After five years we decided to spent Christmas in Gulfport Mississippi and chose American Airlines. From LAX they did good though we had delayed flight for they announced there were maintenance that they have to do so it took 30 minutes late. We arrived at Dallas so excited then we received message our flight got cancelled and will have it 10 pm, went to terminal ride train then decided to eat early dinner then received message got cancelled again it'll be 11 pm so we enjoyed eating dinner after an hour received message that it went back to fly by our pristine 8:30 we rushed eating and went to the terminal while lining up received message it'll fly 10:30 again then after 30 minutes got cancelled received message it'll cancel all flights and booking us for tomorrow. Got irritated I lined up then they offer New Orleans we grab the flight for we are eager to see his family and his mom esp who just recently diagnosed with cancer stage 4 so we took the chance and as we arrived look for a ride , rental, I don't drive my husband does but they won't accept my credit card it should have been my husband but he left his credit card accidentally in the checked in hidden in one of his things they did not allow us to rent so it took us running and so tired ending up frustrated and we are also bit wet with drizzling rain in NOLA. We went to look for Uber wow it charged us $125 dollars to bring us in Gulfport, MS we are so tired so we got it though it is very expensive, American Airlines should have do something about this trouble offer us free plane or fare to travel from NOLA to GPT.. in short they messed up our travel my sugar went up my medicine was in my checked in luggage and sugar monitor.. so felt bad for they left our luggage at Dallas, if I did not call them a lot our luggage won't be delivered next day... Our flight was 30 minutes late so we likely to miss connecting flight in LA. Asked to change seats to front of plane with hopes of making it. They made the change at a fee. The the plane shows up and additional 15 minutes late so no way to make connecting flight. Now we have to stay over in LA and miss a day of work. Costly flights all things considered. read more

The worst service I've ever! From check in to departure I have been completely dissatisfied with the service I've experienced! Two older white ladies and the Asian woman manager were horrible to work with and caused me to miss my flight because I have a service animal. After jumping through loops to get him on the flight, I needed help checking the status of my flight, I approached a lady named Monica at gate C15 and she was very nasty and rude and refused to help me with my simple questions. If I could leave zero stars, I would. I don't even think one star is deserved. If you have places to be, do not rely on this airline. I've been through multiple airlines, flights, countries, and this one was by far the worst. Hands down. Horrible customer service and communication, no willingness to help their customers, delayed flights all the time, employees with a crap ton of attitude. Seriously do NOT go with this company. I don't care how cheap your flight is, time is so much more expensive. We ended up paying the same price as a more expensive flight because we got so many drinks during the THREE HOUR DELAY. So many things went wrong for my flight from Dallas to Eugene and Eugene to Dallas. Like one hour wait for my luggage and thirty minutes for a shuttle that we had to take for our connecting flight . Because American changed our gate to a totally different concourse. Then when we tried to check in to our other flight to New Orleans ( because American booked us on a totally different reservation. ) the agent with a totally arrogant attitude says ' well you supposed to get here 2 hours in advance '.Hey genius your airline had us waiting 1 hour to get our luggage and 30 minutes for a shuttle. Complained to customer service . Their answer ' sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your feedback it will help in the future and we look forward to serving you again. I've flown with AA at least 10 times now. I've never had a delayed flight and have always had helpful employees. I feel like people oftentimes let their noses get in their way and think air travel is something glamorous that should go perfectly. Let's be clear. You're flying in a tin can with 150+ other people, for countless miles, 35k plus miles in the air. It's not glamorous. It's efficient. If I pay for a coach seat, I expect coach accommodations, nothing more, nothing less. Treat them with respect and they will do the same; it's amazing how far a smile will go. Thank you AA! read more

"Oh, honestly American Airlines in New Orleans," the sweet senior citizen ahead of me in line screamed. My sentiment. Only I had a different choice of words when it was my turn to take an airline beating from AA. This is a review for the check in process, which was and still is...entirely horrific. I get it, American--most of your competition isn't much better. So why should you not nickel-and-dime your customers? So, here's the story. While my husband is parking out car, I (along with two very small children) roll in with our cart containing an overwhelming amount of luggage, consisting mostly of baby gear (two car seats, a child's fold-up crib and a double Bob stroller). The other huge piece of luggage was a bike case containing a triathlon bike. Other than that, two pieces of check on luggage (four paid tickets). From a consolidation perspective, it was easier for me to pack two pieces of heavier luggage versus schlepping around four pieces of lighter luggage. The check in line is surprisingly empty; I scanned the faces of the agents and each one was glaring at me. I heard one say, "come on down." With two kids running around, and my big cart bogged down by luggage, I knew I was about to get robbed. I thought to myself, "who needs TSA security theater, when you have thieves working behind the counter of ticketing line!" Without any hesitation the charges started coming. Side note: I already paid for my luggage 2/3 pieces (strollers and other baby gear are free ). The third piece was all I should have paid for: a bike container, which according to AA's website is a flat $150 (unless it's overweight, which was not the case with the feather weight triathlon bike). I was immediately accused of letting one suitcase rest on my ankle. I picked up the suitcase with one arm, set it down again. "22.7 lbs" it read. The ticket agent looked disappointed. Next up: second piece of luggage. It was in a four-foot long duffle bag, half full. I set it on the scale. 52.3 lbs. "It's 2.5 lbs overweight," I was told, followed by "that's a $100 fee." I responded with, "there's a toddlers fold up crib in there. Let me remove it." Since I didn't have the clasp to hold it together, I could let it freestyle with the other baby gear; it needed to be contained in a bag. I was then asked if I could remove the additional couple of pounds into another bag. I replied with, "I don't have enough hands as it is, I'm not sure adding another bag for 2.3 lbs is wise." $100 fee added on. Now it's the bike's turn. My husband arrived in time for this performance. After pointing, whispering amongst agents and more looks of disapproval, my ticket agent returned, literally rubbing her hands together with greedy excitement. "That's going to be $150.00 + $100.00 for an oversize fee." I started to nod my head with agreement, but stopped when I realized I was being doubly charged. "Isn't the $150 the flat fee for oversized items under 50 lbs?" The agent was very confused. We went back-and-forth with disagreement and finally I asked to speak to a manager. Unfortunately for us, the manager was the next computer over who had been standing there listening to us. She had her response all ready to go: "the charges are 'as is' and we don't have control over the rules. You either pay or you don't." I agreed with her and reminded her that wasn't the issue. The issue was that they were changing the fee structure. After quite a bit of arguing, the agents left their respective stations to convene in the back. The lack of customers allowed them to do this. Five long minutes went by (we have now been at the ticket counter for almost 30 mins), and four women join me at the counter. Without words being said to me, two agents coached a new agent. The tickets were processed, everything seemed good to go. "I just need your card for the additional fees" I was told. "Let's clarify the fees one last time to get on the same page," I requested. Instead of telling me, she wrote them out: $50 for one bag; $150 for another ($100 extra for 2.3 lbs); $150 for third bag that is a stroller in a bag (supposed to be free); $150 + $100 for an bike in a shell with a combined weight of 43lbs. I pointed out a few issues: 1. Baby strollers are free of charge; 2. I already paid for 2 bags, so I only needed to pay $100 in an overweight fee; 3. That extra charge for the bike is still there. AA was about to make an easy $350 off of us. We finally fixed the problem and nearly missed our flight. Of course, they could have made more money from that! So much for arriving in the ticket line 2.25 hours early. Our stroller arrived to our destination with the front wheel missing. We had to rent a running stroller for $30/day in South Beach. If you do that math, $30/day times 9 days, plus tax, plus delivery fees. No, they did not find the wheel, nor do they pay for it. Too bad I was about to book 44 tickets from NYC to SF. I wish there was negative stars, because I'd give American Airlines a big fat -10! Our flight was delayed for "mechanical issues" for 6 hours. The plane sat at the terminal with no one working to fix it for hours! This delay made us miss our connecting flight. Which then delayed us till the following day in Dallas (we were flying from Nola). In a totally of over 24 hours of waiting to get to our final destination. Horrible airline. "Delayed" baggage notifications that were not consistent with what was on their luggage tracking app. When I repeatedly called to get updates on delivery I got completely different answers every time I called. One time I called I was told the bag was being loaded for delivery, when I called back a couple of hours later I was told the bags were still at the airport !! No one would provide me with any information on when they would be delivered. No phone calls or emails with updates. Overall just nothing but crappy customer service. I only fly American because I have to since they have the contract for government flights......but I'm going to do anything and everything I can to try and see that they lose it !!! I had the worst flying experience of my life on Sunday ,June 23 on AA flight 1211 Dallas to New Orleans.We sat on the tarmac for 1.5 hours in 97 degree heat without air conditioning.It was an inferno in the plane with hot air blowing from the vents ---babies screaming ---adults screaming .I have no idea in this age of technology that a portable air conditioner unit could not be brought out to our plane or at a minimum let the passengers go back in the terminal.It was horrendous !! read more

This review is for Titania Montoya at the AA check in counter at New Orleans International Airport. While checking in to a NOLA-DFW flight, American Airlines was unable to find my sister's reservation. Ms. Montoya claimed at first that the reservation didn't exist. When we showed her proof that it did, she said that it had been canceled. When I said that that was impossible as my sister had flown in on that same reservation, with me, she snapped at me to "SHUT YOUR MOUTH" and called me a liar in front of a line full of customers. Then she proceeded to ignore me for the next 30 or so minutes. I've worked in customer service before and understand that it can be difficult to deal with frustrated customers, especially when some things are outside of your control. However, I have never chastised a customer, spitefully ignored them, or insulted them, and especially not in public. I have also never seen another customer service representative treat a customer as disrespectfully as Ms. Montoya did. I recommend AA reviews its customer service. Not for my sake, as I will never be flying with the airline again, but for the rest of their customers that deserve to be treated like fellow human beings. (Funnily enough, as soon as we told her that her behavior would be reported, she suddenly found my sister's reservation. No apologies from her end, of course). read more

You know, the airlines do whatever they want to do and the hell with the passenger. I have said before that I prefer not to fly with this airline because they are just worthless when it cmoes to customer service. Well...they don't HAVE customer service because they don't CARE. Our flight was delayed for weather. So we take off three hours later. We get sent to Charlotte, NC instead of Dallas, TX for a destination at NOLA. We get to Charlotte, they cancel our flight back to NOLA and we are stuck in Charlotte. And...the airline isn't going to pay for over night accomodations. We get a discount voucher which did help but it is 11:00 pm at night and we don't really know where we're going to go. I succeeded in finding a hotel close by with a free shuttle. However, we have to turn around and get back up 3 hours later for an early flight to Atlanta, back to NOLA. Here's the thing folks, it doesn't really do any good complaining about these vultures. They're going to do whatever they want to do, no matter what the inconvenience to their passengers because there simply aren't many alternatives and they know it...so they screw the daylights out of you every chance they get. read more

I would like to let you know about a gate agent named Lisa, middle aged blonde lady, who went above and beyond to help me with my situation. This morning October 5, I was boarding flight 1096 out of New Orleans at about 5:40am. I received a call from my wife because I forgot to give her our house key and she was locked out. I was about to get on the plane and I asked Lisa if there was anything I could do to get the key to the front area so my wife could pick it up. I didn't want to have to go through security again because I would not have made my flight. Lisa was quick to respond giving me an envelope asking me to write down my wife's name and number and said she would personally deliver the envelope to the sky cap outside so my wife could pick it up. I can't tell you how much of a relief this was to hear especially as I was trying to board a plane at the last minute. Lisa went above and beyond! THANK YOU LISA! read more

The whole experience was very unamerican. People should have the option of personal service or kiosk. I was not asked. Just directed like cattle. I also found it really doesn't matter, because your employees aren't very helpful either. When I asked to be booked on the next flight out, I was told sure. Only to find out I was put on standby. As it turned out, the flight was almost completely booked with 2 open seats and 10 people hoping to get one of them. When I told my daughter about my terrible experience, she nodded her head and said that's why she and her husband NEVER fly American airlines. They fly 3-4 times a year. I have another flight planned for February. Surprise surprise, I will NOT be using American airlines. I expect that this review will fall on deaf ears. When you need to give a rating just to get started and just under the 1 star rating it reads "Eek methinks not", just further shows how little you care about providing good service. Thank goodness there are other airlines who do still care about the service they provide. I will be using them in the future and will never fly with your airline again. Good luck figuring it out. If I could give 0 stars I would! Worst flying experience of my ENTIRE LIFE!!!! we were flying home from St.Thomas in route to Miami (arrival time was supposed to be 8:20 p.m.). They said that we were being re-routed due to "poor weather conditions" however, none of the connection flights were delayed leaving Miami. They re-routed us to Fort Meyer and I have never ever had this happen before but they literally put us off the plane in Fort Meyer (checked bags and all) and just left us there!!! I didn't know they could do that!!! just put you out 2 1/2 hours from your destination!!! The entire plane!! We all had to go get our checked bags and we sat there at Fort Meyer for 3 HOURS!!!!!! When busses...... that's right.... BUSSES!!!! Bussed us 2 1/2 hours back to Miami.... They had no system checking to see who was boarding these busses. If you were in our line with a bag you could just get on the bus! Anyone could have boarded those busses!!! Definite Security Violation at the very least!!! at 1:30 a.m. we FINALLY arrive back at Miami airport and we asked several American Airline Staff Members if they were aware of our issue or did we have to stand in this ridiculously long line (We were expecting at the very least an apology and a Hotel Voucher to get a bit of rest as we had been up for quite some time by this point and most of that was spent standing in lines.) We were told we had to stand in line with everyone else so we proceeded to stand in this nightmare line (poor lady in front of me had 5 children with her and it was the saddest situation I had ever seen. They were all crying and she looked like she might have a nervous breakdown). So we stand in this line from 1:30 to 3:30 a.m. barely moving and finally an American Airline Staff member that had been standing there watching us all night came over and asked "How many of you were on the St. Thomas flight?" then he stated he was going to move us to our own line at one of the kiosk's that wasn't even open yet because "he knew we had already been through so much". HA! once we were all moved he told us the Kiosk would open at around 3:45-4:00 a.m. so we stood and waited and we could over-hear the American Airline staff members joking behind the counter asking each other if they were "ready to do this" and once they opened the line started clapping and the staff members rolled their eyes and were completely rude and unprofessional like we were causing them an inconvenience..... I mean no apology, rude service..... it was ridiculous.. We were re-booked for a 7:00 a.m. flight to our destination which was New Orleans. We go to St. Thomas annually and we always have trouble with American!!!! Never to this extent and we are usually given a room voucher and at the very least allowed to get a shower and some rest before having to catch the next flight out the next day but this time they were HORRIBLE!! Rude is an understatement! Next time.... note to self..... we will be taking Southwest to San Juan and then catching Jet Blue from San Juan to St. Thomas just to avoid dealing with American!! you just lost two very loyal customers (My Husband and Myself). I have never had this experience in all my years of flying, and I've flown into some really crummy places and even deployed to Iraq (My husband and Me are both prior service Military that deployed to Iraq and I have to say that deployment was 10 times more pleasant that dealing with American Airlines). I just cannot ....Oh wait! The Biscotti cookies were yummy! Other than that... We used the kiosk to pay for our checked bags and were then told at the counter our flight had been cancelled for maintenance. Phone call, text, email, something could have been used to inform us. And, no, they did not have another flight out that day but we have been transferred to Delta and, no, they could not refund or transfer luggage fees, we have to do that at a later date on the phone and pay again when we get to Delta. And by the way, there is not a record of your return flight. Omg. Loved the cookies! I asked for the can of ginger ale because I do not care for the ice and am learning in certain situations to be better germ safe and my husband did the same but with ice. She gave us a nasty look handed us two cups of ice, one can of ginger ale, and walked off. For the return flight we had gone to get something to eat and almost missed our flight when they boarded early. We mentioned we did not hear a call out and she said oh no, they do not do that, they only announce in there lobby. At one point I did need to use the restroom and as the stewardess was sitting right there I asked if they had any new magazines to have clean puzzles to work on. With another wth look she just shook her head and looked away. I understand not all planes have everything but there was no screen to watch, there was not a plug to charge or play with a phone, the old radio system they had did not work. They could replace a magazine and refrain from offering the nasty attitudes instead. AA had nothing to offer but cookies. Ruff ruff! read more

Terrible Experience!! Never Again! A group of me and two friends arrived for our separate flights home (5:40am, 5:58am, and 6:02am) 1.5 hours early to find all TSA lines backed up into the airline check-ins and even into other concourse TSA sections -- we all missed our flights along with many, many other travelers; I am writing this from my second standby possibility with 20 other standby travelers who all missed the same flight due to the TSA issues and there are no other flights available all day, only standby. Then, to make matters worse, I find out that I cannot even meet up with my friends while we wait hours for our rerouted (hopefully, for me) flights because the terminals do not connect! A long, lonely day because this airport does not have their act together. When the AA agent was getting me on the standby lists, i said "i've never seen anything like this!", to which she responded, "I have." This is a common early morning occurrence. If you can book with JetBlue, they are the ONLY airline that went through to make sure their passengers got priority in order to make their flights. AA has been completely unhelpful in this sad, lonely, long day. ************************UPDATE************************************** 12:17pm and I am still here in American Airlines' section of the terminal. I have been informed that all flights are overbooked. I don't know how they get away with that. I will never be flying American Airlines again -- they let a flight go on time in the morning even though they know TSA is having problems and 23 of their flight customers are checked in (thats JUST on my flight, not the 3 others that flew out at the same time), and then overbook the rest of the day's flights? unreal. This review is definitely a combination of the airport for their horrible TSA system and AA for their shady systems. Over the past few months more and more flights have been delayed and/or canceled due to maintenance issues. This happens from time to time it's understandable, it seems like all flights have been progressing this way with limited flights not needing an overhaul before take off. Today our flight was canceled. 10 hour between flights. Have you ever eaten at the airport, it's very overpriced. American Airlines declines assistance with even a food voucher unless it's over night. 9:30am flight canceled rebooked for 7:43pm flight not in your home town. So now not only are you late your out an extravagant amount of money for food and drink calling people to take care of pets. Great is what your going for? Is that great amount of delays, aggravation, and inconvenience. Thankfully your not sending flights with damage. These reviews are consistent. Here is my experience; They canceled my flight with out letting me know. They re-booked me for a flight leaving the next day at 6am. The AA worker (Victoria) was extremely unhelpful. She said all flights were grounded due to weather, later in the conversation she said she could get me to NC but there wouldn't be a flight to Chicago (my final destination). After looking at different flight it was obvious I was going to have to stay an extra night. AA wouldn't put me up in a hotel despite canceling my flight and forcing me to stay an extra night. I voiced my disapproval (in a calm manner) and she said "well if I controlled the weather, I would be a rich person, I wouldn't be working here" and proceeded to laugh in my face. Now I have experienced a lot of terrible customer service in my life, but Victoria was one of the worst. She made a bad situation worse and on top of that made me want to avoid flying AA ever again. This was 6 months ago and I try and tell everyone my story. Will I be back to AA? I am not sure, but AA needs to work on customer service. I had an international flight through JAL which was operated by AA, the rules for the cut off time is 30 minutes prior to departure, I arrive 50 minutes before my departure date, went to the kiosk but my ticket could not be found, after the personnel at AA tried three times and still could not find out information, we was finally told to go to the counter. At the counter the lady told us that we are late because it is 45 minutes cut off time to check in bags, when the website stated 30 min. She told us at 7:35 that we can't check in our bags and we miss the flight. The flight was for 8:15. read more

I had a high fever and begged for a blanket. I honestly thought I was going to throw up. The flight attendant very rudely told me they only gave blankets to first class. I offered to even pay for one, I was freezing and the flight was two hours (felt like six because of how cold I was). Both my boyfriend and I missed work the following day and angered our employers. We had to pay for another room, food, and cab fare back to our room. Not happy. We arrived at MSY at roughly 7:55 am for a flight from MSY to Charlotte, en route to JFK. What ensued was a failure of gigantic proportions on behalf of American Airlines. Upon entry into the airport, we immediately noticed the glut of passengers in the baggage check line. We checked in via kiosk, but were not provided with a receipt; as such, we entered the bag check line. For the next 45 to 50 minutes we stood essentially steadfast. There was one professional working the terminals, and she was stuck assisting one customer. The professional's name in question was "King." Instead of delegating him to another professional, or having other professionals appear, the line continued to remain motionless. Finally some supervisor determined it was prudent to delegate other professionals to the terminals -- this was too little too late. Even so, for the next 15 minutes the second professional was mired in a language barrier Hades -- absolutely not her fault, but certainly further impacting the flow. Finally, American elected to send more professionals and open more kiosks, but at this point we, and so many more customers, had missed their flight. We were able to reschedule our flight, but that in and of itself was a problem. We were told we would arrive in NYC at 4:26 pm; that MIGHT allow us to meet my girlfriend's father to celebrate his birthday. Due to delays by the crew, however (they missed their flight), we would not actually arrive until closer 5:26 pm. This makes it impossible to meet that obligation. Here is the takeaway -- American completely failed at staffing, made us miss our flight, charged us $75 per person to rebook, and made us miss my girlfriend's father's birthday. I will be reporting this via Yelp and various other social media sites to express my dissatisfaction -- more importantly, when we go to visit her family, we will always choose Jet Blue in the future unless given incentive to do otherwise. American fundamentally failed at customer service, they cost me extra money, and they could not observe the flow of their customers and adapt accordingly. They made me gate check my bag for being too large for the plane even though the people boarding before and after me had bags the exact same size. Even though I flew my bag to New Orleans just fine (which I told them) it apparently won't this time. When I boarded and saw all the bags like mine fit perfectly I asked if I could bring my bag down and was told no because once I give it over it, I can't touch it again until I reach my destination. Neeeeeeever fly American Airlines. All of the bad reviews are true. It's not worth the cheaper airfare. I have no idea how many airlines I've used, and American Airlines is the absolute worst. Somehow Spirit is better than them. Even all of the employees I've encountered are beyond rude. I've had so many problems on this trip solely due to them, I don't even know where to start. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had with an airline. I missed my connecting flight 1705 to Tucson from Dallas Fort Worth. I told the airline before I left New Orleans that if I can't make my connecting flight due to a weather delay to reschedule my flight for tomorrow. They said it's not gonna be an issue and I'll make it for sure, but if not I'll get a hotel voucher. I said okay awesome. However when I landed we waited on the airport tarmac for 20 min and because of that I missed my flight. As I exited the gate I waited 15 min to talk to a desk agent who directed me to gate c26, I was coming from c16. I waited there patiently to talk to someone and they said they will help me once she closes her flight to Chicago, I said thank you. I then waited over 30 min and she took her bag and left without even a goodbye. I then was directed to wait at the customer service desk which by now the line has tripled. I wait in line for another 20 min and am redirected back to the gate I was just at because they said the wait was shorter there. I said no I just came from there and told them what happened to which they replied "I don't care you can do what you want." After waiting I was then able to talk to someone at the desk and they said they were out of hotel vouchers and the only thing they can do is reschedule my flight which they did for tomorrow morning at 9 am. I then ask what am I supposed to do in the meantime they said you can get a hotel yourself but we are not giving a voucher or even a discount. I ask for the manager who has been dealing with multiples of the same scenario of people wanting vouchers that were promised and he was very unapologetic toward the situation and when I asked for people's names they didn't disclose them fearing I would make a complaint. He then said cots will be coming I'll get you one if I can but unfortunately that's all I can do. I replied that's fine thank you after waiting over an hour no cots came and very few blankets were passed out. Luckily I was able to get one but gave it to a kid who needed it more than me. So here I wait here on the hard cold floor upset with the professionalism of the flight team for American Airlines. I can't even catch any sleep with the amount of noise that is passing by in the halls. #americanairlines is the worst at customer service I'm not sure if it lack of training or team members just upset in which case don't give attitude towards your paying customers. It's unfortunate I will no longer be flying with this company. read more
