Absolutely unacceptable experience with American first credit Union La Habra, California I deposited over $1,000 in cash using one of their ATMs, assuming it would be a straightforward process. Instead, I got an error message saying there was a technical issue with ATM machine-- no receipt, no confirmation, nothing to show that the money was accepted or even received. When I went inside the branch for help, I was told there was nothing they could do because the ATM is serviced by a third party. Their only suggestion? File a complaint and wait. It's now three business days and I haven't received any updates. Every time I call, I get the runaround -- no answers, no timeline, no ownership of the issue. This situation has caused a serious financial hardship, and American First has shown zero urgency or accountability. If you value your money and your peace of mind, I strongly suggest banking elsewhere. read more

This CU provides mobile deposit and I have tried for 3 days to deposit my disability check. I have written what I am suppose to on the back of the check and the auto capture takes the picture but won't let my check deposit into my account. I live in the Bay Area. Not very convenient. I guess I will soon close this account and transfer both my accounts from American First to my Travis Credit Union account. What is sad is, I have had this account for more than 25 years. read more

Do not bank with them, they had a fraud department that can't even help or turn back on your card! Leaving your institution will be the best decision I make! Turned off my card because I pad all my bills and ordered on Amazon!!! No fraud call but when I spoke to the fraud team, she couldn't even turn my car back on. What a joke this online banking transition has been. Having no access for days and having the credit union closed and when reopened impossible to speak with a live person is ridiculous!! I've been a member for over 20 years and I am frustrated with how this was handled. This bank has ALWAYS been such an amateur bank. Now I had to sit for days, without any way to be able to look at my account because of some change in system. Today it was suppose to be back up at 2, I go on and all transactions are gone except for November! I've been messaging and all I get is "sorry for the inconvenience" and that I'll have to get the transactions from my statement. "Rita" couldn't even tell me when I get my October statement! This is another blunder from this bank that of course wasn't thought through. Even their social media can't respond. Who the hell wipes out customers transactions on their accounts???? How do we even know our money wasn't messed with if know one knows their job???? GET IT TOGETHER!!!! read more

I'd give zero stars if possible. These shjlisters charged me $5 a day on a $5.26 overdraft. Then I couldn't see my account was in overdraft as the daily total grew. My experience with this company is one of bad business practice, deceptive policies and communications, and just plain ole grifters. To employ a secret, $5 aday overdraft fee is something the large bank grifter would approve of. Banks can only function by people giving them money, which the banks use as a, interest free, loan. They then charge their customers' interest on their own money and fees to have access to their own money. Shame on us for allowing this demonic evil that imprisons us all read more

I've been a customer of American First Credit Union for approximately 5-6 years. I called them today, a Saturday, 10/12/24 starting at approximately 9:30 am. After being on hold for 30 minutes I finally got a representative. While asking questions about my auto loan and getting some info I was hung up on in mid sentence. I called back and was on hold another 20-30 minutes and after getting another representative I began again asking about my auto loan and again, I was hung up on in mid sentence. I called a 3rd time and after on hold another 20 minutes I asked for a supervisor. As I'm explaining to her with a calm demeanor how I was hung up on twice, she also hangs up. American First I will see you on Tuesday morning after the holiday to take all of my money out of your credit union and put it somewhere I'm valued and respected. I would give you 0 stars if I could. I suggest people think twice before putting your money here. Very poor customer service. read more

This place recently moved from a location that was closer to Whittier Blvd. I come here as they have an agreement with my employer's credit union to be able to do my banking here. For some asinine reason this credit union no longer accepts other credit unions business inside their facility. Sure, I'm still able to withdraw money from their ATM, but I am only allowed to withdraw $300 maximum. And to top that off, the ATM machine does not give a receipt for the last two weeks. In this crisis we are facing, you cannot count on this credit union for help. What's even worst is that this credit union is never busy! Sad read more

I bank with a sister branch who isn't open on Saturdays. I called the 800 call center and told them my situation and that I didn't bank with American but a sister branch and was told I could take money out (up to $2k & anything more was mangers discretion). I got here with only 30 min until closing and was told $500 was the limit period. A waste of time, gas and most importantly the call center was the one who told me to come here with completely different information. When I spoke with the Manager on site. I was told no, it's the policy. What's disappointing is I made the call I thought would give me accurate information and basically drove over 25 min in a rush to be told the call center wasn't correct. No extra help or recommendations given. I would recommend this place. At least at my branch I would be offered extra help. read more

They basically stole $55 from me. Because my checking and savings had been inactive for a while they first took the $30 from my checking and closed the account, they did a transfer to my savings so my balance was $60. They then closed my savings and charged me $55 in fees because it had even inactive. Imagine going in to actually close the accounts and find that you only have $5.02 !! This can happen to you too. DO NOT PUT YOUR $$$ IN THIS CREDIT UNION read more

700+ Credit Score approved on a used vehicle purchase and internal process at this credit union was going to take 5 business days to deliver funds to the dealer for the vehicle. I have purchased many cars and it's always been immediate until I tried with American First. I finally cancelled after I was told multiple times that their process couldn't be sped up. I then financed at the dealer instead and all was handled within minutes of filling out a credit app. Horrible experience here. Try another financial institution for convenience. Unfortunately, I had to have another credit pull but it was simple elsewhere. read more
