No blame to the nail techs and the hair stylists. The problem appears to be at the front of the house. I can't support a business that misleads their customers. I bought a Groupon for a spa pedicure. The experience was good and the nail tech was friendly. The problem occur when I was checking out at the front, the front lady informs me that my nail technician does not take my Groupon. I always read the fine print to make sure I'm not overlooking any funny business. The Groupon does not clearly specify that only specific nail techs take the Groupon. This note should've been mentioned on the phone when she was scheduling my appointment. How am I supposed to know? The lady asked me to pay the difference for a mistake that she made. Also the nail techs are stuck in this small room in the back of the house with no windows. Not sure if the room is well-ventilated or ventilated at all. It is a bit concerning for not only the customers but also for the nail techs who are stuck in the room all day. I think they need to rethink this space. read more

I went here today for bikini waxing services. I don't think I'll go back. When I walked in, I hate to say it, but the place kind of smelled like a dog grooming salon. I wonder if they have ventilation issues or something. It was aesthetically very pretty and looked clean, but I was a bit put off by the smell. The receptionist was busy checking out other clients and talking with someone she appeared to be friends with, so it took a minute to get me checked in. I wasn't really warmly greeted and the receptionist went right back to talking to her friend rather than welcoming me, a new client. I was on time for my waxing appointment, and the waxer was running behind, but no one bothered to tell me, or even check in to see how I was doing during my wait or apologize for not running on schedule. No one asked me to take a seat or offered me any coffee or water from their refreshment area until a random stylist came up to me after I had been waiting for about 10 minutes already. When my waxer came out, she was visibly flustered because she was running behind. I kind of felt bad for her. Granted, I was using a Groupon for waxing services so I'm sure that's why she was so busy. She was very nice throughout the whole appointment. She led me into the waxing room, which was nice looking and private. She had me take off my shoes and pants with her in the room, which I thought was a little strange. When I have gotten waxed before I was given a few minutes of privacy to do this. She had me leave may panties on to wax as well. I guess some people do it that way, but again, I had always had my knickers off before when having this service. Then came the reason I won't return: She used the same metal spatula to apply all my wax and was "double dipping" in the wax pot. If I wasn't in such a rush to get this done for a special occasion and I hadn't bought the groupon already, I would have ended the appointment. That is extremely unhygenic. Now I get to spend the next week or so praying that I don't get a skin infection or anything. I was also bruised just a bit, but not much. My waxer also told me her last 2 appointments directly before me were also for bikini services, so all I was thinking the whole time was "ew" and "man, I hope those other 2 girls showered as thoroughly as I did before their appointments." I can't speak for their other salon services, but for what they charge for a wax, to be treated the way I was and for the waxing to be unhygenic like that I feel ripped off. I'll probably call and complain about the 'double dipping,' because that just shouldn't EVER happen. The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because it did look nice, the waiting area was comfortable, and my waxer was very sweet and friendly. EDIT: I called the salon and expressed my concerns about the waxing method. My waxer called me back promptly and informed me that they use NuFree waxing product, which is 'self sanitizing,' allowing them to use one spatula per client (I did forget to mention a new, clean spatula was used on me). I did look it up online and was able to find a scientific published study that seems to back up this claim. Still, based on my other experiences there, I don't know that I would go back. read more

Funny story... I won a hair cut to this shop in an auction years ago. It was with a man who by the time I went to set up the appointment was no longer there. So, I went to a wonderful hair dresser named Heather. She was chopping my hair off from long to a bob (I know...so much trust put into a new hair dresser!), but my bravery was rewarded. She did such an awesome job. The cut was exactly what I wanted and she styled it remarkably. Normally I don't like how stylists style my hair, and she nailed it! I was so thrilled. I since then grew it out to be long again though I loved it (short hair didn't really suit me and it was harder to style for me). About two years went by and I was prepping for engagement photos. I thought who better to style my hair than this miraculous stylist I found a year or two ago? Unfortunately, I couldn't remember her name or the name of the salon. I knew the area started with a 'c' (maybe Creve Coeur, I thought?). Somehow I figured out American was in it, the website looked familiar, OK maybe I'm on to something. I call and talked to the friendly receptionist who tried to help me, but unfortunately they had changed electronic systems in the past year and couldn't find who did my hair. I dug out my box of business cards (maybe she gave me one by chance?) and wouldn't you know, her card was there! I was ecstatic. I called back, told the receptionist the story, and she booked me the day after next at my preferred time for a hair cut and style with Heather (turns out she would have found me if I told her the spelling of my last name). I couldn't believe my luck that A) she was still working there and B) was working and available the day of my pictures. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up! When I came in, I was reminded why I loved it here! The ambiance is wonderful. They have Aveda products and many other professional lines, but Aveda is my favorite :-) Heather came and got me and we had a laugh about the situation. We also swapped engagement stories and all that. This time, she cut and styled my hair when it was much longer. I will say she styled it a bit too much at first, but I told her and she was not offended, fixed it the way I liked it, and was nice about it. This truly makes her stand out above rest as some stylists get offended! She took her time, really styled my hair more than most cuts get I'm sure, yet did not charge me for more than a haircut + style. That said, it still set me back $50+, but for special occasion where I really want my hair to look perfect, it was worth it (or if I ever decide to go short again, which I am very tempted to do after our wedding :-)). I would highly recommend you check out this salon, especially Heather, and tell her I sent you! read more

Came into town from CA with a hair color that was more toward the orange end of the color spectrum.. Not a great color if you are trying to let your grey grow out... I was referred to this salon by my Daughter. My stylist was Mary and wow did she listen to all of my wants and did a fabulous job on my cut and color:) I just wish I lived here for she would be my stylist for life.. The new haircut she gave me... I love it too! You rock Mary, you are a great stylist, you listened and understood what I was looking for and for that I thank you... I went in to American Image after purchasing a Groupon and looking for a new stylist after having moved here not to long ago. I received a cut and color from Ryan and I was very happy! I could tell he was a bit younger and still learning because he asked questions from one of the other stylists about matching my desired color exactly, but that did not bother me what so ever. He did know what he was doing but I am happy knowing he double checked to make sure he was doing it right, then him not ask and it go wrong. He also asked me questions throughout the process to make sure I was happy. He really listened to what I wanted and even left more on so he could cut more after I saw it, which I REALLY appreciated! You can say Ryan was really thorough and a perfectionist and I will be back! I would recommend Ryan to others! A couple other notes - Salon was clean and inviting The front desk when I checked out in the evening were great and very friendly but the afternoon staff were okay. The main receptionist just checked me in grabbed me a tea and that was it. She didnt inform me that Ryan was running a couple minutes behind on his last appointment or say anything to me. I kind of felt like they were busy at first but as I waited to be called they were just busy gossiping. However, after reading other reviews this seems to be a trend. I will like I said earlier come back since my main concern is my hair not my check in process but I still will make a note for others to also know. read more

The salon is nice.. but that's not why i'm writing. Stylist Michael Simpson is AMAZING... I have extremely thick hair and he is the only stylist I've ever found that has made me LOVE my hair. He doesn't thin it with crazy thinning shears like most stylists like to do... he is meticulous with scissors and is a genius. I discovered him at Dominick Michael and Facebook stalked the man when I discovered he was no longer there. He is now at American Image and I drive 45 minutes to see him. Completely worth it! Luckily for me, I was able to get an appointment with Hannah when I called. I've never had a bad experience at an Aveda salon, but this one tops them all. Go see Hannah Heppner. She's careful, thorough, and explains each step of the process, which for me was a color, foil, lift, all kinds of crazy cool stuff. She's also a great listener and a super sweet lady. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!! I purchased a Groupon for a mani-pedi to try this place out. I have been calling for months and they keep telling me they are booked solid weeks in advance. 6-7 weeks out which is as far as I can really schedule myself. When I told them my Groupon expired on the 20th, they said they could take me on the 21st, but only for the face value of my Groupon so I would have to pay the difference. The girl on the phone told me I was "probably out of luck and would be better off getting a refund" if I wasn't willing to pay more for the service. I was hoping to try this place out before spending the money, but now they will never have my business. read more

I called and got an appointment the day of. I have hair down to my waist and am very picky about who trims/cuts my hair but I have heard so many good things about this salon. I scheduled a haircut and was given a stylist named Carrie. The service was prompt. I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door, and offered something to drink. Carrie was very sweet and personable and did EXACTLY what I asked for with my haircut, and styled it for me after. I didn't even have to show her a photo, which is what I have had to do with every other salon (even ones where I have paid double what I paid here). It was also done in a very timely manner. If zero stars were an option, I would give them that. My pedicure was done by Meagen. While the other nail techs were focused on their customers, she was was focused on talking to anyone and everyone other than me. Frankly, i was embarrassed for her as her customers service skills will need a lot of refining. I left the salon with red splotches all over my feet. I asked for short square nails. She did not give me either short or square nails. However, the front desk was even worse. Becky, the salon manager, has some of the poorest customer services skills I've ever encountered. I expressed my concern regarding the service, having already given Becky my credit card. Thus, she knew I was not asking for a discount but sharing an experience that she have served as constructive criticism for future customers. She never apologized for my experience or asked how they could make it right. Her attitude was absolutely awful. read more

Well, I've been to this salon a few times. The people are pleasant. The past couple of times I've visited the salon it's been fine. I don't frequent this establishment enough because it is a tad overpriced. I've never received miraculous service that justifies the price. Call me cheap. Eh, my priorities are in order. And this last experience has me slightly angry/disappointed. Please note, I'm pretty low maintenance. My nails aren't done every two weeks, my hair color doesn't change monthly. So when I go in to hopefully get a new look, I'd like that to be the outcome. I have my cosmetology license, lord I know, I should've just done this myself, but i set aside some time on a Saturday to get some highlights. I'll try to keep this brief; I was there for 3 hours. Partial highlights? 3 hours? Good grief. The total cost was $133.00. As a licensed cosmetologist I know what the product costs, we're all being screwed. But take away the wasted 3 hours, the completely overpriced service. Mind you, I've thought about this long and hard and I can honestly, HONESTLY say I've never, not ever in my life, had a stylist tug and pull on my hair as rough as this chick was. Holy crap. So i take the time to go get pampered, pay a stupid amount, the foils are removed, the color rinsed out, and wa-la..........not a single difference. How could this be? I sat here for 3 hours, showed the gal what I wanted, what happened? What was she doing to me for 3 hours besides trying to rip the hair out of my scalp? Who knows is the final answer. I mean when I say no difference I mean THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE IN MY HAIR. I'm sure she's a great girl, perhaps having a terrible day judging by how hard she was tugging at my hair, but coloring may not be her forte. I was told the famous line, "this color will brighten up, come back if you want us to fix it." Come back? No chance. So it was obvious there was no color change, a mistake had been made, I'm still being charged for.....who knows.....it couldn't have been for partial highlights because that didn't occur. It's not even the cost. Yes, that's nauseating. It's not even that I wasted 3 hours of my life. I will never go back specifically because I don't want any chance of having my hair pulled on that badly. That was rough. As soon as I got to my car i called my husband and said, " well any fears you had of me coming home with some changed, new look you may not like, have no fear, I look exactly the same." The moral of this story guys and gals, don't let any Tom, Dick or Harry do your hair. Do your research. Background checks are a must. I've been going for about 6 months now and each time the receptionist is moderately attentive, but kind of snarky. I see Jeff as my hair stylist. He has an amazing eye for hair color. He does a great job whether you want something standard and pretty or something crazy and funky. I always want something crazy and off the wall and he seems to be able to read my mind. Also, after several months of slacking on getting my hair done, he remembered minor details about our past conversation, like he knew me personally- that was really cool. I trust him enough to tell him, "do whatever you think is best" because he always does a phenomenal job. I always walk out of Jeff's chair ecstatic! I would reccommend him to anyone. As far as the salon goes, I had a minimal wait even on a Saturday and the staff was polite and the facility was clean. Highly recommend this place. read more

I love this place!!!! And this I can say after having spent decades dealing with stylists who cut gaps in my hair, colored my hair orange,... You name it; if it was bad, it happened to me. Mary is AMAZING! She actually listened to my hair saga. Chewed on her lip a minute or so and suggested the curly girl method. What the heck. Never knew my hair would curl. I'm a wavy so the curl will style out, but not without fighting it. It has been wonderful. Six months in, my hair is doing great, and I can actually entertain the idea of letting it grow out longer which I never would have thought possible. Love my shellac mani from Erika!! I went in today for a mani. I had a groupon for a shellac 1hr manicure. Erika was so friendly and she did a beautiful job, she even offered to give me a glitter base to give my french mani some sparkle! Great deal and the salon didn't treat me any different even though I had a groupon. I even got a bag with a mini hairspray and some other goodies upon leaving! Will not be back, a horrible experience. Bought a Groupon, so I decided to give them a try. The stylist, Ryan, was very inexperienced. We had a consultation, I brought pictures for reference, and talked about what I wanted and he said he knew what to do. What I got was NOWHERE close to what I asked for. From color to cut, just plain awful! I understand they offer these Groupons to get clientelle for new stylists, but I think I could've gotten better by going to a beauty school, that's how bad the quality of his work was. Cut is uneven and has stray long pieces where they shouldn't be. Highlights are orange, not even a pretty blonde. When he finished, he knew that his work was not good. He offered to have me come back to give him a chance to fix it, which I declined. If this was his best work, I sure wasn't going to give him another chance to screw it up.
