I'm not going to be a returning customer. But this salon is REALLY friendly. You must make an appointment first, they keep their doors locked. So no walk-in appointments are welcomed. They are a super friendly couple who own this shop and they are a pleasure to talk with while having your nails done. Plenty of parking out front. A nice find. City Nails is a small salon, owned by a husband and wife. They are the only ones working most of the time so it's best to call ahead and make sure they are available. I walked in and they were minutes away from two appointment pedicures, but asked what I was coming in for. I told them I just needed a basic manicure and I was hoping for a nice deluxe pedi. She squeezed in a no frills 15 minute manicure just before the other two came in. I was actually impressed because she was very thorough with cleaning up my cuticles but did it fast without tearing up my fingers! Only wished I could've gotten an actual massage on my arms (she just rubbed in lotion super fast), but I understand she was working with time. They said if I could just walk around the area for 35 minutes, they could do a pedicure after so I went to The Hop and enjoyed some ice cream before coming back. Yum! I had originally wanted a nice pedicure with paraffin wax, but the guy asked if I had wanted to try their herbal spa pedicure instead. It cost the same, but you choose a scent (there's like 20!) and they make a soak, mask, scrub, and massage oil from the essential oil and pieces of it (example- rose oil and crushed rose petals). It also has hot towels and a hot stone massage. He told me no one in Asheville offers this treatment, and I was feeling adventurous so I decided to go for it! Oh my goodness, the Rose was such a beautiful treatment! David was so friendly but still let me relax and like his wife, was very thorough. The massage was excellent on my tired calves and my skin was smooth and smelled so lovely afterwards! Definitely glad I tried it! He also gave me extra lotion for my hands and told me next time I could even mix two scents together if I wanted to create a custom soak! Fabulous service, fabulous treatment. Color, shape and everything was great- that being said though, it cost me $80 (including tip) for a SNS manicure. I'm sorry, but that is absolutely absurd! Even with tip, most places I've gone to that do just as good of a job, charge anywhere from $40-$50. Lovely people, nice nail work... found this place on yelp and decided to pop in. I had my 2 girls with me, 5&7, who wanted their toes done. They had a foot sock scrub, scrub, and paint. Took them BOTH about 12 mins. While I was fully expecting 50.00 for my nail dip, I was charged 40.00 EACH for my children. I was absolutely shocked. Usually (and this is my fault for assuming...) BUT usually my girls have never been over 15.00 when I get mine done. I makes me angry that I paid it instead of telling them how wrong that was. And just regular gel paint... nothing fancy. Appalling. I'll never be back, even though they were nice. That's sketchy- and just Incase you are not aware and reading this... 10.00 is MAX a child that takes 6 minutes should be. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but I feel the need to share so no one else has to experience this.... I heard from a friend that this nail place was good and she always had super cute nails so I went to try it out. The people were very welcoming but the girl that did my nails cut them 2-3 times shorter than I asked and there was no shape to the acrylic, it looked like she just threw it on my nail. For reference I went in for a fill and left with what looks like melted squares on my nails. I also noticed that she cut all of my nails to be different lengths, from a few feet away you can't tell but I noticed right after I paid. The salon looks very fun and organized but when I sat down I noticed that she did not put a towel down before she cut my nails or used the drill/file. She also did not once completely wipe down the workspace and just wiped the nail clippings/filling dust to the side. The nail techs acrylic powder and activator were in small containers connected to a small hand held stand together but there was discoloration on the activator container and the liquid itself did not look sanitary. The container that was filled with acrylic powder was even worse, you could see dried acrylic beads on the side of container stuck and she had to pull some dried acrylic from the bottom of the container before she started. After my nails were dried she put an excessive amount of oil on my cuticles and never allowed me to wash my hands, it was almost as if she didn't have time to do my nails correctly because she was rushing the entire time. I was in and out of the nail salon in about 25 minutes. After I left the salon I started to notice that she had gotten acrylic on my skins and my cuticles and it started to peel up and become uncomfortable. The only thing I learned from my experience at this nail salon is that I could have done much better acrylics than the nail tech. read more

Young woman who did nails wore a white work jacket that was dirty. Hard to trust the sanitary conditions of salon cause i kept wondering what odd dried substances were on the coat. Cost was fine; I did leave a tip, but not the suggested $10 recommended amount. Perhaps if they attempted interest or minimal conversation, I would have felt better about experience. My grandma and I went here on Friday as a surprise to me as I was visiting from Colorado. I really appreciate that they were able to accommodate us last minute for a mani/pedi combo for both of us. The owners were great, they're very sweet people. I opted for one of the pedicure upgrades that was $35 I believe. There was no one there when we arrived, but two people showed up as we were getting our pedicures done. One was an appointment, the other was a walk-in. The first half of my pedicure was great other than the water being kinda cold. That however was my fault, I could've told him to put more warm water in so I'm not upset about that. However, the rest of the service was extremely rushed to get to the other customers waiting. I usually get a full set, but I don't like getting those if I don't know the place and the quality of their work so I opted for a regular manicure. My manicure is awful unfortunately. My dad and I were driving on Saturday and he told me he couldn't stop staring at my nails because they were so bad I don't paint my own nails because it usually turns out bad, and this manicure is on par with my own work. There are bumps all over the polish and they started chipping the next day. I took photos of them today, Tuesday, so only 4 days later to show the terrible quality. I'm not sure if I'm spoiled in Colorado, but I usually only pay $10 more for a full set and deluxe pedicure here and my nails turn out much better. I hate to give them a bad review as I previously stated that the owners are incredibly sweet. But if I pay for a service, I have certain expectations and this definitely fell short of them. read more

I hate making complaints but I feel compelled to warn. I have gone here a couple times mostly because it is right down the street from me. I've never had any outstanding issues but last week I called for a 5:30 (they close at 7) mani/pedi/eyebrow wax. I was the only one there so someone worked on my toes while someone else worked on my hands which is fine because I get antsy quickly. The person doing my toes cutout a huge piece of skin from the side of both my big toenails which hurt like hell but I didn't say anything because I figured it was necessary after not having had a pedi in so long. Both of my toes hurt for the next couple days and the one of them became pretty infected. It's almost healed now but I still don't think they should have pulled out that much skin. Also my gel manicure only lasted a week until it began peeling off. read more

The first time I went I didn't quite get what I asked for: I wanted a pink & white fill in. He filled in the pink and then painted the white in. He told me the white powder was toxic (?) and he didn't use it. He didn't tell me this until after the pink power had dried and it was too late to go back with the white. I thought he had a new technique. NOPE. My nails still turned out good so I went back when it was time for a fill-in. Bad idea. My nails had bumps in them from the acrylic powder and the base of the nail, where the fill in is, is too thick and bumpy. He asked if I wanted my hangnails cut (in other salons this has always been done as part of the manicure/fill-in. I said yes, of course. Not only did he make 4 of my fingers bleed he CHARGED ME EXTRA! Not going back. Extremely disappointed. read more

I went to this place about a month ago. The pedicure itself was super nice- nails looked great and hot stone was added for free due to the wait! HOWEVER, he over-clipped the dead skin around one of my big toes, and I ended up with an infection. A pussy, swollen, draining, red infection on the side of my right big toe. I've had many pedicures and that NEVER happened. The people that run this place are so nice, but unfortunately I won't be back due to that :( read more

The massage chair was terrific and their leg massage relaxing.I got the medium priced pedicure with hot rock massage and loved it. I also appreciated the easy parking . After my pedicure I could stay parked in their ample lot and stroll to the nearby homemade ice cream store.Life was good. read more
