This was a big one for us!! We came to Major Tom to celebrate our recent engagement and my birthday, and it could not have been a better choice. We got all dressed up, made a night out of it, and felt like royalty from the moment we sat down. We chose to sit at the bar, and I think that's the best way to experience this place. Watching the chefs cook and plate every dish right in front of you is so fun to see. The kitchen runs like a well-oiled machine, and everyone works with so much care and respect for what they're doing. Our server was amazing. They knew the menu inside and out, gave great recommendations, and made us feel so welcome without ever being overbearing. One of my favorite parts was the postcard they give you with your bill. 4.5 stars. Phenomenal! I came here with my best friend, and we started with sitting outside on their patio while enjoying fries and oysters, then decided to migrate to a table inside. Understandable why it's ranked high on lists of Denver restaurants. I first heard of Major Tom when dining at their sister restaurant Beckon next door. We enjoyed the Smoked Mushroom Tartine, Smoked Duck Leg, and their Bread & Butter. Everything was delicious. They are also wine experts here. I'd love to come back again. Came for a light bite to try some of the offerings at Major tom. We loved the ambiance and service of course was very attentive. We sat by the window with some natural lighting and enjoyed the nooks created for smaller parties. The shared plates were overall delicious with a good variety flavor-wise (except the overnight cabbage) Mushroom-tartine: nice contrast of umami mushroom with the burrata on fantastic sourdough Chickpea fritter: creative and crispy Baked potato: actually quite filling, we loved the smoked trout roe on top. The crushed chicken skin left something to be desired texture-wise as it didn't really give much crunch The one dish that I didn't like and ironically was looking forward to the most was the overnight cabbage. For having been roasted overnight it was still quite tough and needed quite some knife work to cut into smaller pieces. There was also just a lot of acid and surprisingly oil in the dish that didn't get balanced by anything else. This place is tiny and loud, the menu is meager, and the food is just ok with maybe a plate or two that really shines. For us, our favorite dish was the salmon roe baked potato. Probably the best baked potato I ever ate. The rest of the food was very meh. Despite the close proximity in location (and ownership?) to Beckon, the food here is not Michelin quality, but the presentation is fantastic. The chickpea fritters were like blocks of something with no discernible flavor. The challah bread was horrible, not soft and chewy like it should be but incredibly crunchy and crumby as if it were in the oven far too long. Also the butter they served it with was very hard to cut, like a brick, and didn't really elevate anything. You've gotta have a better house bread than this. The scallop and muscles dish was good, not amazing but solid. The oysters were noticeably fresh and very good. We also came in on a special tiki night, so we didn't get to experience their full menu (I don't think) or their typical cocktails. We did order the sriracha wings off their special tiki menu and they were quite tasty, but they only gave us four of them (usually an order of wings is six) and given that they at least should have been a little more meaty. We also ordered their 'zombie' and 'hurricane' variations off their tiki cocktail menu. The hurricane was very good, it was a typical passion fruit-forward hurricane but with added huckleberry jam which was very unique. The 'zombie' variation, not so much - very generic with no discernible flavors and maybe even tasted overly-diluted. The staff were nice and helpful in terms of clearly guiding us around how much food to order. And they gave us a complementary chocolate mint thing on our way out which was nice. But while the baked potato and oysters were very good the food overall was at best hit-or-miss and the experience overall was underwhelming. Feels odd the best thing I ate here was a baked potato. GAH where do I even begin. I know there's a Michelin joint right next door, but I honestly can't imagine it topping our experience at MT. My hubs and I went for an anniversary/bday treat. Staff is effing amazing. MT is tiny, but as it's def in a converted house, it was in fact, homie. We started with oysters, which I love, but the french style with creme fraiche and caviar ruined my whole life. SO GOOD! We then got the duck leg and NY strip. All amazing of course. Ah and Andrew the Somm definitely gave the best bubbles and wine for our dishes. We then had dessert in their tent out back, with wood fired stove. Super cozy. I know we got the cookie ice cream sandwich, if not a second dessert also. The sammie was so great in it's perfect simplicity. This restaurant was a major disappointment for myself and my group who attended. There is nothing special about the ambiance and very tiny. Food choices were mediocre and flavor profile was ok but nothing to rave about or to be considered a 4-star restaurant in Denver. Our waiter was off putting to me, maybe he was having a bad night, idk. When I asked if they did anything special for birthdays he responded with "we provide you with a candle for dessert." I laugh and asked just the candle and he responded "yes just the candle". Funny but not funny when you are trying to have a wonderful evening celebrating at their establishment. I will say a gentleman (not our server) treated us to a special bday shot after our meal which was a nice gesture and well appreciated considering our tab all together was about $350. I ordered the duck which, I eat duck quite often at other establishments and this dish was not good. When the plate landed in front of me I could smell a pretty bad smell, when I took a bite it was chewy and very gamey. Server replaced my meal immediately which was nice and I had the beef tartar which was delicious. A manger did not touch our table to discuss, which was fine but usually is a service step that is appreciated when someone doesn't like their meal. Sadly I would never return unfortunately and I absolutely love dining out. Especially when you find a gem. They have a very cute patio however in the middle of winter we opted to sit inside. I was very impressed with the menu! It's a small menu but they have perfected it. No cocktails really excited me on the menu, so I told the waiter I liked sweet vodka drinks and the drinks that came were delicious!! Food wise, the oysters and duck confit were my absolute favorites. Our waiter let us know that around 3 - 5 items would be about right for two people. We did four items plus dessert, and it was the perfect amount. I highly recommend for a girls gossip night or dinner date. The service was amazing and everyone who worked there that we ran into was nice and professional. The only reason I took off half a star was because of the seating. This is not a place for crowds as it is very tight inside. The tables are extremely close together which means you will be bumping elbows with strangers. It set the mood right for the service and they never let down the positive vibes! Food: We got a ton of food! My favorites were the beet salad, the chickpea fritter, and the bread. The hamachi was good quality of fish but the flavors added were just okay in my opinion. The cabbage is their known dish and it was very flavorful but nothing I needed to get again. We also got the NY Strip which was 12oz for $115. We were torn because we thought the price was a bit steep but we got it anyway. It was not too crowded, some groups enjoying the night. They have indoor/outdoor seating. Seems like an easy place to hang. Server - our server (according my receipt is Allison) was great, service was quick, which I appreciated. Drinks- I decided to go with First Ascent which has passion fruit, ginger beer and almond. This is actually on there mocktail list. But I told them to add gin to it, to make it a cocktail. Sometimes mocktails can become great cocktails and vice versa. Very light and refreshing. While visiting Denver, I wanted to treat myself to a new restaurant experience and ended up at Major Tom, which I was especially excited about since it's the sister restaurant to the Michelin-starred Beckon. Naturally, expectations were high. I started with the oysters and the shrimp cocktail. At first glance, I noticed the shrimp looked stunning completely different to the one on Yelp: a tad bit overcooked, not as plump, and definitely underwhelming. That said, the cocktail sauce was actually really solid, balanced, and flavorful. As for the oysters, for $4 each, they were tiny. I know you're paying for quality and sourcing, but honestly, they didn't live up to the price tag. I ended up ordering the turnip because the guy sitting next to me was raving about it. When I finally tasted it, it was just okay. Not bad, but definitely not the standout he hyped it up to be. The one saving grace of the night was the scallop entrée. It was perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and genuinely delicious. It was the highlight of the meal. Overall, I left feeling disappointed. For a spot tied to a Michelin-star restaurant, I was hoping for a more cohesive experience. The courses felt disconnected, and the highs didn't make up for the lows. This place is awesome. Open kitchen. We sat at the bar and basically watched our own cooking show for 90 minutes. The staff ...extremely professional yet laid back..my kinda joint. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the 2 expensive Oysters (don't recall the names one had Caviar) twice!. Plus that smoked tomato vinegarette thing they have going on was brilliant. One piece of advice if they want it. The Waiter came over and told us the plates (servings) were large so that makes them shareable. This was not good. Our recent dinner at Major Tom was truly special on so many levels. The food--fantastic. The service--well executed, informed, prompt, and professional. The ambiance--intimate and lighthearted. Honestly, I've been down on the Denver food scene lately and this experience reminded me how a well executed meal can transcend all of those mediocre experiences. In the words of my 5-year-old daughter: mind blown! First, the food. And yes, we over ordered, but we wanted to try a few things and we figured we could take home any leftovers (which we did). We started with the Panisse, Beets, Mushroom Tartine, and the Savory Babka. All were excellent, but I think the standouts were the Tartine and the Babka, although the texture of the Panisse and flavor is special, so I'd consider that as well. For mains, we had the Cabbage and the Bass, both of which were phenomenal. I was really blow away with what they were able to accomplish with the cabbage. Deep miso flavor along with homemade gluten free croutons and silky yet firm cabbage, charred to perfection, makes for a flavor explosion with each bite. And the Bass was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and a flavorful sauce. We wrapped up with the cream puff, which was unsurprisingly delicious. Overall it was a terrific meal. The service was also excellent. We sat at the chef's counter which was a fun experience because we interacted with both the kitchen staff and our waiter. The courses were well timed, and the food was presented to us within moments of being prepared. When we got the bill, I felt that the price was more than fair given the overall experience. I absolutely love this place for many reasons. First, the steak was perfectly prepared (even after I brought it home as leftovers). Service is attentive and personable (Andrew is great), I like that it's tucked away, the ambiance is sleek but warmer than you'd expect, and in general, I dug the vibe. There's no pretention when there could be, I felt right at home (my first visit was solo, and they still gave me a comfortable booth), and I liked trying the more adventurous dishes like the Hakurei Turnip "side" that I would not have normally gone for (delicious and healthy - so Denver). The crowd is somewhat less see-and-be-seen than Major Tom's nextdoor counterpart, Beckon, and it's my go-to spot for friends coming into town looking to get a little dressier than the Colorado norm. If you didn't know that Beckon needs reservations often well in advance, and they send you here as plan B, don't think you're getting a lesser experience. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Beckon, but I like Major Tom's elegant, yet down-to-earth scene. Probably one of my top 10 of Denver. read more

A charming little restaurant in the heart of the action at RiNo serving up fun and interesting foods and drinks. Given that I can only rate 4 or 5, I give a 5 even though I want to give 4.5 stars. Minus half a phantom star for food execution, which I will explain throughout the food review. We made reservations for Saturday at 4:15pm. Earlier than I typically prefer for dinner, but happy hour is from 4-5! The ambiance was dark, hip, and modern art. Even the utensils were black and had a slight modern art look to it. We were warmly greeted when we entered and taken to our table. I especially loved the rustic cloth napkins. We ordered a couple cocktails and a few dishes to try. Thanks to happy hour, the cocktails were 50% off and the oysters were 1/3 off. The absinthe cocktail had a wonderful black licorice flavor. The sweetness from the vermouth and the herbal flavor from the creme de violette complemented the dominant absinthe licorice, but masked the aggressive and less pleasant aspects of pure absinthe. The porto cocktail was pretty sweet and simple, but very well balanced. A crowd pleaser for sure and a classy drink. The oysters were fantastic. Fresh, clean flavor. It came already composed with the right amount of champagne jelly and pickled shallot. I particularly enjoyed it with several drops of fresh squeezed lemon wedge, which seemed to bring forward salinity. The Morel and spring pea tartine was a 100% hit. Beautifully composed dish with fantastic mushroom flavors. This kind of dish would make me not miss meat. The shooting star (seafood tartine) was mostly awesome. Luxuriously topped with delicious caviar and perfectly cooked prawns. My one complaint was the halibut. Everything about it was perfect except for the dryness. Not sure how to fix that other than maybe pick a fish that is more oily? The pork chop was a bit of a disappointment. The quality of the meat was excellent, but most of the meat was overcooked (medium well) and a bit dry. The meaty bits right on the bone was perfection. Honestly, I don't know if I ever saw a bone-in pork chop cooked a perfect medium using just a pan and an oven, which is the technique that this kitchen used. The apple cider vinegar jus that pooled at the bottom of the dish was absolutely delicious. The salt crystals were awesome, but not plentiful enough for me. I would have loved to have 1 giant salt crystal with each bite. The popcorn eclair was almost a flop for us. The cream inside was amazing and delicious. The popcorn inside the cream was somehow kept crunchy, but was insanely salty. When eaten with the cream, it wasn't inedible salty. The pastry was nice and slightly crusty in a good way with nice flavor. Overall, we had a delightful experience. I recently celebrated a dear friend's birthday at Major Tom's. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Alison and Brianna in a way that made us feel as if we were among friends. We had no idea of the gastronomic treat that awaited us. We were seated at the chef's counter where we asked our chef, Josh and Andrew, our server/sommelier to choose our menu and drink pairings. We shared several courses which allowed us to taste a wide variety of mphenomenal menu items. The dressed & undressed oysters tasted like they were just plucked from the sea! We tried five of the ten or so dishes. If this was a weekly or daily menu that would be fine, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The beets were delicious. The babka was OK but didn't impress. The service is truly excellent - you really feel that the wait staff cares about you and the experience you have. The restaurant is a small, intimate space, with most tables close to the small bar and kitchen. The drinks were excellent, and I even enjoyed the bourbon drink my husband had. It was very drinkable and layered. Most of the foods were very tasty. The chickpea fritters were a standout. The fries, mushroom tartine, and overnight cabbage were also delicious, but just not as memorable. The one dish we didn't care for was the bar bites - just ok and not worth it. I would have rather had more chickpea fritters. The cream puff was also fun - easily shareable, and although tasty, like any other cream puff. Waters were never left empty and always asked if you wanted another round if your drink. Everything tasted fantastic and made perfectly in their tiny kitchen. Awesome location in Rino! We ordered the fries with lemon aioli, the simple salad, the cabbage, and the pork chop! The pork chop was definitely the highlight. Crispy skin and so tender. It was in brown butter too, so just really tasty. All of the other dishes were kind of one note and the salad was extremely salty. The cabbage was so soft and was crispy, which I liked a lot. First benefit of a large group is the company. Second benefit is the ability to try 95% of a menu. A block away from Federales and Finn's Manor seems like an odd location choice for fine dining but I enjoy the vibes and choice to steer away from not too stuffy. To START: the Oysters Josh, after the chef de cuisine, is the way to go. Oysters topped with crème fraîche and caviar. Cocktails were all reviewed highly. My husband and I traded the Tropical Chancer and Portuguese Rendezvous, our waiters recommendations, and enjoyed how smooth (and fast) they went down. The JOURNEY: having everything but the antelope tartare, stand outs are the babka and panisse (polenta fries). Chicory salad was under whelming and subpar to the crunchy green salad, so stick with the latter. DISCOVER: the duck was a fairly small portion, only one small-ish leg. Tasty but small. There was a 16oz wagyu special for $90 that was the highlight of this section for me. The people at the table who had the bass raved about it. LANDING: cannot go wrong with dessert. Though the ice cream sandwich would be my vote if you only get one. The space is quite small, with tables lining around the open kitchen. The service was impeccable. The staff was great, food was delicious. We sat outside on patio and it had a nice vibe to it. We order the oysters for apps, miso cabbage was delicious, along with the pork dish. I would definitely one back to this restaurant. read more

Drinks: we had a bottle of champagne for our group. Idk which it was, but it was crisp, bright and nicely complemented the rich food we had. The plates here are meant to be shared family-style (exceptional ones that changed our perception of the dish are starred below): the salmon was deliciously fatty and tasted like salmon should taste. The portion size was large enough it could probably feed one person. Beets were slightly sweet, rich soft cheese (probably a goat cheese). They tasted as beets should taste. *Savory babka: eating this reminded me of eating a well baked, fresh croissant in loaf form with a tantalizing flavor of rosemary and generous serving of butter. Great for sharing with the group. *Panisse: these chickpea fritters are perfection. You would hardly know they're made with chickpea, it's so creamy and smooth and perfectly crispy on the outside. You get 4 fritters, so you may need to order more than one plate. *Venison tartare: it comes with a generous serving of what tasted like fried root vegetable chips (possibly taro or some sort of potato), typical size for the tartare itself. No gamey flavor whatsoever! It was so good our group ordered another plate. *Miso Cabbage: I was skeptical about paying $26 for cabbage, but this is well worth it! Like a well-roasted artichoke, the cabbage is charred and crispy on the outside and soft and so delicious on the inside. This dish really elevated and changed our idea of what cabbage could be. It was about half a cabbage or so, a portion large enough we didn't need to order more of it. Dessert: cream puffs that made me feel like I was eating in the French countryside, the cream was so fresh and the pastry so well baked. Overall: Exceptional service and food. Small but wonderful ambience for a night out. The only downside is that this restaurant is located in the RiNo, which makes finding parking difficult. Cannot say better things about this restaurant. Truthfully one of the best meals I've had (including the other 5 people at my table) in Denver and in general in a long time! Each dish was flavorful and one-of-a-kind, there's not one dish we weren't impressed with. The staff and kitchen team were unbelievably hospitable and made us feel welcome, special, and like family. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy. A hidden gem with unbelievable talent! 10/10 read more

I'm a huge Bowie fan so I had high hopes for this spot. Unfortunately it didn't live up to the hype. We were sat at the bar and it was HOT like we were dying. In addition to this the kitchen smell was super strong and really brought me back to my restaurant days with the dish water smell. The wine prices were sky high which was also disappointing. The positives were that the servers were very nice and accommodating! Overall, I give this place 3 stars. Didn't have the best experience but there's room for improvement! read more

Unfortunately it didn't quite hit the mark for me. Love beckon and Call so had high expectations. The chicken salad tartine was just okay and should be amazing for $22. Pork meatballs were tasty but felt on the small side. Overall things were just okay and definitely pricey for what it is. Sadly nothing made me want to run back. Space is cool and would go for a glass of wine but even the wines were $16 a glass and bottles of champagne were $$. Definitely a bit of a niche place. read more
