I have been receiving quarterly services from Am Pest for many years. They were adequate, although increasingly more expensive for filling bait boxes periodically. Recently, I noticed a major rat infestation (in central DC) and called for an emergency appointment to put poison in the fivw new burrows in my garden. The events that happened afterwards persuade me that this company is highly disorganized and in need of systems repair to assist a customer seeking specific help. First: although I asked for poison "dusting," Am Pest sent me a technician who was blissfully unaware of my request and, he told me, not certified to use "dust." He called his manager, who is qualified to do "dusting." But the manager chose not to come because it may rain later today. They did not set up a new appointment, and the report from the technician said that there are no further issues at this residence. I don't blame the technician, who seemed to be new, for all these problems. BUT the major rat infestation in my garden remains untreated! I had also requested extra bait boxes for a neighbor--also an Am Pest client--who shares the major infestation. The technician never received that request, even though the person who made the appointment said she wrote it down and I could accept the boxes for my neighbor. Notably, the technician's manager said that HE lacks authorization to approve extra bait boxes for their client--my neighbor. (The technician actually had extra bait boxes with him. He just never got approval to leave them.) The manager purportedly sent a request to approve the new bait boxes to someone else. We do not have the new bait boxes. Finally, when I went to the company website looking for how to write senior management, I discovered no named organization leaders. they are well organized for sales. Less so for emergency service. That is why I am writing on Yelp. (The relevant dates are July 6 and 7, if anyone from Am Pest actually wants to apologize for this mess of non-communication about why exactly I had called for emergency service in the first place.) They refuse to stop charging my credit card. I called and sent them an email back in March asking that service be cancelled at the end of the current term. Today, 3 months later, they renewed me and charged by credit card. I called to speak to them and they said they had no record of the email or the call and had already performed the service. Then, the agent says they sent reminder emails and text messages, which I never received and for which she could provide no evidence or dates. How silly! Will dispute with my credit card company and provide them the documentation. read more

I have been a client for many years and currently get quarterly general service AND monthly service for spotted lantern fly's and separate service for mosquito spraying of my yard yet when I had an absolute emergency a very large bees nest found in a storage bin resulting in a bee stinging my son in then gave, I was told ' our technicians don't work on the weekends' when I asked for a manager, the very apathetic phone agent stated they would call me on Monday even though the office was still open on Saturday when I called. This is the second time this happened where they are coming for general Service but missed a huge swarm Of bees in my backyard. I realize that the technicians usually come when I am at work and quickly spray without being thorough. I am about done with this company, as I pay way too much money for all these services only to be disregarded during a pest emergency that they missed. read more

Requested service. They work basically 9am-6pm for appointments No weekends. So you have to work around their schedule. To pay them?! 3 hour window, took day off waited 2 hours into window called to see where tech was. Ooops he had flat. Too bad. They didnt call. They offered to let me take another day off, to lose more time and money so I could hire them. WOW what a deal!! Find someone else. Absolutely terrible and incompetent customer service. I paid for mousetrap placement and removal. After having mousetraps placed, I was told to simply call the office to schedule removal. For weeks I've been calling and not one of the phone reps is capable of doing the scheduling. They promise that American Pest will call me back to schedule and complete the service that I have already paid for, but they never do. The techs might be good at their pest removal job, but the "front of house" is a mess. Bad system, unreliable, and poor scheduling. read more

So last November I had termites, so I called this service that I found on Facebook in a Horror Fan group. (It made sense because of bug movies) Whoever was on phone was nice, and I requested an estimate, which wasn't too bad priced but the man who came to visit, Dave, kept glancing at some of the toys in my daughters room. I asked if there was something important there and he mentioned that bugs can be attracted to wood building sets and warm electronic toys. We made simple conversation, and I left him to it. A few minutes later I'm walking by and see him holding her teddy bear up to his face! Then I see on the website that he is "involved" in childrens sports!!! I have not enjoyed my experience with this company this far and am wondering why it is so difficult to find quality pest control in the area. I've found there aren't enough technicians or availability to get appointments quickly (same week) if you need one. The pest control went better than rodent control and has been an ongoing issue with them telling me there's no activity (even when the monitors have said there was). One tech had an attitude that I had to ask him if he could put on shoe covers when he came in from the rain. Although I'm not sure why I had to ask as I thought it was a courtesy policy and it had been raining for the last 7 days and I have white carpets on the stairs. The first time I suspected rodent activity they told me confidently there was none and a day later a mouse got caught on one of the sticky bug traps and was dead in the hallway. I had to handle disposal myself (I was told with the package I had they take care of removal - but of course no one had availability for the week so unless I wanted a dead mouse in my hallway I still needed to handle it.) The second experience the activity monitors told them there was activity but the tech said it wasn't activity but the placement of the monitors. They moved the monitors and did nothing else. Another activity notification later, increasing droppings, and a hole chewed through paper and scraps everywhere I'm left still trying to get an appointment for service. I've not gotten a clear answer on what they can even do for remediation aside from move the monitors around and keep telling me there's activity. These guys are legit clowns. You would think they were taking a cut from the mice themselves. In the year 2021 around May, we noticed a nice problem. After weeks or months of trying to take on this problem ourselves it became clear we needed help. We called American pest and they checked out our place. We told him due to young children and dog. We needed our pest solution to not include any toxic poisons. They agreed. They came for 6 months. They installed dollar store snap traps around the house with peanut butter. I asked myself, "I hope we're paying for the knowledge because I can do this at Home Depot." Their service tech people that came out who would ask ME," where do you want me to install these?" This clearly demonstrated no knowledge of our house, or the problem. He had no idea where the previous traps were installed, nor where to put them. He made no mention of where the source of the mice were coming other than vague, they usually come through X places. Maybe they're coming in through there. The mice problems ebbed and flowed. The traps were working as they did catch some mice but the problem wasn't going away. Flags forward to a fateful morning in October when at 7:00am we heard squeaking in our couch. Imagine our shock and chagrin when we discovered that the mice had been nesting inside our couch, our brand new couch of 3 months...in the family room...where we sit...all the time...right below the cushion. And it had 6 to 8 babies that were moving... (we are currently paying for a very nice couch we had to throw out) we immediately called American pest. The following conversation ensured. Me: good morning we have been paying for your service for about 4 to 6 months. There are mice in our couch nesting. I see eight babies. Can you please send someone out right away to help? Service person on the phone: I'm sorry sir, over texts are busy scheduled for today. The soonest we can get to you is tomorrow at 2pm. Me: maybe you didn't hear me, there are fucking mice in our fucking couch. We have been paying you for four months to prevent this catastrophe. Service person on the phone: I'm sorry sir there's just no unavailable. I completely understand why you're upset. Me: well, I guess I'm gonna have to schedule for tomorrow at 2pm. You have my address.. I hang up. My wife called destroy pest, who came over immediately, and could not believe what he saw. He said one the guys that tried to treat this problem did it all wrong (DUH), fully diagnose, the problem and fully treated the problem. I am pleased to say that it's been three months and we have been mouse free. I would highly recommend destroy pest, not this joke of a company. My immediate problem is that I can't get at one wall of my house to find out if mice have access to get into my house from any holes in the mortar between the bricks. Other than that wall American Pest, especially two employees have sealed other walls and understand that mice have established themselves throughout my old heating system registers and are difficult to flush out. I have to do my part by not having anything available for them to eat. American Pest has been successful in sleuthing out places to put sticky mats and other traps in several locations around my house. When I call they come and listen to my description of location of feces. This is a tough job for them but they are as persistent as I in coming out and replenishing traps, mats and other means of eliminating mice. read more

We've had some great service from APC, initially, but in the past year, we only get notified of the quarterly service the day before. The past few times they've come way before the projected time and this last time they came and didn't knock on the door, but I watched the individual from our camera sitting in the van and just place the "we missed you" door hanger on our front door. First of all, I've encountered American Pest reps at least 4 times in my condo community, though only twice for direct entry into my home. 2 of those times (one inside my home and one out), they were condescending. Of recent note, as their 'follow up' visit after they laid down some traps a few weeks ago. I told them I also laid down traps I got from home depot (Tomcat sticky traps) and said that their sticky traps don't work since this season we already caught 2 mice on our traps already, one being as recent as yesterday. The guy had this attitude of 'It's my first time entering your home and I'm the expert'. Ok great- You don't want an overview of past findings. I'll let you do your job. He had a handheld air pump thing and pumps it into the side of the dishwasher and the back of the fridge. I ask if that's poisonous to humans, and his response is 'if I pump it at you it is poisonous'. Okay, that's worrisome...so I comment that I have a dog. And he goes "does your dog go to the back of the fridge? No? Then it's fine" During this entire time, he looks dissatisfied by the disarray of our home and claims that mice are just hiding everywhere inside our home in the clutter we have. And I'm telling him that we have heard mice in the walls, and he doesn't believe me. I'm sorry I don't live in a spotless brand new home that is move out ready- but essentially that's the job you have to normally work with. After throwing pellets around under our kitchen sink and putting in some 'special bait box that can only be opened by his key' - he once again comments on tidying up. Yes, I understand we have dog toys spewed onto the floor like we have a child and we have lived in our home during the stay at home governors orders. He leaves, and as I shamefully start 'tidying' up my home and inspecting the places the guy threw things around, I come to find he completely missed the fact that we had a dead mouse that was caught in our sticky trap. It was right under our dishwasher, where he spent the most time spritzing things and putting traps around. I note dead mouse because it must have HAD to have been there during his entire visit, and he didn't even SEE it. Ironically, it was stuck again on our personally purchased sticky trap, next to the American Pest defunct one provided. a few weeks ago. In July, I was initially excited to have this company come with their Anticimex smart system to help identify how, where and when the mice were coming into our house. After talking with the rep Haley, this sounded like the perfect solution. Fast forward to Sept and I have yet to get any information other than two mice were found in the older style mouse traps in the attic. When I asked the tech about what he found from the smart system on his two-week return, he said he didn't have something working right. After 495 deposit and 95 dollars a month I have no more answers than I did before using this fancy system. When I go to login and set up my account the link does not work. I then decide to cancel as it's not worth the money. I called to cancel this past Friday, and was told I have to talk to the retention department and no one is available. I call back 3 more times and finally on Tuesday I get to talk to someone. He asked why I want to cancel. He then tells me that this system is not meant to find out where the mice are coming in and that should have been done during the initial walk through inspection. This is not what is advertised on their website (see pic included), and this is not what the sales rep on the phone stated. After approx $800 I know that two mice were killed in my attic. You tell me if you think it's worth it. I also had to call back more than once to set up a time for the tech to come and remove the devices. Also, when I asked to go to the basic package I was quoted 89 dollars which isn't much less than I am paying now. Do your homework and search around. Found a company that I can get basic service and mosquito treatment for about the same price. read more

We signed up for the SMART service to deal with mice in the house but the "SMART" technology did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for us except to charge an extra $10/month. Additionally, when we found mice in snap traps we would call for removal and trap replacement and had to wait 1-3 weeks! Meanwhile, we ended up dealing with the carcasses ourselves as they started to stink up the house. The service says just call and we'll come out ASAP but, not so. We used this service for 4 months and still have rats outside and mice inside. The technicians are very professional and courteous but management needs to read all reviews and make some major changes in thinking. They need to sit in the call center and see how things are run and also go out on home visits instead of sitting in their ivory tower. We canceled our service and got the run-around for 11 days when we asked to speak to someone in management about our experience. Set your own snap traps and save yourself some money and aggravation. read more

I had been using Capitol Pest for years when they were bought out by American Pest. Since taking over my account, American Pest has charged me hundreds of dollars but I noticed a significant uptick in rodent and spider activity on my property. After their last service call, I noticed our rodent bait were submerged in pine needles, and didn't look they had been touched - so I asked the tech and he promised me he had filled them. I didn't believe him and had American Pest send a different tech -- who confirmed that both bait boxes were not only completely empty, but filled to the brim with pine needles, too. Apparently American Pest hadn't bothered to fill them since last October (six months ago) when they took over the account. They've charged me over $400 in the interim. Apparently American Pest has bought a lot of companies and due to the expansion, it looks to me like they are having serious problems with quality control. Their techs spend less than 5 minutes on my property every three months - and when I've asked them to look at a specific pest problem, they've actually told me that I need to figure out what the pest is, take a picture, and call the office to confirm that it's covered before they'll even look at the problem. Why pay $800 a year for that? If this is your pest company, I'd really recommend that you double check they are getting the job done! Scheduled an initial visit and visible holes inside were filled, but no exterior exclusion work done. Bait stations were placed around the house inside and out but caught nothing. I caught 2 tiny mice on glue traps on my own then used baking soda and cornmeal to prevent them from coming back (again on my own). I have smart sensors installed in the area where mice are seen but they have picked up no activity. Seems gimmicky. Appointment time windows are way too wide (arrive between 7a-6p) with no heads up notice before arriving. Previous tech lied and said a rat bait I was using had no poison but it definitely did. They get your credit card info upon first speaking and say you won't be charged then when you tell them you aren't interested they sneakily charge you anyway $50/mo without even visiting your home. If you call you are on hold then switched to different people and promises to be sent to the dept to undo charges and then they just hang up. I may have to cancel my credit card because of this fraudulent company charges. I've called multiple times. read more

They are very polite but not catching anything, they have come back now 3 to 4 times to reset their smart trap which keeps going offline, only to find out it is faulty, they did not even have another one in their procession to replace it which was very annoying. If you have an option, do not use this company. They used to be a locally owed company and had great customer service. I have had a termite contract with them for over 10 years. The last two years, I paid my agreement and they just take my money and sit on it. They do not contact me to schedule the annual inspection but rather avoid performing the work at all costs. I finally scheduled someone to come out last year and walked the perimeter of my house and told my wife that she saw no activity and that coming in a checking the crawl space wasn't necessary. If you know termites, that is exactly where you need to check. I am now in the process of chasing them down for the second year in a row. They have had my money since June and still have made no contact to schedule the inspection. They are very good at taking your money but lack in the execution of performing their end of the contract. read more

American Pest responded quickly to an infestation issue we discovered. If you have never a pest infestation, it is pretty upsetting to realize you have one. Rassaun and Jeff came over and reassured us it could be fixed and let us know everything they were going to do. Inspected the home inside and out and started plugging gaps and showing us where the issues are. We are well on the way to fixing the problem. They return to check the progress of traps each week or so at no additional charge as part of my contract. Don't be surprised if you get some "homework" as well. They showed us some adjustments we needed to make and clutter to remove in order to deny the little critters appealing places to nest or hide or generally make merry as mice do. Lesson learned: You see one single mouse in the house, call them right away... there are a lot more you don't see. read more

Read Better Business Bureau reviews as soon as possible. We are not even using this company and someone accidentally showed up at our home at 630am. He didn't even knock to tell us why he was on our property. We neighbor with a cattle farm so any kind of chemicals has to be approved and notified by both families. He sprayed outside without our permission and once we were finally able to scream loud enough at him he stopped. He barely glanced at his phone and said he had the wrong address and walked away. He also said we needed to avoid the chemicals by not going outside for at least 1 hour. Well too late damage done. Now we have to alert the EPA and have the contaminants removed from our playground area. The smell is horrible. Called the company and much like others have reported they hung up on me. read more
