What a waste of money! We hired them for a Move-Out cleaning. We found them via Angie's List and their website seemed very professional, so we expected great things. They did not do great things. After giving Mustan a description of the house, she gave us a $240.00 quote. Our house wasn't incredibly dirty, but there was a lot of dust after all of our items were moved out. When they were done cleaning, she asked for $350.00 and wanted to be paid only in cash. When she said they were about done, I did a walk-through and there were parts of the house they didn't touch at all. This was a move-out cleaning, so it's supposed to be thorough. I had to ask them to sweep several areas, like the laundry room and the garage, but they didn't bring a broom?!?! Luckily, I didn't send ours with the movers, so they used it to sweep the laundry room, but never did the garage. The cabinets and walls and windows were also still dirty. They didn't clean under the refrigerator or under the stove vent hood. And, according to the owner, they used something on the wood floors that they weren't supposed to. The house was dirty enough that the property management company charged us a $300.00 cleaning fee from our deposit! I've been using American House Cleaning for about 6 years straight now. It's always such a joy to come home after they've cleaned. They do a great job doing general cleaning with lots of extras like stripping the bed, putting the dirty sheets in the wash and making sure the furniture is nicely positioned so that everything is clean and tidy. I really appreciate that they are green and make sure the recycling and compost are all put in the right bins. I really try to give our local businesses a shot and a break during these crazy times but we were treated so poorly I had to warn others. They were awful! They hired incompetent cleaners that continually damaged things. They scratched our wood floors, broke dishes, and ruined one of our nice rugs. They put knives the wrong way in the dishwasher and my wife cut herself on them. They would regularly "mop" the floor and leave a sticky residue after they were gone. When we tried to get reimbursement for the rug they offered a fraction of it's worth. Once we showed them the value and where we bought it, they only bumped the offer a small amount and said "final offer". We ended up taking that amount because it wasn't worth it to try to sue them for the extra $400. DO NOT HIRE THEM! read more

We've had American Housecleaning since just before my daughter was born almost 7 years ago. A few things that I like about Mustan and the company: 1) If I ever need to cancel or switch weeks or have an extra cleaning they work with me on it. 2) I canceled for money reasons for a year and a half and started up again, and it was no problem. Very professional. 3) They handled locked doors, dog being left inside, etc. just fine and have never complained when life got too busy and we weren't able to do any pickup prior to their visit. I called American HouseCleaning on Saturday and the owner (Mustan) arranged to have cleaners come for me the same day! The girls did such an amazing job; they scrubbed away all the mold that naturally builds up in our shower stall, they vacuumed every inch of the carpet, they cleaned all the blinds, they did the dishes, vacuumed my dog fur covered couch. The whole house smelled fresh and as clean as when we moved in. Because this was my first time using their service (or any housecleaning service for that matter) Mustan gave me a verbal quote based on the size of my house. I thought to myself that it will definitely be the top of the quote. I was pleasantly surprised that it was just a tad over the base price and she told me that going forward it will be cheaper. We have been using American House Cleaning for around 6 months and will continue to use to them! My employer works in New York Monday-Friday every week so when she comes home she wants a clean, fresh smelling house, Aura and Catalina have provided that every single time. They arrived one hour late. But when they arrived, three ladies did a nice job. They made this old hard to clean tub look great. Some minor annoyances like unplugging hard to reach things and then leaving them unplugged so I had to find out later that I needed to go back and plug them in. And not putting tables, etc. back where they were before cleaning. There was also the annoying bait and switch on the acceptance of credit cards which is advertised on their website and then after they were done, I was told cash only. Which I didn't have on hand and had no way of getting. So in the end, they accepted a check. Overall I would use this service again. read more

I hired AHS to do a move-out clean for a friend's short-term apartment. They did a stellar job on cleaning. The landlord got a cleaner place back than he rented it. They arrived within the time window: 10:00 - 10:30 am. Not a problem there. However, they did not seem to know that the entrance to the apartment was on a side street, so it was different from the address of the building. And they also did not know that a vacuum cleaner was definitely needed. After I hauled ass to find them halfway down the next block, they went to the parking spot in front of the building and asked me the question about needing to bring up the vacuum. I tipped the two-person team well, but since the entire experience was a bit less than perfect, I could only give 4 stars. I am provisionally hiring them for my home. Mustan and her crew did a pretty good job cleaning a home in Menlo Park. I also had them do a move-out cleaning at a house I was renting in Redwood City. I was so busy moving my stuff that I didn't have time to inspect their work before paying Mustan. She charged $380 to clean a 2-bdrm house with a small kitchen. To be fair, the house has 3 bathrms., and I had not done a thorough cleaning before they came. Afterwards, the owners sent me a note with a portion of my deposit: "The things we have noted as being unsatisfactory are: Windows not cleaned (I had not expected the cleaners to wash the windows, but the photos the owners sent showed cobwebs had not been dusted off). Bathroom grout in master shower is dirty Bathroom grout above sink in powder room is dirty Bathroom grout in guest shower is dirty Kitchen marble is stained Stovetop has permanent stains and stove front is still dirty Dishwasher is dirty inside and out Refrigerator front is dirty Exhaust fan hood was not cleaned" I was charged $225 dollars from my deposit. The photos the owners sent with their letter confirm their complaints. Perhaps Mustan had underestimated the amount of time they needed to get the job done properly, but I wish she would have acknowledged to me that they had not completed the job at the time that I paid her, so we could at least have had a conversation about it. read more

I called Mustan to clean our home after we had gotten it fumigated. She was very responsive and available last minute, which was fantastic, but the team did not do a thorough cleaning job. From my experience, it takes ~2 hours to clean our home properly. She spent 1 hour cleaning and told me she was done. When I inspected the rooms, I found several areas that were clearly not cleaned (e.g., surfaces had dust on them). When I showed her the areas with the dust, she kept telling me that they had cleaned everything. Overall, not a thorough cleaning job. I suspect this is because she takes on too many homes in a day, and tries to get through them quickly which does not make for a job well done. I will not be using her services again. read more
