a power supply and a little TV on the back of the seat - but they put the HUGE power supply by your feet eliminating any possibility to stretch your legs out. And American wonders why people rate them so low. This new design makes your customers unhappy. I wonder when was the last time an American Airlines executive has flown - or ever flown - coach. American Airlines sucks, I will never fly it again by choice. We've been in this flight for almodt 2h and I asked for water several times, they kept saying we will be there shortly and nothing. When I finally got up to ask for some, they started arguing with me that supposedly they where waiting for people to sit down and that I was slowing the process down. Travel Nightmare with American Airlines - On Thursday, February 13th we took American flight from Dallas to Auckland. We were a little over 5 hours away from Auckland when our flight had to be diverted to Honolulu Airport due to a medical emergency. When we landed in Honolulu at 6 AM we were all taken to a room in the airport without our luggage and told we were to wait there until they could get a crew to fly us to Auckland. They could not tell us if it would have been that that night or the next day. They told us there were no hotels available, so they were not giving out vouchers. They would not give our luggage to us. We found a flight with another airline that left that afternoon, so we booked that and then talked to the associate from American about getting our luggage back. She told us she would be able to get our luggage transferred to the Honolulu flight for us. When we landed in Auckland, we waited for our luggage but is did not arrive. There was no one at the airport to help us and we were told to leave and call American. I spent over an hour on hold in the middle of the night to file a lost baggage claim. American told me that the bags would be heading to Auckland that day and they would deliver them to my hotel. We did not have any extra clothes except what we were wearing. The next day I received a call from American Airlines that two of my bags were in LAX and wanted to know what to do with the bags. She located the other two bags that were set to fly to Auckland that day on the next flight. She arranged for all for all of them to be delivered to our hotel in Te Anau. The next day I received a call the Christchurch airport to let us know that two of our bags were there and that we had to go to the airport to get the bags back. This was over eight hour drive away. I asked at that point if they could just be delivered back to our city of origin. I was told I would need to reclaim the bags at the airport because baggage service team will not change the destination. We spent the majority of our vacation on the phone or chatting on the app with American Airlines. This was very disruptive to our vacation. Also, we did not have any clothes and had to purchase items as we went, and I spent every evening washing clothes in the sink in my hotel room. In the middle of the week, I looked in my American app and realized there was no information about my return flight. I received no communication that they had canceled my return flight. I had to call American and have them rebook me . We finally received our luggage on Friday night, six days later. We were leaving on Sunday morning. After I returned home, I submitted a claim for expenses, they denied it saying I voluntary separated from my bags. This is not correct. When we were diverted to Honolulu, they did not give us our bags. When I talked to the American agent there to get my bags, she told me she could get them on my flight so I would not be any more inconvenienced. I was told by numerous American agents that we would be reimbursed for purchases and to keep our receipts. The customer service I have received from American has been horrible. I tried to call you customer service number, but they cannot help me with anything but baggage. I filed a complaint online and was sent a patronizing email and was offered 5000 bonus miles which is the equivalent of $85. American airlines disrupted my vacation and will not take ownership and fix their mistake. They have horrible customer service! read more

I wish I could give zero. Dirty airplanes and massive lines. I've been at different airports all day and it's literally only American Airlines fault. American Airlines didn't stand up to help. We recently booked a trip to Italy on American Airlines. Turns out it was a code share flight. We were actually booked on Iberia Airlines. Trip started out okay until we got to Italy and our luggage didn't get there. Unfortunately, the lost luggage didn't show up for 5 days! We had nothing, probably not smart on our part. So,we were in Florence for 9 days and we had no clothes for 5 days. This pretty much ruined the whole trip. The only reason we got our luggage at all was I packed AirTags in each bag. I also sent updated baggage location to Iberia airlines 2x per day. Here's where it got interesting.. Paid $4400.00 for th 2 round trip tickets The seats were upgraded to premium economy. American washed there hands of the entire situation. Offered no help. Told us to call Iberia. Iberia said they had nothing to do with this matter because Iberia partnered with American! Then they denied any responsibility and pushed it off to Vueling airlines By the way Vueling was a good airline. Very efficient and ran on time. We got to Italy and got back safely. Just a couple of details that about our luggage that no one seemed to care about. The best thing I learned from this was. Investing in the AirTags was probably the only way we got our luggage back. This review is specific to the American Airlines ground crew at the O'Hare airport. Our flight was supposed to board at 8:30 but then was delayed until 11:20 when they decided to cancel the flight. I understand that it is not 100% of American Airlines's fault as the command came from the flight control center of the airport, but the way they handled the situation was disappointing. That day a lot of flights were cancelled, so many people wanted to reschedule their flights at the customer service desk. There were at least 70+ people waiting in-line to talk to only 2 people who were servicing at the desk area. This ratio? People were waiting 2+ hours to talk to these nonchalant people. When I went to ask my flight's front desk for the reason why the flight is not cancelled but only delayed, they did not have the best attitude. The funniest part was that the expected boarding time was 11:50 but the airplane we were supposed to sit on did not even depart from the Detroit Airport and was set to depart at 11:40. So yes, we are definitely going to board at 11:50 on an airplane that is not even attached to our terminal, better yet haven't left the last airport. When they officially cancelled the flight, the customer service phone number line had a waiting time of 1.5+ hours. Wow, go American! read more

We flew American Airlines on our recent trip to the UK, and it was probably the worst plane we've been on for an international trip. Generally, we would have a seat-back television screen or at least a shared screen for every couple of rows in each aisle of the plane. Instead, the TVs were only in the middle aisles, which made them really difficult to see. I tried watching some of the movies for a while, but soon gave up. Honestly, it was kind of a small plane for such a long flight. I did regret that we hadn't had a chance to grab more food while we were at the airport cuz' we really weren't given much food on the plane. We had some not quite french toast with fruit and a bagel for breakfast. For a long time, this was all the food there was, and I was starving. We got a snack near the end of the flight - since we're vegetarians, we got the cold pasta salad. I flagged down a flight attendant to verify that everyone else was getting cheese pizza and asked if I could have one. Luckily, she had a couple leftover once everyone had been served. Oi, that's the downfall of requesting vegetarian meals - you usually get to eat first, but sometimes the standard meal is better and something you would have rather eaten anyway. read more

American Airlines what happened to you? I flew over a half a million miles with you and still know my frequent flier number by heart. However when I fly it is for my convenience so when visiting NJ to see Mom it would not have been convenient to fly you, and at all times I fly non-stop. So I have a business trip to Chicago so I fly you yesterday after a two year hiatus. Boy now I truly have a comparative of everyone else and it isn't pretty for American. So short trip I use my small Tumi suitcase that has clocked even more miles than I have with you. So when they call my group I go only to get stopped and get ridiculed by two of your agents. Now since 9-11 I am a different person when I fly so it is like I am numb on medication. If an agent says anything , I DO NOT ENGAGE OR ARGUE. People that know me would be shocked. But I am totally aware on who is in charge and we are not Americans with freedom anymore. So the dialogue goes like this your bag has now mysteriously after a half million miles is too big for their overhead. At this point they are now leading me to believe the plane I am boarding is state of the art. Right off the assembly line and I will be one of their first passengers. They tag the bag. But no the diatribe does not end. Is this a smart bag does it contain battery packs? Am I on Candid Camera after this back and forth they than say to me if I was on Spirit I would get charged. Wow American Airlines now prides themselves on not being the worst airline in the world. Only the second worst! Ok so the other passenger's that were boarding were confused as their bags was the same sized maybe even bigger and they were not stopped. The over head bins up until take off were empty. Oh and the plane I boarded older than I can imagine. My bag would have fit fine as it had for the last 16 years. But the power trip of the employees is not compared thankfully to any othet airline I will happily fly next time anyone else! read more

There was a severe winter storm that hit the Midwest this week. As a result, I was not able to travel to Chicago for my flight on 03/05/23. I called American Airlines to see if I could receive credit for my flight. After a 30 minute hold, a foreign man picked up and said that I could speak to a supervisor so that I could receive credit for the flight. However, when he said the supervisor was on the other line, he lied to me and sent me to take a survey of my experience with him. Thinking that I would be connected to the supervisor after the survey, I took the survey. However, the call immediately ended as soon as I completed the survey. I followed up again. I called AA after and waited another 25 minutes to speak to a representative. After speaking to the representative, they rejected my request to receive a credit for the flight due to the travel advisory only being for 03/04/23. As a result, they told me to call again and request for a credit once again. I called once again and the lady sent me to the American Airlines website to fill out a long form to submit a complaint. She said that they would be able to offer me an exception and provide me with credit for the flight OR the same flight could be changed for another day. I still have no received ANY response from American Airlines. This has been a very frustrating process and I deserve compensation for the American Airlines' HORRIBLE customer service. read more

Beyond upset about one of the crew members forcing me to check my carry on bag even thought there was room in the overhead bins. They don't call back and this has happened over and over every day this week .Yesterday I asked to speak to a manager and that never happen. Instead after waiting 37 minutes a recording came on asking me to do a survey .I left a massage asking them to please call me back. At this point I know AA will NEVER give me my miles back however my account still has been compromised on their website!! Why is it that they make it my problem and take no responsibility and do nothing to help the situation.
