Gotta say, VERY PLEASED with the service I received today. A/C went out Sunday night, called at 8 on Monday, service tech, Juan was here at 11:10!!! WHAT?!!! Monday morning, busiest time after a weekend for service calls ESPECIALLY for a home a/c going out DURING the summer when the temps are supposed to reach 106°! Was going to try and change the Capacitor myself, but recently received both a Liver & Kidney Transplant and just did not feel up to doing it myself. Lowe's and Home Depot did not have the part available, so did my due diligence and found Harlan Home Services. From Marisa to Juan, and the office team that responded, very happy with the service, quality, and response. Juan, excellent Service Professional, explained everything, did a full service from cleaning the filter on the unit, checked refrigerant level, to getting into the attic...very happy with him!! Did not try to upsell, but made recommendations, big difference. For me, being in Sales Mgmt. for 30+ years, I know "pressure" vs. making "recommendations". Harlan Home Services will be my first call from now on. I may even look into their roofing part of the family business. One recommendation I could make coming from being a Sales Manager for a large corporation, part of training service personnel, was to have our team park their Service Vehicle in front of the home, just for customer's security, maybe time to get logos on the truck. We hired Harlan Quality Roofing, Inc for a roof replacement that included chimney saddle and step flashing work. Shortly after completion, we experienced a significant leak near the chimney during a controlled water test. We repeatedly asked for photo/video documentation of the original water testing and requested a controlled retest after additional sealant was applied to the flashing and chimney areas. This was never provided. Because sealant was added after the initial test, it became impossible to determine how the flashing system performed in its original installed condition. Despite our requests for a documented and isolated testing process, the issue was attributed solely to stucco and chase cap conditions without verification of the flashing work included in our contract. Communication became increasingly dismissive when we asked reasonable, technical questions about how the leak source was isolated and verified, and the matter was pushed toward final inspection without the testing we requested. We also had concerns about billing transparency during dry rot repairs. We had to repeatedly request documentation showing where repairs were made, how many hours were spent on new work versus items already included in the original contract, and how labor time was calculated (including delivery and travel time billed at the same rate as on-site repair work). The initial invoices and explanations were vague, and only after multiple follow-ups did we receive partial clarification and a small credit for duplicated labor hours. While the company was responsive in replying to emails, we were left to identify gaps in documentation, testing, and billing ourselves rather than being provided clear, proactive transparency. Based on our experience, we strongly recommend that future customers insist on detailed documentation, clear labor breakdowns, and controlled verification testing when leak diagnosis or change-order billing is involved. read more

I had a good experience with Harlan Quality home services for repair of my air conditioner. Since the problem occurred in my attic, they showed me pictures to describe the problem. They answered all my questions. They came one day to do the diagnostics and were able to come the next day to fix because the part they needed was in stock. I felt they did a very thorough job with testing before and after the fix. It's been a couple weeks and my air conditioning is working! The only downside, the cost. Did some chimney flashing for us, the flashing is fine. The siding they replaced was an issue. After back and forth the company did offer to pay for the siding repairs. I am sure their roof work is good, but I would not have them do any siding repairs. read more

My roof was very old (nearly 30 years) and the tiles were in terrible shape, with a lot of wood rot underneath. The estimator/sales representative who came out was very friendly and professional. However, it took nearly two months--and multiple follow-ups on my part--to finally receive their pricing information. When the quote arrived, I was shocked by the cost. Each type of shingle they offered was priced $4,000 to $5,000 higher than quotes I received from other companies. While other roofing companies provided estimates in the $15,000 to $20,000 range, Harlan's quotes came in at $24,000 to $25,000. Being new to having roofing work done, I contacted several different companies for bids and Harlan is the one I chose. After dealing with them and seeing the work they did, I'm sure I made the right decision----of course the real test will be when the winter rains start but I'm confident their work will stand up. Harlan wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive but I feel they were the best. Other companies seemed inexperienced, were very rude, tried to "upsell", talked down to me, did not offer options--just what they thought I should have, showed up at our house with no warning or appointment, damaged our roof further when inspecting it, etc. Harlan was not only very professional but also friendly, helpful and responsive (and they have a sense of humor which I appreciate). EVERYONE I dealt with there (tech, sales person, office staff, project manager, foreman, etc) was very friendly and nice. They patiently answered all my questions (and I had a lot), explained everything thoroughly and let me know my options without pressuring me to choose anything in particular. They took care to make sure no damage was done to our property. They showed up on time and got to work with the least amount of noise and disruption. This company was very responsive and got me information I needed within a reasonable time. The pricing, compared to four other companies, was obviously the best and fairest; which is why I went with them. Getting my project on their books was easy and I even got an earlier slot after another slot opened up. I utilized their cleaning and repair services for a 24 year old roof which had not been maintained or serviced before. The main assignment was cleaning. Some tiles had to be replaced to ensure a more effective cleaning. Unseen damage was discovered and swiftly remedied, within a reasonable price. The first day required two people to do the work. It was a large structure so it took one of them to come back the next day to finish everything up. All workers associated with this project from start to finish showed up on time and the office staff was quick to respond to any inquiries. The workers displayed experienced knowledge and were all very friendly and professional. All in all, the finished product left my roof looking fresh and like new (with pictures showing the results and progress). We have a heavy duty shake roof, one of the few remaining in Gold River. It should last at least 20 years and we have about 15 years on it currently. Due to turkeys using our roof to access their "sleeping quarters" in a nearby tree, we had damage to the roof, especially on the ridge line. This company is amazing with its honesty, quality work, friendliness and professionalism. This is the way a business should be run. I received quotes from two other companies - one quoted an expensive repair that turned out to be unnecessary, and the other company quoted an insanely ridiculous amount and then essentially stalked me to sign the agreement. It blew my mind how quotes can vary by thousands of dollars for essentially the same work. Harlan quoted me a very reasonable price for what needed to be done now to fix the issue. They offered a second quote for some maintenance work and cleaning that they said could be done in the future and is not a pressing concern. The other companies didn't even bother to send separate quotes, quoting expensive repairs that weren't even necessary at the time, and just didn't provide the overall friendly service that Harlan provided. I accepted Harlan Roofing and they came out and fixed the roof in a timely manner. A week later the roof guy, Cody, who is both very amiable and professional, mentioned he wanted to replace some broken tiles at no extra cost to me. This is a company that really cares about their customers. Lastly, I mailed a check to Harlan to cover the repair and my check was stolen somehow in the mail and was forged for a larger amount of money. The check cleared the bank. I had to go through the trouble of closing my account, dealing with loss prevention, and opening a new account while waiting for my money to be transferred. I mentioned this to Harlan and they said they understand and to not worry and take my time and even offered to come pick the check up from my house when I finally get my new checks in the mail! It was very nice of them to offer that to me although I did not want them to go through the trouble since they weren't at fault with what happened. They were pleasant on the phone from the start, and provided free roof repair estimates. Cody came to inspect the roof, and he did a thorough job, showed me photos, sent the estimate the next day along with photos for reference. Paying for roof items is like buying new tires. It's never fun, an added expense, but definitely necessary. The estimate they sent was reasonable for the items needed, and I will be paying for it at the close of escrow. He explained the quote and the differences between some of the products and I didn't feel pressured to make an immediate decision. I'm thankful my HOA picked Harlan Quality Roofing to redo our aging roofs. I had mine done in September. Due to my schedule, the City inspector came today 10/25 to sign-off on the permit. I don't know if all roofing companies do this, but I was relieved that Harlan QR took care of other problems too. They fixed the dry rot on my roof. And there was a lot of it on my 40 year old condo. I don't know when it was last done. Then they added new gutters and downspouts that I desperately needed. Rain was gushing over the main gutter I had. Last but not least I got gutter screens on the two new gutters closest to my fir tree that sheds pine needles like crazy. I was glad to get all these jobs done by the same company. I didn't have to find other companies to do the work. Time is valuable to me. I feel I got great value for my money. Harlan did an excellent job making repairs to the roof on the house I just bought. The prior owner had made serious DIY mistakes with flashing and other issues. One issue was that the very first row of tar paper on a roof should be doubled up, but my roof only had one layer.
