5 stars for customer service. The first time I entered the store with my husband we where greeted warmly (though we scared the sales rep since he was vacuuming lol). We let him know we where just looking and pricing beds before we buy. He asked what type we where interested and explained which bed would be best for us . We tried a few of them out and stuck with one, all this was in Jan of 2013. We explained that right now we didn't have the finances, he let us know about layaway and their finance options. We declined and was still friendly. We asked for his name and employee number so we could give him credit for the sale when we came back. Now on 2/13/13 we came back and we where greeted again and was helped right away. The delivery is in two days and we where offered a free box spring and mattress cover because of the sale. (Hurray!!) The customer service rep said that the frame came free too, but when he rang it up and charged me he noticed it added the price too it! He quickly apologized and said "I keep my promises." And refunded me the $74.00. :) all I can say is I can't wait for the bed. I hope the delivery guys are as nice as these guys! read more

We really liked working with Bill Mackey the store manager here. We bought a twin mattress here on our second short visit and Bill was knowledgeable, upfront, helpful, and personable. We hadn't shopped for a mattress in maybe 15 years and were out of date on the industry. Pro tip: be ready for sticker shock! But American Mattress had the advantage of being the third and last shop we visited, and we sort of knew what we wanted and what we wanted to pay at that point. Bill was the right guy at the right time for us, and he liked that we knew a bit also! American Mattress also had another advantage - they had a nice closeout special on a quality twin mattress and that pretty much nailed it for us. We purchased a full mattress and adjustable base for our son at the Des Plaines location and really liked the mattress that we went back and bought a king mattress and adjustable base for ourselves. The people who delivered the items left multiple scratches on our 2 week old hardwood floor. We called the store and talked to BIll who then said that he was going to contact the office. I received a call the next day from someone asking if I could send pictures to delivery@americanmattress.com. I was told that I was going to receive a call regarding an update the following week. A week later and nothing. I called the store and I was told that I would be getting an update soon. A week later, and still nothing. I will be calling them again next week to see what's going on. It seems to me that they were so nice when you're purchasing from them. Customer service is severely lacking afterwards. I wonder what kind of service I'll get if something happens during the warranty period. I'm guessing I'll get the same runaround. I called the store the SAME DAY the mattress and base were delivered. Imagine calling for an issue within the 30 days or longer. Good luck with that. read more

What a great experience! Our sales representative Michael was extremely knowledgeable and helpful! We came in looking for a new mattress and a budget in mind! We wanted a qood quality mattress that was budget friendly as well! Honestly we weren't sure if that was going to be possible, we also had a hard time narrowing down what we were really searching for! Michael asked us all the necessary questions and showed us some mattresses! We finally found the perfect one, but it was almost double our budget! When we told Michael how much we wanted to spend he quickly found just as good mattress as the one we fell in love with!!!! And it was in our price range! He made the process smooth and easy!!! We had the best experience at American Mattress last month. I can truthfully say this because we had already gone to multiple mattress stores prior to this one. We were happily greeted by Jim Foley, the new manager. He was very friendly and courteous. He was extremely knowledgeable about all of the mattresses and successfully matched our needs to picking the perfect mattress. I am happy to report that we love our new mattress! Jim was fantastic because he even got us our delivery the very next day! I highly recommend the American Mattress store in Des Plaines and working with Jim because he is not your typical salesman of pushing the most expensive product on you...he really listens to your needs and suggests what he thinks you will like the most. I needed to purchase a mattress and decided to look up this particular store since it was close to my house. There was no denying the excellent rating and reviews so it was a no brainer for me to follow through with purchasing with American Mattress in Des Plaines. We visited the store and placed our order on a Wednesday evening, and had our mattress delivered before the weekend. Once in place, we decided we wanted a larger bed, that the one we ordered was not big enough for us and we were able to work with John, the store manager in upgrading the new size mattress. It will be delivered to us next week. The customer service and ease of working with them gives this a 5 star rating. I will continue to purchase any mattress needs for myself or my family for years to come. read more

Late February 2020 my wife and walk-in the DesPlaines location, George Limberopoulos was the sales manager. We looked at a few styles and she was pleased with the Restonic Brampton(FIRM) So we purchased it. He even threw in a couple pillow and a mattress pad cover. Delivery crew was on time and very polite and respectful. Unfortunately after the the delivery guys left, I noticed that the mattress was damaged and badly repaired. I quickly called the store and explained to George what I noticed. George then schedule for an exchange for the damaged mattress. So when we received the new mattress. The first night the mattress didn't feel the same as the first one delivered. I contacted the store and explained that the mattress didn't feel the same. I was then instructed to check the mattress tag. According to the tag we had the correct mattress. We were then asked to give it a couple weeks, so I agreed to give it chance. So every day for 2 weeks my wife said this mattress is terrible and it feels like the 8 year old mattress we replaced. Now the entire state was dealing with the Covid19 pandemic. We left a message about are dissatisfaction with the mattress and waited for a return call or the store to reopen. Blah blah let me get to the point! 5/21/2020 the store reopened. We spoke to Heather Hinkle and explained are issue, she then contacted the general manager who set up an exchange. The mattress was delivered on 5/25/2020 and we are very pleased to say. 'Buyer Beware - Return/Refund - What do they mean to you?' While my entire purchase/90-day trial experience is not complete, what I have experienced in the realm of 'customer service' so far is not a positive one. Jimmy, the owner of this establishment, has a hard time distinguishing the difference between the words 'Return' and "Exchange'. To him, they mean the same thing; either way you are not getting your money back if you are not satisfied with your purchase. Apparantly, the 90-day guarantee is a 'comfort' guarantee. While shopping for a new mattress I asked Jimmy 3 separate times if I was not satisfied with the purchase of my Tempurpedic mattress, can I return it, he said 'Yes!'. But when I went in yesterday he said yes, you can 'return' it for another mattress - he would gladly exchange it, but would not refund my money if I wanted a cheaper mattress. I called Tempurpedic. Unfortunately, while this retailer sells their product, they can not control the retailers return policy. However; they did state that in most cases they would accept mattresses back from the retailer - so if you find your self in the same place I am, you may have a chance with trying to work it out with the owner/manager at the store. I had no such luck... Jimmy did apologize for the 'mis-communication' and is doing what he can to 'make me happy'. Essentially, he knows there is nothing I can do, but he's trying to make the most out of the fact that I can't get a REFUND on my RETURN - due to his policy. Word to the wise, if you are looking for a Tempurpedic and want to make sure you get an actual 90-day trial - purchase direct from the Tempurpedic website; they will let you RETURN for a REFUND. Otherwise, you may be stuck with spending over $2,000 for a mattress which causes you more pain than your 20 yr old spring mattress and having to find another mattress. Currently, I am waiting on my new mattress to arrive for another in-home 'COMFORT' trial - hopefully this one works out! While, I'm not happy with how things turned out...I've dealt with worse customer service experiences and in the end - hopefully, no offense, I won't have to darken the doorway of American Mattress - Des Plaines again. read more

John isn't your typical sales rep. He is very knowledgeable and wants what's best for the consumer. I never felt pressured to buy a mattress. We did buy a softer then normal mattress for what we like and ended up not liking it. He was more then receptive to exchange it, not a problem. John goes highly recommended. read more

My mother and I recently stopped in over memorial day weekend and were greeted by Andrew. He was very informative and patient with us and you could tell he wasn't just there to sell and make the sale, he truly cared about his customers and really has a passion for his job. After some time of trying to decide which mattress we wanted to go with, and Andrew being great help with answering any questions we had and really going into details about each mattress we laid on, we made our purchase. He really worked with us to get us the best price that we were willing to pay since we were buying mattress's for the whole family and that was just really nice to know this company really is about their customers and making them happy in any way they can. We really made a great decision to choose American mattress and we left the store very happy customers. After receiving our mattress's and trying them out for the 30 day period, everyone but me liked them. Mine was a little more firm than what I expected, but no problem- two weeks after trying it out I went back in and Andrew met with me again to find another mattress that suited my needs and was again very helpful and really worked with me to make sure I was happy with my purchase. My overall experience met all expectations I had and more. My family recently returned from a trip to Houston TX where we stayed and slept on the most comfortable bed. Needless to say when I returned home from vacation I wasn't pleased with our current bed. We've had the bed for over a decade and felt it. There was an ad for Memorial Day at American Mattress and the store is right by our house so we went in on the holiday to browse their selection. We were quickly greeted by John the sales associate who asked us very specific questions to understand our bed needs. John was very patient with us and not pushy or demanding like some salesmen can be during a big sale event. We felt that John really cared about finding the right bed for our comfort level and did not just focus on the price. It's a large purchase and something we will use everyday for the next decade or so. We felt completely at ease and satisfied with our experience and purchase. I give this establishment a 2 star, since Jimmy (owner) was very informative about his product and was able to give me full attention since I was the only customer there... ok so this is what happened... I walked in and quickly noticed I was the only customer there and Jimmy was the only associate, he came up to me and introduced myself... i told him it was my first time in mattress store and i was only looking, he asked what kind of bed was i looking for, i replied, queen and firm please, he showed me two different kinds. I felt like was in heaven and felt like I was in one of them commercials testing the beds out... hee hee hee... then he started to tell me about the Columbus day sale that had been extended to this weekend... and bout their delivery schedules and so on and about the warranty policy... again I told him I was only looking... very friendly but very persistent. I asked about the financing and he explained, then I asked about the twin size beds... he answered... lol. So then I simply said, thanks for your help, you were very informative and thanks for the full attention & now I know what I'm up against... thanks you have a good day, good bye... and for some reason I was waiting for a response with a good bye, but no, instead I got the silent treatment... from the owner.... and again... I was the only customer in there with just Jimmy being the only associate, so yes it was very obvious he was not happy... instead of walking out silently I did look at Jimmy and asked, " Now I'm getting the silent treatment since I didn't buy anything?", he just said "you know..." I'm like "I don't know... that's poor customer service, you better believe I'm talking to your superior", I tell you for a second there I felt be-little, but I feel like I turned it around.... I went in this place in hopes of looking for a new mattress and I wasn't even in there for 1 minute when the owner asked if he could help me and I told him I was just looking for the moment, his response was "yeah well you can look outside" Having not said or done anything to get this reaction I can only assume that it has to do with the fact that I am and my friend were young and Hispanic. When I walked out exasperated from his request to leave his store the owner followed me outside and screamed "if I had something I wanted to say to him" I just could not believe this response.
