I lived in Texas for years, so I'd like to think I've had plenty of practice judging great BBQ. Post Oak BBQ is some of the best I've ever had. The staff was just as impressive as the food--friendly, welcoming, and passionate about what they serve. Every meat we tried was somehow even better than the last. I was told I didn't even get to their two best items--the wings and the pork belly--which just gives me another reason to come back. The biggest surprise? The turkey. I never thought I'd say it, but it may have been my favorite. That said, I'd gladly come back for every single meat on the menu. If you're there, tell Dokato at the bar I said hello. Stopped in for lunch on Fathers Day. Even though we showed up 45 mins after opening, the line was out the door and moving slow. Guessing we stood in line for another 30 mins before we got to the counter. By the time that happened, they were already out of the hot links and the banana pudding. Soon after ordering, they ran out of the jalapeño and cheese sausage. Glad we got ours before they did. We ordered, got our table, and our food came out a little while later in waves. My daughter and I quickly realized we didn't each need our own sausage link. Getting one for the two of us would've been plenty. The sausage was fantastic. Lean brisket was a little fattier than I like but was still good. Ribs were a little dry on this day, but fine, I guess. My other daughter tried the turkey but didn't care for it. She said she'd get sausage next time too. I liked her turkey. My wife gets the brisket sandwich. She liked it but commented there could've been more meat. Brussel sprouts, Mac and cheese, and fries are all delicious. The gooey butter cake is a good way to end the meal. Food here isn't cheap. $175 for the four of us is a lot for lunch. Came back after a year, and it was still just as good as the first time. I really love the Mac and the brussel sprouts are delicious. It wasn't as crowded as the first time we came so it was a nice atmosphere. I had a free pulled pork sandwich which was HUGE. We also got two spare ribs, 1/2 pound brisket and Parmesan fries. The spare ribs and the pork sandwich were the highlights both were juicy and just great flavor. The let downs for me were the fries they were like soggy and just not a consistent fry on them. The Dino beef rib was cooked to perfection--tender, flavorful, and worth every bite. The pork ribs were meaty and had great texture, and the collard greens had just the right amount of vinegar to balance everything out. This is the best BBQ I've found in town so far. Post Oak has gone from the go to Denver BBQ to just another "meh" Texas style spot. The brisket, which was the centerpiece, has been lackluster over the last year or two. When Post Oak first opened, the brisket was maybe not quite on par with what Austin or Central Texas offers, but close. An easy 5 star for Denver. For example, over the last few years, they can't produce brisket with "char" or "bark". Sure, the cashier nods their head when "char" is requested but somehow this very specific request is not reflected in the actual brisket which is neither most nor dry but less satisfying than it was during their first few years. Then their sides, like the cowboy beans, are ok but a bit colder than usual even though the place was only open for 30 minutes. So don't expect Austin quality here. For that, call J Meuller. In summary quality has deterioriated slowly even though it still retains a honky tonk ambiance. This could easily be a 5 or 4 star bbq experience, but not until they figure out how Central Texas Brisket should taste. Maybe 3 stars is a bit harsh, so 3.75 could also be a fair rating, but after the 5th time ordering brisket with bark/char and not receiving it, 3 is generous. read more

We stopped by on our last day in the Denver area. I needed some MEAT! Our party of five received special attention from the owners who suggested we order a family-style platter of a selection of their meats. We opted for this with pulled pork, beef brisket, smoked turkey and spicy jalapeño sausage complimented with sides of corn bread muffins, cowboy beans and collard greens. I've had Texas BBQ in San Marcos during a recent visit and this compared favorably to Salt Lick BBQ. The brisket was lean and very tender, the pork was on par with any other pulled pork I have had back east. However, to me, the star of the show was the smoked turkey. The two slabs I ate were easily the best I have had to date. Juicy, tender and smoked to perfection. The sides got mixed reviews. Some weren't wild about the collards and, given I don't like them, I can't comment. However, the cowboy beans were a perfect side for all this meat. It had great taste and just the right amount of heat. The corn bread muffins were great with their honey butter. Man, they give you a lot of butter! We left our hunger behind and still had several take-out containers for a snack on the road. I liked this place a lot and it is now one of my favorite places to eat when in Denver. read more

Top to bottom an amazing BBQ restaurant, the only thing I didn't like was the beans. Starting with the service it was AMAZING! We opted to sit at the bar and our very busy bartender could not have been a better hostess. Making suggestions, answering questions, and even ensuring that I got a military discount I would not have thought to ask for at the end of my meal. (I didn't realize I was wearing my Army shirt) The food was outstanding not too much smoke (but still a Smokey flavor) tender and juicy meat, and 3 different sauces on the side to pair with. The Beans were not my favorite but that was a matter of preference in liking very BBQ forward beans. They were still cooked well. The Mac & Cheese was creamy with just the right amount of flavor and the mashed potatoes with country gravy were delicious. My favorite was the Jalapeño cheese sausage which was unbelievably delicious. The cost to food ratio was fair, and while BBQ is a bit more expensive it was very much worth it. read more

This place was off the hook! A 4.5 if I could adjust the rating. Colorado dwelling from Texas originally, we've been looking for Texas BBQ all over. I have to say we were thoroughly impressed here off the Tennyson strip! The staff was thorough and kind, greeting us in and sending us off with full bellies and smiles radiating. The place was bustling and full, a good sign in my book. We chose a few classics to get a good feel: beef brisket, smoked turkey, smoked wings with collard greens and the house bacon mac as our sides. Unfortunately, rolling in at nearly 7 we missed the honey glazed biscuits and Dino-ribs, already sold out for the day. The wings and turkey were cooked perfectly! I did prefer the juicier flats compared to the drums. The brisket, coming in at third place, was dry unfortunately. The sauces had to carry that one down, although the smoky flavor was there. Greens were absolutely delicious, the bacon mac was creamy and thick and flavorful. The Texas and Carolina sauces were a crowd favorite, tangy with a little kick, just enough to get the sinuses running! They had complimentary white bread (not toasted), cucumbers and jalapeños. Visiting Colorado for the first time, I had to make a pit stop for some barbecue, and this place absolutely delivered. I loved that they offer daily specials; since it was Friday, they had a great deal on their burnt ends. I also tried the ribs, $8 for a two-count or $4 for a single, and they were amazing. The jalapeño mac and cheese was incredibly delicious. Honestly, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Everything tastes so good. My go to bbq spot! It is a little on the pricey side but it's the closest thing I've found to Texas bbq. The service is always fast and friendly, and the restaurant itself is laid back and cool. The bbq is great. I usually get the pulled pork and the burnt ends are only on Fridays and definitely worth the visit! The fried okra is one of my favorite sides.
