Airlines in my opinion should start from back to front which would cut alot of time of bumping and knocking ppl around trying to get to your seat. My wife got an e-mail telling her that 12,140 points had been removed from her account. We call the next morning to check on this . After about 5 or 6 questions to verify who she was, they told us that someone had purchased a gift card with her points. After we convinced then that it was not her they told us that they would do NOTHING to get her points back. They told us that we could contact customer service for help. I definitely don't enjoy giving bad reviews nor do I give many of them but I very much share the common frustration that others have also commented on regarding this airline at this particular airport. I had no issue with American Airlines in St Louis. Normally, when people do a review on a business like this, it is to vent or aire a single incident or gripe. American is always my first choice to fly if I have one. The staff here were professional and friendly. They were also knowledgeable and helpful. My flights out of here have always taken off on time and landed a bit early. Even though the majority of my flights have been smooth, It is pretty much out of their control sometimes. The onboard entertainment on their flights are pretty good. Most all of their planes have wifi that will allow you to track your flight, see connecting gate information, listen to music and view live television and movies from your own personal device. Their snacks leave a bit to be desired. They do give you the full can drinks the majority of the time, but they only have those nasty rectangular cookies. Bring back the pretzels and peanuts. On a positive note my flight was a little more than an hour, a couple of times, and they still served snacks. I enjoy flying with American and am sad to see that they have gotten so many negative reviews. Welll over 90% of my experiences with the airline have been positive. We purchased 2 business class tickets to Bangor Maine from St. Louis MO. We arrived on time for a 7:50 am flight. That flight was delayed so we would miss our connecting flight in charlotte. We were rebooked on a 10:08 am flight to Dallas. Then to Philadelphia. Both flights down graded to economy. Our final flight of the day is to Bangor getting in at 11:00 pm. Hoping we make it to the car rental. What a mess!!!! I'm so done with American. This is not the first time we have had issues. We are sitting on the plane now to Dallas. I feel like American Airlines did a bait and switch with Sky West. Pay attention when you're booking a flight. American Airlines has farmed out some of their flights to Sky West. The plane says American Eagle and the cockpit outside it reads "operated by Sky West". The plane is smaller. The experience is notably, novice. Our pilot missed the deboarding platform by 1 foot so we all had to sit back down and seatbelt up again. I could also tell by the rough way we prepared to land. But the most important inconvenience was that once we got to the main terminal, they had us go through a door onto a shuttle to another location where smaller planes are, a makeshift terminal, which added an additional 30 to 45 minutes each way. There were two extensive lines for terminals four and five. Both were the same length to get on the shuttle to the main terminal. When the line in front of me emptied onto the shuttle, the girl in the yellow vest literally pulled the blue strap from the poles right in front of me when I was the only one left standing! I had been there the whole entire time even when the line was long! The chaos was palpable because they don't know what they're doing and when you're tired from a flight, the last thing you wanna do is take a shuttle to the real terminal. The shuttle is literally in traffic against the airplanes on the tarmac. Not only that, but after you get shuttled to the main terminal, you have a 5-10 minute walk to get to passenger pickup! Very disappointing because I have the AA credit card and was choosing American Airlines, not Sky West. The seats seem more cramped and the seatbelts are smaller. No place to pitch your phone for a movie. Not impressed at all. read more

American airlines is the worst. If the option is American airlines or walking, I'll walk. They cancelled our 2 pm flight then bumped us to a 5am flight the next day with a 10 hour layover, even though they had a 6 pm flight. We paid extra to select our seats on a non-stop flight but that wasn't taken into consideration when "Princess" rebooked us. When I asked the staff at the airport why we didn't get the seating we paid for she didn't know anything. It took three calls to get our seats confirmed. They refused to give us hotel accomodations, claiming the cancellation was due to the weather even though other airlines were flying. This was the second time in 6 months that American bumped my family members. This booking was my first and last flight with American. After an hour and thirty minutes of sitting on the runway, they say the plane had a history of issues and returned us back to the airport. We had a 48 hour delay with American Airlines. They kept canceling our flights and did not even pay for a hotel. They were not helpful with getting us on the next possible flights and we became stranded. The only thing they did was put us on standby for a flight that ended up being canceled! We were supposed to be home to St.Louis on Sunday but did not arrive until Tuesday night thanks to a different airline. We are still working on getting our refund from American Airlines. This is possibly the worst airline known to mankind. This is the second time this year that I've not been allowed on a flight even though I'm almost an hour early before departure. When asking for assistance at the front desk, the workers are absolutely incompetent always deferring to a different staff member just to end up telling you "you have to call" and when you do try to call it'll take an average of 20-30min to get your call answered. For future reference, it's probably a good idea to just sleep at the airport the night BEFORE your flight so they'll let you on the plan xD Even then I'm not sure they'd let you on! I had the worst experience getting simple problems solved over the phone. Once you get to talk to a live representative it's fine but until ypu get there, might as well quit your day job! Several Menü options get you in a circle of hell and several times when asked to put in option '1 'or '2' in the bot did not accept the answer. When asked to be called back I was told it be 7-13 min.. the call arrived more than 25 min later! Also I but in my TSA number in on multi city trip and the only airline that did not stick was AA! I'm finally back to more regular travel for work and this time the schedule worked best with American. Although I was worried when I saw that they had the worst history in terms of delays and cancellations surrounding the July 4th holiday, I crossed my fingers and got to the airport early. I was on a small plane heading out to Detroit (the single seats along one end and two in the other, no first class) and the whole process of making people check their bags at the gate went faster than I expected. We boarded on time, left on time - even had soft drinks and pretzels and landed early! On the way home I was sure something would go wrong since there was bad weather passing through. But, even with a delay in boarding because of lightening (the jet bridge can't be out when lightning is spotted) the gate personnel ran the process of checking bags like the military and we got out on time and landed early. Ok so this was my experience with American Airlines. I have flown with them several times but this is the first time I feel like people were profiling me. To be clear I literally have flown with them several times but this time was like no other. 1 they changed the location of the flight with felt like a hike in LGA AIRPORT. 2 they told my husband the mask he was wearing was not something they allow anymore. I mean I completely understand but the same man that told my husband he could wear a particular mask another guy ‍with the same mask didn't get asked to change his mask. 3rd let me say that I very much dress in sweat when I get on the plane because I want to be comfortable. So anyways I pay extra for main cabin because who doesn't like space ya know. I can see if I looked confused but dang you really just walked up and assumed I don't suppose to be here man that hurt. Make your own breakfast on the plane. 2 bags of instant oatmeal chopped up fruit **ask the attendant for 2 cups** 1cup full of hot water Pour the 2 bags of instant oatmeal into one cup. Pour the hot water over the cereal...don't overflow!! Mix and add your fruit! Don't forget to ask for a beverage of your choice! Yummy totally worth it breakfast! Add a cup of yogurt...nuttella or tidbit of peanut butter for an extra zing (watch out for the smell of peanut butter...some folks have allergic reactions to the smell of peanut butter). *btw, check in crew should stop ALL conversations when they see folks are in line. The old biddy that checked me in said I was 2 minutes late so she put me on a different flight with 3 stops. WTF. stop talking and she would have seen me waiting 5 minutes for her silly %$@. The other crew member at the gate hooked me up and was pleasant. She knew the person who bullied me. I stood watching as my plane started boarding (the one I was originally booked on) and there was still enough time to have gotten my bags on board or me to check the bag at the gate! I am just real happy that I was not traveling with small children who would have been able to witness for themselves this blatant act of racial discrimination - yes in the year 2019. Went to St. Louis Airport 2.5 hrs early to fly to my brother's wedding in Europe. At the airport, we were met with a wall of people and an extremely long line. Patiently waited in line about an hour and realized we had barely moved. Walked up to the counter, explained to Richard at the counter I'm about to miss my flight and in turn missing connecting flights all the way to Europe. His answer, "guess you will have to miss your flights then". After I stared at him in disbelief, he stated "you can ask each and every passenger if you can go infront of them in line". What?! American Airlines customer service is horrible to work with! My family booked flights and partially paid for the flights using airline credits we had due to a cancellation caused by the COVID pandemic. We were told we could make any changes for free within the next 48 hours. Just a few hours later I noticed a better and cheaper flight had just come available with enough seats now showing. I called the customer service number again and they helped me switch everything to the new flight. They told me that my account would be credited for the difference. Never once did he mention that I would receive MORE airline credits instead of a credit to my card that was used. This is a HORRIBLE way to do business. I have made multiple calls, sat on hold for hours only to be told to submit everything in an email so that someone could call me. If this airline cared anything about its customers and having repeat business, they would issue any refunds or changes in fees to the credit card first and then issue airline credits for any amount over what was charged to the card. I will never fly AA again if this is not resolved how it should be. read more

Got to the St Louis airport 2 hours early for our domestic flight back to North Carolina. We fly first class, and waited in priority line to get our boarding passes and bags checked. They only had 1 agent available to check in priority, and 4 agents for main. There were 2 agents walking around the kiosk area. With what would seem like a good amount of help, the place was an absolute shit show. The priority line didn't move for an hour..after that they finally brought another agent to help. For over an hour one agent was working with a women who's flight was cancelled, trying to find a new one for her. Since the line was held up, we , along with 4 other families ended up missing our flights. American Airlines has poor customer service and exhibits lack of communication between the agents. If they would have communicated they would be taking a bit longer with a customer, therefor holding up the priority line, a lot of families would have made their flights. Many complained to the girls running the kiosk area, and the agents were extremely rude and unprofessional. Also not helpful. Be better, do better AA. read more
