I told them (left messages because they don't answer the phone) that I would be happy to pay them if they actually repaired the leak. This is only a one-star review because it can't be zero. These clowns came into our house to find a leak near the shower. They refused to go to any great lengths, and decided it was "probably" a hairline fracture in a certain section of pipe. Never mind that the leak wasn't constant, as a crack would have been. When he came to fix said leak, our plumber noted that dust completely covered the area on, around, and below what American Leak said was the problem. Clearly the leak was somewhere else. When we called to ask for a refund, we were denied. Constant circular arguments about semantics were more important to these jerks than being honest or fair. They care more about the money than their reputation. We'll get our money back, and it will be more painful the longer they fight it. Never, EVER, pay these jerks ANYTHING!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY. If you are a plumbing company, do NOT recommend them to your customers. They will damage your credibility and reputation just as they do their own. read more

I wish I can give this company zero star. The leak detection that Chuck did was inaccurate based on his detection. I called another company and once they picked up the floor, they found out that it was in a different area than where he pointed at. see his report below. once I send a video and pictures of the hole that was decked up by the other company to your email. Chuck was sent back out to "retest", even though the area was exposed, and you can see the leak. Even though in my email I told her I didn't want that because area was already decked up and the leak was found by" Mr rooter. I just wanted a refund becaus was inaccurate. When I spoke to the manager, Ryan(who was very unapologetic) he told me and I quote" it's not our fault the other company digged it out. How unethical was that. I told him that was cheating. He dismissed everything I had to say. This is on unfair and I am very angry. I wrote a customer survey. Hopefully someone gets back to me because I will not stop until I get my refund.. read more

We had American leak install a new liner in our pool 3 years ago. There were issues with the liner from the first week. We have had 3 different corners and one side of our liner slip out of place. They came back to repair it two times and on the second, they tried to have us pay for repair even though it was their mistake and it was right after they installed the liner. My husband fixed one of the corners himself as well. Upon opening up our pool last month we noticed another corner slipping and there was tearing around the skimmer. This should not be happening as the liner is only 3 years. We have tried emailing and calling several times and American leak will not respond to calls or try to address this issue. It's been over 2 weeks and we have only got "We will get back with you." Latham, The liner warranty company looked at pictures and told us that it would not be covered under warranty because it looked to be an installation problem. The liner was never measured correctly to begin with which would explain the corners falling and hole/stretching where the skimmer is. It would be nice to receive a call from American Leak to resolve this problem. Until then, we are extremely upset customers. read more

This was the biggest waste of money. The team did not complete basis investigative work and in the end entirely misdiagnosed the location of the leak. Thankfully the plumber located it (with no help from American Leak). American Leak tried to argue "well the leak wasn't in the sink or the toilet" (which a five year old could have told you) and argue over other semantics such as using the word "probably." The specific location they told me the leak "probably was" was clearly above where the leak actually was as even evidence by the location of water damage. Their website states they can locate hard to find hair line leaks. They instead gave me a wide range of location that spanned 3-4 feet and still were wrong all the while insisting "the leak was where we said it was" despite being below. It was a complete joke read more

Scott and Conner were prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable concerning my leak issue. I was making sure a known leak was the only leak in my in-ground pool. They quickly assessed and tested the plumbing and found no other leaks. I am having the concrete skirting around the pool removed and fresh concrete poured. The know issue is being addressed and Scott and Conner made sure no other problems exist. They even offered to get a quote on the repair of the skimmer, which I took them up on. This is the way a business should run! Thanks to both of you! I think American Leak Detection should consider you valuable assets to the company. read more

We called American Leak Detector because we were told by the city that we had a leak in our hot water pipe thus we were using 500 gallons a day. Paul came out and with his scanning, listening devices determined where he thought the leak was and surprisingly it wasn't crazy expensive. Rich and Jim showed up on time and proceeded to take care of the issue, they ran into a snag but calmly and urgently took care of it and moved on to trying to locate the leak, they unfortunately couldn't locate it so with more testing they did eventually find the small hairline crack in the pipe with minimal damage to the floor. Professional, nice, and kept us informed of what they were doing at all times. Would highly recommend them. read more

Well worth the money. Delco Water Technician came to my house. He let me know my water bill was unusually high, indicating a leak. I was referred to American Leak Detection. There was no clear evidence where the problem was occurring either inside or outside the house. Paul Close, technician and assistant arrived the next day. They began the search at my main cutoff valve. Paul pinpointed a water noise in a nearby toilet within minutes. He repaired the toilet system and connected a new water line to the wall. The outside water meter indicated the problem was solved! I was pleased that this repair resolved the water leak problem. I had no idea a toilet had such an impact on a water bill! Paul and his assistant worked quickly. They were courteous, friendly and efficient. There is a 30day warranty on the repair. I would be happy to hire them again if needed. My bill was noticeably less than was originally quoted as the solution was simpler than expected. read more

BEWARE - VINYL LINER REPAIR - BEWARE Before you consider calling American Leak Detection for a pool repair, I think it is fair that you know that this company will only guarantee their work for 48-hours. If they leave, and your pool is still losing water, you have 2 days to find out and report it. "What happens if they patch my liner and the patch comes loose on the third day?" Too bad. You just spent $367.00 and have nothing to show for it. "When will they tell me about this policy?" They will tell you after you've paid, not before you've paid. If fact, they won't even tell you in person. It will be in an invoice, that is emailed to you, and in an attached document, in the fine print. "What does this $367 cover?" Not a whole lot. Their tech came over, looked into my pool, and patched a hole near the edge where my deck was, so that he didn't have to get in the water. He said it was a simple fix and that he could probably just charge me for a leak test (which they didn't). He told me that he ran a test, on a day with 20 mph winds and strong gusts, and that my pool was no longer leaking. (I did not get to see these "test" results.) I asked him if he checked for any other leaks - I was told no. I asked if he was going to dive into the pool, and check the perimeter, the seams, the skimmer seal. I was told he was not. He told me he guaranteed his work. He told me to watch it for a few days, make sure that it wasn't leaking, and to give them a call if I had any problems. I immediately marked the water level in the pool, and filled a bucket of water to compare. The water level dropped over half an inch the first day. I marked it again the next day. After a few days, and a couple of days with rain, I checked and I had still lost 3 inches. My bucket had lost 1/4" - I called first thing Monday morning. My pool was still leaking. I was IMMEDIATELY told that they would not do a single thing. They referred me to their policy - 48 hours - and that if the patch doesn't hold they would have to come back out. I was told that they would only come back out for another $367.00 - they will do NOTHING after 48-hours. I however, can GUARANTEE that I will not be calling this company again. read more

They came out to determine where a shower was leaking. they found 2 spots and mr handyman made the fixes. according to ald they have a 30 day guarantee. what they don't tell you is it's only guaranteed if they come back and find additional issues. so my shower still leaks and there is no 30 day guarantee. $425 down the drain. read more

Very bad service, worked on our pool, no project oversight, constant arguments, no schedule to be finished, agreed on work the day before and every time they deviated cutting corners and caused damage they are refusing to fix, Plumbing work (which they should know how to do) was very strange and didn't work... do they understand how pressure works? They came out to identify a leak, which they did. They could come back the next day to fix which was great. However once they fixed leak, an other leak sprung. They wanted to charge me an additional $1300, on top of the $2500 I had already agreed to pay. They then told us the entire line needed to be replaced because if they fixed the one spot it would continue happening. My husband wanted to try to fix since it was a $2.50 part. I had 3 other plumbers out to quote replacing the line, they all said the same thing, the line didn't need replaced, but when American leak detection made fix and turned water back on, they broke the line by not opening up the faucets to let the air out. All the plumbers that came out were horrified that this company didn't admit to and fix the break in line. Now I have asked twice for someone to return my calls and as of the time of writing this review no one has called me back. It wasn't until I called from a friends phone that they answered, where the owner tried to insinuate that I was lying about his guys not bleeding the line. I was standing right over them when they turned the water on and no one ever asked me if the faucets were open. He also tried to tell me the regulations for a county that we are not in to again tell me the pipe I have in the ground is not correct. He refused to refund or credit me for an incomplete job and also couldn't confirm that they didn't just reuse a compression fitting that I already had and charged me for a new one. I am in Delaware County Oh with Delco water. I had a water main leak between my house and the meter. I tried everything to locate the leak that was somewhere in about 300 foot of plastic pipe between the meter and the house. Within 20 minutes the guys found and marked the leak that was well worth the $385. The person answering the phone was super helpful too and was able to send someone out the same day I called. I wish I knew about American leak detection when I first knew I had a leak. They also will Quote to fix the leak but I had my plumber on standby. They were very down to earth and easy to deal with. I was quoted $600 and $1000 minimum from two other locators so their price was the best too. read more

My tenant scheduled an appointment with them as I own the property and am 2000 miles away. I called the day of the inspection to ask some questions and see what they were going to do and how they would contact me with a report. Felt satisfied that they would do a good job and felt comfortable giving them my billing info (credit card number). They showed up, inspected the attact, and then told my tenant they needed some more specialized equipment to find the leak. They never returned to the condo and never returned my phone call to see what happened. Now, I still have a leak somewhere and this company wasted both me and my tenant's time and is possibly allowing more water damage to my condo. COMPLETELY unprofessional. This is a difficult review to write because I really want to have positive things to say about my business interactions with American Leak Detection of Columbus. The people I spoke to over the phone and the representatives who came to my house to assess my pool were very professional, extremely polite, personable, and quite friendly. My initial impressions were all exceptionally positive and honestly I still think highly of those people. I should also preface that my experience was skewed by a torrent of personal tragedy and loss faced by the owner of this franchise establishment so it may not be entirely representative of what other people can expect. All that said, ultimately my experience with American Leak Detection of Columbus was quite poor. I had them come out to assess some fairly major damage a pool cleaner had done to my pool. I knew going into it that I'd have to pay about $300 for them to come out, assess the damage and decide if it was work they'd be willing to take on. They were very up front about it and it was money I was willing to pay given the nature of the damage. Things at this point were still going well. Due to some disputes with the insurance company of the cleaner who damaged our pool it took me several weeks to reply to their estimate and sign it for them. From there they needed to a second more expensive assessment costing me just north of $500. For all intents and purposes it seemed pretty similar to that first assessment except they also tested our skimmer line which also needed to be repaired. At the time this was an investment in getting my pool fixed and I was happy to pay it. However after this visit was when we started having problems. I waited two weeks to hear back from them again before calling to see if they had come up with a plan to repair my pool. They told me they'd been kicking around a lot of ideas but hadn't come up with a plan they felt was best for my situation. The circumstances of my indoor pool are such that I felt this was reasonable and I hoped to hear from them soon. I called again a week later to see if they'd made progress and this time I was told the owner was suffering from tragedy compounded by loss right as the holiday season was approaching. I'm sympathetic to this, I'd certainly be in no shape to handle business decisions under such circumstances myself, but part of the reason I went with American Leak Detection and paid their slightly high assessment fees is because I knew they were a franchise of a larger business and I assumed that meant to some extent that the larger American Leak Detection entity would be responsible. To have everything rest on the shoulders of one man to the point that they're unable to conduct business is a major problem for an entity the size of American Leak Detection. Because of the situation with the pool cleaner's insurance company I was forced to pressure them a little for an estimate, flat out telling them that if they couldn't provide me with something I could present the insurance company I'd have to go with someone else. So they submitted the most basic possible bid with a slew of caveats about how they couldn't guarantee the work, that it may not be successful should they attempt it, and some rather large mischaracterizations about the state of the damage to my pool. It seemed almost designed to drive away my business and ultimately I was forced to seek out another contractor which was an unexpectedly arduous process. So I've paid upwards $800 to have them come out and look twice only to have them not do the work because they weren't capable of handing it. The whole affair has left a rather bad taste in my mouth and while circumstances may well have changed since my experience with them I'd certainly caution potential customers to think twice before engaging their services. read more
