Absolutely worst customer service I've ever seen in my life. When you go to the La Jolla location, there is ALWAYS someone to help. I live in Escondido and due to Jess and Taylor I've been driving 30 minutes to go to UTC American Eagle. When I go to check out I am ignored for at least 5 minutes while they are on their phone. I just had a very unpleasant experience tonight and from reading other reviews, I wouldn't be surprised if the manager was working! I can't believe there have been so many negative reviews about her and she is still working here. It was about 8:30pm and there were two associates at the cash wrap talking. One of them looked like she could be the manager but I'm not sure if it was her. I walked in with my toddler and immediately got death looks from them as if I came a minute before they were closing and my son was going to run around destroying the place! I did not get a friendly greeting and I definitely didn't get a smile. I changed my mind about looking around since they obviously weren't pleased I was there. I walked out and one of them yelled "Have a goodnight! Thanks for walking in!" and I could just sense her sarcasm. I looked back and the woman that could have been the manager came to the front to check the clothes in case my son had messed up the folded clothes. I've never felt so judged! I went to this store and saw a lot of cute items I would have liked to get, but the manager was very suspicious of me and my sister even though we were doing nothing other than looking around the store. We grabbed clothes we liked and went to the dressing room and she went over there too and stopped us from entering. She then demanded we leave our very small purses outside which doesn't even make sense because a lady behind us brought a huge backpack inside one of the rooms. After we agreed to obey what she asked us to do, she kicked us out because we "rolled our eyes" at her directions. On the way out she was talking my ear off and accusing me of spilling coffee all over the floor, ruining products from the store, and stealing. Never going back to that damn store ever again. hello all, i had a horrible experience at this AE i normally don't shop at this location but now I'm glad i don't especially if they have managers like the one that helped me running the store. what happened to customer service? this gal was frustrated because another customer had asked a question about her purchased, I'm waiting in line as all this plays out, she the (manager) doesn't care to listen to the customer keeps cutting her off saying my staff knows what they are doing. doesn't even acknowledge that I'm in line waiting, its been like 3 minutes, I'm not in a rush but your a manager, in a way your job is to be everywhere have all eyes on the store. she tells me finally" someone will be with you soon". then she calls someone, they don't come ever, the customer she was helping leaves because nothing was resolved. she rings me up and says "i can help you here", not even a I'm sorry, how are you?. she rings me up all upset I say can i give you a my phone number for rewards and she says " I THOUGHT YOU WERE IN A HURRY?' i was very upset, I waited, I was patient. The manager at this location makes you feel very uncomfortable when you make a return. I felt like I was being interrogated. She questioned why I purchased in Carlsbad and was returning in Escondido (her location). She totally made me feel like I was up to something shady so this in turn made me feel awkward and extremely offended!!! I had the misfortune of crossing paths with the manager of this establishment. I had a really bad sprained ankle this week so I was walking around with a limp. This was noticed by the staff as they looked at me as if I was going to harm their store in some way or fashion. Regardless, when I went in with my girlfriend, I found a sweater that appealed to me and went to try it on in front of the big mirror they have in the men section. I got about half way of pulling the sweater over me when the manager literally yelled at me from across the room (with an attitude) to go to the fitting room to try it on. What's the point of the giant mirror you have on the sales floor? With everyone watching me, I had to shamefully pull the sweater off of me and put it back on the shelf because I was NOT going to limp all the way to the fitting room to throw on a sweater. Horrible customer service! Just walked in tonight at North County Mall AEO to return a pair of jeans I ordered online and was told I couldn't because tags were not attached. No where on their receipts does it say tags have to be attached, nor even present. Their receipts clearly state if you're unhappy with their product, you may return for a full refund. That's it! Nothing about tags nor any timeline. I used to work for American Eagle and back then, we could accept anything back, in any condition, as long as they had their receipt. Times have changed and so have employees attitudes towards their patrons. The after Christmas sale was bananas! I got a lot of great deals because everything was 50% off! Shorts for $15 a shirt for $5, WIN! This particular store in North County Fair was super tiny compared to other AE stores and it was super messy. I am sure the sale caused a frenzy, but the store looked like it was going out of business. I encountered several staff while in the store, most of which were pretty rude, and looked like a mess. I am sorry it's so busy but I am just asking you to open up the dressing room for me, as are these other 5 people waiting in line. Horrible customer service!! Tried to return a pair of jeans that I purchased last month. Tags were not attached but I brought them along with the receipt. They told me it was their policy not to return them without tags attached, I said I had done it before with no problems. The response I got "well sometimes we do it as a one time courtesy, I'm sure they told you that when they returned them." I told them this "policy" was not stated anywhere on the receipt or website. They responded with "well sorry, we can't do anything." Called their corporate number and they were happy to help me with the freaking return! They sent me a packing label and everything! I called this store and asked to get the managers name so I could tell their corporate office and right when I said that she said "oh um I'd be happy to return the jeans for you if you come back in." I never really leave bad reviews, especially at retail stores as I am a retail worker myself. However, I had a pretty horrible experience today at this American Eagle. I walked in today, fully prepared to buy a pair of jeans. I see 3 workers, and no one says hi or welcomes us in. I can get over that, it's not a big deal. However, we were the only customers in there, and it was pretty obvious that we were blatantly being ignored. We stayed in there for a couple minutes, until I noticed who I assume to be a manager glaring at us, as if we were bothering her. My friend lifted her mask down for one second to take a drink of water, and finally the worker looked at us, and rudely told her to "pull her mask all the way over her nose." I understand that wearing masks is so important, but she was taking a sip of water, and was more than 6 feet away from all the workers while doing it. That's it...I mean, come on. She continued to glare at us until I felt so uncomfortable, I decided to leave. No one said bye, and no one asked if we needed assistance. Customer service is so important in retail, and I have never had a worst customer service experience in my life. I love American Eagle's clothing, and hope that my next experience in the store is not as bad. read more

I understand how retail works and the mall does close at 9:00. However when my daughter was checking out, we were both very aware of the time and not in the store to just walk around and look. I second guessed my own behavior of being on my phone while in the dressing room and not giving them my name when i walked in the room - not my most polite action, but it certainly didn't warrant how I was treated by this store manager and I now see from these reviews that I am clearly not alone. She accused me of slamming the door in her face which was absolutely not the case. She was confrontational and attacking my character. I actually still bought the jeans and had to ask her during her rant at me "Can I please spend money in your store?" I was on my own time here and if I was on my phone thats my choice. First, she was upset because my boyfriend was trying on a button up in front of a mirror over his regular shirt and told us we had to go to the fitting room for that and then acted like she didn't know where the shirt belonged. My daughter and I really like the AE brand, however yesterday's shopping experience was not great. There was one helpful employee- unfortunately she didn't complete our transaction at the register. A lot of sizes were out and there were no signs posted promoting certain deals so when we found out at the register it was Bogo 1/2 off jeans we left our items and went back to find another pair. Spent over $200 only to get home and discover the (guy) who checked us out left a security tag on an item! Grrrrr now I have to return to the mall and deal with terrible parking and back to school crowds because of his mistake! Not cool AE. I went here today during Black Friday to check out the deals. The deals were pretty good, although AE tends to be pretty expensive to begin with. I had a great experience today even though the mall was pretty packed. Kim, the girl manning the fitting rooms, was great and even grabbed a few items she thought I'd like. I made a huge purchase here one day & received a 60% coupon but when I went in to use it, the manager was talking to me like I was crazy and there was no way I could have spent enough to get that coupon as she has never seen anyone have that big of a discount. The manager was extremely disrespectful and insensitive toward me when I tried to make a return. I had only worn a pair of brand new Khaki jeans once when they tore on me at work and the manager accused me of intentionally ripping the pants because they weren't torn at the seam, they split right down the middle. The manager (Marlene) said if you were jumping a fence the jeans would get caught on them and this would cause the jeans to rip the way that they did. When my mother tried pointing out that the other side of the jeans were ripping near the seam of the pockets she snapped at my mom and said "If we begin to nit-pick everything you will surely find something wrong. I am not speaking to you I am speaking to her" (she was signaling me when she said 'her'). This is completely unacceptable behavior to have toward a customer and so disrespectful. I am extremely disappointed with the service that I was given, I have been a loyal American Eagle customer for more than ten years and I have never been treated this way before at this store until this manager came in. Recently I went to American eagle with my 2 friends. We were shopping and my friend wanted to try something on. She needed my other friends help in the dressing room. I went out and I over hear the employee yelling at my friend saying. " there is only 1 person allowed in the dressing room at a time. You need to get out RIGHT now." My sensitive friend ran out of the store crying because the whole entire store heard it. The employee yelled so loud at her. I go to the front desk and told them how disappointed I was and that she did not deserve that. All she was doing was helping a friend. I told the lady that I was gonna write a bad review on Yelp.
