Budget airlines - you love them or you hate them. I currently am closer to the latter after my most recent experience with Frontier Airlines flying direct from GRR to RSW. The best part of these flights is that they are direct, and that's basically where the positives end. You may think that the flights are more affordable than larger carriers, but once you add carry on bags, personal items, and select your seat, you are likely to be at the same price or even more than what you'd pay on Delta, etc. After being stranded due to missing a connecting flight last winter on Delta, Nate and I decided to try Frontier Airlines. We've flown Frontier to Austin and that was a better experience. We got a text on the day we were to fly home that our flight was significantly delayed. I checked on Google, the RSW airport site, and Flight Aware and none of them had been updated to reflect this delay. So we were stuck wondering if we should head to the airport or not. Eventually we decided to just go to the airport as 1) traffic is always terrible in the Naples area and it was pouring rain and 2) I figured since we wouldn't be able to lounge by the pool we could at least get some work done at the airport. (Forgetting that RSW is severely lacking in places to even sit, let alone get any work done.) So we headed to the airport. Frontier kept delaying the plane and the only reason given was that the incoming aircraft was delayed. It was coming from Michigan and there was no weather happening there, so we were a bit confused. It kept getting delayed longer and longer which was super annoying but what can you do? Airlines are supposed to give you meal vouchers if the delay is significant AND the delay is their fault. So of course I assume Frontier would say the delay was not their fault. They did give us $150 in airline credits but I haven't even looked to see what the stipulations are for using those. The flight itself was fine and we were in an exit row so we had plenty of leg room. They will promote their credit card and try to get you to sign up at least once during your flight which is also annoying. Plus you have to buy everything on board including water, so definitely bring your own snacks and water bottles. I will continue to fly Frontier if absolutely necessary, but it certainly isn't my first choice. read more

Instead of paying $99, I asked if it would be possible to take some things out of his bag and put them in mine, they told me, to go to my seat, since my boarding pass was already scanned but I asked again and then they made me check my bag and take everything out? Which fit..as did his and said we would not be able to board the plane unless we pay $99. ABSOLUTE SCAM. I will never be using this airline again. I would never recommend Frontier's GoWild package. It sounds great but is far from it. You can only book tickets one flight at a time. Tickets can only be purchased 24 hours before your flight. If you have a connecting flight, if you have a checked bag, you have to claim that bag, then check it in again, plus go though TSA again. I have seen whole families getting stuck at the airport because they overbooked and GoWild people can get bumped off the flight. Plus in 2024 they stopped flying out of the airport that was most near to me. Now I would have to travel by car or bus another 6+ hours to the nearest airport they fly from. read more

I recently sent my elderly mom on a 3hr flight From FL to NY. She requires wheelchair service from the time I leave her at the airport until she is met on the other end by a family member. First I will say that everything went great from ticketing, to security, and throughout the smooth flight. My highest commendation goes to the wheelchair attendants. As soon as we got through the check-in process at ticketing, the wheelchair attendant whisked her away. FREEDOM AT LAST!!! (jk) ;-) The wheelchair attendant stayed with her the entire time until her flight boarded, taking her to grab a snack, use the restroom, etc. I was very impressed to say the least. My mom was so happy to have the attendant stay with her as well, because flying can be a confusing and frustrating process for the elderly. They boarded her first. She was lucky to have a front row window which made it very easy to board and deplane upon arrival. When the plane arrived in NY, there was another wheelchair attendant waiting for her. The attendant stayed with her all the way to the baggage claim where another family member was waiting for her. Her return flight process went just as smoothly. I give the wheelchair attendants my utmost gratitude for taking care of my mom in what could have been a very overwhelming situation. We will definitely fly Frontier again in the future. For the service we received, it was worth every penny. :-) read more

I learned my lesson and will never fly Frontier again. Frontier cancelled my scheduled flight with little notice and they offered no help. Nothing at all. Even if they were not going to offer monetary assistance, they could have at least helped rebook, they could have distributed the names of nearby hotels with phone numbers, but nothing at all other than go to the app or online and rebook for "another day". I am warning others; the savings on Frontier can be quickly wiped out when you need to pay a premium for a last minute ticket on another airline along with a hotel after being left stranded by Frontier. I finally learned my lesson: "Frontier -- NEVER AGAIN." I got burned two years ago by Frontier. They charged me $80 to carry on a computer bag, THEN cancelled the flight about an hour after the scheduled departure time. There would be no more flights that week, and basically you're on your own. Good luck! It cost me $500 to get a new flight with a reputable airline. Foolishly, I came back for more. This year, they offered a non-stop flight, and (supposedly) free carry-on at a fairly low price. Well, turns out, that was a straight up lie. Priceline said it's free, but when we got to the Frontier desk, they said "no, no, no... that'll be 208 dollars." Eventually we negotiated down to $104, and then the Frontier clerk helped me pay through the app, and it ended up being $65. (coming back, the app "didn't work" and it cost $79.) So add on $144 to the original price. During the flight, water costs $4, so add another $8, for a grand total of NEVER AGAIN! I flew Delta last year, and even with an annoying stopover, it's still worth it to be treated with respect and offered a few comforts. I use Frontier to travel to Fort Meyers and I have to say I never had a bad experience, customer service has always s been good. If you are expecting any luxury, not!! everything is ala cart. The employees working at the Full Service counter on March 26, 2024 were the least helpful people we have ever experienced. Our flight was canceled and we were given a mumbled explanation on what to do next. They pretty much told us we were on our own to find a new flight. I bought Frontier's bundle in order to get refundability. But when I had to cancel my trip, the only option on line was a travel voucher. I had to telephone and they kept me waiting for around 15 minutes before giving me the refund. I got the refund, but I had to work at it. I will never EVER fly Frontier EVER AGAIN! On our arrival, we had to fly around for an hour before landing because of a storm, then they re routes us From Ft Meyers to Tampa,l. At first they were going to shuttle us to Ft meyers for a two hour car ride. But they were able to get us back in the air to go back to Ft meyers. But the real issue is we were on our way to the airport via u we, when they just CANCELLED our flight! With nothing "they can do", just rescheduling our flight for the next day, no offers for lodging or reimbursement for Uber rides. The next day, we sit and wait to board, for them to now tell us the plane is OUT OF SERVICE!!! They'd TWO cancellations in TWO days, with NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR US!!!! I don't check my email all the time so I didn't know that I could do an E check in so I was talking to two young ladies, that were really trying to get a supervisor down there to get me and my two daughters young daughters are boarding passes during this time a girl I'm gonna say a girl came out from the back. She was one of the staff that works there her name is Yvena. When she came up to me, she had a straight up attitude So I said to her please I'm already working with these two young ladies here And she continued to chime in very rudely A lady came from the Back and was escort To the back while doing so me a fkng white bitch. I couldn't believe that someone that works for the airline behind the counter had said that to me in front of my two little girls who were 13 n 14. After a few moments, she comes back out and I asked her. Are you coming back to call me another white bitch? First time flying with them today. Pleasantly surprised. Cheapest price, although everything is al a carte. But that's ok. You just have to be prepared. Luggage charges are similar to other airlines. Carry on vs personal item, the personal item is very generous so it might be all you need. Airplane was clean, plane and simple but clean and the seatbelt was one of the biggest which is nice. I'm not huge but some airlines strangle you, not these. Grab your drink before you board and you won't need to buy something on the plane. But if you do the choices are more thank just what you find on other airlines you just have to pay. The flight was good and the staff very nice. Bought a ticket for my son to come to Ohio to join me on a trip. ALL Frontier flights were canceled to Ohio from Fort MEYERS today. Tried to get a flight on another airline and no luck doing so for today. Frontier offered to give a voucher for what I paid plus $100 but only to the person the flight was for, and not transferable or good for cash. I so despise writing one or two star reviews. So I decided that you can read this review and decide for yourself. What I experienced on my latest flight to Chicago via Frontier airlines was to say the least interesting. I booked F9 flight 1317 on Feb 15th. I was to take off at 7:45pm and land at 9:45pm. This did not happen. We had a huge delay as the plane was two hours late in arriving from Chicago. We were told weather and mechanical. I have an app that can track the airplane and I discovered it was two hours late as far back as the 14th of Feb. So the plane gets in two hours late they unload and load us. While were were on the plane they told us they need to have a mechanic sign off on the repairs. So we waited almost an hour for the paperwork to be signed off. Don't misunderstand I want a safe plane and this really did not bother me. So we take off and head towards Chicago. We land at 12:30am central time which is 1:30am body time. We taxi to the gate and we are put on hold. We are told there is no gate available at 12:30am and we must wait for the plane at the gate to move. Of course they had a mechanical issue and we had to wait for that to be resolved before we could get to the gate. Finally the other flight clears the gate and we are ready to deplane. Oh no not yet as there is no personnel at the gate to support us. Now you are asking yourself the same question I am. There was personnel to get the other plane out of the gate where did they go? So after another wait we finally got off the plane a full four hours late. This is not the first time I have had problems with Frontier. One time they cancelled the flight because the crew timed out and could not fly. read more

So my mom and I wanted to give the airlines a 2.5 stars review but that's not an option on Yelp. It was our first time flying this airline, but we didn't expect the mess of a situation we were put in. A flight from Fort Myers to Albany was listed as "on time" but was delayed multiple times throughout the afternoon. Other travelers talked about how the airline never runs on time and flights are often cancelled. There came a point when the airline assistant disappeared so travelers had no idea if the flight was cancelled. Travelers were incredibly frustrated with the lack of communication. A 11:17 am boarding time ended up becoming a 3:30 pm boarding time. The kinks were worked out by the airline eventually and we arrived to our destination 3 hours later. We were also offered a small credit for a future flight if we chose to use Frontier again via email. The direct flight was a plus, but I prefer JetBlue or Southwest when a direct flight option is available, even when it's more expensive. read more

This was my first time flying Frontier and I'll tell you what, there was one thing after another today with our flight. It all actually started yesterday when I couldn't check in on the website. It wouldn't let me finish checking in no matter how many times I reloaded the page, closed it out, opened it back up and I tried several times before deciding to just check in when we got to the airport. We got to our gate 2 hours early only to be told when we tried to board that my husbands seat was broken and they were going to find him another flight. We got lucky and despite the plane being full, made it on. Once we finally got on we were asked to change seats and get split up, which we agreed to and actually got a free drink out of it. Thank God for their staff! They were great, airline just functions poorly. Also, they don't have wine? That's a problem, obviously. Then we get to the airport and our bag claim area changed 7 times before our flight was nowhere to be found on the screens and left us all standing there confused not knowing where to go. They couldn't locate a whole plane's worth of bags? I'm not sure this is a fault of Frontier or Fort Meyer's Airport. After an hour of that we finally got our bags. I purchased the ticket on Expedia and arrived at the airport only to find that my flight was delayed by 2 hours (I received no e-mail, call, or text to tell me about this), I was charged $45.00 for a one way baggage fee, $14.00 for booking fees (why)? First our flight was delayed for 2 hours due to the toilet not working. We finally board, and were flying for 30 minutes when they announced that the toilets weren't working again so they turned the airplane around and grounded us in Fort Myer. They cancelled the flight, we stood in line for an hour and all they gave us was a piece of paper with instructions on how to book a flight with another airline OURSELVES. They didn't even try to help us find a way home. There were NO flights going to Cincinnati or the vicinity so we were stuck at the airport...having to find transportation, a place to stay and a flight. Horrible customer service.
