Finding open restaurants early weekdays is tough in this seasonal mountain area. We stopped to check it out and expected actual flatbreads and nit ouzza. But our selections were fine. Had I not just looked up American Flatbread's website to check the menu, I would not have known this was a chain of about 10 restaurants. There is nothing that indicates it, and I say that in the best possible way. We ate dinner here based upon good YELP reviews for restaurants in the area. It is a rather large bar type restaurant, but the friendly vibes made me feel it was a family-owned place. The back of the restaurant overlooks very nice gardens. We ate inside, but near the open doors and it was quite enjoyable. The service and menu were the stars of the show. The menus had drawings from kids as the cover of the menus. What a great idea! I attached photos of the two drawings we had. Our waitress was a delight and very attentive. My wife and I split a pizza and a Caesar Salad ($10). The salad was huge, even for two people. When we ordered, we asked the waitress to recommend whether to get the small or large size pizza (which they call flatbread) and she recommended the small. I appreciate the honesty. We ordered the "12 inch Revolution Flatbread16 (15.25) which had homemade tomato sauce, caramelized onions, mushrooms, whole milk mozzarella, parmesan cheese, homemade garlic oil, and herb mix. It was excellent! With a Diet Coke, a pint of beer, and tax, it was less than $40. All in all, it was a completely enjoyable dinner. read more

My wife & I ordered takeout from American Flatbread on a Sunday around 5pm. First, the lady who took my order was super friendly so first impressions were positive. She took my phone number and told me I would receive a text when my pizzas were ready (we ordered a 12" homemade sausage pizza and 12" medicine wheel pizza - pictured). She estimated 25 minutes, and that was pretty spot-on. I received a text about 25 minutes later that my pizzas were ready. My wife and I each enjoyed our pizzas. My pizza didn't 'travel' well in the box (as shown), but it was tasty! This is definitely a flatbread pizza, not a thin crust. It holds up well with the cheese and sauce they use; a very nice balance of flavors. (Note: Expect grease - being that it's a thin flat bread, there's no where for the grease from the cheese blend to go/get absorbed. That didn't bother me but I can see how some people would be put-off by that.) Overall, I'd say this is a solid pizza - it's not going to blow your mind, but it'd definitely be good for hangovers or when you have a general hankering for a za. read more

Consistent. Friendly. Cozy. Since they opened in 2022, we've been here with our two young kids(and often guests) about 15-20 times....maybe more. The food, service and overall vibe has been consistent. Frankly, that's the most you can ask from any restaurant you enjoy....especially in a ski town. While some restaurants struggle to handle a family with toddlers, they seem to hire people who know how to smile at you during your most stressed out dining experiences. The environment here is a good layout because you have two separate bars, with eating tables in between. Then you've got the firepit out back for the summer, fireplace for the winter/fall and arcade to keep the kids occupied. Really the environment is wide ranging, which is perfect for hosting. Finally the pizza(and salad). I'm not 23 anymore. When I over-eat pizza, I need some greens to balance it all out. The salad is a great addition that continues to surprise our guests(i'm no longer surprised). Then you throw in a very good pie and you have people leaving happy. I still haven't picked up a pizza to go here, but I plan on it one of these days. Until then, I'll keep enjoying what feels like a neighborhood vibe in a ski town. read more

American Flatbread opened only three weeks ago, taking over the space and many of the assets of the previous inhabitant, Dover Forge. We had a really good experience! 5 stars for location, atmosphere, service, and food. Our server was super warm and friendly, and other servers pitched in to help. We each ordered the basic salad and added tons of vegetables. And we shared a delicious pizza with carmelized onions and mushrooms. The pizza crust, sauce, and cheese were all top-notch, and getting something baked from that humongous oven was a treat! My only suggestion for improvement is the beer/wine selection. There is no printed beer/wine list ("because it's always changing"), only a beer board and no wine list. Spouse tried three beers, none of which was any good in our opinion. She finally settled on a maple stout dark beer which was good but sweet. I was surprised to experience this given the amazing availability of world class beers in Vermont. I had a Pinot noir wine with a generous pour which I appreciate. It was from Chile and costs $6 retail, good for quaffing with pizza. If you are looking for memorable wines and beers, this may not be the place to go. I'd like to see effort put into curating so any choice is great! This place has been on our radar for awhile. We live down road in Newfane, and Brattleboro is our usual go to dine spot. But jonesing for some good Tri State area pie for a decade now. Fit the bill on so many fronts. Pizza was really yummy. Nice crisp, thin crust and delish toppings. We both got 2 smalls and brought home huge doggy bag, as even the "small" was huge. The beer was cold and perfect. It was a gorgeous early afternoon, Vermont day and we opted to eat outside, which was peaceful and fun, as a small group of fellows played cornhole in the yard. Asked if next time, we could bring our sweet Olliver Golden pup if it wasnt too crowded outside, and big thumbs up for that from manager. Speaking of who: everyone we met, from the friendly, helpful manager, to the pizza cooks who all smiled as we walked by, to, our incredibly sweet and totally on top of her game waitress/bartender Valerie, were pleasant, friendly and knew their stuff. Won't be back. Waitlisted and skipped over many times because our party was too small. Originally told 25 min wait, were sat an hr and 45 mins later. Called after 40 mins of waiting and asked if take out available, was told no. Went in when 3rd on wait list, waited another 45 mins during which the manager opened up take out. When we were next to be seated 3 larger parties were sat before us. Once we were actually sat, there were 6 EMPTY tables for 4 each!!! Tried this new place out last night. Enjoyed the ambiance and the food. Salad was very good. Pizzas were tasty especially the maiu kaluha with pork shoulder. We tried all three desserts. They were the only part of the meal that wasn't very good. All three had ice cream that when delivered was already melted. The brownie was very hard and the doughnuts tasted stale. We love the Middlebury one and planned on taking our elderly infirm mother there for her birthday. We were a large party.. all of her kids and grandkids were in attendance. After calling to figure out if they could accommodate us, we opted to order pies for pick up. At 430 pm we called and confirmed that pies would take 30 min to make. I tried to go online to order but it said " no more online orders"... No further info. After driving to the restaurant with my sister to purchase 5 pies for the birthday celebration...the hostess said we couldn't order for take out because they were busy. She was polite and seemed understanding of the fact that we had called, planned, traveled, and the whole birthday situation. We asked to speak to the manager, a bald man in his 50s (?) Who would not even let me speak. He was abrasive, unfriendly, and said it didn't matter that we had called because that was then and this was now. Zero people skills and no help.
