We stopped into American barrel the Friday after Thanksgiving, we were on our way to the steakhouse across the street and we're an hour early for a reservation. So we went into American barrel, had a seat on the couch. It is a beautiful location. What a gorgeous building with a wall of bourbon. The old-fashioneds were perfect. Our server Lacey, we could not have asked for anyone nicer or more attentive. She made it so nice to be there. We will be back on our next trip to Columbia! read more

Third time here. Lovely ambiance and great - albeit pricey - cocktails. Today, however, was so highly disappointing that we won't return. Middle of the afternoon, only one table occupied, we had just walked through a rainstorm and were dripping wet. The kind waitress at the end of the bar asked if we'd like a towel. Then she looked at the bartender (marine vet), who shook his head no. She looked at us apologetically and shrugged. Simple, common courtesy and good manners matter more than anything else. A dirty martini is as simple as it gets and not sure what olive juice they use but it was awful. Also don't think the server knew what their ingredients were in each cocktail. This is a classic cocktail bar, fantastic music at the perfect volume, allowing easy intimate conversation. The menu is simple and delightful. Most importantly the absolute best Old Fashions ever, home made bitters are incredible. The Cosmos are top notch as well. The owner, a Marine Veteran is behind the bar. We went on a Saturday night. We were seated & the no one ever took our order. We had to go get a waitress after seeing everyone else get service that came in after us. We all ordered cocktails & were never asked once if we wanted more drinks, one of our food orders was wrong, the food was not great & very tiny portions for the cost. The lighting is terrible, very bright. Really wanted to try more drinks but we could never get the waitresses attention. Left & went to another place for drinks. read more

You expect to pay $18 in downtown Nashville at a luxury restaurant but not in Columbia. I was hoping for a "knock your socks off" tasting martini . I absolutely love this little spot. For someone with sensory sensitivities, it's perfect--low lighting and soft music create a calm, relaxing atmosphere. The service is always great. Good cocktails and cute place! Service was very slow but friendly. They seemed understaffed and ran out of the main tapas dishes so I was unable to try a few. The butter board was cute but not enough bread, spinach and artichoke dip was no good and sticky like a blob of cheese- skip that until they work on that recipe. They JUST opened, so give a little grace as they figure out some of the systems but let me just say the decor is completely on point with a modern meets 1920s Gatsby vibe, art deco furniture mix with velvet sofas I want everything in this place in my house! Be cocktails but very interesting and they also have Papa's life bourbon bites which is smoke sausage with bourbon brown sugar glaze, spinach dip made order block steak strips burrata and butter boards.. They are open Tuesday -Thursday 11-9 and Fri/Sat 11-11 despite what Yelp says. They also have a large selection of mocktails and coffees, yay! Stopped in to American Barrel while visiting friends to have a drink with my BH. When we walked into the establishment, it was a little confusing because the chairs were upside down on the tables, leading us to believe they hadn't opened yet. There were people (and a small child) sitting at the bar and after double checking the hours, I knew it was opened. The small child had their tablet on with the volume so loud, it was distracting and definitely took away from the ambiance that American Barrel wants to achieve. When we visited, they had no food menu, and a very limited drink menu that only had drink specials, and no menu that provided written costs of beer, wine, mixed drinks, etc. Russian Roulette for bar drinks, right? We had two Old Fashioneds and split the Burrata. The Burrata was yummy and the Old Fashioneds were good, but nothing exceptional. When we got the check, I was a little surprised to see that the Old Fashioneds were almost $26 a piece. ...for place that had a small child seated at a bar. I can't say we'll be back. read more

It's about time Columbia got a cocktail bar!! They were only open this weekend as a soft open, but it was so great! The staff was super friendly, helpful, and attentive. I ordered the Floral Fashion from their limited menu. It was a Gin drink with citrus and chamomile bitters and lavender syrup. This was so tasty! I love the chamomile and lavender combo. It was super smooth, slightly sweet, and pretty floral! The vibes here are great. They did a fantastic job of remodeling and decorating the space. Can't wait for this place to fully open! I'll probably be here every weekend. :) read more

Fantastic decor and atmosphere. We are not hard to please, but the service was pretty dreadful. Had to call a server over to order because no one had even brought us a glass of water. Not once did anyone check on us to see how we were doing or if we needed anything. Had to ask for silverware when our food arrived. Food was just OK. The fig salad was good, but definitely over priced for the amount. Again, had to flag down a server to ask about dessert. If you're just going for cocktails, you're probably OK, but they have such a beautiful place that they really need to up their game on the food and service! read more

Columbia is a great place to hang out and American Barrel is a unique little spot. The bartender was impressed at my Scotch choice, probably because most patrons couldn't tell a decent Whisky from a Carrie Underwood song. Ok yeah I'm a bit of a Whisky snob. The food is more bar style appetizers, but it's pretty good as an accompaniment. Not a place to plan a meal but definitely a place to go after and enjoy a good dram or cocktail. Also, the location in the increasingly trendy square sets it a part from some of Columbia's other drinking holes and gives it more of a classic vibe. Recommended! read more

The drinks were good, a little overpriced, but with the atmosphere and vibe it levels itself out for sure. Staff was great as well. The bartender, buff white guy with beard idk his name but he was attentive and looked happy to be there so that's a plus. Figured well I like the drinks, let me order something off of their bar food menu, ordered the steak strips, when it came out it was so small and laughable for the price I'm surprised it didn't come with lipstick. You'll get more protein from the small bag of peanuts you get on a Southwest Airlines flight. I got more meat on me than the meat they gave me and I ain't gifted like that. We stopped by for some cocktails and a quick snack one Friday evening. They were out of food, so I can't comment on it. The drinks were uneven. We ordered off of their specialty drink list and the drinks looked great. The flavor wasn't great. Another group asked what we got and ordered the same drinks and they looked pretty different.
