Booked my flight from BWI to New Orleans. Arrived at Charlotte for the transfer of flights.. That's when all hell happened. We were boarded on the plane sat for about an hour then we're notified. The plane had mechanical issues.. was told we had to exit the plane and they were going to see if another plane was available. Notified the plane was available, then was told that plane had mechanical issues.. now remind you the plane from Charlotte to New Orleans was supposed to land at 10:50 PM.. we had to stay at the airport all night to board a plane at 5:38AM. American Airlines did not offer the passengers anything no room reservation no food voucher absolutely nothing. with that being said, I missed my business meeting because of these issues.. I believe American Airlines could have handled the situation much better than they did. read more

Our flight itself was fine. What's caused me to drop a star is because the gate agent had no customer service skill whatsoever. We asked if they could possibly seat us together, as the automatic seat assignment system at AA had separated my husband and I by several rows. While the woman there smiled and seemed to indicate she'd at least try, the guy who was barking at everyone both in person and over the PA system wasn't having it. He didn't even check his computer to see if our request could be accommodated and he just said "Nope, full flight. Your seats are your seats" and that was final. Great customer service! When the guy started calling the various zone numbers to board the plane, he was barking out commands and sarcastic comments and treating passengers like they were idiots. American Airlines is a smaller player in the New Orleans airport scene. They have about 2 or 3 gates and limited flights. My flight was good and the staff there was nice and very friendly. Total disclosure though, I cheated a bit and did not check a bag, so I skipped the ticket counter and went straight to the security check point. That is the way to fly, if you can get away with it. My flight was on-time and I had no issues. By the look of the other reviews, I was fortunate. However, I travel a lot and has always been treated with respect with AA (except for in ORD). read more

American pushed up our morning departure from 07:37 to 07:00 and we missed the flight by 5 minutes. Rental car return at 05:30 open. Shuttle to airport 30 minutes. Massive TSA lines with dog sniffer. Graduation period. All they said was we were supposed to be there 2 hours in advance, which is psyically impossible. No refund ticket. Buyers beware. There are so many whiners on these social media sites complaining about one or two mediocre or bad experiences with an airline, in most cases the issues they're complaining about have nothing to do with anything within the airline's control! three out of the 4 flights round trip 3 where an absolute nightmare my flight leaving Msy was late leaving due to maintenance then when I landed in Charlotte, I was three minutes late to get on my plane so they wouldn't let me board. They didn't have another flight leaving for Grand Rapids until the next day so they sent me to Detroit where I had to get somebody to Come and pick me up, which ended up being a seven hour round-trip. leaving Grand Rapids was the only flight that was on time when I landed in Charlotte again the plane was pushed back due to maintenance then pushed back to the next morning and we were offered hotel rooms and food vouchers. I declined and found another flight. Heading to New Orleans and that flight was also delayed over and over and over again due to maintenance And finally Midnight arrived at home when I should've been home at 7:30 I was told that the customer service desk in Charlotte that I would receive a full Refund and y'all sent me $21.50 to pick up anything? read more

My flight out of New Orleans was delayed twice, but even on Christmas Eve, it was easy to check in, go thru security and board the plane. The plane was about half full on this flight, which is amazing to me. Flight crew was friendly. Amazing. Checking in was very easy. This is an airline that needs a communication training course in place for all employees. Most of the employees are very disgruntled and unhappy. No one I have encountered in my 12 hour journey home was helpful or seemed to care. American Airlines - Worst customer service ever by this lady - Airlines Near Me - Kenner, Louisiana

Hope everyone reads this. I drove nine hours from Dallas to catch a flight from New Orleans that would only connect back to Dallas, because American Airlines customer service told me it would cost upwards of ~$1500 to change my flight. Maybe I could have convinced them, but I drove back to New Orleans anyway because I needed my passport, and my flight destination was Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, MX. Nine hours on the road and I arrived home in New Orleans last night with a text that said my flight was delayed, which would make me miss my connecting flight out of Dallas to Puerto Vallarta. Ok, frustrating, but there's no f*cking way I'm missing this trip - I'll figure it out, right? Wrong. I called AA and they put me on a call-back list, the wait for which was, and I quote, "more than two hours." I called every 30 min or so, still the same. So I caught a ride to the airport and tried to speak to a representative. I found two flight options that superseded the options they gave me for rerouting: one that would leave earlier that morning, so I could still make my flight; or, one without a connection that would leave a little later that morning. Neither of these options were presented by AA in their rerouting email - theirs would have all been days later. Further and further into the weekend. Ok, this sounds like a first world problem, and it is. But listen - every day I'm losing here is a VACATION DAY. We are working people, and I'm losing vacation days. So I went to the airport last night, and there were three other people in the same boat. Their flights had been delayed or canceled, and each of us only wanted to speak with a representative. There were four AA representatives downstairs in baggage claim and *supposedly* two inside at the gate. The last flight was departing at 11pm (after 8 delays) - so yes, they were there. These three other passengers and I waited from 9:30pm to midnight (that's when I left - they stayed all night) solely longing to speak to someone. We asked countless people. Countless. Some were rude (cops, mainly). Some were sticky sweet, then never came back. No one followed through. The help line on the phone on the wall repeatedly told us that a representative would be there to speak to us in 30 minutes. No one ever came. I finally received my call-back from the wait list, and the customer service agent told me he could literally do nothing to get me to Puerto Vallarta today (Friday). He said that since the other flight options were with United, he couldn't help me, and he couldn't offer me a refund because of the weather. No one had helped me so far - why would they help me now? So, I signed up for the Saturday, Dec. 29 flight at 5am. I went home from the airport depressed and fell asleep. I woke up with a text saying that my Saturday flight had been canceled, too. That pushed me back another day. My options were thinning. My family was arriving in Puerto Vallarta. No way. So, I called American Airlines on their customer service hotline again and was put on another wait list for "over an hour". In tears, I called United Airlines. "You have to help me," I said. "American Airlines has done nothing for me." I purchased a ticket directly to Puerto Vallarta - they even gave me a DISCOUNT for my troubles, none of which were their fault. When I finally got my call back from AA today, they canceled my connecting flight and told me that I "might" be able to get a refund or reimbursement. But, I can't even send in the complaint until my trip is finished after my return flights. So, I'm a day into my paid vacation days (the ones for an actual vacation, not sitting in my bed upset and frustrated) and I'm wondering why I've had luck in the past with airlines working with their customers on finding alternate routes, other flights, being nice and figuring out their transportation. Last night I left in an Uber and my charge was $38.29. Am I getting reimbursed for that? Am I getting reimbursed for the $448 I spent on a ticket to actually get to my destination? Am I getting reimbursed for my vacation days? Are my comrades in the airport waiting area getting their reimbursements and accessories as well? It's funny - I usually fly Spirit or Southwest because they're cheap. People complain, say the plane is small, turbulent, whatever - but I have never received such malevolent and prissy treatment in my life. Like the elitist beast you are, you kept four customers on the outside with zero communication or attention or assistance. How quickly did we see exactly who you are - and how quickly did a nurse, a fisherman, a business woman and a restaurant owner make the decision to NEVER fly American Airlines again. I'm out ~$480 and two vacation days. What are you going to do about it? read more

Ticket counter in new orleans. Places myself, sister and elderly family members sitting apart. We arrived 2 hours before flight. Our connecting flight he put us at the very last seats on plane. My parents needed wheelchairs and he knew they were disabled when he did our seat assignments. Disgusting human being. I have been lied to for days about flights and this bag being sent to my final destination. If I do not get confirmation from them my bag will arrive before I go marry my friends then not only do they need to compensate me they will need to do a whole lot more. Also I wear contacts and they are in that bag. So I literally have an old pair soaking in a coffee cup currently. I will never fly American Airlines again. Where do I even start..... first off, my husband and I bough 2 round trip tickets to New Orleans with a connecting flight in Texas. When we arrived at the airport our bags were over the 50 pound limit. The lady at the counter said, throw all the coverage from one suitcase into the other and I will only charge you for one. Ok, that sucks but whatever we have to do. She charged us $160 EXTRA for having an overweight bag! We had taken an uber to the airport otherwise I would have went back and repacked my suitcase in the car. So it is what it is. We got there slightly early so we went to the bar to have a drink. In the middle of that drink, my husband looked over at the monitor that was showing flight times and the monitor said out flight left 45 minutes ago. So my husband check our text updates. Our text message updates stated that the flight was all boarded awaiting takeoff. He dropped everything and ran to the gate while I quickly closed out the tab and rushed to meet him. On my way there he was walking back and said that the plane had just arrived and the other passengers arent even off yet for us to board. This should have been the second clue that this flight was going to suck as the first one was having to pay almost $200 extra dollars for baggage. I mean can they get their shit together. The first flight was delayed by "weather" on a very sunny and warm day but more than 2 hours in the morning anyways. It was supposed to leave at 7am but didnt leave until after 9am. When we got to Texas, our flight was yet again delayed by 2 additional hours. During the delay we were informed that the flight we were suppose to board needed a part for maintenance and it was u clear weather or not they had the part at the airport or if it needed to be brought in, which would take several more hours. After waiting for about an hour someone finally came over the speaker and announced that they would be putting us on a different plane. During this transition my bag and inky my bag seemed to not make it in the new plane. My bag, with every single thing I had for this trip, my bag was lost. When we got to New Orleans we got a text from the airline stating that my bag was still in Texas! We went directly to customer service to find out what we could do to get it back and the lady at the counter said and I quote "yea that's Texas for you. That sucks. Theres nothing we can do. There are 2 more flights tonight from texas to new Orleans, so hopefully it is on one of those flights. We will deliver it to you when it shows up bit no idea when it will." No I'm so sorry for this incident, how can we make this right, or what can I do to help! I've never been so irritated and disgusted. Later that evening..... 5 hours after we checked into our hotel, we got a text srmtatubg that the bag had arrived and was out for delivery. However..... they contract with Amazon type shipping so my bag just scheduled to arrive to me until 5:45am tomorrow morning. I've been on a plane and in an airport for over 12 hrs. For a flight that was suppose to take a total of 6.5 hrs with layover. I have no clean clothes, no toothbrush no NOTHING except the clothes on my bag that ate covered in other people's sneezes and germs. This is the second time I have flown American airlines and the second tone that it has been a nightmare and I guarantee you there will not be a 3rd! My American Airlines experience was actually decent in New Orleans. Nothing went wrong. That's actually a really sad statement, when the bar is set that low. None of the staff was particularly friendly or helpful, but they didn't mess up and they weren't rude. I've also become accustomed to the cramped, no frills plane experience. By acknowledging this mediocre experience, I'm surely setting myself up for disaster next time. At least this trip hit some sort of standard of acceptability. read more

Our flight was cancelled due to "bad weather" in Dallas (currently 79 and sunny with a 40% chance of rain FYI) Here's the kicker they didn't tell us until we arrived at the airport! No Email, no text, nada. So $80 in cab rides and a hotel room in downtown Denver we can't cancel AA says there is NOTHING they can do to make it right. "Can you wave my checked bag fee" no. "Can we get an upgrade" no. "Can I get a free drink for having to deal with you dumb dumbs?" No. Thanks for costing me upward of an additional $300 AA. At least I have stiff plastic chairs and more shitty customer service to look forward to at 6 am tomorrow. I hope there's stale pretzels. read more

American is the worst example of customer service I can remember. Sometimes you can tell by the complete dis-interest of the ticketing agent at the airport that your bags are not gonna make it. American at New Orlean's brand new terminal were just clueless. And if that isn't bad enough, they could care less as well. I think they compete for how to screw up the most and care the least. Suffice to say they lost my bags. Everything for my and my friends entire vacation in those bags. But hey, at my destination they asked me if it would help if they provided me with underwear or toiletries. Have no idea which birdbrain came up with that solution. OK, right here I'm going to add the strong suggestion NOT to call the lost bag department of American Airlines. Not if you want to remain sane and not get so frustrated and aggravated that you ruin your entire vacation for everyone you're traveling with. I am being serious here.....they will rudely dismiss all your concerns, care nothing about finding your luggage and blame the whole situation on YOU. I AM NOT KIDDING. Oh, and I almost forgot. They will lie to you about what they have done to find your bags just to give you hope and get you off the phone. They know you will never be able to report them for their behavior. Literally got off the phone with a rude correspondent that hung up on me claiming he couldn't hear me despite not making any attempt to accommodate me. In an effort to book an earlier flight, I was told it would cost $200 per ticket which is more than the value of the flight. I have the option of canceling the flight and keeping the value of the tickets but am not allowed to use that money towards the replacement of the tickets without getting a $200 replacement ticket fine. American Airlines has time and time again proven a lack of costumer service, a focus on increasing their finance at the sake of plummeting reviews and what appears to be emptied flights. If I could give it 0 stars I would . I originally purchased 2 round trip flights 2 months in advance .for a non stop round trip from New Orleans to Chicago ( 11:00 - 1:30 I believe ] . Less than a week later AMERICAN AIRLINES changed our flight . For a departure time of 7:30 am ..with a layover of just 1/2 hour to catch a connecting flight . ( let's not forget to mention , that out of 8 kiosks only 2 were working . ) Well needless to say . Our flight was delayed of a little over a 1/2 hour . Had to catch a ' train ' to get to the other side of the airport ..and naturally missed our connecting flight . However ONE OF the attendants waited for us ..gave us an upgrade. For a connecting flight that took off 1.5 hours later . Of course we had to take the train back to the other side of the airport .time to get something to eat and have a glass of wine . Now that was just for. The flight to get to Chicago . Let's talk about the ' non stop ' flight back to New Orleans . That was suppose to be a flight at 10:30 am I believe. However AA changed it AGAIN. To 7:00 am . Easy to get through TSA . BUT the plane was delayed for 5 yes , 5 hours ! Good GOD . And now we are sitting in a small aircraft. Jeepers . The reason I asked for a non stop , was A: COVID AND B: my husband has a walking stick , so he is unable to run for a connecting flight . The Whole transportation part was horrible . Oh let's not forget the flight attendants walking back and forth like the Gestapo's making sure our masks were on properly , while one didn't abide by that rule at all . Her nose was exposed . Now our return flight was canceled yesterday (Sunday) due to weather and we were told we have to wait until Tuesday?!?!?! to get out. Tuesday? WTF? Spent over 5 hours milling around and standing in line to learn this. So off to a crappy airport hotel in Kenner Louisiana to kill a day and a half while I search for an escape.
