The server was very pleasant, however drinks, apps and entrees were delivered at a glacier pace. The food (while plenty expensive) was deficient in quality and preparation. We arrived at 5:30 pm so not sure how the bar and kitchen were so delayed. By far this is the worst meal I have experienced since arriving in Denver nearly 7 months ago. Loved this place - found them on an article about the best Winter patios. We reserved a small (cozy, warm) greenhouse. Saturday lunchtime. The inside was empty (but beautiful). I went to American Elm for my 30th birthday and my friends and I are in the greenhouse! The staff was really kind, courteous and attentive. We were allowed to bring our own cake, and since my friend is gluten intolerant, (annoying, I know) the server checked if they were still selling a certain GF dessert, and she brought it for us! My only complaint (and it really isn't) is that the breakfast sandwich, while tasty, woulda been better with bacon. The pork belly was flavorless. After hearing such great things about their covid procedures, cocktails, and food from numerous friends we figured we'd make it our first date night in almost a year. We were a bit surprised by the hostess attitude when we called to ask some questions early in the day. This should have been our first warning sign. Upon arrival we were told the group before us wasn't leaving and had been told their time was up. 20 minutes later we were finally sat. I didn't expect much, but maybe an apology and a nice attitude. Instead we were met with a condescending tone, being talked down to like it was our fault, and just a general bad attitude from the hostess. She even was kind enough to make some mocking gestures towards my wife, and glare at me, as we both went to the bathroom at separate times. Our waitress saved the night as she was an absolute delight, along with the bartender. The food was standard new American with great presentation and overall delicious, albeit a tad pricey. The cocktails really stood out and are the highlight. This property is on top of a sewage line so expect a pungent smell now and then. What a great experience! American elm's staff was top notch! We had a patio reservation and they called and confirmed an inside table for us when it was raining. They had great happy hour apps and made me a special non alcoholic cocktails. They split up all our bills and timed things perfectly with out being pushy about the 2 hour table time limit. The food was outstanding from the burrata balls to the shrimp cocktail (you only get one but it's the best one) to the scallops dish, perfectly cooked Brussels and melt in your mouth strawberry chess cake not pictured because it was too good to pause from digging in. American Elm is one of those places that my wife and I must have driven by tens of times, every time saying "we should try that place". Well, we finally got around to trying it this past weekend with some friends and we are very sorry we didn't get around to trying them much sooner. Better late than never as they say. The food is definitely something special. We started off the evening with some crispy pork belly and the artichoke dip. The dip was much cheesier than we expected but the creaminess and flavor was top notch. Served with some carrot & celery sticks, crostini, and cucumber slices, it was the right mix of fresh veg and savory. The crispy pork belly was delightful - the jalapeno crema and grilled peaches, playing nicely with one another. For my entree I had the carbonara. The River Bear guanciale making all the difference for the rich meatiness this dish calls for. My wife had the Creamy Casarecce and let me steal a bite....so divine. Our friends got the Cacio e Pepe and the Steak Frites, and while I didn't try it, both plates looked lovely and smelled delicious. The cocktails are a little hit and miss depending on what you select. I started out with a Highland Heat and absolutely enjoyed the spiciness yet refreshing nature of the cocktail, on my second round I had the Holy Diver and it reminded me of icy, citrusy, egg nog - I probably should have read the description better. My wife's after dinner espresso martini with rum was fantastic as was the buttermilk pie. Service was good even with a handful of servers seeing to our table's needs. The overall consensus is, we will definitely be back - sooner rather than later. read more

Service was fine I only liked our waitress she was sweet. Hostess's were acting a little weird maybe something had just happened for everyone and they were all having an off night. My friend got the special a short rib Ragu and pasta wasn't cooked all the way so it was doughy. Our mussels we really good but they came out cold so we asked to get heated up again and they gave it with an extra portion of fries and more mussels which is very kind. The crispy pork belly was super yummy it had watermelon radish and Fresno chilis and pears! My spicy cavatelli was fine the past just needed to cook a little more but it wasn't raw like the ragu. My partner got the steak frites and it was tasty. They did take off the ragu and our drinks from the menu which was nice. They let us know that there is a two hour time limit due to covid which is completely understandable and so appreciated- however after a little more than an hour they told us we only had 8 minutes before they needed our table which felt confusing and disappointing. We had a nice brunch here at American Elm's nice patio! Booked our reservation on Resy to avoid a wait and we were seated right away at our greenhouse on the patio. The greenhouse was actually quite hot in the sun - if I came back I would avoid the greenhouse on a warm day! The portions were large and the breakfast sandwich and tots was delicious. Another 40 mins for anyone to take my empty plate, when I tried to hand it to the waiter he said he would get it later. Rum is not my jam, but I had a taste and could appreciate it. The Spanish octopus starter was legit. Very tender and balanced nicely. I had the bucatini carbonara and it was slamming! Some of the beat pasta I've had in a long time and will be back to try others. My wife had the pork chop, which was thick cut, perfectly cooked and came with really tasty jalapeño mashed potatoes. For starters...this place delivers! Go to THEIR website or to the TOAST app. I saw a post on Nextdoor about this place having a great French Dip. I take my Dips serious and this one did not disappoint. I would even go so far as to say it's a "craveable" dish. The fries were delicious too. I appreciate that they don't smother it in cheese and the bread is toasted and fresh. It also did NOT feel bread heavy. It was just right. My partner got the salmon and loved it. He kept saying "this is so good". We shared the delicate squash salad with sides of both the almond Vin and the creamy yogurt dressing. Wow. Both dressings are amazing!!!! I want the recipes!! We can't wait for this restaurant to open its doors after the Covid-19 shut down as we are looking very forward to becoming regulars. read more

Went here for a birthday dinner. The portions are large, but delicious! The waitress brought out a free crème brûlée for me and it was by far the BEST crème brûlée I've ever had. The ambiance is beautiful too. We sat in one of the green houses, and it was so cozy! Highly recommend eating here. read more

Yikes!! Can you say " uppity"? Haha I'm all about ambiance but did find that this place posed a little higher class than necessary. I liked the cutesy lit patio, the location and the vibes but the food we had didn't account for the cost, in my opinion. Furthermore, they charge a mandatory "living wage" fee on your bill which is essentially built-in tip. I am an accurate and mindful tipper and much like any profession, serving is a choice. I don't feel it okay to require people to pay tip involuntarily... Although, I may be in the minority as the snooty man/stranger next to me thought it totally appropriate to suggest it wasn't " something to complain about" and was absolutely necessary for me to help others make a living. Everyone has to make a living -- if you don't feel your pay is commensurate with experience or performance, just like everyone else, you'll need to search for a new job. IDK had a really sour experience here the first go round and due to the high prices and required tip, I won't go back. read more

Plenty of front house staff, and it was maybe 1/3 full. But it took forever to get food.... 2. Although cooked as requested, food was really salty, and Brussels sprouts were more than charred. 3. For what it is, it tries too hard and is over priced. Drop the pretense, get food out fast. While we're at it, let's address the "living wage" added. Other reviewers likened it to a tip, which it isn't. Unless you're the jerk who tips 1.5%! It's an attempt to balance the back of the house.
