I've seen negative reviews, but I've had nothing but a very positive experience here. Yes, there is a very long backlog for gunsmithing (simply replacing a rear sight on a 1873 lever-action rifle is 1-3 months!), but the staff person was very helpful and professional and he was extremely knowledgeable. Other shops have given me blank stares when I talk about SASS-style guns, but these guys really know their stuff. read more

The worst gun store you can go!!!!!!!!!!I This time I called them before going and I told him that I need to do a private party transfer and he told me we only do this on Wednesdays and Saturdays so I went there Saturday at 12:00 pm and waited in line for almost 45 minutes and some weird looking lady came out and told me I'm sorry we ran out of time you have to come back later..this was the third time I went there for this process and yet again was turned away..I will never go back here again and I told all my friends!!!!!!! But I wanted to leave a review of the tremendous customer service and mostly how good of a gunsmith they have here. I brought my father's Colt 357 Magnum Python and his .22 long rifle hand gun (target gun). Both were misfiring, frequent jams, etc etc. just a horrible shooting experience. Just picked it up today and it still hasn't been worked on. 5 months later I still have a broken gun. This was a family heirloom and means a lot to me. When I called to try and see if the gun had been worked on, they were nothing but rude telling me I need to wait until they get it done and then they will call. I have never owned or dreamed of owning a weapon but I felt it was necessary to buy one. I remember it was the end of May and the lines were long at the store. I waited a good hour-hour and a half before I was let in but it was worth it. I took the fire arm certificate, I asked what was the best gun for home defense and they referred to me to a shotgun. They explained to me how it worked and what kind of ammo i should purchase. Straight forward as can be. Despite being there for almost 6 hours (crowded lines and I had to pull cash because my card was being flagged for fraud), I was happy to have made my purchase. Everyone was very helpful. Laura is very sweet and helpful when asking about the difference in shot size for a 12 gauge. This place is great and I have been coming back for ammo. I brought an EMP here for checkering and blending of the rear slide last year and had an issue with the results. I brought this to the attention of the owner, Jeff Bregman and Jeff told he was unaware of the situation and would not have allowed the firearm to leave his shop under such conditions. Jeff assured me that he would personally oversee the project to make things right, at no additional cost. Due to their workload, Jeff went as far as sending the firearm back to the manufacturer to replace the frame and to complete the job out of his own pocket. I could not be more happier with the work and felt this experience needs to be shared. Mistakes happen in business and I believe it is also is a true test of the shop's customer service. In this situation, Jeff's response and steps taken to resolve the situation were above and beyond. I would definitely return to do business and recommend his shop. read more

What's funny with someone who has the audacity to not use their real name in the message asking my original review to be removed that by having it removed forcefully, I get to repost. And now that it's newer, more people will see what they did. It's like Christmas again. Not a good place for customer service. Ask yourself if you want to be in a toxic environment for large value purchases or go a few miles to another city, aka not Glendale by the Taco Bell and grocery store in the adjacent lot. Can a customer not make a joke without the workers not only pointing their firearm at him with the intent to shoot? All the while and acting like they enjoyed that? That happened. And in their original reply, they attempted to gaslight and say it wasn't them and that I "confused" them with another store when what I said was to GO to another store. There is no confusion. Looking at the other review replies gives you a good idea about how they act when they don't like you. Mistreatment by calling another reviewer names. At the very least, the business is questionable, at worst, dangerous. Then they went on to say "we work closely with local authorities" like they have some shady relationship going on there. I highly doubt they would be reporting an offense where brandishing their firearm without reason except they didn't like someone and wanted them out of their store would be legal. Any judge would revoke their concealed carry in a second if they got wind of that. Then they went on to say the workers are veterans to get the reader to feel sorry for veterans and side with them. When it actually proved my point even more about why they did what they did. Unstable people working at a store is bad enough. Now add it being a gun store and you have a recipe for a case of a store owner and a person who can't defend themselves. Finally it's very unprofessional. Online and off to act this way towards customers, there is a right way and a wrong way to take criticism, stalking a reviewer's page and looking at their reviews and saying something to attempt to discredit them because they choose to post about the businesses people need to avoid and keep the gems to himself or herself is their right. I work around the area and I have always seen this place when I drive by. I figured if I needed some gunsmith work done I'll check the place out. Came in and wanted to just ask about headspace inspection in one of my AR builds I just finished and wanted them to inspect the headspace... The younger guy that works there is a stuck up dude and must hate life... Rude as ****. He told me its a 3 week lead time to check headspace... and it's $125+. For a 5 mins job and the tool it self that cost $100-. Unbelievable! Overpriced priced and rude! I really wanted to like this place but I'll buy the tool myself and save the hassle dealing with this guy. In addition, the other workers there are pretty nice but still overpriced. read more

It was in all CA approved lists. Was the gun returned to the original broker source so that I could be refunded? No. What happened to the gun? Added to the owner's private collection? I came to American gun works as a first time customer wanting to simply remove the nut off my shotgun forend (this is extremely simple and will take less than 5 minutes to perform with a vice and tool). A man approached me and said "our MINIMUM gun smithing cost is $55 dollars" and that he would "cut me a DEAL" and do it for $20... I have done this at many different gunsmiths and they have either done it for FREE or charged between $5-$10 which is still a good deal. After all they are performing an extremely simple elementary job for me. I asked the man sir this is going to take no more than 5 minutes, why are you charging $20. And his response was "it's easier to just pull out a $20 from your wallet" I said "I think $20 is too steep, if your hourly rate is 60 dollars, then a 5 minute job should by $10 at most" I KINDLY refused his service with a smile and he literally exploded and went off on me, telling me that I "insulted" him and his "knowledge" and continued by cursing me out WITH customers in the store... I picked up my forend and left. As I was leaving he also yelled out "this isn't a middle eastern bazar" YES, you're right! this is AMERICA and I can do with my money whatever the hell I please. So don't whine like a kid when someone declines your outrageous fee for unscrewing a dam NUT. What a sad and pathetic response to someone who simply refuses service. This man doesn't know how to treat customers, especially first time customers, if he had an ounce of brain capacity he would have taken the $10-$15 I was willing to pay for a $5 dollar job, but he was too dumb to do that. If he treated me better and taken the $5 dollar hit I would have purchased $100 dollars worth of shooting targets and clays on the spot, but he's a rude imbecile and I took my business to GUNS DIRECT in BURBANK and got it removed for $10 THIS OWNER DOESNT KNOW HOW TO TREAT CUSTOMERS, a 5 dollar loss could have gained him thousands in gun sales by me. American Gun Works Took me and treated me like a valued customer gave me a military discount for being a veteran helped me make the choice that I am most happy with with the information and the time they spent with me to make sure I liked my choice. What a great facility and all five or six employees or interacting with me and exchanging information and it was just a very well ran store. They even let me take my gun safety test when the store was about to close doing me a huge favor. I was referred to this place by Gun World in Burbank. I've shopped at Gun World for 20+ years. Love those guys. But they don't have a gunsmith on staff, so they suggested I call this place. So I call American Gun Works, and the guy who answered the phone is immediately very rude. I had already purchased the parts I wanted to use (Apex), but he said I should use what he prefers (Hyve). I have no negative opinion about Hyve products - I'm just familiar with Apex and prefer to stick with what I know. This jerk kept interrupting me and barking at me that what I want is no good and what he likes is what I should do. He actually implied that the job might go wrong because it was Apex parts, and I would just have to risk it. The price offered for the gunsmithing services was not a bargain. There were no assurances about the quality of work. Nothing was said to earn a new customer. But the final straw was his baffling demand that I must leave my gun with them for the entire duration of their backlog in order to get in the queue to get the work done. Current wait time: two months (allegedly). I don't begrudge anyone being busy, but demanding possession of my gun to hold for a two month wait prior to work, or otherwise refusing to serve me? Outrageous!! This is how the conversation went: "We have a big backlog, so you come by, give us your gun now, and we'll get to it when we get to it, maybe 6 to 8 weeks". I said, "What? No, how about I give you a deposit or credit card number, whatever you need up front, and then when it's about time for my gun to go on the bench, call me, and I'll bring it by." "No no we can't do that we have big important jobs and we are very busy. This is our policy! You have to bring it here and leave it until we get to it." I said, "You're serious? You're insisting on taking my gun and holding it for two months, or you'll refuse to work on it, even with money up front?" Answer: "That's our policy! We're very busy!" It was such a ridiculous conversation, there was no point in continuing. I ended the call. Even Pelosi and Feinstein don't make you wait two months for your gun in CA. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of coming from a gun store. Who owns this place? Gavin Newsom? Like we don't have enough difficulty in CA? Now we need gun shops disarming us? I was trying to find a gunsmith, and somehow I end up talking to Maxine Waters? Ever heard of a Calendar app on those fancy things called computers? It reminds you to give a customer a courtesy call a few days ahead of time and let them know it's time to come by? If you want to be hard, tell people they lose their place in line if they don't show up on time, but how moronic do you have to be to literally refuse to serve new customers unless you can arbitrarily disarm them for two months? If the people at American Gun Works don't have the intellectual capacity to understand the problem with their current approach to doing business, then they're too stupid to work on my gun. This place epitomizes everything that is so ridiculous about California, especially as it relates to the 2A. You call a gun store, and the guy on the phone sounds like your typical nanny-state liberal bureaucrat, telling everyone what to do to conform to his "policy". Came in to pick up ammo purchased online as this was my closest FFL dealer and it was an easy process. They were also willing to answer any questions I had and gave me recommendations on some ammo choices. Very friendly and welcoming staff that made me feel comfortable right off the bat. A lady and a gentleman there were very helpful, unfortunately I did not get their names. Jeremy was the main person who took care of me from the time he called to let me know my ammo had arrived to the point of pickup, and he was very professional and helpful. The store itself is well laid out and has a good selection of rifles, pistols, and ammo. They have a selection of ammo that's hard to find online (Winchester Silvertip .223) albeit a bit pricey, but definitely worth it for personal and family protection.
