This spot is perfect. They are a small specialty shop, and I believe the only one that just caters to brewing of some type in Wake, NC. They just do home brewing supplies, equipment, ingredients for beer. Brewing books for beer, wine, and cider. Home brew kits for the beginner, and different ingredients for all types of beers that you might want to brew. If they do not have a specific hop or other ingredient, they can suggest an alternative to that ingredient that will be comparable, or order the one that you need/want. I found that their service and knowledge was exceptional, and that this comes from hands on experience in all types of brewing. If you are more advanced, they have kegging supplies so you can scale up if needed. I bought one of their Pale Ale pre-packaged kits for a 5 gallon home brew, and a specialty IPA that I will try after my initial journey in the beer brewing world. The kits can range from mid 30's to upper 40's, depending on the number of hops and other ingredients in them, so not a bad value for 5 gallons of beer. Their will be an initial investment that is not too bad with the brewing and bottling equipment that you need to start and finish your product, but the ROI would be captured after a few good successful beer brews. Expect a 2 week turnaround for each batch, and you are good. Also, have a list of friends that like fresh beer, because at 48-50 beers every couple weeks or so, you might need bigger pants, lol. But, good beer is still 9-12 bucks a six pack these days, so once you get the hang of it, I would imagine your budget will be in good shape. The store us ok. Normal homebrew store. They have a lot of yeast, focus mostly on beer, and a decent amount of grains (both prepackaged and not). The thing that get's the 5 stars is the customer service. BRAND new to homebrewing beer, I had bought a kit off of Amazon, and it never fermented. I stopped in to buy yeast, in case I ran into this problem again, I could have some on hand. The owner wasn't there, but I got talking to the girl behind the counter, and the next thing I knew, I was on the phone with the owner. He was at home, relaxing on his back deck, listening to birds, and he spent probably half an hour talking me through the ins and outs of homebrewing. Not trying to sell me things, or upsell what I was getting. Just two people shooting the breeze. It was really nice, he absolutely did not have to do that. read more

What can I say? These guys have everything I need to brew wine and beer. I needed a bottle tree to air dry my bottles and I spied a gallon of honey. "MEAD" I thought to myself, so I spoke with one of the guys and they pointed me in the right direction to put everything I needed together to brew a six gallon batch of mead. Now, In the meantime, I still had 20 gallons of wine to bottle. No worries. Again, more advice and more supplies. I'm in good shape, got 84 bottles done and still have a few to go. Next week is secondary fermentation for the mead - might need help drinking some of this stuff next month. read more

On December 10, 2021 I purchased a beer homebrewing kit for my son. We went to store and first found out that the base kit ($60) was not in stock although I had been told on phone a few days before that it was. I even called a few hours before going there and man responded they had the kits in the store but I did not ask for specific types. So ended up buying deluxe ($90) when he said it would be several weeks before getting base. Hmm.. The man who helped was nice and polite. However, he came from back of store wearing no mask although all three of us (son, grandson, and me) were wearing them. When I asked him about his mask he said he did not have one. I told him at my age (77) Covid is death and I was not ready to die yet and started to walk out. He quickly went to side room and came back with one of the blue one liners and put it on. He was always polite and helpful with purchases. But I do not feel I can give a high rating. The first practice (bait and switch) is fairly common practice as it enhances income although is annoying. Not wearing mask at this time represents a lack of respect for customers, particularly to those who come masked, and a public health danger to boot. I've recently started brewing my own beer. American brewmaster, besides being the only place in town you can go to get brewing supplies, and been an amazing resource with this endeavor. Brewmaster sells absolutely everything you would need to make your own beer or wine from scratch. Malt, Barley, a million kinds of yeast, thermometers, brewing buckets...everything. They also have tons of books available on the subject, and a staff full of people to answer your questions when you run into problems-and you will run into problems. My first batch I managed to kill my yeast (since my beer was too hot when I put it in) I was able to explain to them what was going on and the diagnosed the problem-and came up with a solution for me. I bought my starter kit from the guys at American Brewmaster. They were pretty helpful and pointed me in the right direction without being snobbish. Not only does American Brewmaster stock your home Beer brewing equipment, they also stock wine making and cheese making ingredients, equipment and kits. The guys there are all about propagating the home brewer and I think they realize that they're business is only sustained by the increase in the amount of people brewing their own. Many other businesses fail at this, and therefore don't last. In discussing my starter kit, I had a good idea of the things I wanted, and I didn't want to just buy the entire kit which was my main concern. There were certain things that I did want, and things I know I had no interest in. So while they put the kit together I opted into and out of quite a few things and they were more than accommodating, increasing and decreasing the price of the kit as they went. Their pre-made extract beer kits (extract, yeast, priming sugar, steeping malts, steeping sock, bottle caps and beer brite included) are actually quite good, and are a great way for a beginner to get started making decent, almost "clone" like beers. They have all the necessities and then some. Grain, malt extracts, hops, yeast (smack packs, dry), water additives, cleaners, sanitizers all the way through to the bottling selections. I hate to admit that I mail order the majority of my ingredients and only use them for things when I'm in a pinch, don't need a large amount or am buying bottles. However, they've priced themselves out of certain items that I can get from elsewhere cheaper and that includes the delivery price baked into it. No complaints about American Brewmaster. Came here to get a homebrewing starter kit and the guys helped me put together what I needed and made sure I was all set to start brewing beer at home. They sell beer ingredients kits too, which is a box full of everything you need to make beer at home. There's a huge selection too of pretty much any kind of beer you'd want to make, and I've been really pleased with them so far. The amber ale kit was especially delicious. I'm finally looking to move away from ingredient kits and I know I will be coming here to get the advice and stuff I need to do it. P.S. I'm usually the bystander when it comes to the brew shops as my husband is really the home-brewer. The few times we were in here, while my husband was kind of new to the home brewing scene, they were fairly helpful and he had decent experiences. But this review is about MY experience as a customer. My husband was in the middle of brewing one day and realized he needed a second vial of yeast. I headed over toward American Brewmaster b/c it's the closest brew shop to us and it was approaching closing time on a Sunday. I walked in and basically stood around waiting for someone to help me. When nobody approached me, I went over to the cooler but could only find a couple of pathetic vials of White Labs yeast (which is what I needed). Finally someone asked me if I needed help. I showed him the empty vial I had and asked if they had anymore. He told me no but he could recommend a similar strain in another brand that they did carry. I explained that we already started with the White Labs and didn't want to mix yeast. He basically said we could but I just thanked him for his help and left (and headed to the competitor that had PLENTY of White Labs yeast in their inventory). I was really unimpressed with the selection and availability of yeast at American Brewmaster and definitely not thrilled that not one employee immediately approached me when I walked in since I was clearly looking for help (and the store is tiny...it's not like I was hiding). I generally don't make the drive to American Brewmaster since I'm closer to the supply store in Durham, but I must say whenever I do make the trip, it's always worth it. I've always found exactly what I'm looking for or something close to it in stock, which is no mean feat when I'm brewing something obscure that requires something they sell two of per month. The staff are also both knowledgeable and courteous. I've seen the same guy go from discussing a complicated kegging setup with me to explaining to a newbie how to brew their first batch with no discernible change in enthusiasm. Given we've only got two supply stores in this area, I'm very glad both are as good as they are. I'd have no hesitation recommending American Brewmaster to anyone, novice or expert. read more

I have relied on them for several last minute supplies when brewing a new batch of beer. If you are a home brew novice, you can purchase a homebrewing starter kit at a reasonable price. American Brewmaster also offers a variety of options for beer ingredient kits that are cheaper than buying the ingredients separately. With that being said, if you are creating your own beer recipe, there is a good chance they have everything you need to bring your creation to life; however, buying ingredients individually at American Brewmaster can be more expensive than purchasing them elsewhere. read more

They have a GREAT selection of beer kits made right there in the store, Ii VERY highly recommend their English Mild kit and the Black IPA/Cascadian Dark kit. My only complaint is that in my interactions with the manager over the past few and frequent times I've visited, he has been snobbish and condescending. When I was ready to purchase a bottling bucket he tried to push me into buying an additional bucket and a glass carboy (which soon after they had complained a recent delivery was damaged). Although I had been there before, he made me feel like I was being intimidated in a car dealership. Luckily, Jeff was around and he managed to save me from buying $50 in unnecessary containers. He was very helpful and even gave me advice over the phone when I added too much hops and was worried I'd kill my yeast. Supply and variety of equipment is great. I found American Brewmasters while searching for a 20lb CO2 canister for my home soda machine (retrofitted SodaStream, seriously, its easy to do.) Everyone here was so incredibly helpful when I knew next to nothing about CO2 canisters. They answered all of my questions quickly via their website, and in their store. We love our new tank! More recently when we realized our movers would not move our CO2 tank cross country, AB really bailed us out and agreed to pack and ship our tank. I was just starting out and ignorant to a lot of the home brewing methods and processes and they always had great suggestions. The place isn't big but has a surprisingly large array of both ingredients and equipment--everything really, that you'd need to get started or get re-started, even rivals places like Atlantic brew supply in that regard. I have just begun to make my own wine. Everything that people have said thus far about brewing beer, I can repeat for the wine maker. These guys are extremely friendly and helpful. I enjoyed walking around to see what all they had, which is quite a lot, but all I really had to do was tell one of the guys what I was looking for and he had it all for me within minutes. While this store has a decent selection of ingredients and equipment, their prices tend to be higher than most other homebrew stores I've come across; not by a lot, but enough to make a difference if you have a larger shopping list. My main disappointment with this store is the bad advice I've heard them giving beginning homebrewers. While there are a couple guys that seem to know their stuff the majority of the staff seems to lack the proper knowledge to successfully guide folks. I've also heard a customer state why he was doing a certain process during brewing and the store clerk said that was a "stupid idea, you'll make bad beer that way". Not a way to treat your customers. I think a training on customer service might do them some good. read more
